Tryp New York Times Square

The hotel is now know as «The Gallivant» and I booked a Deluxe Queen Room for $ 150 a night and had absolutely no issues with my stay. I agree with the other reviews about the bathroom and it is tiny with no door. Kept having to wipe it down but the house keeping was FANTASTIC and on it with the towels. The room hand a very modern design which I liked and the AC was running cold and well. No signs of bed bugs and with the location is great for everything my friend and I were wanting to do. I would definitely stay here again.

I was able to lock in the hotel at $ 124/​night on Hotel Tonight. We were placed in room 1501. Tripadvisor reviews suggested a higher floor room and toward the back of the hotel. I’m certainly glad we did. We tried to check in shortly after 9am however we were told the room would not be ready until standard checkin time at 3pm. The front desk had us situated on the 10^th floor. However, at 3pm the front desk assigned us to a 4^th floor room. We were quick to say that we had requested a higher floor room and luckily got placed on the 15^th floor.
The room was clean, but as the reviews say, it is tiny. My husband is 6 feet tall, and his feet were dangling off the edge. The bed is smaller than the typical queen. The bathroom is also small that there are not many places for you to place your toiletries.
The hotel also charges you $ 2/​bag for storage. This is the first hotel I have seen that charges its customers for this service. The bellman wasn’t very attentive as the lady in front of me only received one of two bags and had to ask for her missing bags. When it was my turn, the bellman didn’t read the tag and instead ask me what color and type of bag I had dropped off.
The location is great, being close to Times Square, theaters and subway stops. For the price, I am fine with it.

I wish I didn’t even have to leave a star because the way the staff treated me is awful. Don’t stay here. I’ve stayed here many times and I was so disappointed in the awful way they treated me. Do not stay here.

For the location, this hotel deserves a 5 stars! It is just 2 blocks from Time Square! Since we stayed during the Easter holiday, they charged $ 165 + tax per night for a queen bedroom is a good deal already. The room is clean and modern. However, the bathroom is super tiny. You can’t dress yourself in the bathroom because there is no room to stand. As others’ reviews, since it is only half glass door, water is splashing out and the floor is all wet like a pond! But overall, for the price and location, it is worth it!
My brother got a family room which is very spacious with 2 queen and 1 bunk bed. Recommend for family of 5 – 6 ppl!

The cleanliness of this hotel was ok, the bed skirts seemed to have a permanent stain on it. Although the rest of the room was TINY it was duable for my one night stay. I am all about customer service, so this place is definitely disappointing in that aspect. The staff is extremely rude, not helpful at all. Do not stay here if you want an all around pleasant stay!

. my boyfriend and I have an event in april and thought it best to spend the night. last night, I received an email stating that my reservation was canceled. after contacting the hotel, I was told that my card was declined and my reservation canceled. my card shouldn’t have been declined and when I contacted my bank about the issue, they didn’t see any incoming or declined charges from the hotel. the hotel didn’t didn’t call me
or shoot me an email to make me aware of the declined charge and give me a chance to rectify the situation, just canceled my reservation. when I spoke to a woman at the hotel, she offered me no solutions. super poor customer service. bummer.

I got a great deal on Hotel Tonight and I must say, I enjoyed the experience overall here. While there are some real detractors to the rating, I will emphasis that I would recommend this hotel because it was clean and the outstanding location.
The location is awesome. The purpose of this trip was to go to see Wicked The Musical last minute. As the day approached, the forecast was to be in the 70’s (in March!), so we added Central Park to our list of places to visit. This hotel was convenient to both. It was just 3 blocks from the theatre and about 6 streets from Central Park. It was a few minutes from Hell’s Kitchen and Times Square as well.
The room was tiny. Itty bitty. But it was clean. It seemed contemporary. The room was warm because of the sun but the AC kept us cool. The bed was a full size; we are two smaller people, but we didn’t feel cramped. The room has USB outllets, a flat screen TV, and a little closet. The floors are hardwood (or something that resembles it), so I imagine you could hear people above you; but we didn’t have any issue with that.
The bathroom was small, and the shower was tiny. I have stayed in 2 other NYC hotels and this was the smallest shower I have ever seen. It has «European style» according to the website; which means there is no door or curtain on the shower (well half a glass), so the water goes everywhere! If you are a larger person, you may have trouble showering. When I was done showering, there was a pond outside the shower. They really should add a curtain. It will make the bathroom to appear even smaller, but keeping the water in the shower would help.
The front desk was pretty nice with the service. The checkout was a little less friendly, as the person was having a conversation with a coworker while checking me out. This is a pet-​peeve of mine; it takes 2 minutes or less to check me and I was a paying customer. Pretend to smile and give me 100% of your attention, that’s all I ask!
The baggage area held our bags for a few hours and it was $ 2 a bag, but he took more than 2 bags and only charged us $ 4; he was very nice.
The site states you can self park for $ 45 and valet park for $ 55, but I didn’t know how to initiate this process. I parked across the street, literally, at a garage for $ 60 overnight. It’s fine, but there should be some instructions on the website or the travel site for that.
Overall though, it was a great experience. Convenient. Clean. I would come back here again.

