Washington Arch

Just a great monument in a great park located in the heart of Greenwich Village across from New York University.
The Empire State Building can sit right under the arch with the proper angle.
The statement on the monument stands true and should be repeated.
Let us raise a standard to which the wise and the honest can repair.
The event is in the hand of God.

George. I knew him ‘way back when.’ French and Indian War. Remember? That was a good one. When we were all still British fighting frogs deep in the heart of Pennsylvania. I drank tea then too. Everyone did. LOL. But truth is, I saw George as something more than another fella in a blue hat and overalls. He had a masculine gait. Hard stride. Know what I mean? Walking through enemy fire with the coolness of John McClane. Wonder where McClane got it from? HINT– GW. He could’ve used Georgie in Nakatomi. Time for me to come clean. It’s what Geo would’ve wanted. I’m an arch-​conservative. This is not political. So don’t get confused. I’m not talking about abortion, gay marriage or some other social issue. This isn’t a hidden way of saying I joined the John Birch society. Roger that? I’m an arch-​conservative. That ain’t about the republican party. It’s about arches. Beautiful arches. Ones like the Romans. Obviously those boys got me into the arch racket. Whenever a straight line will do, an arch will do a little bit better. Arches connect us to the past. They endure for all time. Where would we be without them? Curves are nice on a lady. YES. But much, much nicer if I may let my architectural biases trump my erotic impulses for once — is the smooth arch of a monument. And none better than one to the father of the country, George Washington.

Der Washington Arch steht im Washington Square Park direkt am Beginn der berühmten Fith Avenue. Im Jahr 1892 errichtet aus weißem Marmor. Die NY Universität ist in unmittelbarer Nähe, so dass im Park kleine Veranstaltungen stattfinden.
Der Arch selbst ist bekannt aus vielen Film und eine gern verwendete Kulisse. Am bekanntesten ist wohl die Szene aus «When Harry met Sally», als die beiden nach 18 h Autofahrt dort ankommen und Sally Harry vor dem Washington Arch aussteigen lässt. Dort sagen sich dann beide lebwohl, da sie ja nie freunde werden können, da männer und frauen keine Freunde sein können.
