I had an appointment for haircut made a month prior with Tracy.
I commute in from Jersey especially for the occasion. I arrived with great expectation as it was a birthday gift from my husband.
I walk up… entire place is empty!!!
No fixtures… nothing.
No one even bothered to call me and tell me not to come in from Jersey, as they were closed/​closing.
I truly couldn’t believe it… thought maybe I was on candid camera or something.
Totally ruined my entire birthday… I never got the haircut I was looking forward to… hadda wander the city for 1.5 hours as my husband had booked a massage elsewhere.
A truly miserable experience all around

I loved the ladies at the Parlour Nolita. They were fun, super polite, and I had a great experience.
That being said, this review is about the service I received. I bought a $ 35 Groupon valued for a $ 70 mani pedi. When I arrived the ambiance was beautiful; Tuscan inspired pedicure tubs, hot tea, etc.
I questioned why the mani pedi was so expensive, the nail technicians said that the products and experience are worth the price. If we’re talking about the experience I would give it an A++.
The 3 stars rating comes from how my nails looked 2 days after my manicure. They were all mostly chipped. I think it was their polish that wasn’t too great. I will be coming back though, I had a wonderful experience. But I’ll definitely bring my own polish.

Absolutely amazing and they do not rush you. Unfortunately I had to rush them but I will definitely be back! Absolutely loved this place and their accuracy and commitment to detail. The girls that work there are very meticulous and make sure there customers are happy.
I was in a bit of a rush so do not go here unless you have time. Also recommended that you have an appointment! Great nail service

This is definitely the worst manicure experience in the past one year. I waited for 40min before getting my manicure start and paid 50 bucks in total to get the French gel. After 4 days, it’s started to chip so badly. The entire gel on 2 fingers chipped completely after 5 days. I spent 1 hour at least to get them down not to mention the money I paid. So disappoint. I would not recommend a gel manicure

I came here last Friday night after my regular nail salon didn’t have any openings. I’m so glad I found this place! I have never had a better manicure. I will definitely be coming back.
It’s been a little over a week, and my manicure still looks great. There are no chips, and there is hardly any wear on the edges of my nails. I love the shape of my nails; I broke one of my nails earlier in the day, and Shawn was able to fix it seamlessly.
I had such a great experience at the Parlour Nolita. Shawn, Tracy, and I spoke the whole time, and I had a great time.

I went back to The Parlour Nolita last night for a gel manicure, and Shawn (the owner) did an amazing job! She really took her time to clean and shape my nails and cuticles before applying the gel polish. They have such a huge selection of gel and shellac polish colors (the most I’ve seen), including cool metallics and glitter. I went with a dark navy, and Shawn applied the polish perfectly. The best part was, I was in and out in exactly 30 minutes. I highly recommend!

It’s so unprofessional for a business to advertise business hours they don’t follow. I’ve came on multiple occasions to a closed nail salon. The only time I’ve been services was when I came with my friend. She told me The Parlour was a gem so I gave it a shot.
My friend was serviced by a sweet lady with bangs. I don’t remember her name but her art is AMAZING. I was taken care of by a tall red head. She didn’t give me her name but her massages are to die for!
Sad. Their services were perf I just can’t deal with the lack of consistency.

The sweetest service and a relaxed weekend vibe, she calls me darling and makes my hands jive! Love this salon, they do hair next door, no doubt in my mind I’ll be a regular for sure!

Great gem! Stopped by yesterday afternoon because I was in the area, and I had a great, calming experience. The décor was very unique and cute.
I got a mani-​pedi and I believe it was Sonia who helped me (I’m terrible at names!), and she was so thorough, she really took her time throughout the entire process. She was friendly without being too talky. She was the only one there, it’s a small business, so I recommend making an appointment to avoid a wait. Either way, it’s totally worth it. (And it’s affordable).
Definitely the best mani-​pedi I’ve ever had, I’m definitely going back there in the near future!

