US Post Office

Came with two packages with prepaid labels. Dropped the first one in the slot and realized the second (unattached) label fell in with it. I could see it sitting on top of the pile. I told the lady working, she said she didn’t have time for this and turned around to help someone else.

They consider business hours to be 10:49 on a Thursday. Do I need to say much more?
Oh yeah I do. What an inept shitbucket of the worst effluence of ‘people’ flowing out of the cancerous tumor that is the us postal service. I cannot get anything delivered on time. I have to schedule a redelivery on almost every package. Sometimes things just never come.
When did the post office become a jobs program? When did going to the post office become several layers of hell deeper than the DMV? The sooner the entire organization shrivels up and dies the better.

I know I’m tilting at windmills here, but this, like all post offices, is a garbage establishment. Every time I get pissed at a republican candidate for trying to abolish public sector unions, I visit the post office and have my world-​view re-​aligned.

I’m writing this review because a 1 ½ star average seems too good for this place. The people that work here hate their jobs a great deal. I’m pretty sure that the only way the staff here gain any enjoyment in life is by sucking the joy out of yours. If these incompetent sacks of failed humanity had any respect for themselves or their jobs then I might still have some for the USPS. I take solace in the fact that the pure misery and self loathing displayed by the staff is a strong indicator of a potentially high suicide rate among them. The people that work here will, hopefully, be recycled before too long.

The USPS seems to strive for failure; a culture of incompetence, ineptitude, and aggressive, unapologetic, bare faced stupidity. A super majority of postal employees I’ve dealt with would likely score two or even three standard deviations below average on an IQ test. However, it’s not the organization-​wide celebration of incompetence that bothers me most. Instead, it’s the palpable sense that every single postal employee feels as if showing up to work is enough — that they are owed the job they have and doing anything more than the absolute bare minimum is too much. However, in true sado-​masochistic form, I keep coming back for more.
Take for example my experience today with the Canal Street station. I learned long ago to expect nothing from anyone who operates out of that location, yet with a glimmer of Christmas-​season hope, I expected that the package I ordered two weeks ago, scheduled to be delivered on Friday, December 18^th, would show up as promised. Of course, it did not. The last tracking information posted on the USPS website was updated on the 18^th, with no further updates since. Twice I called the station, and to my surprise, both times someone actually picked up the phone (typically, it just rings and rings). Yesterday (December 23^rd), I was informed that the package was still on the truck and I should contact the office again today (December 24^th) to speak to the carrier. I did just that, and dealt with a bottom feeder whose indifference quickly turned to anger as I pressed on about the location of my package. I wasn’t expecting much in the way of help, but I did expect something or someone better than the smug, mendacious wench that I talked to. After pleading my case one final time — the package is a Christmas present for someone — I was told by the cancerous tumor «I don’t care», and she hung up. I suppose that insulting her isn’t worth my time — speaking to her is all the confirmation I need to know that she hasn’t the the intellectual wherewithal to process anything beyond 10^th rate daytime talk-​gossip rubbish and the numbers on her undoubtedly undeserved paycheck. I can only hope that she hasn’t, nor will she ever, reproduce and pass on her genetic code. The world doesn’t need any more Canal Street postal employees polluting it.
This has been my general experience with the USPS over the years and across geographic boundaries. The sooner this miserable, unholy abortion of an organization goes under, the better. Every one of it’s worthless, barely employable «workers» can make their way to the unemployment lines and do the only thing they’re likely good at — demanding money from the public that they don’t deserve. I’m sure they feel they’re owed that too — an extension of the narcissism present in nearly every criminally stupid postal worker I’ve ever encountered.

So it’s a Christmas Miracle and ALL THANKS to Patricia who helped me at window 20 today., She understood my concerns of a package sitting on a truck since Saturday at 5am with no status update and went out to the trucks to hunt down the package. I apologized profusely to everyone in line behind me but I was not in the mood to let the possibility of getting this package go. Low and behold, she found it after little time and what she said was «little effort as it was right on the truck.» Everyone else at this facility needs to learn a thing or 2 from Patricia. She even greeted me with a hello and closed our conversation with «Happy Holiday’s» I am giving a low score for the overall experience still but I want whoever reads this to know that Patricia gets 5 STARS!

