I called to order a breast pump which I thought was supposed to be covered by my insurance company. Yummy mummy said they would verify with my insurance company that I was eligible before shipping the item. They said that they verified and then they shipped it. According to my insurance company, Yummy mummy never inquired into my eligibility, and they weren’t going to cover it. After being told it wasn’t going to be covered by my insurance, I offered to return the pump. They refused. Yummy mummy said that I owed them hundreds of dollars for the pump and had their collections company harass me. Their prices are way higher than what you could pay online at Amazon or other websites. I only used them because they claimed to do the work in getting the insurance to pay them directly.

I started the process to have a hospital grade breast pump rented through my insurance company a month in a half ago. A 1 ½ months of a rep that wasn’t very responsive and full of excuses. I spoke to the manager once and she gave me the run around as well and told me their was nothing that she could do.

I was contacted by Yummy Mummy’s COO who reached out to rectify the bad experience that I had in their store. She was very patient and understanding. She provided great customer service and helped my overall impression of the store. Although we didn’t discuss the larger and necessary plan to improve customer experience and training, I only hope that the store is also working to improve that. YM has a great mission and it would be amazing if the in-​store staff showed as much care as their leadership.

Janina, the salesperson, was awesome! She was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and patient. I’m just starting to show with my first pregnancy. So, I knew very little about the world of maternity clothes and nursing, before Janina helped me purchase what I needed, within my budget. She also gave me advice for later in pregnancy and nursing, too. I will definitely be back to Yummy Mummy often and look forward to having Janina’s fantastic assistance again.

I had a very positive experience shopping at Yummy Mummy for nursing bras. The staff was attentive and went to great lengths to help me feel comfortable with my (expensive) purchases. I suppose there’s no getting around the price tag but I was very happy to have purchased the nursing bras from Yummy Mummy.

My wife and I had a baby last week and the exclusive nursing has been excruciating for her. We saw a Lactation consultant who was able to fit us in on a Friday afternoon, and after realizing that there might be milk production issues she recommended we rent a breast pump immediately — that day!
The problem is, the discovery didn’t come until 5:30 and we live in Crown Heights where there aren’t many places to get a pump at all, let alone on short notice.
I called Yummy Mummy, knowing they close at 6:00, and the woman working at the store (Stefanie) was willing to stay late and wait for me to make the long trip up there — just to help avert the crisis! She was wonderful, and worked with me to make sure we were set up well with a one month rental which will give us time to find a more permanent solution. She even gave me a few recommendations on ways to potentially lower the costs of the pump through our insurance (we have Health First insurance, which they don’t take yet).
They saved the day!
P. S. — looking at some of the other reviews here about the in person staff being cold — they must have changed something around because Stefanie was wonderfully helpful, compassionate, and caring.

I had a bad experience with this company at first but eventually was contacted with the management who helped me with resolving the issue. I am more then convinced that this company cares about resolving any issues that arise with their customers.
Don’t be afraid to approach them if you have an issue with your experience.

The Store Manager was very helpful each time I was in the week after I delivered. Nursing was still trial and error at that point and she was friendly, informative and educational for the resources available to me. I had gone in approximately 3 – 4 times following that and each time my experience was very pleasant and welcoming.

I love this place because it’s really a one-​stop shop, if you need something for breastfeeding, it’s here. The people who work here are knowledgeable about all the stuff in the store, and they have good tips. I rented a breast pump from YM this spring, and they had the brand I wanted ready to go right away, and attachments available for purchase. I could have spent hundreds of dollars in there on all the awesome nursing tanks & other accessories, but I wasn’t pressed to do so. I called to extend my rental & the people on the phone were polite & helpful.
I like seeing a place out there that is so supportive of nursing, if you are a breastfeeding mom or plan to be definitely check it out, it’s pretty neat. If you are looking for a gift this is a great place too.

As others have mentioned the customer service here is awful. Women who work in the store are rude, cold, and uninterested. For a store that specializes in breast feeding — a vulnerable thing and time for any woman — you would think the people who work here would be open, kind, and nice. It is the opposite. I am always one to patronize small stores, but run fast away from this store.

So helpful! With preterm twins in the NICU I was advised to get a hospital grade pump and they recommended Yummy Mummy from their list of providers. Uniqueca was amazing. So sweet and helpful, and she tirelessly helped me for weeks to get my insurance information straight and to them to correctly to ensure coverage. I’m so grateful to her because it was another thing I didn’t have a lot of time to deal with with so much happening. Thanks Uniqueca!

