James Walsh is an Executive Producer and Proprietor at Threshold Recording Studios NYC. He has over 25 years of experience as an entrepreneur, music producer, artist & project manager, and performing musician.

Mr. Walsh’s Executive Production & Consultation services are engaged by some of the most significant names in music including: S-​Curve Records, Jeff Buckley Music, Disney, ABC, CBS, Universal, Capitol Records, Atlantic Records, Columbia Records, Sony, The NY Times, and many more. Mr. Walsh has overseen the production & recording of thousands of musicians & hundreds of band recordings over the years– ranging in diversity from Foreigner, The Strokes, Dennis Leary and The Enablers, to Todd Alsup, Diane Birch, etc.

Mr. Walsh is also an Executive Board Member of the Road Recovery Foundation– a NYC based non-​for-​profit 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to harnessing the power of the entertainment industry to mentor youth across a wide variety of adversities.

We worked with James Walsh (owner), Mike Wuerth (engineer), and another gentleman, who filmed a little music video to accompany the recording. These guys were great. They knew our goal and constraints, and worked with all of them, in a relaxed fashion. Intimate studio too. The recording was exactly what we wanted. I’d work with these guys again, and am looking for a reason to do so.

Recording at Threshold Studios was pure pleasure. The studio is well-​appointment and comfortable, and the rates are highly competitive. Mike is a skilled recording engineer who brought an easygoing, encouraging manner to our project. He makes it clear from the start that he can provide as much or as little artistic input as you wish — and then he honors your preference. (You would do well to listen to his ideas; he’s very musical himself.) Mike is good with time management as well, keeping everything on schedule and helping you prioritize as you go. We highly recommend Threshold Studios!

I am very impressed with Threshold’s professionalism. Any studio can buy fancy equipment, but it’s only as good as the engineers that run that equipment. I feel very lucky to have worked with two wonderful engineers, Jeremy and Alan. They work hard to ensure the client is getting what he wants, and what’s more, they are able to work with singers and musicians and communicate to them what they need to do to get the proper sound. I usually know if something is wrong, but knowing WHY it’s wrong and knowing how to correct the problem is an invaluable skill that the engineers at Threshold possess. They are able to take tracks that at times I think are unsalvageable, and they actually can make them work. I am very thankful to them for their professionalism.

Despite being a life-​long amateur guitarist and singer — and most recently, song-​writer — I have only recently started to dabble with recording of my music. A friend of mine gave me a 3-​hr recording session with Threshold as birthday present. Wow, what an amazing gift that turned out to be. I was pretty nervous doing this, as the studio looks so professional and I’m nowhere near professional, but James and his colleague Jeremy made me nothing but comfortable.
it was very cool playing and singing in single tracks. Tricky at first as I realized that my singing helps to keep my place in the guitar part of the song, but I fairly quickly got to the point of being able to «sing in my head» while I played.
it was fascinating to then sit with Jeremy and mix and edit my music. He snipped and clipped, enhanced and reduced, added a bit of this and that. and I suddenly sounded like the striving amateur that I am! I now have a CD of 6 songs to share with my unsuspecting friends and family. :)

Basically, Threshold is the perfect studio for artists that want to put out a commercial quality product with a personal touch. The studio competes and surpasses a lot of the «big» houses in NYC, totally beating their prices, too. And — they have a gorgeous acoustic grand piano. The studio has a great vibe — very relaxed and unassuming and very easy to foster creativity. As an artist, it’s a very friendly environment to work in. As a producer, it has everything one would need. Definitely the place to be.

Since 2008 Threshold Recording Studios NY has been helping our Non-​profit organization (Road Recovery) by providing a professional recording and rehearsal space for the teens involved in our Performance Workshop Programs. Their facilities provide state-​of-​the-​art equipment in a professional recording environment. And their staff is one of a kind!
