I came to D&h restaurant on my lunch break because I love Jamaican food and I eat there quite often. It’s been a while so I decided to have lunch on January 52016. I thought it was quite odd that they were getting inspected while I was trying to order my lunch but didn’t pay it any mind. I ordered my food at the counter because the service is always a little slow, and they are always short for employees between answering the phones and taking orders. I ordered jerk chicken with cabbage, rice and plantains. The meal was good as always but I said something to the waiter about the plantains being hard and dry. I asked the waiter if I can get a fresh batch and he told me they had a bad batch. I asked if I can get something else and he explained all of the plantains came out like that. I asked can I get something else to replace the plantains since they were hard and dry. The waiter went back to the owner and then came back to tell me there is nothing he can do accept apologize. I was upset because if D&h knows they have a bad batch of something especially food, why would you be selling it to your customers. What should of happen is they should of just said they are all out of plantains until they got a non defective batch. Before leaving the restaurant I explained to the waiter that I was dissatisfied and disappointed the way my situation was handled. I gave a suggestion that if a situation came up like this again how to handle it more appropriately instead of telling the customer there is nothing he can do to and the waiter wanted to argue with me and give me irrelevant analogies about the plantains came with the meal so if I am dissatisfied, he doesn’t have to compensate me with anything, so before things got out of hand and it wasn’t professional for either one of us to argue in front of customers. I decided to take this as a lost. I left upset and in a bad mood. I would of been ok if I was a least asked if there is something else I can get for you. So I am going out of my way and taking time from by busy schedule to write this review. I work for a financial institution where things can be stressful and critical so I do not need things like this that’s not complicated to resolve to ruin my day. I hope this review is helpful to other customers and I hope this is a lesson to D&h restaurant. I still even left a tip because it was the right thing to do, even after my not so pleasant experience.

I have been to D& H twice, hoping the first time was just a bad night for the kitchen. The food was the worst Jamaican food I have had; both times. I doubt if the cook can find Jamaica on a map. The jerk chicken breast was too dry to eat and did not have a good jerk taste. I know that breast is is more challenging; but don’t put it on the menu if you can not cook it! The cabbage was under cooked and the carrots were still crispy. None of the rich buttery taste you expect. The rice and peas was old and dry and tasteless. I really like Jamaican food and D&H is so close to home; but the food is just bad! Also, I went to the bar to get a beer and the bartenders were too busy playing games on their tablets to serve customers. After I finally got ones attention; she takes the beer out of the cooler and stops to talk to a customer for four minutes while it warmed in her hand.

There is a D&H4 Jamaican restaurant in downtown Wilmington too. I think they are unrelated. It’s awesome.

Hmm. So let me start by saying I have been going here for some time now. The food is decent… particularly because you don’t have many choices for Caribbean food in this area. If you have a craving… its probably one of two choices in the area. so I will go to fill a craving… otherwise. The service is CRAP! The female servers all seem to be B*#&$*sss(&!!! Except for the tall white lady… and I’m a Black woman, so I’m not discriminating. just pointing out the obvious) but it seems as if all the servers/bartenders of color have attitudes. Particularly if you are woman… you will get served with straight attitude. But I have watched them serve the men with smiles, giving away free food and drinks and everything. Seems as if, if you’re a man, you’ll get excellent service(and probably something more after the place closes if you know what I mean) but if you’re a woman you are served with attitude and the stank face. I’m pretty sure they won’t do anything about the service because this is pretty much a whole in the wall. This is simply just to warn you all… decent food. horrible service.

I have eaten at this establishment for since they first opened, and unfortunately the quality of their food has consistently diminished. The Maryland and DC Jamaican eateries serve much better cuisine, probably due to all the competition in the area. D&H literally has no other Jamaican restaurant to competing with them.

The initial time I frequented this place was initially better than my second time. This prompted me to write a review after I had seen several other views. The first time I went I had the same exact thing I ordered the second time. There was a DJ and I went around a happy hour time. The food was really good so Maybe I went on a bad night the second time. Upon arrival the cashier gave us the menus to order take out. I order 2 platters. Curry chicken with rice & beans and cabbage on the side and also the jerk wings, cabbage and rice & beans. The second order was made with out plantains. A side of chicken patty abd chicken egg rolls. Cashier recommended he put the plantains on the first order. $ 26 While waiting we had a beer(shocktop was on tap #ohyeah!) and a sex on the beach drink. $ 10 Needless to say the sex on the beach was not tasty. We drank a few sips and by then the food was ready. When we got home the food was not the way I had tasted previously. The cabbage was not cooked to the true Caribbean way. The jerk was over whelming for a person who loves spicy food! The chicken patty was drink and unrecognizable. The curry was bland. Needless to say I wasted money that night because we had to discard our meal and go to bed hungry. I gave 2 stars for my previous experience and the beer.

Let me start off with saying this place was a big waste of time and money. How can you go wrong with jerked chicken wings, well this place did. The food didnt taste fresh and the seasoning didnt seem authentic. Everything I ordered was nasty and I’ve been to several jamacian spots. I ordered a tequila sunrise while I waited for my food which by the way was horrible. Not even sure if they are real jamacian’s running the place. I like the whole concept of a bar/jamacian restaurant that’s the only reason I’m rating it a 2 but thus place is in my N. A(never again) list.