Yummy Mummy saved the day. It was one of the providers listed by our insurance companies for obtaining a breast pump. We turned to them because another company royally screwed things up and left us close to our baby’s due date with no pump and no notice.
We called Yummy Mummy to place an order and later that day, we received confirmation that the order was being processed. It shipped out the blurry next day and we got it within a week. The operator was very pleasant on the phone and there were no hold times. Essentially, our experience here was how it should be. Definitely recommended.

The staff at the yummy mummy store here are so very helpful and pleasant. Even to dads who shop there without the moms! Highly recommended.
On the other hand those same great employees don’t handle the insurance claim processing. That is done by telephone and what a nightmare that was. They didn’t understand how to figure out the BCBS billing and argued with me that they could not accept the plan.
After much grief, I was able to «convince» or teach them insurance handling.
Great brand for face to face needs at retail outlet.
Go elsewhere if you need insurance billing.

DO NOT BUY BREAST PUMPS HERE!!! I took two months to actually get my first pump– there was some «mix-​up they said. They sent me the wrong breast pump twice… twice! The second time I saw the box logo was incorrect but thinking hey, they can’t have sent me the wrong pump again, they must have just shipped it in a different box… so I cracked open the top to see that it was indeed the wrong pump. I called the company and they WILL NOT TAKE IT BACK because I opened it. Really???
I am supposed to hear from a supervisor but have left her 3 messages with no return call. Fingers crossed someone calls me and can resolve this issue.

Yummy Mummy irresponsibly canceled breastfeeding classes that my partner and I signed up for — twice. This time, they didn’t even tell us the class was canceled. We had to proactively call and find out. DO NOT book classes at this store and think they’ll actually follow through with holding said classes. Look elsewhere for education.

It’s about the service and convenience.
I needed a nursing bra (a real bra, not sleepwear). I needed it to be professionally fitted, which couldn’t be done while I was pregnant, but rather had to wait until I started nursing. I had a newborn and didn’t have time to shop. I was in and out in literally 15 minutes with two perfectly fitting nursing bras thanks to their help. The price of the bras are comparable to online, but they have high quality clothes, so it wasn’t cheap.

I have not heard from this company at all! I tried to contact them but no response. I sent my check to pay for my breast pump but I wished that I never bought from this company. Just weird and horrible customer service.

Yummy Mummy is a great resource in the UES. Glad it is a clean, welcoming place. They have a very good selection of anything you could possibly need! One comment: the sales people could be a little better trained on breastfeeding. I asked one of them what the laws were re: public breastfeeding in NYC and she said it was ok as long as I covered up… And actually te laws states you don’t have to cover up. Not a big deal of course. Glad this shop exists!

My wife took a breastfeeding class there and was quite pleased. The shop itself is nice and well stocked.
The reason for my low rating was that when I went to pick up my wife and daughter at the store, upon looking at me the young woman working there said, «Oh your wife left already.» I pointed at my wife sitting in the back of the store with my daughter and said, «That’s my wife.» She said, «Oh…» and slinked away. The reason why this somewhat innocuous exchange is upsetting is that I am Asian-​American and my wife is Caucasian. The woman who the employee thought was my wife must have been a woman of Asian descent that had been taking the class. This employee unfairly assumed that I could only have been married to a woman of my own race. This sort of casual racism is something that must be stopped. It is not small and insignificant to me and my family. And I’m greatly offended.

Came here because I needed a nursing shield as prescribed by our pediatrician for our very premature son. She told me they were sized based on his size, and not my body. I came to Yummy Mummy straight away without looking online to shop because I needed it now.
When I went in, looking very much like a new mother, and asked for the piece describing what it was used for, the sales women did not know what it was. She went to ask the women presumably in charge. This women quickly pointed the piece out to the women helping me and then returned to other business, so I waited to ask her about sizing since it was unclear on the packaging. I told her my baby was 6 lbs and needed the smallest size but she continued to insist that I buy the one sized for me, even though they all looked the same size on the «mom» end, and different sized on the end that went into the baby’s mouth. I should have gone with my instinct rather then listend to this «expert» at an over-​priced boutique breastfeeding shop.
Of course after use I could not return the piece, and I ended up purchasing the right size later from my lactation consultant after much frustration with an over sized nipple my poor son could not latch. Thanks for complicating an already complicated situation. The Upper Breast Side (on the UWS!) is better all around and worth the trip. Better store layout, more merch, and much better customer service.
