W Hotel

My girlfriend and I stayed at the W hotel on 31 December 2015 in order to experience New Years Eve in Time Square. We expected much much much better for the price, even for it being a New Years Eve price it was high, but price aside the hotel staff was the most rude I have ever experienced out of any hotel but specially surprising for being a «high end» hotel. The only helpful person was the concierge and even then the wait to speak to the only 1 person on staff took over 30 minutes, you would think it being New Years Eve they would have at least 2 on staff.
The room was horrible, dirty, old, and we instantly an instant regret to book. But since we were stuck with the room we tried to make the best of it.
The bed was old, and when I say old, I mean at least 10 years old, with cracks on the leather, and a mattress which made noises every time we moved.
The bathroom was made of see through glass, so privacy while using the bathroom was none existent and left for an uncomfortable situation between my girlfriend and I when we had to use the bathroom.
I would not recommend this place, and I will never stay at this location again, the W Hotel brand is a questionable location at this time, at least for me and my girlfriend.

worst accommodations with okay service. beds are the hardest I’ve ever experienced. bathroom wallpaper prevents proper cleaning and there was puke and strange splatters all over the effin walls. smallest room w/​cheap fashionings for such a high price tag.

So yesterday I tried to post my two point review and something glitched and it’s not here today which is fine BC I was going in to edit. So here’s a new one.
The goods — awesome location, sleek modern and newly refurbished, and cool soaps. I also kinda like the sink in the bathroom now that I figured out how to turn it on.
The bads — tiny rooms (but what do you expect in NY?), the room décor was clashing and not great to my eye, our upgraded view was of the building next door (had expected to be looking out at Times Square), and there was no bellman or anyone to point the way to out lift which took way too long to find. Also, the room we have had a frosted wall separating the bathroom and bedroom. A wall that anyone in the room can see through. So this isn’t a place to stay with only a friend if you know what I mean. Not sure if all rooms are like this.
Anyway, I complained when they sent the hospitality email and they refunded some points. I also complained about their too-​dark and somewhat offensive bar /​lobby with this blinding led display behind their bar. It was there the first night (when we arrived), but gone and lights were on the second night. I know they’re under construction and were finishing up — hope that was a temporary thing that is gone now. The lobby looks much better.
All in all — way overpriced and seems to be trying really hard. I talked to a few other patrons and overheard others. The ones I talked to were my late 30’s — 50’s range. We liked the music in the bar, but all were in agreement that the hotel was pretentious and trying too hard. Then I overheard more than one 20something in the lift gushing about how cool the place is. Heh. Guess age and experience stands for something. Wouldn’t stay here again and wouldn’t suggest it (unless you’re an inexperienced 20something… Or really just like this sort of thing).

Okay for a W. Not the best but does the job. Okay rooms and lovely staff. I’ll definitely be back!
I love to see the smiles from People that stay there. It reassures me they are having a nice time too! I’d love a good discount every once in a while though!

I stayed here for one night (July 11 – 12, 2015). It is a beautiful hotel with a great lounge/​bar and lobby area. The rooms are nice and cozy with updated fixtures. Everything is superbly clean and well maintained. As with any NY hotel, the room was very small, but as to be expected by the name of the room being a «cozy queen.» No complaints here as I got a great rate on a Friday night.
Bathroom is very small and impossible to move in. Only one person can fit at a time. But it was fully stocked with all the essentials, plus face scrub which was a nice touch.
Downside: We had a beautiful view… of the roof equipment and cement with lots of used gum and trash! haha But it wasn’t too big of a problem as we just kept the blinds drawn-​Most likely the result of me paying a discounted rate.
Location: Less than a 5-​minute walk from Grand Central! 1 block away from a little store that had snacks, and all traveling essentials (laundry detergent, medicines, shampoo/​conditioner, etc.) Two blocks away from a great nail salon.
Overall, great experience. Easy check-​in process and beautiful public spaces of the hotel. I would stay here again.

Came here for coffee on a Saturday to kill time. They didn’t know what a ‘flat white’ was and the cappuccino I had to order was weak and unsatisfying. Plus they took a long time to bring it. I ordered an espresso to beef it up and that confused the hell out of them. Bacon side (I know, but it’s a carb free snack!) was very good; perfectly crispy. Sadly though this particular W did not make the grade.

