Embassy Suites by Hilton Newark Wilmington South

Spent two nights here (Wed & Thurs) last week for business. Arrived 6p after long drive in torrential rainy conditions and was welcoming surprise to see such a nice hotel. Foyer was spacious and opened up into center atrium that vaulted upwards. This hotel is directly across street from Univ. of Delaware. This Embassy Suites also has banquet rooms for special events.
Front desk staff was professional and checked me in promptly. Straightforward process so little conversation was exchanged. I was relieved to find out that my room was on second floor. Upon walking to my room, the set-​up drew memories of motel room arrangements where you enter from the ‘outside’ but the ‘outside’ was just the large atrium that centered the hotel. Found my suite rather spacious with separate living room and work desk area, small hallway flanked by mini kitchen area and roomy bathroom. Further in was my place of true solitude — the bedroom. I didn’t find it noisy at all as reported by some other reviewers. I slept solidly both nights on plush comfy king bed. Room darkening drapes made the bedroom a welcoming respit at the end of an exhausting day of work.
Bathroom had a missing fixture (presumably to hold the hair dryer) but no big deal as the wallpaper and drywall intact and neat. Clean. Plenty of towels. Strong shower pressure.
Breakfast area was large and offered a bevy of complimentary choices. A chef station was available to make fresh omelettes including heathy egg white versions. No guest was left hungry as hot buffet in addition had French toast, waffles, various breakfast meats, fresh fruit. This was on top of the usual cereal, pastries etc…
A TGIFridays was connected which was convenient for lunch and dinner options.
I used the gym which was sufficient with three treadmills, elliptical, recumbent bike, two adjustable weight benches and full set of weights. Medicine balls avail as well as plenty of mats. The gym definitely needed a thorough cleaning — dust and hair all over, garbage cans were all full, no towels.
Although I didn’t utilize the pool, it was avail. It looked absolutely putrid. That was the only unfortunate aspect of this nice hotel. Was surprised — the aerator was on but water was green and slimy looking! Yuck.
OVERALL: solid clean hotel choice @ great price. Was charged $ 135+$ 10 tax/​day. Will definitely stay here again. Hopeful pool gets cleaned up!

Okay so from the look of the lobby and the fact that they had Friday’s attached I thought it would be better then Homewood since we are Hilton members but I was so wrong!!! the walls were paper thin the staff was no help at all the wifi went in & out the fridge didn’t work the room I had wasn’t the room I paid for witch was two queen beds n a pull out couch but instead I got one queen bed n the pull out smh my son wouldn’t touch the breakfast and really I don’t blame him the waffle I had was so dry I couldn’t even swallow it… if ur a hh member go to Homewood I’ve been there plenty of times and it’s amazingly better then this Hilton horror!

I am a Corporate Traveler, meaning I travel 100% of the time. Never have I seen anything like the pure lack of customer service as I have with this establishment. Upon checking in, I had to stand at the counter while the only front desk employee spoke on the phone… I must have waited 5 minutes before the call ended. After hanging up the phone, she didn’t greet me; instead she just looked up at me. It was the most bazaar and unprofessional «greeting» I have ever seen. The room itself was pretty… HOWEVER, IT BACKED UP TO A MAJOR ROADWAY! All night long all we heard was the sound of cars and voices that came through the paper thin walls. We were in such a hurry to get out of that place the next morning that we forgot to take with us our two custom made pillows. Upon realizing we left the pillows, we called the hotel, but got the runaround from the front desk. I then called Hilton Honors and spoke with a Manager at the Diamond Desk. I explained my situation with her and she put me on hold and called the hotel. She came back on the line and told me how rude a front disk person had been to her when she asked to speak to a Manager on duty. She said she had told them the situation of the pillows and said that she would be transferring me to the hotel. Good grief, to say that the front desk person was rude and had a major attitude would be an understatement! It was clear that person had zero people skills and should never be allowed to interact with the public. She eventually transferred me to a voicemail for the Manager on Duty. To his credit, the Manager on Duty did call me back. He said that he had located my pillows. I asked why didn’t the hotel call me to let me know that housekeeping had located my pillows and he said there were «privacy concerns anytime anything is left in the room. When items are found in the room after checkout, they are stored in a closet». He then asked if he «should use the credit card on file to cover the charges for the cost of mailing the pillows». My thought was how the heck did he maintain the credit card but didn’t call me about my pillows due to «privacy concerns»…I feel my credit card is very private. After talking with the Manager on duty, it became very clear where the nasty attitudes of the front desk came from — it is a result of the Managers as it starts at the top and rolls down hill. I asked several times to speak with the General Manager and was tole «there is no General Manager» at this hotel. I then asked for the Owner’s name and phone number, but was never given that information. If there were anyway to give this hotel a zero rating, I would. This establishment is a joke at best. Do yourself a favor and don’t stay here.

Are the walls made of parchment paper? Maybe. We heard every cough, desk movement, and conversation of the rooms around us. I don’t like that very much. I’d bump it down to 2 but we got a good deal on the price and they got us the specification we desired. But seriously, get some better walls.

Good hotel option in the area based on the important aspects of cleanliness, room size, and comfort; however, the drawback is painfully slow and intermittent wifi. Truly awful. Don’t expect to stay connected or get any work done. The hotel is connected to TGIF which isn’t horrible… this is a compliment given I generally dislike chain restaurants. If wifi worked I’d bump to 3.5 of that was a Unilocal option.