Booked on HotelTonight last minute deal. So I can’t complain about that. Staff was very friendly since I booked last minute I was without some toiletries and they were able to supply it with no issue. Room was comfortable and showers were good. The rooms are tiny but average for the price and being in NYC. The heater /​cooling unit in the room was on all night and was too loud.

But, they accommodated us and ultimately took care of everything. Rooms were a pretty decent size and the bed was cozy. Good price given the location as well. I’ll probably stay here again.

This was a last minute trip to New York for NYE. Really last minute as in it was booked December 26. Snagged a sale through Priceline they were having for $ 215/​night. Are you kidding me? There has got to be a catch. Booked for 2 nights 12/31−½ so for 2 nights the total was $ 501. But I should also note that my room was covered through my credit card company so all I had to actually pay out of pocket was $ 3.80 for hotel fees.
OK so NYE is finally here. We hit the road at about 7:30am from Baltimore and arrived in NY around 11. I was told by hotel staff that the parking garage that they validate for is Quik Parking on 50^th street between 8^th and Broadway. It’s actually attached to a theater but the name of the theater escapes me. The hotel fee at the garage is $ 45/​day (exactly 24 hours) If you go beyond that 24^th hour you will be charged another $ 45 for another daily rate. With that being said, if you don’t plan to move your car at exactly the 24^th hour, it’ll be cheaper to use the garage regular hourly rate. Ex. after checkout we decided to get breakfast which was around 11:00, by the time I went to get the car out of the garage which was 1 hour beyond my 48^th hour I was being charged another $ 45 for the day. Total for parking with the hotel discount was $ 135, however the gentleman at the garage told me that he would charge me the garage rate which made the total $ 122.
Anyway, back to the hotel. Thankfully upon arrival around 11:00 we were allowed to check in which was a smooth process and not made to wait until 3 pm. Waited in line about 10 min and then off to my room 322 (facing the street). Because of other reviews I was a little skeptical about being in a room on a low floor and facing the street due to noise. But I’m a city girl and I felt like, what’s the worse that can happen. Obviously there was noise but not enough to keep us from sleeping. Yes I heard sirens and horns in the distance but even being directly across the street from a roof top bar I didn’t even hear any NYE/​partying noise from that. The only noise we heard which really grated on my nerves was from the flag pole banging in the wind. The banging of poles in the middle of the night is very annoying. Again, not annoying enough to piss me off in NY on NYE. Cute little quaint but modern room. I loved the wallpaper which is actually a map of NY. The beds and pillows were not too soft and not too firm but a very in between comfortable and the linens were of good quality. The room was small like other reviews stated but how much time are you spending in the room anyway. It was 2 of us and it was just enough room. I also read complaining reviews of no outlets to plug in electronic devices. Not true. There was an iHome on the right side of the bed where you can plug your iPhone into that or plug another device into the USB outlet on the iHome. On the left side of the bed there’s 2 USB outlets. You also have a small closet with hangers, iron and ironing board. Coffee maker was a plus for me as well. The only thing that I would actually have to complain about is the size of the bathroom. It was literally a matchbox. No sink space for anything except about 3 of those 3oz liquid bottles that you have to carry on airplanes. I’m only 5’2 and while sitting on the toilet (which sits really low) my knees were about 2 inches away from the wall. Not sure how anybody taller or heavier than me can use this toilet without being crunched against the wall or falling into the shower. If you are tall, heavy or have any kind of disability you may want to request a larger room. I believe my room was the cheapest/​standard room. My other complaint would be the shower. The water pressure was high and the water gets very very hot but please install a shower curtain or door. Other reviews stated that their floor got soak and wet due to the lack of a shower curtain. I have to admit that we just put a towel on floor and honestly the towel was barely wet. Problem solved. For me it’s still kind of awkward taking a shower with nothing there though.
Check out was easy breezy, just gave them my name and checkout was done. We decided to eat breakfast after checkout so we just dropped our bags off with the bellman. NOTE: There“s a $ 2/​item fee for bags to be held. Now this is what I have a problem with or maybe I’m just spoiled by this service being free, minus tip in other tourist places such as Vegas or LA.

