Very friendly staff that go out of their way to help out. This would be for star but the rooms are so small there is not anywhere to put luggage. You are tip toeing around or not step on anything. Bathroom is very pretty and a large shower. Good hotel. Small rooms

After staying and experiencing the room at Hotel Penn (even though it was a better location), this place was amazing. Its like a palace compared to it. As soon as we walked in, we got greeted and was asked for our names. I checked-​in on Unilocal and it said we could claim some Free organic drink but we asked around and everyone seemed not to know what we were talking about. Anyway, I was bummed we couldn’t try it but life goes on.
The rooms are pretty nice. Very clean and comfortable beds. Room itself wasn’t too big but not too small either. When it was almost time to check-​out, I remember someone kept knocking the door very often to try to make us leave!!! I didn’t mind but after a night out we were a bit slow to gather things. On the way out, I also asked for the Free organic drink but the got the same response from everyone.
Would definitely try to come back here if NYC calls again.

Loved this hotel. Great location near times square and hell’s kitchen, check in was fast and easy, the rooms were decent and they have food and a bar on site. With my Unilocal check in I got a free drink. They have Natura organic wine, as well as any other standard bar drinks you can think of. The bartenders were super friendly. In comparison to a similar hotel nearby that I have stayed at, the rooms here are a little bigger and there is a safe in the room. I like that they will hold your luggage for you. This made it easy when I had a few hours to kill before heading to the airport and I wanted to see the city a little more. The rooms are comfortable and semi-​modern. My only complaint was that the lighting in the bathrooms were terrible. I wasn’t sure how my makeup would come it. Someone please fix this =)

I stayed here for New York Comic Con aka Open-​Mouth Breathing Nerd Fest. From JFK, you can take the Airtrain to Jamaica Center, then take the E train to 34^th Penn Station, and finally walk two blocks to the hotel. The hotel is a short five block walk to Javits Convention Center.
Check-​In was a breeze. The rooms are small, but still fairly decent for the price. The hotel is really new and was built in 2008. I did notice that the bathroom was really humid. I really liked having the little refrigerator in the room, so that I can store my bottled water. You can walk around the corner to the 7 – 11 on Eighth Ave. and 37^th Street to pick up cheap bottled water. If you need office supplies, there is a Staples at 500 Eighth Ave. A central post office is located at 421 Eighth Ave.
I found the concierge extremely helpful. She gave me a good recommendation for lunch and printed out my ticket to the Empire State Building so I did not have to wait in the ticket line.

The wife and I just got back from sleeping three nights in the Wyndham Gardens, and I must say that we were exceptionally satisfied with the hotel. We booked it a scant two weeks before our trip and all the other hotels were filled or filling fast so we thought we were stuck with the sloppy seconds when we booked this. The hotel has some curb appeal and the lobby is quite modern and clean, but we still held our breath in fear as we opened the door to room 2404. We were greeted in the room by a huge sigh of relief.
The room was clean, well-​appointed, and I would believe it if you told me we were the first guests to stay in it — it was that clean. The room is smallish, occupied primarily by a king-​sized bed, but it fit our needs just fine. The room has its own bathroom with a shower, toilet, and sink — all looking and feeling clean and new. It has a cabinet for hanging clothes, complete with an extra blanket and a room safe. Next to the cabinet are a desk and another cabinet, and over this cabinet is a flat-​screen television mounted on the wall while inside the cabinet is a small (and vacant) refrigerator. There are ample outlets for charging items (I counted 12 in the bedroom alone). The wall thermostat controls the heater/​air-​conditioner under the window (and the a/​c worked well for us). The windows afforded us a nice view and the double-​panes kept the room quiet as we slept. Due to all the furniture there isn’t much room to walk around. There is room for putting on your shoes and getting from point A to point B, but you couldn’t do sit-​ups or push-​ups anywhere except for the entrance hall, and I think a wheelchair is impossible. As for bedbugs, we saw no evidence of any.
The location is weird. The actual street of the hotel is rather sketchy, with a lot of drab closed buildings and less than satisfactory light. 36^th Street doesn’t get many taxi cabs, either. However, once you’re on 8^th or 9^th Streets you’ll feel better. In fact, the hotel is really in quite a good location when it comes to midtown sights. Penn Station (and access to the A, C, and E lines) and Madison Square Garden are a few blocks away. Times Square is just a little over a few blocks away (we walked to the Foxwoods Theater). If you wanted to you could walk to the Empire State Building or the main library/​Bryant Park. There is food on both 8^th and 9^th streets (though few chains) and a halal café just a few doors down on 36^th Street. Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market is also just a few blocks away if you have time on the weekend to visit. When we booked the room we were hoping to be «in the thick of things» by being up on the 40-​something Streets, but this location proved to be an excellent launching pad for everywhere we wanted to go — and we went uptown, downtown, to Tarry Town, and all about.
Our issues with the hotel are few and petty: no cab driver in town has heard of the place so you need to memorize the address, Google maps keeps placing you at the intersection of the shore line and Lincoln Tunnel. That’s it.
We didn’t try their food or drinks. We didn’t use their Wi-​Fi. Our room was left alone while our Do Not Disturb sign was hung. Service was excellent whenever we relied on it. They let us stow our bags for a few hours after check-​out free of charge. John, the guy who stowed our bags, also hailed us a cab when it was time for the ride to JFK. Nice guy. Tip him well.

