The POD 39 Hotel

Yes, the rooms were small but very clean, up to date and well organized. Front desk and all contacts were very helpful. Beautiful outdoor, rooftop bar, Salvation Taco for dinner was unique and delicious but pricey, it is nyc!
Why only 3 stars? We were the only couple over 35! It was like visiting my daughters college town. All wonderful if you fit the demographic. For us, one and done.

Room is small but adequate. Male staff is nice. Female receptionist named Karolina is TERRIBLE. I’ve seen the same about the restaurant too. Rude female staff. The rooms are ok. I would like a real two tap sink and shower! There is only one ?? Why? Definitely a budget hotel. Expect that and you are fine.

Came here with a coworker after work. Had some good tasting Drinks and the bar staff was friendly. The drinks were just right and not too strong. In the summer you have the outside rooftop bar which is the highlight for me. Beautiful views and a nice crowd. Get there early after work for a seat, or you’ll be standing the whole time.

Do NOT stay here!!! Stayed there last night 5÷31÷16 on the 7^th floor and I have bed bug bites all over my body!!! Stay AWAY!!!

Love this Hotel! The best thing about is it Salvation Taco to eat at in their lobby!
Roof bar is hopping on the weekend. Great place that’s not too expensive to stay at.
Rooms are clean but tiny not much needed for a couple of nights to enjoy NYC!

Affordable and nice… right at midtown east side… clean and comfy I would say, room is a lil bit small even for a queen pod

I’ve stayed here at least 5x before. Very convenient, walking distance to grand central. Some good restaurants nearby. Room is very small though but if you don’t mind, it’s perfect. Always ask if the rate you’re getting is the best one and they are willing to adjust it so you get the best available rate.

Pod 39 is your choice if you don’t mind staying in a small room, plan on exploring the city all day, and want to save some money all at the same time.
About 4 years ago, I stayed at Pod 51, and it’s pretty much the same hotel, just in a different location.
My boyfriend and I came to NYC for a short vacay and ended up picking this hotel because it was one of the cheapest hotels on
and is in a pretty good location that looked safe and most of all clean. We booked the bunk pod, which is a bunk bed in a single pod room. I was terrified of booking the room at first because of my fear of how small this room really would be. But I decided to take the risk because we saved a lot of money going for the bunk pod rather than a queen or king pod. Why pay so much for a room in NYC, especially if you’re not going to be there most of the time. We were gone everyday from 8am to at least 7−10pm. Buuuut I wouldn’t say the bunk pods are ideal for couples, I would recommend them more for friends, but if your a couple that doesn’t care like us, then go for it!
The bunk pod really wasn’t that bad. The room had a bunk bed, two tv’s (one for each, on the top and bottom bed), a desk, a rack and drawer (for clothes), a full length mirror, and of course the bathroom. The bathroom was a lot bigger than I expected, the only thing I didn’t like about it was the sliding glass frosted door, no privacy man! There’s absolutely no view, unless seeing into another person’s hotel room is your hobby, and the lighting sorta sucks, and that’s coming from a girl who loves dimmer yellow lighting haha. But honestly, my boyfriend and I managed, there was enough space for us to have our own «section» to throw our luggage and just lay everything out.
As for the staff and service, the people at the front desk were nice and so were the bag boys who took our luggage when we arrived early and left late. There’s a concierge in the front and three elevators. There’s a bar in the back of the first floor and a taco restaurant to the left side of the front entrance. We didn’t have time to check either of those places out, but I assume they’re worth checking out because those places were poppin’ Saturday night.
And of course, Pod 39’s rooftop bar, which we also did have time for haha. But from all the pictures I’ve seen, it’s looks fun and a great place to get a beautiful view of the city, especially at night.
I would highly recommend this place, it’s only a couple of blocks away from Grand Central station, easy subway access FTW!, and a couple of blocks from Bryant Park and the New York Public Library. Worth the stay if you want to save money in the city!

We booked Pod39 for a pretty good price through a discount website and we knew the room was going to be small, but I don’t think we realized just how small. We estimated our room to be a total of 75 square feet, bathroom and all. It fit a full/​queen size bed pushed up against the back wall and a side wall. At the foot of the bed, behind the door when it was open, was a place to hang some clothes, a safe and a luggage rack. The problem with the luggage rack was you couldn’t open your luggage while it was on the rack because of the safe above it, and it really only held a small carry on. Next to the bed was a small desk (which also served as a nightstand) with a chair. I ended up turning the chair around and using that as luggage rack since it was more functional. The bathroom was small, but ok. The door/​wall to the bathroom was glass and it was hardly frosted, so there was no privacy. There was a drawer for clothes under the bed, but it was stuck so we had to live out of our suitcases.
The room was very, very clean which was what was most important to us. The maids forgot to leave us towels one day, and someone brought them up within 5 minutes of us calling down and requesting them. The staff was always nice and helpful. The hotel is in a great location. We were able to get pretty much everywhere we wanted to by walking 15 minutes or getting in a taxi.
There’s a rooftop bar at the top of the hotel, which was pretty awesome and a selling point to staying here when the weather’s nice. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel, salvation taco, and people from the restaurant can request to go up to the rooftop, but they have to wait in line. If you’re staying at the hotel, you can access the rooftop without having to wait. The rooftop has nice views of the city and is a nice place to hang out and get a drink before you go out for the night.
Overall I’m giving this hotel 4 stars because of the cleanliness, location and service. I think if you really hunt, you can probably find a decent hotel for what we paid with a bit of a bigger room, but if you’re prepared for a pod, I think you’ll like this place.

