Union Square

This place is one of a kind! Location in the mecca of shopping stores like Forever 21, Strawberries, and MAC. This establishment is literally across the street from my favorite Whole Foods Market. This place is not hard to find.
They are always having events in Union square especially in the summer. Last weekend, they had Farmers from all over the city and state selling their fresh produce. Which was pretty cool. At times, their are also protests and mini contests by the stairs of the square.
I must warn you!!! This is not a place to relax. This is a highly pedestrian traffic area. So if your bringing book make sure you have earphones as well. You also have solicitors trying to get that dollar out of your pocket.
Also, you are not allowed to smoke in these premises. Please be conscious and not smoke here. It is not cool!

My favorite place to go in the morning. In fact probably one of the few things that make waking up really worth it.
The park is always hustling and bustling with lots of energy and movement. There’s always something going on! My favourite thing that goes on is the Union Square market on Saturday mornings, when I get to go and see all the happy vendors, listen to how they make their fine crafted wines, beers and meat and the best part — having a free tasting of the stuff. Yum. I’ve had lamb sausage, duck confit, you name it, they have it.
Even better is that they always have an abundance of chairs, tables and places to sit. It’s a great place for friends to hang out. And on hot new York days, there’s always the beautiful huge trees to shade you from the sun.
Even hanging out alone is easy! I see people in the park reading a book by themselves all the time. It’s a great place to just sit and enjoy.

Union square park is quite small as opposed to the union square area. The park goes across 14^th St from park ave to university Pl and up to 17^th street. They have street vendors, pan handlers, information stations located all around. I’ve seen the park host boot camps on the 17^th Street side. They also have a small farmers market during the daytime hours (not sure which days). They have street performers; musicians, dancers, extreme sportist. You can usually find a couple groups that offer spiritual guidance or groups offering you alternative electric solutions and other ways to save the world. If you want to escape most of this, take a walk into the center of the park. It’s covered by trees. They have benches and seats laid all around the parks interior.
And many ways to reach there: 4,5,6 trains, Q, N, R trains, the L train and the M14 bus. There are a multitude of stores and restaurants within feet of this park for any and everyone to enjoy.

It’s a great bookstore with food and seating areas plus good selection of CDs. Not many bookstores also carry CS. It is a wonderful, casual book place that is great to meet friends or colleagues or Wifi. (So the kids section isn’t Books of Wonder — this is a place for all classics for kids and adults as well as computer books that aid learning in a class or for work).
Union Square has great shopping like ABC, Sephora and of course Paragon. This is easy to get to for NYU students or residents in the area as well as tourists.

Park, green market with samples, subways to get you anywhere, plenty of trendy restaurants and bars (and coffee shops), and often street performers. This area is lovely to explore. Grab a fresh fruit soft-​serve from Chloe and enjoy the atmosphere.

Annual Taiwanese festival in the north part of the union square park. The festival was packed full of people, and many different food and culture vendors.
They had vegan black pudding, which was made with beetroot;, popcorn chicken, oyster pancake, and bubble tea etc…
Overall, all the food we had were nice, atmosphere was amazing, and union square was the ideal location for the event.

The Oyster pancake stall has one of the longest queue in the place, we waited a long time to get to the front but we throw the pancake away as it tasted horrendous…

Great spot in the city to enjoy a daytime lunch. It does get pretty crowded but there are ample benches and bistro table sets. It’s nice that there are restrooms as well as a lot of trash bins and recycling. Overall, wonderful location to dine and people watch!

A lively square with good people watching, some great architecture and statues, farmer’s market and a nice park area for sitting. Worth stopping by.

Union Square is a few blocks downtown Manhatten that has everything. Shopping and restaurants everywhere. You can probably eat every meal for weeks at a different place each meal.
There’s a big park here too. Plenty of subways and buses closeby.

Five enthusiastic stars for this lively, happening park. Not to dis any other parks, but Union has its own unique history, culture and atmosphere. I love it because of all these things and more.
This is not a park where you come to meditate, but it is the park where you can meet up with a friend, sit on a bench and have a coffee and even bring your baby (I’m referring, of course, to dogs. There is a dog park here, but that is a separate review).
Union Square has so much life — like the Greenmarket (another, separate review), charity functions like dog rescue fund raisers, protests/​demonstrations and just the daily passersby that make this park wonderful. This park is special because of all these things.
You can bring a blanket to sit on the grass or sit on a bench. Great spot to meet friends/​make friends. Conveniently located where east meets west. I’ve loved this park for years and will never stop.

