Turtle Bay Music School

I was extremely happy with TBMS and impressed with the care that each student is given. The children here are given such specialized attention and they have a large selection of experienced teachers. However, the student services manager, Eric Meyer, has ruined my experiences here. We approached him recently and not only is he rude and condescending but he would not even listen to a few concerns we had. He has left a bad taste with us and I will seriously reconsider where to send my kids in the future.

TBMS holds a special place in our family’s life. Our two sons have been taking lessons there for over 10 years now and we are forever grateful for not only the love of music that TMBS has instilled in them but also for the skills they have acquired with the piano. The teachers are first rate and represent a variety of different teaching styles, which is wonderful since rarely are two children ever alike. Our one son focuses exclusively on classical music with his teacher while the other enjoys a mix of pop and classical. We love the regularly scheduled Young People’s Recitals as a chance to see our and other children perform. Though I should note that despite the goal of finishing a new piece for an upcoming concert, TBMS is a relaxed and supportive environment. One can take their music education as seriously (or not) as they care to. It is ultimately about creating a customized and joyful setting in which to learn and experience the riches of music. We also love the free concerts at TBMS where for free one can catch professional, concert-​grade musicians in an intimate and friendly setting. TBMS is an NYC jewel and we are very glad to be a part of its community.

Their Tuneful Sequence program is wonderful and both my children thrived there. However, please be warned about their suzuki program. It is a totally different management then their regular music programs and they are horrible. They do not have the children’s best interest at heart. We wanted our son who is 3 to have an great first experience but the teachers are young, inexperienced and do not condone a nuturing, safe enviroment for young children to learn.