I was supposed to write a review more than one month ago but i totally forgot. So, the place was clean, nice and convenient for my friend and I. We were hardly in the hotel so having a big place was not a Plus for us. We liked the room. It was comfortable enough to sleep in. They cleaned and did our beds every day (although am so used to doing mine at home that i did it here too). My friend left a note asking for more shampoo and they were nice enough to leave more for her. That part of their service was great! However, the day we arrived the receptionist was quite rude and we felt very un welcomed. I am 99% sure her name
was Maria. A part of me felt like we were sort of look down on because we were Latinas. Our plane arrived at 6:00am and check in time was 3:00pm. We weren’t sure how to proceed since most of the places we’ve stayed in have earlier check in times and our planes usually arrive after check in time. Anyway, we got to the hotel at about 8:00am. We came in and said hey we have a reservation. She gave us attitude and said to sit down and wait that they will call us so they could take our luggage. Not long after a white couple walked in, and left their luggage with them. I felt so bad. I was embarrassed but then i was upset. We come in get attitude and are asked to sit. They come in, they attitude and tone are different and the luggage is immediately taken. I had to go tell her if they could take the luggage. If i wouldn’t have gone up to them I would have sat there for hours. Saddens me. Ugh. Other than that the receptionist (guy) the next day was nice. The Bar comes in handy. Good place just wish that employee would have been more welcoming.

Had a work party in the rooftop area. Great view, and the fish was amazing. We had a semi private, unobstructed view of the city. The staff was very attentive. We felt like we were on vacation! Will definitely visit again.

At the top of the Pod 39 hotel is one of the most beautiful rooftop bars that I’ve been. Through beautiful archways and columns you can see partially obstructed views of both the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. No, it doesn’t give you the clear panoramic views that other places do, but the bar itself is so gorgeous. I could see this being a place for photoshoots and the like.
Sadly, this place gets absolutely packed so it can be a hassle hanging out here, fighting for space and drinks. No fault of the bartender though, the woman is a beast at cranking out drinks at lightning speed. They have a very limited selection of beverages though, so observe the bottles displayed behind the bar. That’s literally their menu. One thing they do well are Micheladas, so yummy.
And hey, when the crowds become too unbearable, you can always go back downstairs for some ping pong and tacos from Salvation Taco.

It was my second time at the POD 39 Hotel. And I liked it!
Pros:
— Budget friendly
— Amazing location in Murray Hill (steps to Grand Central, in walking distance from all the attractions, quiet yet not a dead end).
— Roof top view! Must visit! Best location to take a shot of the Empire State building and New York skyline. In summer there is a bar working at night.
— Friedly stuff and promt check-​in/​check-​out.
— Interior: recently renovated, contemporary design, very New York — ish with subway tiles and other modern kicks.
— WiFi signal is good. Also, there are like 5 iPads available for guests to use in the lobby.
— Clean!
— Personal thermostat in each room. Very important cause I like to sleep in rather cool environment year round.
Cons:
— The room I got that time (320) was very cosy but the bathroom requires either deep cleaning or some renovation. There is mould on bathroom sealant and inside the mirror. Not critical but rather unpleasant.
— The sheets on the bed had a couple of holes, not huge but still noticable. Another issue for me was the «blanket». It was just simple sheet with cover on top. Not the most sanitary approach cause they probably do not change cover after each guest.
But all in all it is a very nice place! Worth the money. I would definetly recommend it for modest travelers who value clean and functional enviroment and location.
Be prepared to have $ 40 security deposit hold on your card.

The price gave me pause at first but there’s nothing hood or low budget about this place. What they advertise is exactly what you get. Stayed here with my doggie for over a month and they put us at the end of the hall with only one neighbor so the doggie didn’t bark at every passerby.
–Very clean!
–Thick walls.
–Nice food and drink well into the night.
–Nice and knowledgeable people work here.
–Comfy n Cozy.
–Good accommodations at an affordable price.