Whenever I enter the East or West Village, I usually start at Union Square.
Union Square has an interesting history. The park got its name, because it was at the union of several streets. During the Civil War, the name took on a different meaning. And, during the labor movement, union activists often held rallies here. Activists still hold rallies at Union Square, for various issues.
While not as Bohemian as Washington Square Park, Union Square is still a great place to people watch. Usually, I have seen Hare Krishnas chanting and dancing in the southwest corner of the park. You can see people playing chess. You will also see the occasional performer.
On the weekends (and certain weekdays, I’m not sure of the schedule), there is a farmers’ market, with a wide variety of produce, meat, fish, and baked goods. Some stands will sell tea or cider. During winter, I love getting a hot spiced cider.
Speaking of winter, there is also a winter village during December, selling various gifts and foods.
All-​in-​all, Union Square Park is a wonderful place to visit, whether in the day or evening.

The hub of Union Square. If you’re taking the train, you don’t even need to walk all the way here from whatever station you intended on. You can just emerge from the subway station that is right by the park. Lots of people of different cultural backgrounds gather here. Street performers, psychics, chess challengers, monks, sk8ters, & fake pigeons dot the landscape. Oh and let’s not forget us, the pedestrians.
During one of your adventures here, you might notice a vast array of tents in one area of the park. What’s going on you ask? It’s a Farmers Market where vendors peddle their wares and fresh produce at competitive prices. Transactions that once could only be conducted with primitive methods of payment in the past now include more modern methods – evident in the sophisticated tablets with card readers in each vendor’s tent. To top it all off, nothing better than taking a brief respite by the benches, or steps, and staring back at the statues that overlook the Union Square. Park.

This place is always crowded whether protest, soap box speeches, performances, skate boarders you name it… If you’re young and need somewhere free to chill at all hours without being bothered then this is for you.
Plus they have a good Farmers Market held there usually on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and sometimes Saturday.

It’s located in a central area. With restaurants & starbucks & other café around. The Union Square stop is located right there, obviously.
There are lots of people playing chess.
Clean & safe. A landmark to meet. I thought it was fairly ordinary.

It’s a pleasant park. It has its moments of loud obnoxious youngsters during certain times of the year but otherwise a great place to relax.
The park has the privilege of having its own underground subway station which houses the NQR, L, and 456. Otherwise you can bike on over with citi bike or park your car at a nearby car park.
Above ground they have a beautiful park that blooms bright during the spring and summer. There are fountains and benches to relax on. There is even a doggie playground in the park for that little or big one of yours.
Best of all is the weekly farmers market or annual winter festival markets. These markets aren’t small compared to most other parks. In fact they take up a little more then half the space. The markets bring in a variety of foods, drinks and flowers from local farms. I normally pick up a lamb shank or duck breast here for special occasions.
Overall the Union Square park is a marvelous place to attend to avoid or enjoy the hustle and bustle of NYC.

This is one of my favorite parks in NYC. The park itself is fairly large, has a children play area, dog walking area, decent amount of seating and accessible grassy areas if you just want to spread out and just relax in the middle of a busy city.
Weekly they have a farmers market setup at the park, I think that’s on Tuesdays but it feels like it’s there more often since I visit the park daily. Various street vendors setup just outside the perimeter of the park and you can even take up a game of chess with the local pro chess players that setup at the park steps.
Winter time you’ll find tons of vendor booths that sell trinkets and all kinds of holiday goodies. During the holiday season with the presence of the vendor booths the park can feel very cluttered so winter is my least favorite time to visit this park. But if you’re a shopper you’ll love the farmers market and the winter vendor booths. Outside the park there are tons of shops.
One of my favorite parks that seems to have entertainment year round even if it’s just watching some of the chess players are a street performer.

union square serves many o’ purposes for all:
meeting spot for friends, family, stalkers and their subjects, etc.
subway lines crossing 4,5,6, N, R, etc. where your dreams of being on time end.
abundance of benches to park it on warm or cool days or evenings.
farmer’s market plows for cash several days a week.
tchotchke up your loved one’s (or hated ones) apts via the annual holiday market.
chess players making moves.
artists and performers take it to the street for instagram and snapchat fame.
dogs «run» free in the «dog walk»
foliage, trees, grass, etc. to take you back to nature against a steel/​concrete backdrop.
a few vendors hawking newspapers, food etc.
statues that pigeons poop on.
obese squirrels that folks continue to feed.
a haven for homeless BO, crazy person antics, and the occasional rat pack.
the de facto X Games park for a lot of terrible skateboarders.
Union Square is triangulated by three popular (highly trafficked) Chipotles. start-​up workers and biz types INHALEa ton of bean-​overloaded eats during lunch and then come to Union Sq to «crop dust» (translation: FART around) fellow New Yorkers. Chipotle-​ites are a cruel bunch as they pass bad gas in the park before returning to their cubicles. the pungent farts from 11 am — 2 pm might qualify as a new greenhouse emission and a non-​lethal gas attack. these farties (fart parties) only end bc of hour long lunch time limits. ARGH.
the park is cool but has its cons like it its dual role as a FART ZONE. beware – you were warned. lol. i’m docking a star for SBD (silent but/​t deadly). otherwise the park does provide many things to many different people.