I got bed bug bites at this hotel. First time in my life I’ve ever been bitten by bed bugs. It still haunts me.

The hotel is absolutely stunning, up to date, and has amazing views. The only reason why I am giving it 3 stars is because the room was SO tiny for the price that was paid. Yes, the weekend played a factor since all hotels are a bit pricier on weekends, but still I thought it was way too much. I thought I’d be walking into a big swanky king sized hotel room, but boy was I wrong. It was like the size of my bedroom for almost the price of my monthly rent lmao. The stay was okay, nothing fabulous about it. I rarely even spent enough time in the hotel for it to be considered a full night stay since I didn’t get back to my room until 5am. However I found the bathrooms to be quite intriguing with the see through walls. The hotel staff was also very courteous and professional, great customer service. W– Just drop the damn prices already, you guys are making a fortune anyways.

Overpriced, cheaply built, and rude/​nonexistent customer service (they are too busy on social media to do their job). Our room had stains on the pillow too… Gross.
We stayed at the W in Chicago (excellent!!) and expected this to be worth every penny as well.
So bad, we are actually switching hotels in the middle of our NY stay! The only benefit to this hotel is that it is at the edge of Times Square… Which made for a convenient bathroom… That’s about it.

Went the studio lounge, Alice wonderland theme for New Year’s Eve, good price on gold star ($ 16). However, it looked a lot different than imagined — a bit ghetto. Drinks were $ 15, weak and small! And the DJ was horrible !!! No actual transition into the next song, just a straight cut off ! I would not recommend you here.

For the price of these rooms, somehow, against all odds, wifi is not free. BUT LUCKY YOU! it’s free for one hour in the lobby.

Enjoyed the prime Times Square location. The rooms were decorated modernly with comfy beds.
The concierge was spot on with his restaurant recommendation. Dinner at Johns pizza of Times Square, delish!!!
The lobby/​bar was also upbeat and fun, packed with beautiful people.
Great location, excellent staff/​service, great Bliss bath products!

Stayed here a few times. Room’s are ok. They are clean and pretty updated. Hallway is ugly. Staff is good, no complaints. Biggest draw back? Time Square. I hate Time Square. If you are a tourist you may love it, but Time Square is just the worst area in Manhattan to me.

The hotel is in a great location in Union Square! Our experience with the hotel staff was so great! Check-​in went very smoothly and as we were heading to the elevators, we were greeted by one of the managers, Marc, who was aware it was my birthday and wished me a happy birthday! How kind of him!
We got a room on the 11^th floor with really great sunlight coming in from 3 huge windows. My bf later told me they were called picture windows and we had them facing East and South so we got great light all day! We had a nice view of union square and the park. The room was very modern with a day bed/​couch, flat screen with tons of new movies still out in theaters that you could purchase, great BLISS amenities including face wash and good body lotion. The accents around the room and small pillows seemed edgy and cool and the room was very clean.
Since we got there earlier in the day, we ended up going out to hang out and when we returned to change before dinner, I was greeted with a plate of treats including a bottle of natural spring water, cupcakes and chocolate covered strawberries, with the words «Happy Birthday» written on it with a personalized card from yet another manager, Bill. What a nice surprise! :)
The staff was super friendly and helpful throughout our short stay. From the front desk to the bar, the managers and staff walking around, everyone was so professional and willing to assist in any way. Housekeeping was quick when extra towels were requested and we also (actually just I) got to get some additional BLISS products! I was sitting in the Olive bar lounge area waiting for my boyfriend at the bar and a staff member walked by and asked to make sure I was okay. It was very reassuring to find that the staff was so caring and welcoming!
Even on our way out, the manager we first met, Marc, caught us, wished me a happy birthday again and wished us a safe trip home! He remembered! I would definitely come back again and recommend this hotel!!! Thanks again to Marc and the rest of the W hotel staff for making my birthday celebration a memorable one! =)

I’m a single 25 year old gay man. As such, I love this hotel. It’s fun, upbeat, and stylish in a fantastic location. And considering its NYC, the rooms are pretty nice too.
I don’t think families would feel comfortable here – but there are plenty of other nearby options to keep you happy. I also don’t think it’d be a good choice if you’re staying with a group you don’t know too well – the bathroom layout is… revealing.
I’d stay away from any Times Square hotels if you’re traveling for business, too. Getting around that area is a total nightmare.
But if you’re looking for a trendy place for a few days, give it a go. I won’t pay a premium to stay here, but I prefer it if it’s at a fair price.

