Third Avenue Ale House

I have been here many times because it is a local hang out after work with colleagues.
This place is ok. Seems all upscale but its really just an average bar with a nice beer selection and bar food.
Food:
Never had a problem with the food. Always tasty and filling.
If you are a Nachos fans this is a must here. Their everything Nachos are great!
Very nice portions to their dishes.
Beers and drinks:
They have a great beer selection. But they aren’t that cold. Even beers like Amstel Light are warm. If you like cold beer this isn’t the place for you.
Its an average bar really. If you are hanging with some friends and you end up there you’ll have a nice time. Other than that don’t go out of your way for this place there are so many other great places to go here in NYC.

I came here last week with a buddy visiting from out of town. We had an early flight to Colorado the next morning to kick off a ski vacation so we were pumped to drink libations and devour food in celebration. I received the «I’ll go wherever you decide because you live here» speech from my friend so this is where we landed. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience.
The restaurant has a good setup, including the bar and high top tables in the front and a larger seating area in the back. There were televisions broadcasting college hoops and sports highlights, which was a plus in my book. The atmosphere was relaxing and ideal for catching up with friends (my situation) or having a casual/​first date (the table next to us). Our waiter was friendly and did a good job of recommending food and drinks.
The beer menu is awesome. There’s a wide selection of bottles and drafts, varying in style and country of origin. You could order something familiar (i.e. Bud Light), but that’s boring and their options are too good. Some of my favorites from the night were the Orval Trappist Ale, Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, and Ommegang Three Philosophers Quadrupel Ale. Honestly, you really cannot go wrong with any of their «reserve bottles.»
The dinner menu is expansive, including snacks, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, entrées, and pizza. I ordered the lamb burger with sweet potato fries. The burger, which was served with tzatziki sauce and spices on an English muffin (cool), was delicious. The fries were also tasty. My buddy got the bison burger, which I’m assuming he enjoyed considering he finished it in about 0.02 seconds.
I definitely recommend it. I’ll be back again soon!

They are slowly improving and now have a Happy Hour. Haven’t had the time to try the food again but will in the future. (I see they dumped the curry-​deviled eggs – ugh – a good sign).

Great spot for refreshing brews, lots to choose from and a great atmosphere. The food is pretty solid as well, lots of food for The price and all of it is in true form great bar food.

Hands down the best nachos you will ever eat in this city. Be careful though– you can sneakily run up a big tab drinking the craft beer out of happy hour.

Loved it! So delicious. I had the turkey burger with sweet potato fries. I really enjoyed the texture, so juicy, and tasty.
My daughter had the chicken club sandwich regular fries. She was very pleased.
We split the Tortufo for desert. It was just enough.
Prices are reasonable for the taste, portion, atmosphere and quality service. Our server Melissa was so nice. The staff made sure our drinks were refilled timely.
I’ll be back for sure!

Went on a Sunday night during football season. Relatively full. Good food. Had the knockwurst. Great french fries. Good service. Good atmosphere. Wild change from the former Brother Jimmy’s spot. Dessert just OK. Would definitely go back.

First time here. Craft brews were very good. Definitely going back. This place had a wide selection of Brews and our waitress was very knowledgeable of each. She was very helpful. They offered taster glasses so that you could try before you buy. We had several drinks and were very happy. Wedding eat there this visit so definitely going back to eat and continue tasting them any beers.

This place sets the bar for five stars. We sat down, the waiter immediately brought over waters. TVs are well placed, menu is great, and the food is aamazing.

Nice, surprisingly spacious place on the UES. Service is very slow but food is pretty good. I didn’t like the nachos but the truffled popcorn was amazing and the few other appetizers we ordered were delicious. Prices are reasonable as well and the restaurant can accommodate larger groups.

I was pleasantly surprised walking into this bar after seeing an event at the 92^nd Street Y. This bar had one of the best beer selections I’ve seen lately, and their sliders were pricey — but delicious. The ambiance is nice — casual and warm. The crowd was your typical Upper East side after-​work hours crowd. I would definitely return here again for the beer line-​up alone!

Awesome beer selection on tap, great food (I had the Brussels sprouts salad and it was awesome!) staff was super friendly, nice and attentive. Prices were on point. I don’t hang out much at all on UES but def feel found a fav spot up there for when I do!

Came here to enjoy food & drinks with my friend. Very friendly staff. Good amount of space nice & comfy cozy spot to just have a good time. I don’t like there selection of beers wish they had more than just craft beers on tap! But they do have a large selection of beers and they have a large selections of liquors! Food was delicious my friend and I both ate the whole plate! Hamburgers and sweet potato fries, they were nice and warm and crispy. Meet was super fresh, juicy, and a filling size! I recommend trying this place/​making it a once a every two weeks or week stop for lunch!!! Loved it here.

Not the worst but not great. The food is typical pub food, nothing special about pretty standard. The only reason in giving it two stars is for the service. Ive been here two times and both times the service has been pretty lousy. It took about 15 – 20 minutes for us to get our drinks and then forever for us to flag down the waitress to get our check at the end. If you are in the mood for a burger and beer this place will do just make sure to sit at the bar.

Good place to watch sports! We can here for the US open but unfortunately left, as the game was delayed 3 hours. The pretzel they have is a bit crunchier than you’d think, and it’s stuffed with cheese. We didn’t order a lot of food, but the lady we were next to said they have good soups. The menu didn’t look too original though. This is the kinda spot that you come for some beers and random snackies, in my opinion, but it could also be great for families, as they have a huge spacious area in the back of the place.

GO HERE! — Tremendous service. I have been here several times and the service is very consistent– everyone is very friendly, attentive and HOSPITABLE!

I am giving them 5 stars bc of the service. It exceeds any experience i’ve had any other bar.

Large selection of craft beers, large sandwiches, and large order of nachos. I like this place for all these reasons. Prices are very reasonable. My only complaint would be that it was above 90 degrees and they didn’t have the air conditioner on.
It’s basically a pub. I don’t have high expectations for bar food, but I was pleasantly surprised. Look forward to trying the brunch. Definitely recommend the nachos if you like nachos in general.

I’ll skip the preamble and go straight to the point.
Decent selection of beers, nothing too crazy on tap. The egg roll appetizer was OK. Tastes strange to be honest and the fried dough was chewy. Not good.
The sprout salad was great! Very fulfilling and tasty.
They have seating outside on 92^nd st.
I’ll rate then again when I have some of their brunch plates. I hear great things about them.

tl;dr: If you want a chill place with a decent selection of beer and and food that you’ll be happy to eat, you could do a lot worse than the Third Ave Ale House.
When my friend said we were meeting for dinner after work at an ale house, I thought to myself… aw man, I don’t even like beer. But I looked at the food menu, and it seemed OK, and they served wine, so I figured I’d find something I liked.
I got there before my fiends, told the friendly hostess that I was going to meet friends, and she told me to sit anywhere. The atmosphere was cozy, I received a menu right away, and was asked if I wanted anything to drink. I said just water for now, and the first friend didn’t arrive for 15 minutes, and I was asked once more if I wanted a drink, but I was not asked if my friends were arriving «soon» (y’all know what I’m talking about).
Once my friends got there, I looked at the drink menu again. I don’t usually drink beer, but when I do, I prefer high octane stouts, and they had one on the menu, but… they had just removed it from the tap. So they let me taste its replacement, which was a fruity kind of beer that I enjoyed very much, unfortunately, I don’t remember what it was called.
I had the roasted mushroom and goat cheese wrap, big enough to save half to take home, but nothing deserving of hyperbole.