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE NAIL SALON!
My friend from out of town was visiting and I planned a girls day for us where we would spend the day getting pampered. Our last stop was this establishment! :) I figured we would end the day with a BIG BANG at this really cute shop (it’s vintage-​y and girly) that had awesome reviews. Although most reviews were for the hair salon, I saw pictures of the nail salon and found it to be the perfect last impression for my guest. Last minute things came up and I couldn’t get my nails done with her, but I booked a single appointment for a manicure and pedicure on a Monday at 3:30 pm. I dropped her off at the salon right on time and went about my way to take care of something.
I came back an hour later and my friend was STILL getting her nails done. She decided to get a shellac manicure with a regular pedicure and I was SO impressed with the person doing her nails. I think her name was Sonia (black hair, PERFECT winged eyeliner, and red lipstick — def someone you would remember!). Sonia really took her time and pampered my friend. I couldn’t stop hearing her rave about how (these were her exact words)…“this is the best manicure and pedicure I have ever gotten in my life! Look how even she made my nails. I have never seen my nails so even in my life!!” I’m not usually that impressed with nail salons, but DAMN!!! This really was an amazing experience for her. I wish I could have gotten one myself!
It is def on the pricey side, but I think for the price you pay, Sonia really gives you 100% AND your nails will last you a while. My guest had such a positive experience that I’m thinking this would be the perfect place to get giftcards for friends as presents!

I love this salon! Everyone working here is always so pleasant and provides great service. I’ve gotten my nails and hair done and received so many compliments. They use high quality products throughout the salon which I love.
This isn’t a place where you pop in and out. Shawn, the owner, takes special care of all her clients. If it’s busy, you might have to wait a bit (but there is always tea and water while you wait!), but I always feel pampered during my services. Tip: if you come earlier in the morning, there won’t be any wait and you can relax before heading to work.
In essence, I would recommend The Parlour for anyone looking for extra TLC and personalized service. Can’t wait to return!

I’m a big fan of this salon. I got a great haircut here in July and keratin treatment done about a month ago. The owner also has a great Pomeranian named Max. The decour is really cute, and the staff is really fun and sweet.

I came here one Friday afternoon to get a haircut. I made a 3pm appointment and waited for almost an 1 hour. Scott who was my hair stylist explained that he doesn’t like doing a rush job and takes his time. I could see that by the way he did my hair. He took his time to explain the products he was putting in and also listening to how I wanted my hair to be done. The haircut is a bit on the pricer side but it is worth if the hair stylist is nice, listens to you, takes their time, and is engaging. The only downside was the overbooking (which is why I took off the star) of appointments. There was only one «problem» with me leaving the salon and that was me feeling like a diva with my haircut. I got so many compliments, I swear I wanted to make getting a blowout here a weekly habit.

You don’t come to the Parlour Nolita just to get a cut or color. You come home to family. Owner Shawn offers so many services and her personal guarantee. Yes, she is running a business, but this woman loves her job, loves her clients, loves her staff, and is truly determined to make you happy. And the fact that she does a pretty kick ass job doesn’t hurt either.
I have personally received color, simple cut (a trim is truly just a trim — thank you!), and blow out from Shawn, as well as cut and blow out from Tracy.
So stop reading the Unilocal reviews and go get pampered!

I stumbled upon this place and decided to treat myself to a manicure. They had just enough time to accommodate me as a walk in and the girls who worked there were lovely!
Sonia gave me a beautiful and precise gel manicure. They use shellac so maybe that’s why it looks a little different than I’m used to with gel manicures but it isn’t so thick that they look almost like acrylics, it’s much more natural looking.
Had great conversation with Sonia and the two girls who were working there. AND the prices are reasonable! Can’t wait to go back. Here’s hoping that the nails last the better part of the month, that’d be just perfect.