One would think that a place that delivers mail would understand how to find an address; particularly when it comes to the delivery going to a specific area where the office is located. But this office manages to defy all odds!
I placed an order, and had the package shipped to my office. My work address was clearly spelled out. The street address, company name, floor number, etc. All was well until it got to this USPS office, who evidently got confused for some strange reason, and then sent it right back within an hour of receipt.
I called the woman at the location, who, after repeating the same thing over and over again, even though it made no sense, told me that she had no idea why the address was scanned as undeliverable. But it just was, and she had no information other than it was just not at the post office any more.
Oddly enough, I have had things delivered to this address plenty of times via USPS, I have never had any issues. But I guess stupidity will always find a way. No wonder USPS is struggling.

This is by far the worst post office I have been to in ten different states. Unfortunately this inept establishment has lost nearly every package that they failed to deliver in the first place. Perhaps they do not know all their letters or numbers and mail is just plain confusing for them. Having said that someone should either shut this place down or educated the prison work release employees on counting or the alphabet. My suggestion is do everything online, start a claim, plead (beg) for re-​delivery and then contact better business bureau, rate them online and hope to god someone can hold these degenerates accountable.

Terrible customer service. My packages 80% of the time never arrive on time. Iv’e called to track my package and they honestly say they have no idea where it is «it might still be on the truck»? Really? I wish places I order from online did not use their service.

This is the first time I’ve ever even written a Unilocal review for anything, but my boiling hatred for this post office can no longer be contained. Long story short, they lost two packages last week, both are marked as delivered, and no one can tell me what happened to them. I’ve gotten everything from «I don’t know what to tell you» to «just wait a little longer, they usually turn up» to «maybe he delivered to the wrong floor» to «call the 1 – 800 number». Are you KIDDING me?! They’re either liars, thieves, or both. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I called ups yesterday about 8 times asking where my package was. Each time I called the wait time was 40mins long! Each time the assistance person either said I can’t find the location or its at canal. I called this location 4 times
1^st time: a lady pick up (30min wait) I asked «is my package located at this location? «I explained to them that the delivery man said they left a notice but I never received one so I’m curious. She replied» let me check .“20 mins later said said no it’s not here sorry bye.
I called ups again a guy picked up and told me to call back canal at again
2^nd time: they asked for checking # left me on hold for 50 mins then hung up.
I called back the third time and this new lady said «the office is closed bye.”(rudely)
I called ups again and they filed an compliant at this location. I asked them to leave the package at the post office and I’ll go pick it up the following day. Which they did.
Before I went to pick up the package I called to double check a guy picked up. He sounded like he was in a hurry so he rushed the conversation. He didn’t even let me ask a question, all he said was check online bye.
I got fed up with the care over the phone so I walked over to the postal office.
When I went up to the stand #20 the lady searched everywhere. She told me I can either stand and wait or she’ll give me a call. I told her I’ll stand and wait and can you please call your supervisor, I would like to talk to him/​her. After 5 mins she started talking to her coworker about me. Since I spoke English to her I guess that she thought that I didn’t know Chinese so she started talking about me. «This girl wouldn’t leave .she want her thing but I can’t find it. shes so annoying blahblahblah. I got so fed up that I screamed «this wouldn’t have happen if you guys were more organized and if you have left an notice «if you’re going to talk about someone at least wait for them to leave.
This place is the worst. Worst customer service ever ! Everyone I talked to at this location gave the biggest attitude ever!

0 Star rating. I dread knowing that a package or important letter will have to arrive via USPS because this is my designated location for my building at MacDougal and Bleecker. At least 3 times, they have alleged an «attempted» delivery that was never attempted and alleged that an attempted delivery notice was left, that was never left. The ONLY reason I know exactly what happened with these 3 packages is because Amazon, god bless them, tracked them down and told me what happened. The people in my building believe our mail carrier is stealing our mail, and I don’t disagree. This should be a federal crime. There have been at least an additional 5 times when packages go missing, can’t be found when I show up in person to track them down, and then magically get delivered 3 MONTHS LATER! I can only imagine what I haven’t received and don’t even know about. It has now become my personal mission to really do something about this. I would like to start a class action lawsuit if possible and will post again if this recourse seems possible, hopefully with attorney contact info for everyone else who has experienced the hell on earth that is the Canal Street post office and its illegal mail handling practices. As I write this, I have currently been on hold with this post office trying to locate my latest package (shoes) that I already know will not be found — I’ve been on hold now for 2hours and 10 minutes.