I am staying here right now. This is a pretty good place — good location for tourists but a little far away from Wall Street or financial district for business.
Yes, the room are small. However, this is NYC. How much space does one really need? Unless you want to sit around all day, then I could see this being an issue. While I won’t criticize the size of room, I am going to criticize the hotel’s use of space in the room. Because the rooms are small, they need to do more for storage space. Look at Yotel for example — they have small rooms, but there are more things that hotel provides for storage that makes the smaller rooms feel manageable. The rooms are nice, but the use of space in the room is tough to deal with and manage.
Also, two elevators. For 26 floors.
Besides that, the rooms are clean, the pillows are nice for a hotel, and customer service is pretty good. They have a business center where you can print as well.
Overall, not a bad place to stay. Close to everything you need.

didnt do much research on this place but compared to hotel penn (where i stayed the night before), this place was pimpin.
Service was good and fast. almost too fast. The room service guy came like every 10 mins before our 12pm check out for like 2hrs. come on. chill out! Hungover people are slow to get out.
They had a Unilocal deal where if you checked in you could get a free organic drink! whatever the hell that is… the concierge didnt even know what it was and after a couple days of stalling i just gave up on it. I booked the hotel just for the free organic drink damnit! jk.
This place is definitely catered towards people affiliated with business. Free internet in each room, an abundance of plugs, and your own stationary on the room in the desk. I mean. what hotel supplies you with paperclips and crap haha.
I would stay here again

I know it’s Manhattan but…
I travel a lot for work, and this is one of my least favorite stays. The room is tiny. There is not room for ONE suitcase and not enough closet /​drawer space for two people for more than a one or two night stay. We were staying 7 nights (5 for business, two for pleasure) and it was extremely cramped. I spoke with several other guests who were grumbling about their rooms as well. I spoke with others who were staying in other area hotels who indicated that their rooms were much more reasonably sized for not much more money.
The «Grab and Go» breakfast included with the room is lame — one cold pastry (the sticky sweet ones you buy at a convenience store), one fruit (green or red apple — there is no other fruit option). No plate — they really want you to grab and GO so occasionally offered a bag for my pastry. They alluded to a fee (the person at the front desk told me that it would be about $ 10/​day), which would get me an omlette. That’s got to be one amazing omlette for an extra $ 10.00.
I purchased two bottles of water in the lobby to take to the room. I grabbed the bottles from the cooler in the lobby, handed it to the cashier to pay for, and was charged a 15% «gratuity» for the purchase. Really? for two bottles of water that I had to grab myself?
So I asked if there was a pop machine — i thought I could buy water and pop from there from now on. The concierge showed me to the machine. Every product was empty. EVERY one. So I’m stuck.
Finally, the flat screen television in the room is nice, but their television service provider does not provide a TV Listings channel, so you have no idea what is on any of the channels without manually changing from channel to channel. Irritating and gives new meaning to the words «channel surfing».
On the plus side, the beds are very comfortable, the rooms are clean, and the bathrooms are nice (no counter space though) and the WiFi is free. In my books that doesn’t warrant the $ 310+ nightly rate they charge. I travel a lot, and next trip to New York I’ll be staying elsewhere.

