Specialties
Tortaria is a Mexican-style sandwich shop and tequila bar that specializes in tortas (Mexican sandwiches), taquitos, and regional comfort foods. Other menu highlights include made-to-order guacamole, hand-pressed corn tortillas, and house-made margaritas from fresh fruit, which add an artisanal punch to the restaurant’s quick-serve menu.
History
Established in 2012.
Tortaria co-owner and longtime New York City restaurateur Howard Berke developed the concept alongside partners Evan Golub, Danny Lachs, Marvin Mitzner, and Davie Berke, his son. The team envisioned Tortaria as a stylish Mexican sandwich joint that was accessible to the customer, sophisticated in its use of authentic Mexican ingredients, and flexible enough to do take-out as well as tequila.