Nice and clean. It’s very trendy and a good place to go if you’re young, looking to party, and want a central location at Times Square. The bed, sheets, pillows were all nice. Another pro was the heating as our stay in ny got colder and colder.
Cons: there are no drawers in the room. No storage for your clothes! It is small, but that’s ny. The lobby is on the 7^th floor and it’s on the same floor as their bar. Every time you pass by the lobby it seems to be a party. Lots of people blocking your way to the elevators and the noise level is high from all the people standing around with drinks.
The housekeeping seemed kind of spotty. In the beginning of our stay they only made our bed, but didn’t even take out the trash and it didn’t seem very well cleaned.

First time staying in a hotel in Mid-town.Times Square nonetheless and I really don’t recommend it if you cannot stand tourists or waiting more than 15 mins to flag a cab, or did i mention hate people? yeah. OR want to spend $$$$ (don’t even want to know what the bachelorette party paid for it since I only chipped in for my one night stay.)
Yes, its centrally located, you have to go up to the 7^th floor where the bar is and then take a different set of elevators to the rooms, which holy crap if you have ear problems, make sure you get a room on a lower floor! The elevator shoots from floor 7 to floor 49 in about five seconds and you feel like you’re blasting into space. OUCH.
The suite we were in was pretty dope, no lie. Had two bathrooms, one half which helped a lot with us ladies having to do make up and whatever. There was enough room for the six of us to crash and decorate the room with thongs and dickalicious party favors. Hey, its a bachelorette weekend! It was pretty lame though at 7:30 when someone complained that our music was too loud. Exsqueeze us, we are busy with a stripper and its only 30 mins of musical fantasia and nudity, AND the sister of the bride told the staff when she booked– it was for a bach party! Eff off!
The bar patrons at 11pm were a weird as all hell mixture, of every kind of homo sapian on this planet– FOBs, plastic surgery ULTRA bimbos, older women trying to be hot but missing the mark, true older hotties, roid heads, tourist-​y fanny packers (keep it moving!), glitzed up snobby kids and their parents coming from a party on the upper floors and yadda yadda. You get the picture.
Leaving on Sunday was interesting. Apparently some D list celeb (if that) was supposedly at the hotel that day so we were not allowed to use the main entrance to leave since it was packed w fans. Instead we were shuffled through a service, side door and they woudnt even tell us who it was! Come on now! Making us go through the meat entrance and we can’ t even know??? Whatevzzzz… Turns out it was some Bollywood video blogger Chip Chocolate? Wtf? Idk man.
Overall it was a nice hotel and nothing wrong but nothing OMG for the price. I would most definitely opt for a place downtown if I was to ever plan a party only bc it would save everyone a little or maybe we could get something even better for such an expensive rate. Nice if you have mad dough, but a little too ritzy for my taste.

The W New York is clean, modern, and well regulated.
You have to hold onto your key card because its the golden ticket to get you past the security guard who stands by and up to your floor.
There are always tourists roaming around here as well as businessmen and women getting on the happy hour.
The rooms are NYC sized (no space in this place) but well designed to make you feel less cramped. The beds are awesome. They must be made of clouds.
Free wireless is a great amenity. Bliss toiletries are very appreciated BUT I don’t appreciate smelling like Mr. Clean or a lemonade.
No water pressure in the shower. My Brooklyn pipes from 1890 work better!
The frosted glass door look is sort of odd but it works in this situation.

Cons:
No outlet by the full length mirror, really inconvenient for someone who wants to style their hair outside of the bathroom.
Bathroom doors are see-​thru. I don’t know who thought this would be a good idea…

I want to stay here every time I come to NYC. The beds are heavenly. The only odd thing was that we had to request someone to come up to paper the bathroom because the walls are just frosted windows, so there is no privacy.
The view from the room is gorgeous, and the location is perfect. It could not be more convenient. The staff were so helpful. I would missed out on a lot without the concierge. They were so informative and amiable.
The lounge area and restaurants in the hotel are amazing too. It is a really fun and lively place to be. The energy is great.