I stayed here while I was taking the July 2011 NYS Bar Exam… so my review is from the point of view of a crazy, sleep deprived, nervous wreck of a person.
When I was searching for hotels to stay in for those two grueling days, I literally Googled «hotels near the Javits Center with comfortable beds», and I thankfully came across the Wyndham.
The beds are SUPER comfortable, and the hotel is everything I could have wanted and more.
I don’t actually know how to explain what it feels like to be studying for/​taking the bar exam, but I can tell you that even the smallest thing could send you into a downward spiral towards an emotional breakdown. I realize I sound dramatic, but I swear this is true for everyone.
Anyway, since we were all such fragile messes while we were there, it was important for the hotel to be flawless – and the Wyndham really exceeded our expectations.
The staff was outstanding. My friend had to print something the night before the exam and there were people at all of the public computers, so the woman at the front desk let her send the document to the main computer and she printed it out for her. It was small things like that that kept us all from freaking out, and I couldn’t be more thankful!
If you’re taking the bar exam at the Javits Center, the Wyndham is the PERFECT place to stay. It’s a 5 minute walk away, and it is a comfortable and friendly environment that you will be happy to be in for those two hot July days.
The only drawback is that it is a little expensive, but can you really put a price on sanity???

The Good!
— The rooms are comfy and stylish. YES, they are small, but its MANHATTAN PEOPLE!
— The bathrooms are VERY nice. I love the glass showers, clean and warm, much needed after a long day in the city!
— The staff was lovely and always greeted us on the way in and out.
— A five minute walk to Penn Station and the A, C, E lines– VERY convenient.
The Bad :(
— As a woman I was super irked by the hotels faulty hair dryers which they are very aware of. They literally turn off every 5 minutes so with someone with a good head of hair, find another way to get your hair done!
— Although the food at the Greenhouse is DELICIOUS (I had the burger) it was a little on the pricey side!

Situated in the south-​east end of Hell’s Kitchen. Walking distance to Times Square, Javits Center, and Penn Station.
The rooms were tiny, but clean. Flat screen TV in our room worked about 70% of the time. The outlets went out mid-​stay, but they were quick in getting to our room to fix it. The staff and concierge are more than accommodating. The fitness facility has a couple treadmills, some free weights and a couple machines. They also have a continental breakfast setup each morning with an omelet option for an additional $ 5. Not bad for a quick, affordable bite to eat to start your day.
Not too much to rave about, but for the convenience of being in the middle of everything its worth its value. Free Wi-​Fi throughout the facility, which is always a bonus. I’d more than likely choose to stay here again if I needed to be close to the convention center.

Let’s tackle some of my Unilocal backlog today and talk about the Wyndham Garden Hotel near Times Square. For those of you who don’t stalk me (but would like to), this is a hotel I visited last summer when Liz G. and Michelle M. came to visit me.
Michelle M. may have gotten some sort of discount to stay here through working for Apple — the hotel turned out to be much nicer than I expected. We killed about an hour here before taking Michelle M. to Times Square where she was amazed for nearly 45 minutes (it was her first trip to the big city).
I have to say… the beds were comfy and the towels fluffy. Without having the insider knowledge of how much it costs or how much my friends paid, I would describe this place as pretty gosh darn nice. And as picky as I am about things, I’m even pickier about hotels. I would totally stay here though.

