Formerly Universal News now dba Magazine and Café. I came here to attain one bottle of orange juice at $ 2.25 and quickly exited being late to my destination. A large magazine retailer that carries all the major published magazine, and they carry foreign magazines. Workers appear shady.

I pass by this Universal News nearly every morning. Good spot to grab the latest copy of People magazine on Wednesdays. They’ve got a wide-variety of other magazines too. Will definitely poke in here before my next vacation to grab some mags for my flight.

Only in NYC is there a store like this! I stopped in today to buy a newspaper. I know in Long Island where I could buy an Italian newspaper.(Glen Cove) But if I came to Universal News at their 23rd st location to look for a newspaper from another country, I know they also sell newspapers in German as well as African! Excellent selection of computer magazines, gossip rags and porn if you lean towards looking at naked peoples. I’m sure they have a mag called«Chunky Asses» for purchase if you looking for targeted body areas. Great place to get a cuppa coffee, buy a car or computer magazine and just relax for about one hour. Also, Their coffee is priced at .65 cents!

4.5 stars… This is the kind of store you really have to go to NYC for. It’s the kind of store that has virtually every magazine imaginable from not only this country but imports from around the world as well. Universal is not the only store in city like this but it’s probably the biggest, best, and cleanest. They also have 10 or so locations which I’ve found are very consistent. In addition to magazines they are also a small internet café with a few computers and a food/drink counter. Between the 3 you could spend the entire day here. Universal is also dangerous because you can easily spend way too much on magazines; especially because a lot of the special magazines and imports can reach $ 20 and up per issue. I’m not sure what their official policy is here but I’ve sat down at one of their tables and gone through a few magazines without someone telling me to buy it first which is nice not to have that pressure. In addition, this place is right by Madison Sq Park so if you haven’t spent your entire day here and you want a little fresh air to read your magazine or you want some lunch at Shake Shack, it’s right next door.
