I got a groupon for a microdermabrasion and two facials for $ 45. I went in for my first appointment and was given a 10 minutes microdermabrasion and was told facial does not include extractions. So I asked how much extra? They told me $ 95! This was a «special» as its usually $ 140? I said no thank you and instead I got a mini facial that lasted about 15 minutes. The groupon I bought did not say it was going to be a mini facial. In addition, I was left alone for about 20 minutes because she was alone and had to answer the door and their massage beds are not that comfortable.
I just wanted to leave already. I can’t remember the name of the girl who did my facial. She was alright, but my advice is to save your $$ and go elsewhere. It was not even worth half of what I paid in groupon. I will write to groupon next to complain.

I visited Yin beauty spa again although I have read some negative reviews. I am not a regular spa person, but need to get it done on special occasions. At Yin I was able to get an excellent facial treatment from Karen. The salon is clean, and the room is comfortable. I even felt sleep and energized after the treatment. The people working there were friendly and take the first priority on each customer.
The spa has been updating their services and new machines after my last visit. It seems they provide the cutting-​edges service and the newest technology. Their Germany KLAPP skincare product are really in good quality and fits everybody’s need.
Worth the $$ spent here.

I paid for a facial, when I got there the manager said she will only be doing my forehead and I will have to come back next week for the rest of my face… I told her no, I paid for a facial please work on my full face. After 15 minutes of work she said okay you need to buy this 10 pack of oil and I will use one of the 10 right now. I told her I won’t be buying products today thank you. She showed extreme anger and was very annoyed with me. She then told me I need to do LED light treatment for an extra 75 $ … Once again I said just the facial will do. She slapped on some Neutrogena sun block and said okay your done. I will never be going back to Yin Spa, I was later recommended by a friend a great facial spa named Christine Chin located in the Lower East Side.

I purchased a peel on Living Social. When I made the appointment, the spa manager already tried to sell me additional services over the phone (facial, extractions, mask, etc). When I arrived and had a brief skin consultation, I was told that I would need to do a facial or purifying treatment for $ 75 before the peel since my «pores were completely clogged.» I know that a peel should be performed on exfoliated skin, and I’ve had several in the past with good results at other salons, AND I had recently had a facial. I was also told my skin was «oily» which is a first for me in 20 years of getting facial treatments. My skin is always dry.
I said no thanks, I don’t want any other treatment, just what I paid for, and since you have told me that it’s a bad idea to get it, I will be leaving. But she redeemed my voucher BEFORE the consultation, and then told me she was unable to refund it and that I should reschedule for a peel with a purifying treatment. I called Living Social and they said it wasn’t true, she could have refunded it (perhaps she did not understand how) and thankfully refunded me the amount and cancelled the voucher. Since I didn’t have any treatment, I can’t comment on that — maybe the treatments provided are good. But I lost faith in the place.

This place is awful. I bought a crowd savings voucher for a lipo cave massage and the machine was so high-​pitched they I felt like I was going to lose my hearing. I couldn’t take it, I almost fell off of the table when they turned it on. They offered me a 30 minute massage instead of the $ 150 service that I was supposed to receive. So angry! I would have gotten an hour-​long massage anywhere else AND the people would have been nicer.

Although it seems that some people haven’t had the greatest experience here, I found the treatments I received at Yin to be very effective. Angie, my facialist, has been going above and beyond to help my troubled skin return to normalcy. I’m most grateful for her help, as well the personal attention demonstrated by Catherine.

I went to this salon one day that I wanted to treat myself. I got a facial and a relaxing massage. Both were excellent and I now keep coming back! The service is always attentive and well done. The rooms are very clean and quiet which is uncommon in the city.
If you live or work in the neighborhood you can try it, I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

I went here for the stone massage special for first time visitors. Having had many stone massages that are quite pricey, I was very excited to get one at an affordable price.
I was pretty unhappy. I am quite sure the person doing the massage was not professionally trained.
Before she started, she said I needed to relax my legs and actually pulled them apart-​hard!
The stones are supposed to be placed on an area massaged to keep the massage feelings of calm continuing. Instead this lady used the stones like she was doing laundry in a river.
She used a lot of oil, but never washed it off and I had to put on my clothes like that.
She bent my legs up while laying face down, and definitely hurt my knees.
Finally, she took a towel and put it behind my head swinging my head back and forth in a rough, uncomfortable manner.
It was hot, dirty and smelled terrible there as well.

I was shocked at the price I was charged… there was a sign outside that said Facial $ 40 …I was charged $ 145! I didn’t get any product and my tech was alone and had to answer the phones and the door and work on another client at the same time.

After a decade of visits to dermatologists and aestheticians, and years of creams, antibiotics and expensive lasers, I didn’t believe Katherine (at Yin Spa), who told me that my problem skin is treatable. I am glad to say I was wrong — she has kept her promise and more. She is efficient and effective, as well as extremely knowledgeable. Also, look out for specials — the package deals are a steal.

I had seen the negative reviews before I visited this place, thinking that they were extreme and overly harsh. Unfortunately, I have learned that this is not the case.
I had a Groupon for 1 microdermabrasion, and not only did they immediately try to push other services on me (even while making the appointment by phone), but the woman who I worked with (Catherine) said some very insulting things to me about my skin and face.
I know I don’t have perfect skin, but she made it sound like it was absolutely imperative that I get 3 follow up facial treatments. She gave me a full lecture on skin health, and then offered me a «discounted» price of $ 75 per session. She wanted me to commit right there on the spot, as I was laying down on the table, waiting for the procedure to start. When I tried to explain to her that that is beyond my budget, she insisted that it is entirely «normal» for people to spend $ 95 per session, and that she was giving me a good deal.
Needless to say, the experience was very unpleasant. Unless you are ready and willing to spend big bucks at this place, I’d say don’t bother.