Room Tip: Choose rooms away from the flagpole facing the street. Probably floors 2 – 5

I was slightly worried about this hotel because of the reviews but for $ 100 a night on the corner of Times Square it was a steal! We got one of the newly renovated rooms, everything was very clean when we arrived. There were cleaning supplies (seemed like they are stored outside the rooms I the hallways) every time we came I and out of our room… but at least they’re cleaning! It was nice to have a room big enough for 2 with a private bath. The bathroom is very tiny and the shower doesn’t close so there was some spillage onto the floor. The location was probably the best thing about it! It is right between 7^th and 8^th ave so you can choose to walk with the tourists in Times Square or walk on 8^th where there’s more locals and cheaper/​better food options.

Booked this hotel on Hotel Tonight, I got it for $ 99 a night December 17^th-​19^th 2015.
Room is actually a decent size. Was on the 7^th floor. You could definitely hear the people above you walk since the rooms are not carpeted. Also the crack below the door entry was not a tight seal and could hear the outside doors slam shut and people talk.
The bathroom tile around the light switch and in the shower look like it was falling apart.
Also I went downstairs to grab a small cup of OJ during breakfast on my way to my run outside (which I no one told me there was a charge for the OJ) at 10:29 AM, and was charged $ 20!!! To my room. So I am currently fighting that with my credit card company. SNEAKY!

This hotel is cute and sheik perfect if you’re looking for a place right in the center of New York City. I went to New York for the weekend on a date and so we got a hotel for the night. We had the perfect view right outside of our window. The shower was sexy and see through it had cute furniture. A lot of reviews mention how small the room is, but it actually wasn’t that bad or maybe we just got lucky, because we both loved our room. When you step outside you are right in Times Square which is convenient and close to everything. I would absolutely recommend this hotel the only thing that sucks is the parking you have to park across the street for $ 45/​night but no in and outs. That is my only criticism and how tiny the elevators are. Other than that I absolutely adored this hotel.

Got this hotel off groupon. For the price I really shouldn’t have been surprised for what I got. When you enter it is modern but once you step into the 2 person capacity elevator you start to realize what your working with. The room was nothing more than a queen bed and bathroom. The shower had half a glass window so the bathroom floor was soaked when you were done. They need to do something about the Windows because you can hear every last peep from outside. Yes I know it’s the city and its loud however– the noise we experienced was rediculous. Not to mention the fire house right next door. As for the room service they never left any towels, no extra toilet paper and never restocked the soap. Staff was neither pleasant nor rude and the location was the only thing going for them. Never again would I return.

Stayed 1 night here and booked through hotels tonight. Got a killer deal of $ 118.
Location and the appearance of a trendy hotel are the best things. The rooms are small as expected in Manhattan. The shower doesn’t have a door, so water gets everywhere. Which sounds like a dumb complaint– but it was just bad design and makes for soggy towels. The shades in the room were not black out– I slept with a mask on to block the morning light.