I stayed at the Wyndham Garden in April for 10 days on business. There was a group of us there and everyone surely had their own experience, so I’ll comment on mine.
The location is great. Just a few blocks from Penn Station and subway lines. 9^th Ave and food are right around the corner.
When it comes to check in, they are not prepared at all for a large group check in. They didn’t have enough room to store luggage. We set this stay up many months in advance, so they were well aware of our arrival times and needs. They could not accommodate us. We literally had luggage all over their small lobby.
The rooms were very small and cozy. There is a small refrigerator in the room and unsecured internet is free in the room. There is NO CLOSET. There is a cabinet that you can use as a closet. There is a desk with drawers that you can put clothes in. This is not accommodating at all for someone traveling more than a couple of days. The bathroom has no counter space and the shower door leaked when in use and we had to use towels to catch the water.
The elevators are very slow in this hotel. They are also used by the entire hotel staff. So around 5−6pm when the laundry comes in. You, as the paying guest, have to wait for linens to go down before you can get to your room. Which is just downright rude, if you ask me.
I travel with work often and sign up for points programs. Wyndham would not allow my colleagues to use their stay to earn points in their reward program since the company was paying for the stay. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! If this is important to you, go Hilton! It’s never ever a problem to be recognized as a loyal customer whether you or your company is paying for the visit.

I stayed here recently with my partner for a conference. The location is in the Garment District, south of Times Square. It’s actually really convenient if you’re coming from Penn Station, Bolt Bus pick up/​drop off area, or Port Authority.
The hotel is pretty new, narrow, and tall — a walk around the first floor revealed a café and a restaurant with booths that allowed access to the internet so I could see the younguns checking Facebook. There’s a restaurant in the back and a stairwell leading to the basement where the fitness center and public restrooms are. Our room was on the 4^th floor so no great views, but we could take the stairs and avoid the 2 slow elevators.
Our room was probably the smallest we’ve ever stayed in — King-​sized bed and just barely enough room to walk around the small wardrobe, desk, and flat panel tv. Crisp sheets, fluffy pillows, and we had our own bathroom. I don’t care that much since I usually use a hotel room for sleeping.
They have a rooftop bar which was nice. This definitely feels like a NYC phenomenon. Great snacks, strong drinks.
Convenient to Times Square and Broadway. We were really close to Bryant Park, too; unfortunately, Fashion Week moved to Lincoln Center for the SS 2011 shows! No skinny beautiful people to make us feel bad about ourselves — bummer.

Pros: centrally located near almost everything. Nice rooms, although small. Starbucks coffee in the lobby. Cordial staff and attendants. Price for midtown is fantastic.
Cons: I found it odd that in the” city that never sleeps «the starbucks didnt open until 6:30 AM. Shower that leaked huge puddles and even after reporting to the front desk, maintanience wasnt able to resolve the problem.
Final: definately would stay there again

, and I was very happy with my stay at this hotel. The rooms are small, but it’s NYC, so 1) who cares? and 2) how you gon expect anything but that? The place is clean, modern, staffed with friendly people, and conveniently located in walking distance of Penn Station, Times Square, and lots of touristy things, plus of course lots of subway stations.
There were also some nice random fringe benefits — free breakfast vouchers (coffee or tea, a pastry, and a fruit from the downstairs café), bottled water in the rooms, happy hour from 4 – 5 with complimentary wine and cheese (not sure if that’s every day), and cookies outside the elevator in the evening.
The only bummer was the elevator situation. We were on the 25^th floor, and there were just two elevators, and they were slow! But a minor inconvenience in the bigger scheme of things.