This review is for the COLORING treatment, specifically the balayage. To sum up upon what I will further elaborate…
DO NOT GET A COLORING HERE !!!
I am not faulting the salon’s customer service; the stylists are the sweetest. BUT no matter how nice they are, how cute the store is, or what products are used or sold, the salon falls short at what truly matters — THE RESULTS!
I bought a Lifebooker deal, $ 89 for cut + half balayage coloring + blowout — big mistake!
My horrific experience summarized into a rough timeline:
1:30PM: Appointment time
+ Brought in multiple pictures of the balayage color desired — it was a brown/​blonde natural balayage (see my pictures for details) — no disputes regarding attainability of color.
+ Paid an additional +$ 70 for «full» balayage.
1:30PM-2:15PM
+ Stylist paints on strands.
+ NO foil NOR plastic wrap used to separate balayage strands.
+ Bleach slapped onto random strands and left hanging on face.
2:15PM — 4:15PM
+ NO heat applied to expedite coloring process.
+ Owner comes over at multiple times to check on hair to see if it’s turning blonde (it wasn’t).
+ Comes over again to paint on additional strands, also higher up on head.
+ Owner brings over a different stylist (who was in the middle of working on someone else), tells him to paint additional strands.
+ Owner brings over stylist AGAIN to paint on more strands after berating previous said paint job. very uncomfortable…
4:15PM-8:45PM:
+ Bleach washed out, haircut begins. BUT, notice that hair is not even close to being blonde. it is a dark brown/​red. Immediately raise to owner, who informs «Ok, we can get to that color if you’re willing to be here longer.» — obviously! sunk cost of 4 hours + $ 159 already, let’s finish what I came in here for!
+ *NOTE, unbeknownst to me at this time, only told at point of sale* In order to achieve desired lighter color, would have to pay an additional +$ 60 for ‘gloss’.
+ Gloss lathered onto hair. Wait 2 hours in uncomfortable ass sink seats, waiting for magic to happen…
8:45PM-9:30PM:
+ Nearly closing time and magical fairy dust gloss doesn’t appear to be working…
+ Gloss washed out. balayage strands are RED!
+ Maybe I will get my $ out of the cut? Request bob-​type cut with inside layers, am quickly shut down and told that «inside layers is a made up word.» Ok. FYI — never ask for inside layers here because they do not know how to do it.
Total Cost: $ 300 ($ 89 Lifebooker + $ 70 «Full» Balayage + $ 60 Gloss + $ 60 Tip) for a terribly uneven red highlighting job.
Embarrassed with hair looking like 90’s red highlights 2-​months grown in, I realized that I HAD to get my hair fixed ASAP the next day. So I went to a different salon, &Hair Lounge, that knew the CUT (bob, inside layers) and COLOR (balayage natural blonde) that I desired — and they delivered– no qualms nor questions asked. The sad part is that it cost nearly as much as what I paid at this establishment.
Reached out to Shawn a few days later to give feedback and request a partial refund but of course policy does not allow refunds. She did however offer $ 100 credit for any service of my choice, which I very much appreciate. But if I got food poisoning at a restaurant and the restaurant offered appeasement via a free dinner, would I go back for some more food poisoning? Hell no !!!
Save yourself time + money by going to a different salon that has tried and trusted reviews and pictures of professional colorings. this place most certainly does not!

Holy crap! This owner is straight from the loony bin. If you go here (god forbid you have NO other options in all of NYC), do you really want to deal with an owner like this? An owner who takes personal offense to each negative review and attempts to discredit the writer rather than use the feedback to improve upon the business. Even if I received a full –rather than partial — refund in cash– not credit (from Lifebooker) — I would still write a review based on my experience. Because this is why Unilocal exists. Duh!
Appreciate the lengthy reasoning i.e. excuses for why my and my sister’s hair looked like complete CRAP, however the pictures we both provided do NOT lie!

