WQXR 96.3 FM Classical Music

I will preface this review by stating that I have very little knowledge of classical music. I can identify maybe one or two pieces by Mozart, but that’s it. Therefore, I feel that I cannot really comment on the variety and quality of the classical standards offered by WQXR. I can, however, comment on whether or not the station promotes a satisfying and enjoyable listening experience, which it does.
The musical selection is beautiful, calm and tranquil, and provides a wonderful backdrop to my workday (or weekend, when it makes cleaning the house so much better). I especially enjoy the musical programming hosted by Naomi Lewin, who makes an appearance on weekday afternoons. She comes on the air at 3 p.m., so when I hear her voice, it’s a signal for me that the workday is winding down. The playlists for her show are quite lovely, and seem to be a slight cut above those of other hosts’ choices, if such a thing can even be said about classical music. I also enjoyed the recent «Showdown at High Noon» feature, during which listeners voted on one of three classical pieces that made their workdays pass quickly. This introduced me to my latest favorite piece of music, «The Lark Ascending,» which would definitely be the soundtrack to a lark’s flight if such a thing existed.
Although I prefer WNYC for all things news — WQXR will do brief news broadcasts every so often, but nothing that comes close to the detail and information of WNYC — I am a fan of this charming classical radio station. It is a small treasure in the tri-​state area. Keep it up, WQXR!

I’m a fan of WQXR, but I’m not gaga about it like I am with WNYC
I honestly liked it better when WNYC had evening music. But like Victoria said, sometimes the music is not the greatest. My father and I often joke about how the DJs must be deaf and play stupid stuff. 80 percent of the time I enjoy the music. But sometimes I miss evening music. It’s a nice station. Everyone should support public radio!

Sometimes this station is good, and sometimes I do not think they know what classical music is, For example, Saturday from 9pm — 10pm is Movies on the Radio. Of course some classical composers have written good music for film, but the trash coming out of my radio tonight is not classical music in any form. Why do they program this stuff? And while I am complaining, they apparently do not dare to have a blog on their website for listener comments. We all want classical music in NY and we all want this station to work — but as a CLASSICAL music station!

was kinda shocking to hear bachata on 96.3fm. then i realized qxr swapped places with the latino station on 105.9fm.
nytimes dumped the station and now its listener supported which is mostly good and a little annoying anticipating the membership drives. still has great programming though.
absolutely love choral fetish on sundays at noon.