Pod is everything it tries to be. Affordable and making small stylish. For a NYC hotel it was so cheap and the room was small but workable. The bathroom had a frosted glass so you could do whatever you needed without feeling weird. A small nightstand pulled out with a plug underneath for my cell charger. Under the bed was designated as storage space. Let’s be real, when you go to NYC you’re not looking to be in your room, you’re looking to see the city. This works so much. Didn’t make it to breakfast in the morning but plenty of places within a block to get breakfast, as well as late night eats. Perfect and within walking distance to most attractions without feeling super touristy.

Pod is a perfect option for when you’d rather spend your money doing things in the city than on a more spacious hotel room. With what I saved on my hotel room, I felt OK splurging on a really nice seat for a musical I wanted to see, even though I was on a budget. If you plan to hang out in the room, you won’t be happy at Pod. But if your plan is to, as the saying goes, «Sh*t, shower and sleep,» you’ll be good to go!
Rather than thinking of it as a hotel room, it’s better to think of it as a sleeping car on a train, or your half of a very small dorm room. I was traveling alone, but booked a twin bunk room, thinking I’d use the top bunk for storage. (This proved to be a wise plan.) The door opens to the foot of bed. Step into the room and take one step to your left and you’re in the bathroom. So, yeah, it’s tight quarters. There was maybe 2.5′ next to the bed, with small desk/​chair at the head of the bed, and 4′ at the foot of the bed with a luggage valet and a clothes bar.
For as small a the room was, it was smartly laid out. Each bunk had a TV mounted to a bar at the foot of the bed, with a tiny «table shelf» for the remote, your phone, etc on the wall her the head of the bed. There was also an outlet and a wall-​mounted light. The desk had a surface-​level outlet, USB and other assorted charging ports. The bathroom was perfectly acceptable. Small sink, spacious shower. As others have said, the bathrooms have a sliding glass door that is only frosted in the middle, so you’ll want to be comfortable in the company of the second person in the room. (Honestly, in this particular room, I really can’t imagine two people. Maybe two kids, with the parents next door in a Queen room?) The bathroom offered nice toiletries and a hair drier. My only complaint was the lack of wash rags. I asked at the front desk and they don’t use them. So, only hand towels and bath towels. But, they happily give you more towels if you want to use a hand towel as a giant wash rag. ;-) The room had a very responsive thermostat.
The rooftop offers a great view and doubles as a bar in the warmer months. I was there in January, so the bar was closed, but the roof was still a lovely place to sit with a coffee and listen to the sounds of the city below.
The downstairs lounge looked like fun, though I mostly skipped it in favor of touring the city … and because, at night, it seemed to be full of 20-​something hipsters, which is not my demographic. ;-)
Age-​wise, it’s clearly skewed to a younger crowd, but over a 4-​day stay I saw people of all ages and a couple of families with kids.
Staff was friendly. Location is great — an easy walk to Grand Central, which will get you most anywhere. (Oh, no coffee in the rooms, but there’s a S’bux one block away.)

I stayed a night here on Friday. Asked to check in a bit early because unfortunately I got to the city a bit earlier than expected. I was checking in after New Years Eve; so of course there was a bit of a wait for early check in, but I got checked in at 2 pm which I appreciated.
When you walk into the hotel, it looks completely different than I had expected. I actually told my friend «You sure we’re at the right place?» I mean this in a good way, from the reviews I’ve read before getting there I expected a little rinky dink hotel with very small rooms (I wasn’t expecting much at all.) To my surprise it was really nice for a low-​budget hotel! The lobby smelled so good. The Rooftop Bar was closed but the view was AMAZING at night and in general. I got to get some great pictures on New Years Eve! Unfortunately I didn’t get to try the Taco place attached to the restaurant :(Maybe next time.
As for the room, I was genuinely impressed! We got upgraded to a Queen Pod from a single pod. It’s really not that small if you’re going to be in and out of your room. It was so cute! The shower was AMAZING! It’s not the Ritz but it’s certainly not your Motel 6 either. I would definitely stay again! Thanks Pod 39!
EDIT: I forgot about the lounge on the lobby level, they have ping pong & drinks! It’s very cute in there and I love the vibe. :)

Hotel muito bem localizado, próximo ao Grand Central Terminal. Pra quem quer ficar próximo ao metrô em Manhattan e pagar um pouco menos por hospedagem esse é o local.
O quarto realmente é pequeno, mas aconchegante, limpo, o atendimento de todos os funcionários foi ótimo. Não tenho do que reclamar.
O hotel ainda possui um bar mexicano muito bonito e um rooftop com uma vista espetacular.
Recomendo.

Located about 10 minutes from Grand Central, and several other subway entries, if you are going to NYC to see the city, then the Pod 39 offers the perfect compromise between price, convenience, space and location. Being a POD, which describes the size, these are really meant to simply shower, sleep and then go see the city. The rooms were functional and the shower and bath areas are well executed. They have a sliding barn style glass door which was frosted in the lower regions to afford a nice degree of privacy of when closed while also not cramping the room. The shower is as a rain-​style and the knobs or controls are based on the single «white» capped knob which regulates both the hot and cold water mixing.
The rooms were impeccably clean, the bed was comfortable and you have full control of the thermostat which can quickly shift the temps as needed. Recommended if you want to visit the city, and not the room.