I had an appointment for a basic microdermabrasion, which they said would take 20 minutes when I made the appointment. What I got was a 25-​minute wait, multiple people asking me what I was there for, multiple people asking for my Groupon voucher, multiple people trying to sell me things, and a request at the very end to pay taxes on the Groupon I had purchased for the service. I was particularly unhappy about the fact that I walked out one hour later for a service that should have taken 20 minutes.

This place is great and I cannot recommend Karen enough!
I was very wary about trying Yin Beauty after reading some of these reviews but I decided to try it out and purchased a Bloomspot offer for a 30 minute facial and foot massage. ***For those of you considering this offer, it does not included extractions [for blackheads, etc]*** but I chose to throw down an extra $ 35 for it. Karen was my esthetician and masseuse. She is so kind, intelligent, friendly, and knowledgeable – a real pleasure to work with. She explained in great detail the problem areas of my skin and even offered some low-​cost– DYI methods to give myself an at-​home facial [who knew Pineapple could remove blackheads?] The extractions were virtually pain-​free and all the products she used felt and smelled amazing.
The massage was incredibly relaxing and I really appreciated that she offered to do half neck/​half foot massage instead of just the 30 minute foot massage I bought in the promo. I would have been happy with just the foot massage but it was so nice of her to offer to mix it up a little and I’m really glad I did!
My skin looks the best it has in years, super bright and very clean. I like the entire establishment – really cool and cozy look and very clean – but I owe my amazing experience to Karen. I’ll be back in the future to work with her again!

I walked into Yip with low expectations since the
review were so awful. I purhased a 1 hour slimming massage on KGB.
Everyone was very polite, thoughtful, and very professional. I chatted with one of the estheticans btw her skin was flossful! A very nice Colombian-​Venezuelan lady by the name of Cris –Attended me and wow this woman has hands of gold. Cris and I immediately connected– she’s very knowledgeable and she was able to walk me through the session which was somewhat painful. I purchased 2 more sessions with her.
I highly recommend this spa! This spa is cozy, intimate, and fabulous! Cris is a I do it all esthesian.

The facials (I get the deep cleansing ones) are AMAZING. I’ve been going here for a year and they’ve completely changed my complexion. When I first showed up, I had acne all along my chin area and I really didn’t think that could change. After a few weeks of intensive care, there was significant change. I can honestly say it’s the first time I have had a facial in which I SEE a difference.
A year later and my skin is mostly clear (can’t help genetics sometimes) and I go in for my monthly «checkup.»
The staff is friendly enough but not overly so which suits me fine. They can also be a bit blunt especially about my skin but once again, suits me fine.
Bottom line, the facials are AWESOME and worth it. My facialist is Catherine and I highly recommend her. Fantastic and she really works hard at clearing up my skin.

Boy oh boy did i wish i read these reviews before purchasing my Living Social deal for a slimming massage and body wrap from Yin Beauty & Arts Spa. WORST SPA EXPERIENCE EVER!!! i have never been so disappointed, i even left angry and i’d like to think im a calm person.
it started off very rushed, even though i was 15mins early for my appt. I was told this wasn’t a body massage and i had to pick just one area to work on, which was the first let down b/​c it never said that in the deal. Next came the treatment itself, on my thighs as I had chosen. So much pain! The whole treatment only lasted about 10mins on each leg which was music to my ears as it was incredibly painful. Upon telling Wendy, the one working on me, that it was painful, she just giggled and said it was b/​c i had so much fat there! She told me about 10 tens from start to finish about how my thighs had «so much» fat and cellulite. RUDE!
Then the warming cream settled in and omg it burned and burned and 2 hours affter leaving the salon, it still BURNS! Feels like the worst sunburn of my life.
Upon leaving, Wendy tried to have me purchase a series of treatments which she said I really could use b/​c of all the «fat» — I declined politely and then she said «so this whole session was just a waste of my time, huh?!» I AM OUTRAGED!
I will be leaving a review with living social as well… wouldnt recommend this place to anyone.

I got the Lifebooker $ 29 for Green Tea Pedicure plus Manicure deal. Sounded like a great birthday present to myself… until I got to the place.
The spa specializes in massage and acupuncture, mainly — nothing wrong with that. But I didn’t like how they reminded me over the phone to bring enough cash to tip 18−20% on the original price of the deal ($ 125). I’ve never been to this spa before so I didn’t know how luxurious the mani-​pedi would be to have an original price of $ 125.
In any case, I get there and while waiting for my appointment, a girl was at the receptionist desk paying. I guess she got the lifebooker deal too because she was asked to give at least $ 20 for tip! I can’t believe they blatantly asked for tip! They even had a sign up on the desk about gratuity.
The spa itself is very nice and clean — no problems there. The mani-​pedi was great too. The lady I had was very courteous and gentle. She was very thorough and didn’t rush through. She even scolded me a bit about my cuticles (oops).
Even though the mani-​pedi itself was great, I couldn’t help but feel cheated because of the whole tip thing. I tried calculating why the package was $ 125, because in the mani-​pedi room, there was a price list and the Green Tea Pedi was $ 50 and a Green Tea Mani was $ 35. Hmmmmm, doesn’t add up! Also, I was pretty sure the lifebooker deal was for a Green Tea Pedi plus a Regular Mani… so it definitely wasn’t worth $ 125!!!
I feel cheated :(