Another favorite place to hang out on a sunny day! I love to go to the Green Market! There are plenty of food places and shopping in the neighborhood. The artists sell their goods. People play chess. It’s a typical NYC experience.
This is another park that has a ton of history behind it. Read the plaques along the perimeter. You can spend hours soaking up the history of this city!
I intend to return to get pictures of the plaques.

Union Square Park has a little bit of everything NYC going on In and around it at all times of the day, evening, night & wee hours (of which we won’t elaborate on here) !
You got your major shopping stores surrounding the park, Chess & Backgammon players, Flea markets, Holiday Markets, Green Organic Good for you Markets, Peddlers, Beggars, Tourists & sadly homeless people all splayed out in and around Union Square Park.
I’ve been hanging out & walking about Union Square Park since I was a little child with parents, grandparents, friends and all by my lonesome and still enjoy the dynamic Urban scene to be felt & smelled walking through, in and around this park.
There’s always someone who’s got a skill, a craft and or talent who have yet to be discovered with their acts on display for all to admire and see at this park and I love It!

When my son was younger, he would practice his Diabolos (also called Chinese Yo-​Yos), in the middle of Union Square Park. He was so good that he would draw large crowds! He flip them in mid air, I just hung in the background watching him do his thing.
While my son was doing his thing, there are others with the same agenda. Some folks would talk about the US bank failure and have pamphlets to back up their theories, chess players, but the best are the folks giving free hugs. Now, anything for free I question. I’d walk up to them and mess with them:
If I get a free hug are you gonna put a sign on my back saying KICK ME
(I took a free hug from a 20 year old girl, no sign was on my back)
Over the years I’ve seen movies being filmed, the famous Farmers Market, Big Gay Ice Cream truck got its start here and if you can believe it, the subway is here!
Union Square Park — Its a small but always active and fun park

Union Square Park is an interesting park. There’s so much randomness that goes on here. It totally reminds me of Venice beach in California. There’s a bunch of a farmer’s market, street vendors and performances. It’s not as «unique» as Venice beach but it’s close. You don’t have the excessive tool bags in tank tops. It’s like we get it. You lift, brah. We can tell by the lack of leg muscles and looking like a stop sign.
Overall, I definitely think it’s a cool spot to check it out. It’s a couple of blocks from Washington Square Park, NYU and a few other attractions. It’s close to East Village where there are an abundant number of great restaurants with one or two sentence reviews.

This was cool. Fun little park to distractify while we waited for our next touristy event.
They had some sort of Farmers market. But we didn’t have much interest in that. Our interests lay in the kiddie park! My daughter who is a small 12 had a blast hopping all around the place. My wife and I sat for a little bit and chatted then I went in to have a little fun with my daughter and get a few pics.
Not sure what this place looks like at night but it was a nice park during the day. Makes me want to live in Manhattan, all the nice parks they have.

Pour la vraie partie plaisante de Union Square Park, c’est encore plus qu’ailleurs qu’il faut s’y balader tôt en mâtiné ou sur la fin de soirée parce qu’entre deux c’est presque invivable avec tout ces gens qui s’agglutinent les uns sur les autres.
Ici les bâtiments alentours prennent moins d’ampleur stratosphérique alors on se sent moins étouffés et la vue n’en est que plus dégagé.

ziemlich überlaufen. Sonst belanglos. Es hängen hier sobald die Sonne scheint reichlich Leute rum, man wird angebettelt und es dann einens winzigen Hundeplatzes auf der einen Parkseite riecht es reichlich unangenehm.
Die Aussicht auf die umliegenden Gebäude ist ganz nett und zum kurz verschnaufen ist es auch OK, aber mit Absicht dort hin zu gehen kann ich nicht empfehlen.

Des trois petits parcs de Midtown (Bryant, Madison et Union) je dirai qu’en lui-​même Union Square est celui que j’aime le moins. Les deux allées de bancs sont un peu mal foutues, le wifi déconne un peu et qd vous commencez à manger vous né savez pas trop si un gang d’écureuils né va pas vous attaquer (franchement c’est mignons mais il y en a tellement !). Ensuite il n’y a pas vraiment de buildings notoires à admirer et l’un dans l’autre ce n’est pas un parc car il y a pas plus de 25 arbres.
Pourtant Union Square est le vrai coeur de nyc loin de la folie touristique (rigolote mais épuisante) de Times Square. C’est un coin où on se sent vraiment new yorkais !
Autour de la place il y a beaucoup de shopping et de bonnes adresses ce qui rajoute beaucoup d’intérêt à l’endroit.
