California Skin Care & Day Spa

I have been coming to the spa for over 4 years now, and the estheticians here are all like family to me, everyone is so helpful and so sweet. I have suffered with Acne on my face since I was in high school, and I’m still trying to manage my Adult Acne and get tip top clear. Elena has done work on my face for years, and she can make such a difference in one acne facial session. Elena has hands sent by God, she was born to solve people’s skin issues, and make a difference for her clients. The reason why she is so Good at her trade is because she isn’t just another person to throw product on your face and clean it, she really knows that in order to fix the skin, you have to really get to the root of the problem and clean deeper.
I call her my Doctor for my skin, acne, and self esteem. At one point my skin was so messed up. Clogged pores, inflamed and congested skin, infected pores, where dirt and bacteria were screaming to come out! I didn’t even want to go out of the house without any makeup on… When you are in Elena’s hands she will assess your face very carefully and take her time to examine what is causing breakouts underneath the surface, and uses her product knowledge and skills to make sure she finds solutions that will actually clear up your face. I consider my facials as a luxury to me, and critical for my wellness and happiness, that the costs of the services by Elena were worth the time it took to get me clear… however, Elena stresses the fact to keep up the maintenance with treatments once getting clear… I didn’t visit the spa for a year, and unfortunately let my skin go and came back all broken out again! Because she cares deeply for her clients, Elena, scolded me… and with loving kindness suggested to never ever let my skin go for too long without coming to the spa… as it is critical for people suffering from acne to continue treatment… I mean it makes sense, once you get clear you want to stay clear… so the time when extractions are done it won’t be as painful.
Just recently I now have been coming back, and I know now to have Elena help me to take care of my skin. Every treatment counts to resurface and rejuvenate the skin to maintain clarity. I believe that having the best esthetician along with good products will ultimately change my skin and affect how beautiful I feel. So after a series of 3 Acne Facials and 2 services of microdermabrasion and oxygen peels, my skin has already changed dramatically within just 1 Week! all my pimples have gone down drastically… I know my skin will be super clear !!, and that I won’t have to use as much makeup as I need to, if that none at all =) Also Elena always knows the best products to use to maintain a skin care regimen to use at home. Right now she has me on.
1. Cranberry Scrub Wash (am & pm)
2. Salycilic Glycolic Toner (am & pm)
3. Magic White Cream — to treat acne and dark spots (pm)
4. EGF — Repair Cream — this product is life changing!!! (am & pm)
5. Dr. Grandel– spf 30 Serum (am and when going out in the sun)
Each product has made a huge difference in between all my facials. I believe that you can’t get good skin just by visiting a skin care counter at a store, you have to have more invasive and extensive work done at this spa to achieve the best results in order for good products to work better into the skin, so you can actually see REAL progress !
I’m happy Elena has this spa for people like me to go to, in order to take good care of ourselves, so we can be comfortable in our own skin, and share our Beautiful Faces to the world

I spent my birthday here, I got the one of the packages. It was a 3 hour experience that came w chocolate covered strawberries champagne, facial and a massage.
It was a quite relaxing environment except they make you fill out a lot of paperwork I kinda felt like I was going to the doctor.
They put me in the facial room, where I got my eyebrows waxed first. My eyebrows are naturally thick and I specifically said I only wanted a clean up, they totally took all my shape away and formed them to what they thought was going to look good not only did they make my eyebrows thinner she started making rude comments saying how they are to thick and and don’t form my face. I didn’t ask her for her opinion cause she’s double my age and I doubt she knew what’s in right now. So with that being said she took away my arch and shaped my eyebrows like a rainbow. Total disaster!
Now on to the facial it was extremely painful which I know pain is beauty my skin does look better but she was saying how bad my skin was every chance she could my advice for her she needs to look in the mirror, I felt offended by her comments but let her proceed anyway.
The best part was the massage totally relaxing deep tissue, but she was commenting again while giving the massage saying things about my body being in pain she had made a comment saying oh your skin and bones are really bad, not knowing that I’m fight MMA SO yes my body is going to be in pain.
To the payment she tried to charge me extra for the facial after one price was already given she even had her son come up to defend her bottom line I payed for the initial price nothing extra.
Overall experience won’t ever go back !

I love California Skin Care and Day Spa. I bought a package of 6 facials and one microdermabrasion treatment and Elena has quite literally changed the look and texture of my face. She’s taught me a lot about taking care of my face and sold me a number of really good products for keeping my complexion clean, clear, and bright. I am thrilled and grateful.

Best Massage I have ever had! This review is for Joseph, who is new to California Skin Care. At first, I was a little put off by having a massage with a man, as I am a bit bashful. However, this deep tissue massage was part massage, part chiropractor, part energy healing — pure heaven! He is a magician, got out every knot, repositioned by hips, found pressure points I did not know I had to relieve stress in my shoulders and back that never go away. I will be going back — this time for the energy massage with Joseph.
The place is going through a renovation so it is currently nothing fancy, but it is clean and professional.

