Wazin Custom Tailor

Wazin did an unbelievable job with a beautiful long dress I bought for a black tie wedding. I asked them to essentially customize the dress, and they did so easily, bringing in the shoulders so the bodice would fit better, hemming the bottom so it was the appropriate length (even though I forgot my shoes! they still hemmed it perfectly), and they even removed a strap from the back at my request (see pictures of dress from the store vs. on me). It fit like a glove and I got tons of compliments. I would recommend them to anyone.

I also stumbled upon Sam on Unilocal while desperately looking for a tailor to make a few last minute tweaks to my wedding tuxedo.
Sam was gracious and professional. When I asked him if I could have the alterations in 2 days (with my wedding the next day), HE suggested that he turn the alterations in a single day … just to give me an extra day should I want additional alterations.
Of course, I didn’t need the extra day. The work was perfect! I’ll definitely be back and can recommend him to anyone who needs a tailor… especially if you are in a pinch and need a quality tailor.

Sam & his team are amazing. I have had a few dresses altered that were multiple layers and it could not have been done any better. I am happy to pay a higher price for such great work, i would highly recommend going here if you want great service and exceptional work. He is also one of the few tailors i know that will do home visits if you need.

Sam is a great tailor! I stumbled upon his Unilocal page last fall, and I could not be happier. Since then, Sam has done a multitude of alterations for me, from simple to complex. He has also made two bespoke items for me, a blazer and a summer suit. Both look superb. At the time of this posting, he is making an additional suit for 3-​season wear.
In addition to being a great tailor, Sam is a really humble and easy-​going guy. I would also say that, although he is a bit pricier that many other tailors, you get what you pay for. Sam is reasonably priced when you consider the quality of his work. He has my highest recommendation.

Sam is the best tailor in town in terms of both tailoring technique and aesthetic. Sam’s technique has been well honed focusing on handwork finishes that is a rare skill.
Sam’s own personal style is a testament to his aesthetic. As such he understands exactly what a well dressed gent is looking for with his tailored garments.

Good but expensive.

Sam was recommended by one of friends. He did warn me that his fee is on the higher side, but he assured me his work is well worth the money. The first alteration he did was on my newly bought suit that I needed quickly for an interview. He did it flawlessly and quickly! I came back again for a complicated pants alteration. Again great workmanship! 2 major things to know about Sam: 1. His fee is really not that expensive, considering the amount of work put on your clothes & the quality of the workmanship. 2. He will not let you do unnecessary alteration. He actually told me not to alter my skirt considering the shoes I’ll be wearing it with. And he’s right. You can trust his judgment. If you need quality alterations on your investment pieces, go see Sam. You will not be disappointed.

Visited for alterations. Thought the opening in my overcoat could simply be re-​sewn, but Sam suggested that we separate the spot a little more to see how it is sewn to repair it better. Dropped it off at noon and was able to pick it up by 5:30pm. I initially wanted to take off a part of the coat but sam suggested that I keep the parts remaining for a better look and instead suggested other alteration. It’s a bit more pricey than I expected but overall a great experience!

Sam Wazin took an off-​the-​rack Todd Snyder suit and turned it into a better fitted, better looking piece than anything I’d owned before, including the made-​to-​measure suits I’d owned in the past. The prices are completely reasonable for the quality of the work. Turnaround was about 3 weeks. There may be other great tailors in the city, and I’ve been to some here, elsewhere in the United States, and abroad, but Wazin is exceptional.

I came to Wazin in a pinch. I hadn’t yet found a suit for my wedding, and was waiting for an online order to come in. When it did, it was an overall mess. Without judgement and with a friendly attitude, Sam gave me the rundown. He quickly pinned some bits here and there and basically said, ‘there you go, this is what you need’. Completely worth it, especially when he was able to get my newly fitted suit to me within just a couple of days!

I nervously brought my suit to Sam, because of shoddy, poor workmanship performed on my on my clothing in the past — ultimately, leaving me with serious trust issues. Not wanting to miss the opportunity of looking like «a hot slice of f$*%berry pie» (sorry, Dane Cook), I slept on all the amazing reviews on Unilocal and, after a few weeks, finally decided to give him a chance. And I’m glad I did.
One of my concerns was that I didn’t want to pay for alterations that exceeded the cost of the suit, which I purchased from Macy’s. The alterations came out to be about $ 150 — which was well worth it, considering the work Sam did. From beginning to end, my experience with Sam was pleasant. He listened (a rarity these days) to want I wanted, made some suggestions (although, he never pressured me to take them), and was forthright in regards to how long the alterations would take and what they would cost.
You really can’t put a price on looking good. Sam knows what he’s doing and his recommendations are spot on. Yes, he does charge more than your average tailor, but he is by no means average. The work is flawless. How can I tell? Looking closely at the stitching, all of the inseams aligned to their opposing side, in their original positions. That’s how you separate the pros from the amateurs.
If you’re a stickler for detail like I am, and you’ve had your clothes mutilated by other «tailors,» have Sam tailor one piece of clothing. I guarantee you’ll be hooked.