Searching for a good hotel in NYC at the very last minute is not an easy task. There are so many neat places to choose from — but it’s all about location. In this city, it DOES matter where you stay. Depending on what you’re doing, where you’re going and what your preferences are, choosing a NICE hotel that doesn’t break the bank in NYC can be excruciatingly painful. There in lies the decision; do you want upscale or moderate? Do you want to be close to the tourists or away from that noise? Do you want to share a bathroom? Do you like bed bugs or would you rather have an itch-​free night?
I chose the Wyndham Garden Hotel (South Times Square) for many reasons; new hotel, away from the tourists — but within walking distance to Times Square, special offer on
that gave us almost a 50% savings! You will NOT find anything in the city for under $ 200 a night in a nice hotel — unless you score a sweet deal off a travel site. We lucked out.
One rule of thumb is this; if the hotel rate is lower than $ 200 — IN Manhattan — INVESTIGATE. Look it up on various travel review sites, bed bug registry, Unilocal… it really does come in handy to have peace of mind.
We arrived at the Wyndham Garden a few hours before check-​in and front desk accommodated us immediately, giving us a room within minutes of arriving. The hotel is located in the Garment District, between 8^th and 9^th off 36^th St. It’s brand new and stands out compared to the rest of the buildings it’s surrounded by. The lobby is very inviting; lounge chairs throughout, a full bar, business center/​restaurant behind the elevators and a nice outside courtyard with more dining options.
The room I got was small w/​queen size bed. I didn’t mind too much because i wasn’t sharing a bathroom with other guests (you’ll be amazed as how many hotels have this communal bathroom thing) and I was on the 21^st floor. The noise was somewhat minimal at night, but the view during the day was nice.
The square footage of the room was about 200 sq. ft. Feasible if you are staying alone — but if you are staying with a friend or your significant other — it can get a little stuffy. We managed just fine and didn’t experience any issues, especially claustrophobia.
The queen size bed was comfy, the sheets crisp and cool, the pillows plush and fluffy — everything was great. House Keeping didn’t come around daily (i stayed for 5 nights), but that could have been my fault. The DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door might have been the problem.
The bathroom was very roomy — equipped with a hair dryer, bath products and lots of white towels. There is no bath tub, just a shower with glass doors.
Standard room amenities. i believe there was a gym on site (yeah, like i was there to work out) and a rooftop bar, which I never made it to.
I highly recommend the Wyndham if you’re looking to stay slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet want to be close enough to be able to walk to it. And this hotel is very close to many train stations that will take you virtually anywhere in NYC.
That’s the great thing about New York City; the transportation system is awesome. Sure, you have to nail the city grid down and know where you are going and what letter or number train to take. i became familiar with the E train. That took me uptown and downtown in Manhattan.
We also used this phenomenal tool called LEGS. Took us everywhere for a small price of SORENESS.

This hotel was great. Very affordable and very clean. The staff was so nice. We had an early check-​in (9am!) and a late check out (don’t ask — it’s so late it’s absurd, but our baby was sleeping so I think they took pity on us).
The rooftop bar was a nice touch, and the lobby/​lounge seemed cool.
My only concern (if you call it that) was the size of the rooms. I heard they were small, but… I never imagined this small! If it was just me and/​or my husband, I wouldn’t have given it a second thought. However, we have a toddler and needed a crib (which was waiting in our room when we got there — sweet!). We could barely fit the stroller in the room as well. We immediately requested a larger room, but they don’t really have them… except for wheelchair accessible rooms on the 11^th floor. They gladly gave us an accessible room and it had a few extra feet in the entryway that gave us the space we needed for the stroller and some wiggle room for our kid. By the way, even though we were close to the street, there were no concerns about street noise — it was all good.
All in all, a great hotel for a great price.
(FYI, the rooftop bar offered a great view of an underwear-​clad dude in his fancy apartment across the street. :-))

My experience here was not bad overall, the rooms were pleasant and definitely a decent size, much better than the usual nyc hotels (which are like holes in the wall.)
im taking off stars mostly because of the service — we checked in late, and we were tired, ready to hit the sack. but the dude at the front desk took his sweet time and just acted as if he really couldnt be bothered. some serious attitude problem going on.
the location isnt bad, pretty convenient, to Times sq and port authority.

The only reason we had picked this hotel was because it was near Time Square and had one of the best deal on priceline. Since it was quite cheap, we were expecting it to be on the lower tier, boy were we wrong. The taxi driver informed us that this is the newest hotel around here. We found out from the front desk that it has not even been around for half a year yet. Since check-​in time was not until 3 PM and we had arrived there at 9AM, we ran to the bathroom to freshen up. We stopped by the lobby and asked the bellhop if we could leave our luggages here, he said we could but advised us to ask the front desk if they will let us check in early. We went over to them and were given our key cards right away and we were up our way up to the 15^th floor!
The room was a little small, but very nice and clean. They provide you with everything you would need: big flat screen tv, fridge, wifi, and HUGE comfortable bed. In the lobby, 3 computers with their own separators are provided as well as a Starbucks with a pot of their complimentary apple cider by the elevators.
This hotel gets 5 stars for their great price, great staffs, cleanliness, and for being located in a great walking distance to everything.