Let me start of by informing those of you who want a more realistic food experience to visit Spice & Nice 2 off route 40… Google it. Now as a Jamaican there is a certain taste that has to associated with our food and naturally I expect when going to a JA spot. Sadly the only aspect to Jamaican about this place are the correct names to some of dishes, the owners are J’cans and that they play Reggae at nights. With regards to the actual flavor DH is on the very bottom of the scale and the food is subpar. All they have going here is that they have a good location, so needless to say all the non-Jamaicans go there thinking they are having a real experience because they play Reggae music and they can tell their friends they had some Jamaican named meal… /facepalm. So what made me write this /visit this place? Well I recently I started working close by, so I was no longer close to my usual real deal spot(Spice n Nice). So I decided against my better judgement to stop in for Patties. I figured after avoiding this place for about 2 ½ yrs they probably got it together. After walking in I made a last minute decision to take a baby step approach due to me remembering my last experience which literally left a bad taste in my mouth. Anyway I decided get some Patties(3 Chicken and 2 Beef) as I figured they can’t f that up. Wrong! The patties were cold, clearly stale and fell apart when I bit into it. Even more embarrassing was my co-worker who I bought some for started telling me how horrible it was and how Jamaican food is bad. Yeah… I posted picture of the Patty so you can see I’m not making this up. I will once again put this place on my $hit list for another 2 ½yrs after that experience. My suggestion to the 2 owners is that you stay out the kitchen and hire a better Cook. Whoever you hire Patties from cancel your future orders and source another and ensure you cycle in fresh patties.

I’ve experienced good and terrible at D&H. I have a coworker that loves the curry goat and I’ve have tried several of there dishes. Some have been good and I really enjoy the cabbage, It’s sweet and cooked well and I also like the beef patties. Last time I ordered the curry chicken and it was terrible. It did not taste good and the whole dish was full of fat, large cut up bones along with bone shards throughout the dish. needless to say I did not finish it. I would probably eat here again if I was peer pressured by my coworker but most likely will not make the trip back on my own decision. I would like to point out that there staff was always pleasent and prompt when I would go in to pick up my food.

First of all, if you’re looking for a casual sit-down restaurant, this is NOT what you’re looking for. D&H is mostly a bar with some tables on the side for restaurant service. With that being said, let’s get to the food: IT’S REALLYGOOD! GETTHEOXTAILS! I had oxtails and double sides of cabbage. The oxtails are stewed in a super rich, almost black brown-sauce, that is absolutely lick-off-your-fingers good. The oxtails themselves are super tender and practically fall of the bones. Cabbage was good too, nothing really notable, but made for an excellent vehicle to suck up the rest of the brown sauce. I was there on a Friday night and it definitely had a very loud, party atmosphere. We were leaving just in time for things to start getting rowdy. If good food is what you’re looking for, then D&H is a culinary vacation to the Caribbean, especially since Jamaican food isn’t always easy to find… just don’t expect to be able to hear the people sitting at the table with you.

Yummy yummy yummy. The jerk vegetable roti and the curry veggie platter were both relish. We had a very friendly server named Jackie who told us all about D&H and about Newark, DE in general.

What are you even DOING?! Stop it and come get some of this Jamaican goodness! Get the 2 meats entrée with curry goat and jerk pork(comes with cabbage, rice & beans)! The pork has a spicy kick and the goat is tender, but goat meat always has bones, so watch out! I tried the oxtail and pepper steak, also solid choices. The BBQ jerk wings are really tasty and perfectly fried. Really reasonable happy hour specials. Beef patties look and taste like they’re from the super market freezer, still tasty, but almost certainly not homemade. Dudes: the men’s room urinals were full of mothballs, has anyone seen that before?

I went there for lunch with my daughter. She ordered the Oxtail and I had the brown chicken stew. The chicken was fall off the bone tender with just the right amount of spice. The Oxtail had great flavor but was not as tender as her previous visits. We both went with the red beans and rice along with the cabbage for sides. Both were very good. An excellent lunch. To top it all off I left my phone on the table when I left and they called my favorites to let me know that they had it! I will be returning to D&H with the rest of family for more of the fantastic fare.

I was craving for some jamaican food and found this restaurant on Unilocal so my husband and I drove to this place. This place is next to a Mr. Tire and is in a small shopping center. It turns into a night club at night and I guess we came when it was switching from a restaurant to a night club. It was a little weird but after our initial WTF moment, we sat down at a table and was helped. We ordered a feast! I had a two item plate with goat curry and ox tail. My husband had the three item plate with the curry chicken, ox tail, and jerk shrimp with vegetables. We also ordered the spicy beef patty, and pork ribs. EVERYTHING was DELICIOUSBUT the jerk shrimp. A tip our waitress shared with us was to dip our beef patty into the ox tail sauce, OMG best idea ever! We’ve been trying to plan a trip back to this place since we left and that was over a month ago. But we feel silly if we drove two hours just to eat and then come back but it’s crossed our mind plenty of times.

After reading the reviews on Unilocal,I convinced my buddy to try some Jamaican food while we were traveling to the area on business. I love going to these dives or non descript places for food. D&H definitely fits the bill. Upon entrance, we know we are in a no thrills bar. The music wasn’t too loud, well it was only around 6pm. I had to try the Curried Goat. It was as good as advertised and recommended by other Unilocalers. The meats just melts off the bones and the curry sauce was plentiful and compliments the rice just right. I had to keep drinking my beer because it was so «hot». The jerk chicken was spicey, but a littel too wet and too small for my taste. Got an order of fried plantian, it was a little disappointing because it was okay, but not as good as other Unilocalers have suggested. Would have bought the Red Stipes if I haven’t already picked up a 6 pack of Black n Tan next door. Will definitely come back if I am ever in the area again.