This review is purely for their balayage service.
I bought two Loot deals on Lifebooker — one for half balayage + haircut and the other for just a haircut. I had never had my hair highlighted or dyed before and I was really excited to finally try it out. I saw that The Parlour Nolita had great Unilocal reviews and it looked so cute, so I decided to give it a try. I really should have looked for more hair reviews and photos…
I went in on Friday, July 3^rd. My appointment started about an hour later than expected due to many client appointments booked at the same time and not enough staff, but seeing as this is a new business and I didn’t have anywhere to be, I was just excited for my first balayage experience. When I sat down to start the process, Shawn (the owner) had to instruct the stylist on how to do the balayage highlighting, and he seemed VERY confused and uncomfortable listening to her direction. I felt uneasy while they were going back and forth on how my hair should be done — this should have been the first red flag. The stylist then proceeded to work on my hair. He didn’t use aluminum foil to separate the highlighted strands, which should have been a 2^nd red flag, but since I wasn’t familiar with how highlights were done, I didn’t think anything of it. Throughout the highlighting process, my hair strands with the bleach kept hitting the sides of my face; I had to ask for a paper towel to wipe the bleach off of my face a few times.
Note: Since the Lifebooker Loot deal was for half balayage only, I was told that I had to pay an extra $ 70 for full balayage.
When the first stylist was done with «painting» the highlights, I was passed off to another employee (one of the receptionists, not even a stylist) to put toner through my hair while my first stylist rushed to another waiting client. The girl was very sweet and nice to talk to, but clearly didn’t know what to do with the toner as Shawn had to yell at her to «use the blond one.»
I then got my cut and style, which was okay, nothing extraordinary (the stylist cutting hair was the only one there so she was very rushed). In total, I spent 6 hours at The Parlour Nolita. But then I got home and saw the back and under layers (see pics). The «balayage» highlights were terrible. It wasn’t just the color (I was going more for brown/​light brown rather than blond), but it was the streakiness and inconsistent nature of the highlights all over my hair. There was no smooth transition into the coloring, which prevented the «natural» look that I was going for. Also, there were NO highlights at the bottom of my hair, only the top. Considering that I paid the extra $ 70 for «full balayage» and hardly received that, it was a waste of my money.
I called Shawn immediately to tell her how unhappy I was and she did say that I could come back the following Monday to get it fixed (they were closed Sat ⁷⁄₄ and Sun ⁷⁄₅). I told her I’d be in at 7am before work to get it fixed. But when I woke up Saturday morning and looked in the mirror again, I knew that I had to get it fixed ASAP. I couldn’t take the chance going to The Parlour Nolita on Monday morning and not having it fixed by 8:30am when I had to head to work. Also, I was embarrassed to go out in public that weekend with my terrible hair.
Luckily, I found a salon open on July 4^th and they were able to fix my hair in 4 hours — to get it corrected, they had to recolor my hair to its original natural color and then redo the balayage. There were at least 2 – 3 people working on my hair at once. The same employees worked on me for all 4 hours. I paid $ 80 for the recolor and $ 220 for the balayage = total was $ 300 to fix my hair.
It’s crazy to think that I could have paid $ 220 to get a GOOD FULL balayage in the first place and I ended up spending about $ 220 to get a bad balayage and subpar haircut ($ 89 for Lifebooker + $ 70 for «full balayage» + tip). Never again will I try to save some money without doing my research.
I know that The Parlour Nolita is still very new, but it was clear that the experience was lacking. I am not faulting the employees; I believe that they need adequate training so that they can be comfortable in any process that they are told to do. Before you advertise and sell services such as balayage, you should provide adequate training to your employees.
I did write to Shawn and ask for a partial refund of the $ 70 extra that I had paid for full balayage (since there were hardly any highlights on the underside and roots of my hair other than the weird blond streak on the underside of my head that you see in the picture). She responded very nicely and said that she understood my dissatisfaction; however due to their company’s policy they are unable to provide a refund. Her email was very nice and genuine, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, I will have to politely decline as I do not feel comfortable going back based on my experience.

Needed a pedicure badly. I was in the neighborhood (one of my favorites) killing time and saw the Unilocal reviews. This place is so cute and calm, happy people work here. I got a spa pedicure with Jules. She’s great at massages. They carry Smith & Cult polish — never heard of it before so we’ll see how it goes. Highly recommended.

This pretty little place just opened in my neighborhood. I walked in for Keratin. And got Scott, who is genuinely invested in his clients’ wellbeing and beauty. Now and long term.:-) It is so unusual to find a hair person who both cares AND is terrific at the job!

Cuteness abounds seriously.
Decided to make an appointment here today (booked online) on a whim after seeing all the great Unilocal reviews and now I get it.
The décor is kind of vintage and a bit girly and totally welcoming and the staff was so sweet to literally walk me next door when I went into the wrong part (there is two separate spaces for hair and nails). And all of their nail polish is a brand I have never heard of (Smith & Cult) but much to my happy surprise it’s 5 free and they legitimately have a ton of colors to choose from! The woman who did my nails was from Argentina and gave me a great manicure with the best smelling lotion.
I also loved that they gave me wine and the woman who I think was the owner was from Madrid was one of the warmest people. Anyone who has read my reviews ever knows my love affair with Spain is a major one so this is always a plus.
Also love that the staff when I paid asked if they could open up my bag so I didn’t ruin my nails.
This place is a true NYC gem.
And did I mention it’s $ 15?! Why yes I will be back.