Call the following number every time and file an official complaint and request a formal written resolution letter: (tell the automated system «complaint» and they WILL transfer you to an agent promptly) — you may also report verbal abuse to this number. 1−800−275−8777.
Then document your case of theft/​fraud/​fake attempted delivery, verbal or physical assault to this number for the USPS Internal Affairs Inspector’s Office: (877) 876‑2455. File an official case with them.
They may then transfer you to Office of the Inspector General, which you can call directly at (866) 644‑5696. They’re not as helpful but keep following up with the Internal Affairs Inspector’s Office and then ask for «Consumer Affairs». I will post that phone number once I can get it.

I have no choice but to use this post office as anytime a package sent to me parcel post, no attempt is made to deliver said package. «No secure location» says the note which is BS. The carriers don’t bring it on the route and thusly, I am forced to make an excursion to this USPS location.
The methods and «organization» at this location are akin to a developing nation. 8 times out of 10, there is a search mission for my package that invariably turns into 10 – 15 minute drama (at the very least). I don’t find the workers themselves a problem though. It’s clearly an archaic system put in place in the 1960s.
Near my workplace is the 38^th St postoffice and the difference is staggering. It’s as easy as can be. How two locations can be so incredibly different, I have no idea.
When it’s my choice for a shipper, it’s FedEx all the way. They actually use COMPUTERS! How novel. Anyone can pinpoint the whereabouts of a package. And even at the cheapest level of shipping, the item will be brought to my home. Is that too much to ask? Seriously.

I didn’t understand how this particular location received such a low overall rating, but now I understand. The service here is absolutely horrendous.
I would stay away from here if at possible!

Visit Canal St Post Office to experience for yourself what customer service was like in Soviet Russia!
— Instead of ‘hello’, you’ll be greeted with bewildering orders barked at you by customer service staff whose previous work experience must have been as Sergeant Majors or dominatrices.
— Join an hour-​long line of people waiting to collect parcels. It typically takes 5 – 10 minutes per person, due to the significant challenges involved in … finding a box.
— Learn the many obscure rules regarding postal delivery. They’re not written down anywhere, but if you don’t know them, you’ll be treated like a subversive criminal.
Of course, if you don’t like it, you can always take your business elsewhere. Oh wait, no you can’t.

Congratulations, USPS you are my first 1 star review. My dad sent me a certified letter which arrived at my apartment. The problem was, I didn’t answer the door, so I got a slip asking for me to stop by the office downtown or ask for re-​delivery. And there started the saga…
I originally asked for the package to be re-​delivered to my address. After not hearing anything for a couple of days, I brought the slip down to the USPS on Canal Street. After waiting 10 minutes on line, the lady informed me the letter was nowhere to be found, but I could try calling my post man. She gave me a number and already pretty frustrated I wasted a 20 minute walk, I left.
I called the post man the next day and he told me to leave the slip in the box and he would get me the letter the next day. Two days go by and still no letter, I decide to call the post office again. After a transfer, I spoke with a woman in customer service who told me the whole office was trying to find my letter (right.). She put me on hold for about 1 hour to look for it and never did come back to the phone. I called back a few hours later and a very terse and unhelpful woman told me if the lady didn’t call me back then clearly she didn’t have the letter. In her exact words, «If it’s lost, it’s lost.»…
I was about ready to give up, when by some miracle the letter was sitting in my mail box, 9 days after it originally was supposed to arrive. How did it get there? Elves, dwarves, or divine intervention? I don’t care, but I will seriously think twice about using USPS for my letters or dealing with this particular post office again.

Lying sacks of sh! t told me I couldn’t get tracking on an international package so now I’m assed out on an item and my money. Telling me if I want tracking I have to pay $ 30 for a 7oz package. I called the 1800 number and I was told that I could’ve gotten registered mail for only a couple of dollars more than what I paid. How can the post office and its workers be so wrong on every level at every.single.location? Is there no formal training? Why do one person know more than another? I swear they let anybody work at the post office. POS!

These guys have awards in their lobby, and honestly, they deserve it. Easily the best post office I’ve had to use with any regularity. Even during busy hours, they do their best to keep it moving — compared to other post offices I’ve had to use around NY, they do the most, manning as many windows as possible and making every transaction as quick as possible (without rushing or being rude). Even when they look stressed out or burnt out, it’s never effected their job performance or their politeness. And the facilities are well maintained — the self-​serve machine always works well, the kiosks for package drop offs are never full or jammed. When I could, this was usually the post office I would try to go to the most.