I came here with a bad melasma problem on my face. I tried lasers, creams and nothing worked. I spent thousand of dollars on different treatments that did nothing. I drove to san Ramon for months to see a top dermatologist that treated melasma. My face was in the worse shape than when I had started. So I decided to try this day spa in Newark, right down the street from my house. Elena recommended the herbal peel, the treatment lasted about 4 days total. The final results were AMAZING!!! I felt so good about myself. I wanted to thank California Skin Care & Day Spa for giving me the confidence I needed.

I love this place. .I’ve been coming for facials. Massages. Body wraps. Waxing for about 10 yrs I’d say… I love it. I always come 2 Elena. .she’s the best… but I’m also open to others…

I have been coming to California Skin Care for over 10 years. If you want your face cleaned, this is the place to go. Elena always does a diligent job on extractions and rewards you afterward with a soothing massage.

I came here yesterday with my friend who purchased a groupon deal for a microdermabrasion. I’m not sure what the lady’s name was that helped us, she had blonde hair and an accent. Anywho, she let me watch in on her doing the microdermabrasion on my friend, since I had never done one before I was very curious. She was nice enough to answer all my questions. She did a great job on my friend, her skin looked significantly improved almost immediately after! Makes me want to come back and get one for myself! She was a sweetheart and even gave us some sample skin cream! There’s also a very nice young lady at the check in area when u first walk in. It’s a great environment with many informative pamphlets lying around.

FYI I am only reviewing for the facial. I came here a while back with my mom and sister. I don’t mind paying more for premium quality services, this place was ridiculously overpriced for the quality of service. They do ‘extractions’ to remove dirt and active blemishes from your skin and it will leave your face red and scarred from whatever tool they use. Not only that, i was laying in the room for what seemed like forever, ALONE, with a face mask on, while my esthetician tended to other guests. I could have done that at home –_​_​_​-​. I didn’t leave feeling refreshed.

Elena has a magic and soothing touch. I have been coming here when I can for over 5 years and have yet to be disappointed. Packages are offered but no memberships or clubs to join. No automatic bank card fees. I like to support Newark businesses
as much as possible and for me this is FIVE STARs home town greatness.
ps the noise level is minimal and wearing your ipod earbuds is an option.

I got my eyebrows done by Elena and I have to recommend her because she was great listened to my eyebrows needs! ;) I will be back !

I came here because of a groupon deal purchase. Since I have been swamped with life and work, I used their online booking form and heard back from Elena within 24 hours. She was able to accommodate my requested time. I arrived for my facial and was pretty surprised of the location of this spa… Thinking to myself that the décor was fairly average. Elena greeted me and she was super friendly and helpful with my questions about skin care and solutions for problematic areas. My facial was very pleasant and thorough. Comparing to the last facial I had at the nordstrom salon, I prefer this place because of the following reasons:
Better facial instead of better décor
Better service
No upwelling of products… Just the real deal for my facial
They also honors my groupon even though it expired for a few days. I will definitely return for their massage and other services! Pretty awesome place in contrast to their competitions in the area.

My husband had arranged a gift package for my birthday, the lady in the front was nice the place was cozy, so we started the processes, first they gave me the hydro therapy the water was really hot to a point where I couldnt last 5 min in there I had told the lady she said sorry I cant do anything its too late so I waited for them for about 30 min to start my next session which was a brazilian facial they left me in the room for almost 2 hours with my hands and feet warped it was horrible after we went to the the massage it was good but she didn’t ask about my pressure points or where the main focus should have been directed. she kept trying to sell me the products and kept telling me I need a wrap cause my legs are to thick it was ridicules. The fact that they left me hanging in the facial room for 2 hours and attended to another client showed me that they didn’t value my business and we had paid close to 300 dollars. I didnt have a great experience.

I came here yesterday for a GX-​99 body wrap, and honestly I’m shocked at all the bad reviews this place has. The atmosphere was serene and relaxing, the actual location very clean. As other reviewers I was a little taken aback by the way the procedure goes down, but Pam was very professional and made me feel less nervous about the whole thing. As I went through my hour on the heated bed, she came and checked on me about five times.
The actual procedure, though pretty uncomfortable, was very effective.