I’ve been to half a dozen tailors in the past year alone and Sam is not only the best, but he is literally in a league of his own. His suits make you look like you’re in a Ferrari, while the next best I’ve gone to (which cost a bundle more) look like a run down Kia in comparison.

Let me break it down:
The ask — I needed 5 suits tailored, head-​to-​toe. Everything from the pants tapered, shoretened, jacket tapered etc. I walked in, and as I began to tell him what I wanted. He told me right way, «speak no more — I know exactly what you’re looking for, lets take the measurements and you’ll be on your way»
The delivery — His workmanship was amazing. Everything fit perfectly, EXACTLY the way I wanted it to look.
The man himself, Sam Wazin: He is such a humble guy. He basically has worked at any major brand tailoring suits when he deicded that he was DAM GOOD AT IT, so he decided to open up show. Now what you have is all the major brands direct their customers to HIM AND ONLY HIM. Like everyone has said, he is an amazing tailor. I cannot recommend him enough. My fiancée and I were recommended to Sam by one of her former bosses in the fashion industry. Sam created a divine custom suit for my wedding, using top-​quality material and craftsmanship that I absolutely have loved wearing every time I’ve gone in for a fitting. This beautiful suit is the most well-​fitting and gorgeous piece of clothing I have ever owned, and I look forward to wearing it many times after my wedding (plus it comes with free alterations for life). It doesn’t hurt that Sam is a tremendously nice guy with a wonderful sense of style and humor and delivered the garment in more than a timely fashion. I would enthusiastically recommend him to anyone, without hesitation.

I was recommended to Sam by Oxxford when I needed alterations to a suit. Four years later I couldn’t recommend him more. I started with a handful of alterations, and he’s now made five bespoke suits, ~30 shirts, and altered almost everything in my wardrobe. I first went to Sam when I worked around the corner on Park Avenue, but have since moved (and work) downtown — but still use him exclusively despite the required trek.
His work is impeccable, his «eye» for what will «look right» is spot-​on, and he truly couldn’t be a nicer person. His love for, and pride in, his craft are evident.
I’ve gotten to know him over the years — and will share a bit of his background (as he’s far too humble to brag on himself). He learned his trade at his father’s side, recognizing at the age of six (watching his father) that this would be his life’s work. He then honed his trade first at his father’s side and then within the fashion houses of New York (in which he remains very highly regarded). His dream was to open his own business and have his own brand («Wazin»), and despite the inauspicious timing of branching out on his own in the wake of the recent financial crisis, he has grown his business faster and more successfully than I think he ever imagined.
For context, I’m not an «easy grader», and I almost never write reviews on Unilocal,but Sam’s well worth it. If you ever need tailoring or are considering a bespoke suit, «do not pass go, do not collect $ 200» — go straight to Sam and you won’t be disappointed. He’s one of the best kept secret’s in New York… but won’t be for long.

In NYC, I thought I’d have a better-​than-​average chance of scoring an impeccable, talented, and kind tailor who understands modern fit and proportion. It was proving to be a bit more of a chore than I expected until I crossed paths with Sam. He’s easy to talk to, gracious, knowledgeable, and will work tirelessly in a pinch to provide you with exactly what you need on time – as he has for me in the past.
This is someone who loves fine clothes and that’s where the attention to detail lies. Sam isn’t out to stroke your ego. He wants to help you look polished. It shows in everything from the hand-​sewn buttonholes to the relaxed atmosphere of the atelier.
He’s the go-​to guy for the Italian menswear label Isaia, so that should tell you something about his skills. I highly recommend Sam and his team at Wazin Custom Tailor.

Sam and his father are incredibly knowledgable and talented. They can work with any piece and alter it exactly as if the piece came from the designer made it the way you wanted it altered. They are easy to work with and personable, and for the quality of the workmanship, the fees are quite reasonable. Judging from the steady flow of sharp-​looking guys in well-​tailored suits bringing in additional suits for alteration, Sam is a man for people in the know and receives a lot of repeat business — the best testament to a quality job and services. I will definitely be back to see Sam and his father.

I’ve been going too see Sam for a couple years now, and could not be happier. He’s a great young guy who totally gets what I’m looking for in my clothes and can deliver the goods. His work is impeccable and always ready when promised, and he’s the only one I’d trust with my Isaia suits.
Very intrigued by his custom shirt & suit offerings, but haven’t yet checked this out.

Sam came recommended by the sales people at Isaia and he has never let me down. He has also worked on Zegna and Kiton for me. Great, friendly service and he really listens to what you want. He even managed a quick turnaround when I needed something for the weekend. Also, he does not upsell you… when I had a jacket that fit perfectly, he suggested it simply needed buttons on the sleeves. Great place and I will continue to come back!
