The WOW Cafe Theater

The show was good, but the bathroom is like a portapotty – it only has hand sanitizer with which to attempt to wash your hands!

Like it, you must visit this fine Wow Café Theater, and its good to see and listen to small groups.

This place is absolutely fabulous! The WOW Café Theater is located in a rather indiscript building, and I was pleasantly surprised upon entering. It is nothing visually stunning to be sure – a very barebones black box theater. But it is a great, intimate space to see a wonderful line-​up of shows. I highly recommend going to see Rivers of Honey here, a show featuring queer women and trans people of color, on the first Friday of every month. It was quite brilliant.
Also, any venue that has this radical of a mission – and sticks to it – should and must be supported with absolute heart. The space was very welcoming and inviting for everyone. Truly. I’ll definitely be a regular here.

I’ve performed at this theater, seen shows at this theater, and personally know the woman who 20 years ago helped make WOW Café Theater what it is today.
The space is awesome. Small black box theater with modest sound board and lights. It does the job and provides a home to many small scale plays, performances, and single-​person productions. I came here to see Waiting for Show and XY (T) but I’ve previously performed at Rivers of Honey, which is a queer women and trans people of color variety show.
I love that WOW Café Theater’s mission is to provide a space for lesbian artists to produce their work. Even more awesome is their acceptance of trans people in their mission statement — that they are open to also providing a home to trans people who identify as lesbian or queer, especially people of color.
I don’t know if they have a license or not, but it’s pretty awesome that they serve cold beer right inside the theater.