OK. I typically don’t like to give bad reviews, especially to one of my favorite hotel chains. We just didn’t quite get it started right here. Checked in and was given my room key (just one). Went to open the door, didn’t work. Went back down. Now asked for 2 hotel keys in case one didn’t work. Got into the room. Found someone’s suitcase on one bed and laptop case on another. Somewhat freaked me out that they could give me access to someone’s belongings (glad it wasn’t mine) and not really care. Went back down and they apologized saying they had some computer issues which screwed up the bookings. They put me in another room now which the room key actually worked. As a Diamond member, they didn’t show much remorse. In addition, I wasn’t quite treated like a Diamond, but was told I could take my water from the pantry if I liked since they didn’t have it in my room.. When I went over to the attached TGIF, they mentioned they didn’t have a reciprocating agreement with the Embassy anymore because they owed them too much money. Not sure if that’s true, but interesting to discuss. The hotel looks very clean and almost sterile. Most likely won’t stay here again, but may try the other Embassy across town. They do have a nice gym and pool.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights for our daughters swim meet. It was an awful experience! First we requested a room on the 2^nd floor which online there were plenty but the refused to accommodate us and put us on the 4^th floor. No one ever acknowledged us as Hilton Honors members. We also did not get any extra towels we requested. The first night my daughter did not sleep because the walls are so this and she heard everything going on in the room next to us. They did not have breakfast open when they said so she did not eat before her swim meet. The second night the entire hotel was extremely noisy all night, the pool was in no condition to swim in as it was cloudy. Breakfast the next morning was open and was not good, the bowl of rotting bananas ruined our appetite.
The icing on the cake was we asked for late check out and was told «no housekeeping does not want to stay late» and if we were not out by 1pm we would be charged another nights stay!

I stay here when I am in the area for work.
The hotel is always very clean, the rooms provide ample space and a comfortable place to sleep. The open atrium lobby set up is very inviting and the indoor fountain is actually pretty soothing for doing work in the lobby area.
As far as food goes the included breakfast is decent enough and it’s nice to have a TGI Fridays attached for a quick bite or for room service.
My biggest gripe is the water temperature in the shower doesn’t get super super hot, but that’s an extreme preference of mine so it is forgivable. If there were better showers I would probably have gave 5 stars.

Ugh, where do I start.
They charged my card 20.00, then 30.00, and another 1.00 randomly without any notice in anticipation for gift shop expenses and room service expenses which really pissed me off since I would never use any of those services.
The television in my room hardly worked. It would cut out and distort every few seconds. It was so frustrating that I couldn’t stand to watch anything for more than a few minutes without turning the television off.
The wifi. Omg. Absolutely horrible setup. It was slow, the code they gave me worked on and off and had to be put on everytime my laptop was opened and my phone was unlocked, it dropped randomly while using it. As someone traveling for business I was so frustrated because I was unable to get work done after visiting my client for the day.
Also, the room felt overused and old, the water pressure sucked and the bedding smelled funky as hell.
Overall I am dissatisfied and I would not recommend staying here

Some good points, some not so good points about this hotel…
Good points… The evening reception was one of the better ones that I have had at Embassy Suites. As a Diamond member, I stay at Hilton properties a lot and this was a nice spread… cheese and crackers, fresh fruit, warm focaccia bread, potato chips, tortilla chips. Nice selection of beer, wine and cocktails.
Not so good points… I was never welcomed as a Diamond Member, which is a question that I always get asked on the survey. The breakfast was a mess… so many people in line for the food. The cook was hurried and all the items he cooked were overly greasy. Other Embassy suites have a section/​island for self serve and a line for Cook to Order… that would alleviate the long lines.
Staff as a general rule had long faces and unhappy demeanor… hope better training and morale boosters help this location.

Great value, clean hotel, friendly staff, and located close to downtown.

As far as hotels go its pretty much like all of the other ones I have frequented in the past two years for work. The staff is actually really nice so I think that is what made me review this one. All of the people I had to deal with were a step above most. They were friendly and definitely accommodating. I would recommend this to everyone and the next time I am in Newark i will be staying here.

Stayed at the Embassy Suites for six nights this month and will definitely be using them as my home away from home whenever I’m in Delaware. The staff was extremely accommodating, the breakfast downstairs every morning was a huge plus, the pool provided great entertainment and the rooms are a great size. Free Wi-​fi and an excellent location (5 minutes off the I-​95 exit). There are kitchens with a microwave, sink, and refrigerator in every room plus a bedroom and sitting room with a door between the two in every suite. To top it off, our two bedroom suite with 2 queens, a pull out, and crib was priced the same as the average hotel in the area.
I stayed with my husband and our three children (including a 13 month old). We had plenty of room for all of us and were able to use the sitting room as a private room for the baby. We shut the door between the two rooms and he slept great while the rest of us could watch tv and spend time with each other in the other room without having to worry about waking him up.
The only reason that I am not giving the hotel 5 stars is lack of room service. They are attached to a TGI Fridays who provides a room service option of their menu and will deliver it to the room but, if you’re not a fan of restaurant, you’re out of luck. It would be nice to have a healthier option through Embassy Suites.

Great facility with the perfect location if you are visiting for anything involving the University of Delaware. They’re connected to TGI Friday’s and have room service off their menu.
And as always — made to order omelets and a free happy hour certainly make this place easy to love!