Stayed here a couple months ago. Iv never been to New York so I didn’t know quite what to expect besides what iv been told and read.
This location is perfect! That alone gets a star

I have never seen such a small elevator. It is so small but kind of cute. However the wait for a elevator is ridiculously long.
The hallways are always full of laundry carts and the floors never look clean.
The rooms literally are so small!
When we walked in the towel rack fell off the wall and almost dropped all the towels in the toilet. It took two days for them to fix this.
Also we ordered ordered a fridge 3 weeks before arrival to find out they «ran» out the day before we arrived. however we finally did get one before checkout
For two people it was really hard to fit everything. We were staying for a few weeks in surrounding areas so had two bags each. I had to sleep next to my bag and make sure everytime I got up I didn’t trip on anything.
The bed did seem comfy at least. We had 1 queen bed.
The second to last day of our stay we found bugs in the bathroom. The staff was kind and upgraded our room to a family room which was really cool and helpful. We finally could move around and not trip on everything.
Overall, the location is probably the only reason I would go back there or to try to revisit everything in that area that I missed the first time. If they cleaned the hallways and handled problems just a bit quicker I might reconsider.

Great, great location by Time Square. I was headed to Allegiance and surprised it is next door. Definitely the best mid-​priced hotel I have stayed in the area.
Room pretty small but well appointed with a very comfy pillow top bed.
Wish breakfast was included, but I was comped one morning because I had to wait so long to check in.

the room is very small! and the shower… is so small and all the water going out on the floor… you can see the room is fixed up, it’s nice. the location is super great, two steps and you in times square. if the hotel is only for one or two nights so it’s good. also we get great price.

I am pretty sure I got bitten by bed bugs in room 700. I have multiple bites all over my body. Staff was not helpful and most of them did not speak English. Marriott properties are much nicer.

Even though we flew in on a red eye and ensured that a room would be ready for us, it was not. Perhaps it’s deliriousness from lack of sleep, or the 100 people gathered in the lobby for both breakfast and checkin but this place seems to have major operational issues. At least we got a breakfast voucher for some sketchy eggs and stale bread!

ROOM: …so the reviews were correct! The size of the room is «SMALL». It is like «European» sized hotel rooms… maybe smaller. I’m a «not fat, shorter than 5’5″ person» and I had to keep the bathroom door open to breathe… just keep in mind, the room is just for laying your head and being close to «the action». This room was for me and one other person and we «literally» were bumping into each other.LOLOLLL. It was cool though for a «touchstone».
The bed was an American «full» size and was comfortable enough.
TIP: if you are a «big boned American» (also known as Fat), you will Not be comfortable in the bathroom.
NOTE: The room has no fridge, nor microwave.
LOBBY: trendy and «cool» ambiance. It was extremely helpful to have the business center on the lower level of the lobby.
BREAKFAST OFFERING: Don’t be tricked into eating the breakfast for $ 20 in the side restaurant. It’s «basic» and «continental» quality for 3 times the necessary price.
STAFF: was friendly and helpful
RESULTS: It was a good place for the weekend we were there. It was a nice place to just sleep and what a TV show or two before you head out since the room is too small to just «hang out» in!

We are visiting from CA and did not know what to expect but we have been very happy with our stay. All rooms of NY are going to be small we understood that. However Kumar was great and helped us out and upgraded our room to a penthouse. What a nice room with a great view of the city. Service is great and room is very nice!

Stayed here this past weekend 8÷29÷15. Got a reasonable deal online and with the price and location, couldn’t complain. One block from Times Square though you couldn’t here it too much. Just extremely loud moments.
Check in was a breeze and the bar/​check in/​lobby area is trendy and modern. The elevator is a joke. Can fit maybe four people with no luggage. The hallways! always! have carts, trash, and other crap filling the small area.
The room itself is small but adequate if your looking for a sleep, shower, luggage storage room. The bathroom is extra small, with a gurgling (randomly) toilet, European shower with no actual door (a bit breezy and water everywhere!), and a quasi-​functioning sink. I understand renovations are under way but I can’t believe you’d let guests stay in those rooms. There was painters tape holding new flooring on step together, a broken step leading to the balcony, and a super suspect balcony.
Service wasn’t bad, though we really didn’t need or interact with staff much. Meaning check-​in and check-​out went smoothly. Thought about storing our bags the last day til we were ready to leave. The info page says its $ 2/​bag so a good deal, if it’s true and available. Decided against this just cause we didn’t want to chance it. Was never able to get wifi to connect, regardless of help from front desk.
Overall, if I was tight on many, extremely not-​picky, and not going to spend a lot of time in the room, I might consider this place, if there’s a deal that makes it impossible to beat. But only then.

