Only stopped for coffee but it was good and didn’t taste burnt. Main reason to stop here in general is a clean public bathroom of which there are very few in NYC.

Eh. I always find myself near a location of ‘Witchcraft during their happy hour(3 – 6), and I can’t ever resist half-price anything. It’s a problem. All of their coffee and tea drinks are half off during this time period, and that’s the only time when I would consider their espresso-based beverages remotely worth it. I have been to almost all of the locations of ‘Witchcraft in the city, and while I do think it’s nice that they have these smaller kiosks in touristy areas(better to support Tom Collichio than Howard Schultz, I suppose), the quality is just not there. It seems like it SHOULD be, which is why I keep coming back, but their lattes are just so disappointing. They are often out of soy milk, which is a bummer since I’m lactose-intolerant. But when they do have it, the quality of the espresso just does not make for a palatable latte. The baristas here aren’t really trained the same as at places like Joe, which make sense since they aren’t pulling shots of espresso that are anywhere close to the quality of Joe’s, but this leads to searing hot beverages that make my tongue burn. Basically this place is alright if you don’t mind wasting a million calories on all the sugar you’ll need to pour into your latte to make it taste decent. And only during the 3pm-6pm time frame so you can save 50%. The baked goods are pretty good, though-my favorite is the chocolate chip ‘wich, which has amazing vanilla frosting in between two reallyyyy good, thin, crispy chocolate chip cookies. It’s small but rich, and it’s pretty cheap at just over a buck.

‘Wichcraft is A-OK(I’m torn between 3&4 stars)… It was also the first place we ate when arriving in NYC. These shops seem to be all over the place. I know we saw them in various squares(Herald, Greeley, etc.) I had no idea it was such a prevalent chain in NYC! Anyway, my husband and I got both the vegetarian option sandwiches on the menu(tomato, mozz & fontina, and the caramelized onion and gruyère). They were both pretty good, though the tomato/mozz/fontina sandwich was by FAR our favorite. We’d order that again. The price wasn’t too bad, especially for NY. Overall, I’m a fan. I’d go back, and I’d recommend a visit if you’re in a pinch & need a quick sandwich. Otherwise, there are better options in NYC.

The oatmeal crème cookie was pretty good. I had one and enjoyed it.

this was our first stop on the great-kieffer-sister-trip-to-the-big-apple. it was unplanned + all the more joyous because of that fact. we were famished after the train ride in from princeton + walking around gawking at the overlarge buildings. sister got coffee + banana walnut bread. i got the lemonade + the grilled ham sandwich. i really wasn’t expecting much from the description on the menu board. i’d never heard of ‘wichcraft, i just wanted something to tide me over for the next few hours. till we could find something really good. the board said, «ham, avocado + butter on baguette.» what it should have said was, «heaven in sanwich form» this was seriously the tastiest little sandwich i’ve had in a long time. the baguette was grill-toasted to light, crispy perfection. the ham was lean + fragrant. the avocado was perfectly ripe. the butter was not overpowering. there was just enough freshly-ground black pepper there to bring out all the other flavors. and… um… $ 4.50? yes, please! add to all that a flower-filled little garden filled with happy people, cute little city puppies, a man doing an oil painting(of the macy’s building? really?), + enough tables, chairs + sun umbrellas to afford everyone a comfortable resting place… yes, it was a happy little haven for the kieffer sisters. the banana walnut bread was fantastic, too.

I went to ‘wichcraft with hopes of some really good hot chocolate. I was sadly disappointed. It tasted like warm chocolate milk made with whole milk. I expected it to be more chocolate-ly and warmer. I decided to get two cremewiches. one that was oatmeal cookies with caramel crème in the middle and one that was chocolate cookies with chocolate crème in the middle and both were really tasty. It would have been nice to have a hot beverage to go with them.

Are you the kind of person who would gladly pay $ 10 for a prepackaged sandwich? If so, I recommend you check out ‘Wichcraft. You’re welcome. Now can I have a dollar?

2.5 Tom — You were asked to come here because your dishes were the least favorite of the judges. i like you on top chef and I’m sure you love sandwiches but this is just ok. Some flavors are there(chicken breast with grilled mushrooms & onions, green olive tapenade & fontina on grilled country bread) and some are not(sorry excuse for chicken salad) Your portions are right but not at the price. I think my expectations were high since this operation was done by a big name chef, thus my level of disappointment. Was that harsh? oh yeah, please pack your knives and go (i’ve always wanted to say that) Oh! and your credit card machine never works

The fine quality of ‘wichcraft coffee, thanks to this kiosk is worth checking out. But I am not properly expressing my joy at ‘wichcraft opening for business in Greeley Square. So… YAY! ‘wichcraft is filling a big gap for 34th Street shoppers, dwellers, and 9 – 5’ers. Their expresso is great and Columbian cofree is rich and good. So drop by and try it!

This ‘wichcraft kiosk is probably the smallest of all of them in NYC(save its sister to the south at 32nd and Broadway), but perfect for quality coffee or pastries on the go in the otherwise horrific Herald Square, crowded with tourists and people who ride the PATH(I kid, I kid — sort of). Moreover, this ‘wichcraft is next door to the outdoor potty — but I guess that’s New York. One can only hope that the rest of Herald Square will become similarly pleasant. The kiosk is also featuring some sandwiches at lunch time, and I recommend the hot chocolate. Cash only for now, but credit cards on the way. Don’t forget to pick up a frequent shopper card if you work in the neighborhood: buy 10 coffees and get the 11th free.