I enjoyed my stay at Pod 39. It’s in a great location near the office I was interviewing at and steps from many eateries. If I had more time, I would’ve checked out the rooftop bar and adjacent taco place, but I was pleased with just the amenities. The room was minimalist but cute in a «budget» way, but I still liked the look. The receptionist and staff were all friendly and very helpful. I stored my luggage there after check out and even worked remotely off the wifi in the hotel lobby.
One con I had was that my room’s windows barely let in any light. Perhaps this was the location of the room, but it was dim and a little unpleasant.

Hotel estranho… sem frigobar no quarto, quando precisei resfriar uma garrafa de champagne o hotel não me ajudou em nada (nao forneciam gelo, não forneciam indicação de onde conseguir gelo)… Por duas noites, tive de escutar a sirene de incêndio do hotel soar em todos os quartos (ja estava dormindo) e depois pedirem desculpas porque «alguém» puxou o alarme. Banheiros do térreo não possuem agua quente (em uma cidade que bate –17°C). O quarto é minúsculo mesmo levando o nome de queen, mas isso é esperado em NYC onde hospedagem com espaco é complicado. Melhor é usar o airbnb e alugarum aptodo que ficar nesse hotel.

Un hotel accesible, pero con sus contras. Por un lado, las habitaciones singles tienen un tamaño aproximadamente 20% mayor que un placard argentino standard. Micro mínimas, no hay ni siquiera lugar donde colgar una camisa o una campera. La solución? Comprar perchas baratas en algún Duane Reade, usar y descartar q la hora de empacar. Termine colgando camisas del televisor, pero en mi mente gané.
El lobby del hotel es súper moderno, lo cual contrasta con la realidad de las habitaciones y del resto de la propuesta. A la izquierda del lobby hay un resto mexicano de dudosa calidad, y en el último piso hay un rooftop con una vista espectacular (el hotel esta a dos cuadras del Chrysler Building), pero que durante el otoño y el invierno funciona o no dependiendo del clima y del ánimo de los administradores. Es una buena opción por Midtown, pero en mi opinión sobre tiene mas contras que pros. Mejor Airbnb.

This hotel is one of the best things to happen to the hotel scene in NYC in ages. They are located about 10 minutes walk from Grand Central Station, convenient to Lexington Ave and the surrounding neighborhoods. The neighborhood itself is pretty nice, not sketchy so no worries about walking around late at night so long as you use common sense.
The rooms come in several different sizes (called Pods), with the name dictating the size of the bed in the room. Full Pod has a full size bed, Queen has a queen size, half Pod has a twin bed, etc. There are some rooms with bunk beds also. Each room has a bathroom with a shower, rainfall showerheads with amazing water pressure. Each room has flat screen TV, numerous charging options (plugs, USB ports), and audio visual hookups if you bought your laptop. There is a safe and a clothing rack. The two room types I stayed in (queen Pod and bunk Pod) did not have closets, not sure if the larger rooms might. There is a seasonal rooftop bar and a common room with a bar, couches, tables, and two ping pong tables (glassed off from the main room). In the morning they have light breakfast food for sale, in the evening the neighboring Salvation Taco uses the room for extra patron seating.
If the name hasn’t clued you in, they are SMALL rooms. The hotel is designed for people who want a clean, comfortable place to sleep at a reasonable price. If you are a person who likes suite sized rooms and you hang out in your hotel room for long periods of time, you might not find this to be your cup of tea. If you bring casket sized suitcases you might be a bit cramped also.
The staff is very helpful. They are flexible with arrival times and cancelations if you give them enough notice. The staff is very knowledgeable with the local area and the concierge can help you obtain tickets etc. I have stayed here for $ 99 per night both times I have been here. The first time I booked several weeks in advance, the other time I booked 5 days before. The prices do go up as the availability goes down so do try to book ahead if you can.

Cooles, stylisches Hotel in Midtown. Zimmer und Bad absolut sauber und auf den Betten schläft es sich sehr gut. Ohrstöpsel sind zu empfehlen, da es– wie überall in Manhatten– auch nachts recht laut ist.
Einziges kleines Manko: Die Zimmer sind winzig, aber damit lässt sich leben.
Definitiv auch das nächste Mal in New York im Pod39!

Hippes Hotel mitten in Manhattan. 5 Minuten Zur Grand Central. Rooftop Ausblick unbeschreiblich. Frühstück billig und lecker. Zimmer sehr Klein aber Sauber und modern. Fazit: perfekt für NYC