I chose this hotel because of a Travelocity deal. Its location is great, right in the heart of the theater district. The lobby is very bright and trendy and seemed to always be full of people. Our room was small, but clean. The hallway, however, was filthy. There was trash outside our door from the time we checked in until the time we checked out. In addition, the renovation job was very sloppy, you can see paint splatters everywhere. Overall, I can’t complain too much, I got a really good rate.

My/​our review. Today is our «check out» day rm#1428. The Front Desk Staff member that checked us in (⁶⁄₂), she was MARVELOUS… a sunny personality, which was a rainy day literally (sorry tired forgot her name). When placing calls to the Reception desk, the staff was great, with one exception when asked about a microwave. Housekeepers/​maid service… great. Ok, PROS & CONS.
PROS:
*Great location less than a block from Times Square (you will hear the activities on Times Square)
*Overall the Staff was great.
*The room/​bathroom nicely decorative/​Modern.
*The room was clean.
*Cute Lobby/​liked the Bar in Lobby
CONS:
*You will hear the activities on Times Square
*Rooms are small but doable.
*Loud noises from Toilet, scared us every now and then.
*Shower was POORLY designed, with each shower there was a flood in the bathroom.

Here’s the one positive thing I can say about this hotel: The location is great, especially if you’re NYC to visit Times Square and/​or the theatre district. It’s right in the middle of everything. If location is the most important thing to you, you might be able to tolerate this hotel.
Now for everything else: As much as I normally am most concerned with location, I would never ever ever ever ever EVER stay in this hotel again, even if it was the cheapest room in the city.
When we arrived to the hotel, it was much earlier than check-​in time, but the front desk offered us a queen room instead of a room with two twin beds and allowed us to check in early, so that was a pleasant enough surprise… until we paid for the room. We waited at least ten minutes for a tiny broom-​closet sized elevator that we had to stuff ourselves into with about six other people with no AC.
We walked into our room, and the temperature was roughly 110 degrees with 95% humidity. When I crossed the (very small) room to turn on the AC unit, there was a sign instructing me to use the thermostat on the wall… EXCEPT THAT THERE WAS NO THERMOSTAT ON THE WALL. We called the main desk and were told that someone would be right up to «show us where it was.»
20 minutes or so later, someone arrived and discovered that we weren’t just stupid and there was indeed no thermostat. He turned the AC on manually from inside the unit and said he would «be right back» with a thermostat to install. Half an hour to 45 minutes later, he came back and installed a thermostat, so at least that problem was solved.
As a side note, the wifi is nearly unusable– and, from time to time, COMPLETELY unusable.
Fast forward an hour or two, and we had been noticing a chemical smell in our room but didn’t think much of it, assuming it was probably some kind of cleaning product… until an employee of the hotel simply barged into our room without so much as a knock on the door to inform us she would bring us some air freshener because the last people who had been in the room had complained of the smell. Um, thanks, but maybe next time you could… NOT just walk into my room without announcing yourself?
When we decided to venture back out into the city, we opted to take the stairs instead of waiting for the ridiculous elevator again. There were dead cockroaches on two landings in the stairwell, and they remained there for the entire duration of our stay. At least they were dead, but… well, now we know the source of the chemical smell in our room.
On our last morning at the hotel, we got up early to go into the city and explore. We left the hotel at around 6:45. On our way out, we stopped at the main desk to ask if we could leave our bags in storage, since we were planning to check out and just come back to pick up our stuff later. When we asked about it, the gentleman at the front desk looked at us like we were insane and informed us that the concierge hadn’t come in yet and it wasn’t his job, so we returned our bags to the room via the cockroach-​ridden stairwell and decided we would come back at checkout time to pick up our bags.
We returned to the hotel around 10:30 to pick up our bags, and as we were returning to the room a housekeeper stopped us in the hallway and said «You haven’t checked out yet?» Checkout time is noon at this hotel, but the housekeeper went up one side of us and down the other about how we should not mess up the room because she had already cleaned it because we were supposed to have checked out. Apparently she didn’t find it strange that all of our luggage was still in the room when she cleaned it?
All in all, I have never had a worse customer service experience at any hotel in any city. If I was a less tolerant person I’d have asked for a refund or a discount, but they will absolutely never see another penny of my money.