I have been coming to this place for years. I have done all sorts of services from their menu of facials to the wax and spray tanning. I can’t wait to try the lash extension for the Holiday as well as indulge in a Mani/​Pedi. Each experience has always been pleasant and prices were reasonable too. The staff has always been professional and courteous so Im surprised by the low scores others have given this place. I have been a Day Spa aficionado for 20+ years and I know crap when I see it. My skin always glows when I leave and the compliments of my youthful complexion is proof positive that these ladies know their stuff. As long as I continue to live in the area, I will keep coming back. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

So i went back like i wanted for a body wrap
it was crazy how much that thing made me sweat! and i can see a slight trim up after i got unwrapped. im assuming all my water weight. the only thing i didnt like which is probably just personal reasons but you have to stay wrapped up for an hour, but the ladies were very nice checking up on me and gave me water with a straw every so often so i didnt get to hot. If i need to trim up before an event ill definitely do it again

I had a massage at this spa a few days ago. The massage was OK, but nothing special. I’ve had massages before when I feel amazing after them and feel like they really worked. This time I felt relaxed right after the massage, but no long-​term benefits. The place itself was fine, it seemed clean and the ladies seemed nice. The massagist didn’t talk at all during the massage, which I liked.
In terms of the logistics, they had messed up my booking a bit (booked me at the wrong time for the wrong type of massage).
Overall, I good place, but nothing exceptional.

Spray Tan Review Only:
I bought a Groupon for a spray tan because I am taking some pictures and I look like Casper! Elena, the owner, was very friendly and she was patient with me as I tried to fit in my appointment in my schedule.
I was early to my appointment and the door was locked, I guess because she was the only one there, so I went next door to eat.
I explained to her that I needed the tan to last until Tuesday so we thought medium would be best. The last time i had a tan they offered me disposable undergarments but here they didn’t have any so I just stayed in my undies and bra. That was ok because they were both black, otherwise I would have had to go nude.
This morning when I woke up I looked like Snookie, no joke… I freaked out because I had to go to work and i couldn’t go looking like a cast member from Jersey Shore so I showered even though you’re not supposed to because I didn’t want the color to process more. I don’t blame Elena for the color, she put it on so it would last me until Tuesday. It would have looked perfect by then, but I just freaked out because it was darker than what I’m used to.
Everything is now under control and it looks great. She did a good job and made sure I was covered completely.

Maybe I’m spoiled by Napa Valley spas but I wasn’t blown away by this place. A group of us went for a pre-​bachelorette spa day and I got the Day of Paradise package. The package included a 1hour massage, European facial, waxing, and foot. hand treatments. I was really looking forward to the package but I left the spa with mixed feelings. On one hand the massage was relaxing and the women tried very hard to make us happy, they even gave us snacks and sparkling wine. But on the other hand their version of a facial is like being tortured by an angry serial killer and they skipped the hand/​foot treatment I was so looking forward to. Not to mention that here I am 4 days later with my face is peeling and have more blemishes and breakouts than I did when I went there.
I saw another review here that said you could hear every noise in the building and that the open door facials made them uncomfortable. I completely agree. It was difficult to get into the relaxed mindset when I could hear everyone and their mother. And I was more than I little uncomfortable with the door is open as Jekyll attacked my face with an ice pick. Not than I’m an expert in facials but I don’t think you’re supposed to cry during them.
I don’t think they were prepared to handle 5 people at a time but they should have communicated that to us when we made the appointment more than a week in advance. The website said the package lasted 2.5 hours but we ended up spending more than 4 hours there (which is the main reason I didn’t even bring up the missing hand/​foot treatment). I don’t live in the area so It’s really a non-​issue but if I did live near by I wouldn’t go back.

Just received my body wrap here a few hours ago!
FIRST, let me say that these ladies are soooo generous, friendly, professional, and nice!
I had scheduled an appointment 2 days prior from today for a body wrap. They have 3 different body wraps, but I told her that I needed a body wrap that would help me trim some inches ASAP because I had an inspect coming up. THEY DO OFFER MILITARY DISCOUNT. I got the (gixer?) wrap which was originally $ 150 but I was charged $ 120.
While in the room, I was told to strip down completely. I found this quite unusual since most spa places allow you to keep your bra and undies on, so I felt completely uncomfortable at first. Then she told me to lie down on the table facing down, and she started to apply a cream to my entire back side. I told her how uncomfortable I felt because I wasn’t used to being completely naked in front of strangers, and she proceeded to calm my nerves by telling me this is normal for first timers and to relax because she was not there to judge, but to do her job. I started relaxing after the first few minutes, and she continued to massage me with this machine. She then did my other side (face up). Then she wrapped me with saran wrap and I laid on the table under the heated blanket for about 30 minutes. She came in every 10 minutes to check on me and to wipe my sweat from my face.
After that, she helped me get up and wipe all the sweat from my body (gross I know, but by now I had gotten used to this woman seeing me naked).
Then I walked out, I didn’t feel light headed or anything, and she kept asking me if I wanted water which I declined. But after, as I waited for my ride, her and the other associate both kept conversation with me.
The place was very clean, had this soothing feel to it.
Overall, I had a wonderful experience, I would and will recommend this to my fremont resident’s.
