The Supporting Cast

I was assigned a freelance catering gig a month in advance for ⁵⁄₁₂ I confirmed and was told I will be sent the details 2 hour befor the event I’m told that they are using there internal cook. Very unprofessional poor communication did I mention this is the first time in the 2 years they gave me work lol what a joke it’s fine so now in the future when I am a chef I know not to use this company again lol bunch of clowns

met w/​Jessica in early 2012. Very nice. Introduced me to other office staffers. Always friendly but she’s never had any jobs (or even leads). Sent emails for a few months. No jobs.

Is there a point to contacting this agency at all? I started out trying to get office assignments from them months ago. For weeks on end I was sharing my availability for nothing. I never got called for anything. If it comes down to having a weak resume, I wouldn’t know it. The only contact with the company has been through my efforts since registration day. Like most NYC agencies, they want you to wait on a call that doesn’t come. Then when I bite the bullet and try to reestablish a connection with them, they tell me that all they have are hospitality jobs & the summer is usually slow. Hello, the WINTER was slow too, apparently.
This agency exemplifies what I can’t stand about the staffing industry. They’re more than happy to waste people’s time by collecting resumes when they aren’t going to get any work to begin with. What chance does someone walking into their office today have, or even deserve when someone like me is still waiting on an assignment? Yeah, the economic situation is terrible all around. But if it’s so bad for your agency, why haven’t you folded by now? Just tell us right away that there’s nothing you can do so we can move on.

Main goal was to find a summer job while I was on college break.
Went in to take a basic skills test, typing, word processor, excel. Then a in person interview.
Received several assignments over the course of 3 months, each lasting from 1 — 2 days to 1 — 2 weeks.
Good balance for the summer, not too much work so I can enjoy my summer break.
Don’t know if they still give you $ 100 for referring a friend, but they did have a contest where you refered the most talent and potential temps who actually receive an assignment, I won =)

Thank goodness — the awful counselor I was assigned to is no longer there. An associate of his took on his stack of candidates and called me in for a face to face interview and I’m really glad she did. She had an opportunity that sounded like a very good fit and she gave me back the hope I needed and wanted from them.
I’m hoping this firm can work their magic.

To all you motivated job seekers looking for a place that’ll match your skills to what’s out there, just skip this one. Without going into specifics let me just say that this place was a waste of a few hours, and frustrating. There are many others that’ll help in a more organized and professional way. I really like The Supporting Cast! I moved to NYC form TX in Aug. 2009 I had been looking for work for 7 months. I had found some ok jobs… but all jobs I could have done without a college degree!
One of my friends told me about The Supporting Cast so I sent them my res. and then they called me in for an interview. They got me a 3 month temp job the NEXT DAY!!! I am making 12 hr. and the company I am temping for gets lunch for me everyday:) So far my experience is a great one!!! Still looking for that dream job, but until then The Supporting Cast is keeping me on my feet!!!

Alright, so maybe the receptionist does smack her gum a little too much while spending hours on the phone with her mother, but other than that, my experience with The Supporting Cast was quite good.
After filling out a bunch of paper work, undergoing a series of computerized tests (90 words per minute thank you very much), and an ‘interview’, I had my first job. Seeing as I was simply looking for temporary summer work and not a means to a long term career, I was more than happy to take anything that my agent (is that the correct term?) Jillian threw my way.
Throughout the summer I had to be somewhat proactive in assuring that I had a job lined up for the following week and other times I didn’t know that I had a job until 8 am that morning, but I worked consistently and was paid for it.
One week, I even got to work at ABC headquarters and met Regis Philbin, which made it all worth it…

I have made the rounds at the agencies and this one felt kinda ghetto. The other people waiting in the lobby made me feel like I had to hide my purse. The person who interviewed me was nice I guess but she seemed bored and I was just wondering what sad twist of fate caused her to end up working there. There was a guy stomping out of one of the offices who appeared to be in charge of everyone but also seemed REALLY angry. Not sure what all that was about.

Perhaps it’s just summer, and slower, but I was very disappointed with my experience here. For me, Supporting Cast was another classic case of the temp agency syndrome: they are quick to bring you in, and quick to forget about you.
The girl I met with sent my resume to one person, and when I called her to follow up a few days later, she said she’d «call me if anything came up,» in a very final way. Hmm. Sometimes I really don’t know who they are taking on…

So I only worked one job for them, but this is by far the most legit temp agency in NYC.
Unlike some other agencies that get paid 16 — 20 dollars an hour, and pass on half of that to the temp, TSC jobs pay well. I was making $ 20 an hour for acting as a stenographer for a focus group.
Also, the office is very nice, clean, well lit. And the people there are friendly.
If you’re looking for a temp job in the city, I highly recommend going through The Supporting Cast!
