The Palace Theatre

Came here for the first time to watch An American in Paris. While I did not like the play, I thought this theatre had great charm and was a great place to see a play. I’ve never been to other theaters in NYC. The bartenders were friendly and I liked the commemorative cup they give with the beer. The staff was also very friendly. I saw there were some empty seats downstairs and I asked if we could sit down there instead of in the second level. They agreed and let us sit downstairs.

We saw an American in Paris & it was simply amazing. The booth where you buy the tickets was professional, fast & courteous. We walked in about an hour before our show, bought tickets waited till they opened the doors 30 mins before the show began. The palace was clean, the staff helpful & the décor was breathtaking. Two downsides snacks & drinks are about ten dollars a pop. Quite pricey. And the bathrooms are for 2 only so make sure to go before because they get crazy busy in the intermission & end.

Not a great theater choice for a very tall person (I am 5’8″ and the seats on the balcony offered very little additional legroom – I was fine but my 6’3″ brother would have been very uncomfortable), but the theater was charming, and the staff was very helpful and kind. An American in Paris was FANTASTIC. The view from the balcony was great.

Very small and intimate theater. Sat orchestra center. Paid way too much. Mezzo be would have been fine and cheaper. Theater is small enough to see the stage just fine.

An American in Paris is a beautiful play. A musical with a fantastic cast of very talented actors & dancers.
The production is superbly executed with wonderful lighting and scenic design. I found it inspiring to watch, listen and experience

Came here to see An American in Paris, and although the musical was amazing, the theater was okay.
I sat in the front row of the balcony, but I would not recommend those seats to anyone. The railing almost completely blocks your view of the stage, so if you want to have a full view, you have to lean forward the entire time, which can put a strain on your back when you watch a 2 and a half hour play. However, this experience was only because I sat in the front row of the balcony, I’m sure the other seats higher up had normal views of the stage.
Also, in general, all of the seats around me offered absolutely no leg room and were really tiny. So the entire time, you are both uncomfortable and really close to whoever is sitting next to you.
Finally, the staff was friendly and helpful, but overall, I give the Palace Theater ³⁄₅ stars.

I saw An American in Paris, and the play was absolutely spectacular!
We had seats on the top balcony, but first row. Upon entering the 3^rd floor, the usher RUDELY told my sister and I to get boosters… But not to anyone else that was walking along with us? Immediately I felt discriminated due to my height. I’m only 5’2 but seriously dude? I looked at him and I’m asked him if he was speaking to me? He said yes, you need a booster. Another usher walked to us and told us don’t worry, we recommend boosters to everyone sitting in the first row, so they can see above the railing. Uhm, ok? Maybe these staff need a bit more training on customer service.
There were no more seat cushions available on the 3^rd floor, so I asked the usher if there were any more in storage, and he said I had to go back to the first floor to get them myself… Excuse me? The play was about to start, and you want me, to walk back to the first floor to get a seat cushion? I’m sorry but as an employee you should ask me where my seats are, go get the damn cushions, and bring them back. OR have more in stock on each floor to accommodate each viewer.
Overall staff on the 3^rd floor were extremely rude, and I definitely let them know I was upset. They need to re-​train their staff on how to give great customer service, and get rid of the older employees who apparently just don’t care anymore.
With such an AMAZING play, they need to have it in a better theatre.
ALSO, I used the seat cushion for the first half of the play and it created the most uncomfortable seating I’ve ever experienced. Plus, the seats have NO leg room, and no arm space, you’re basically sitting arm to arm next to someone, while someone’s stinky feet is touching your head from the back.
Overall, amazing play, terrible theatre and service.

I saw An American in Paris this weekend and it was a nice show. We got balcony seats and we were in row E. We had a good view of the stage surprisingly (I felt discouraged after reading some comments about balcony views). The seats were really close together; if you’re small to medium framed, then you should be fine. It was a gorgeous theater, but I am giving this place 2 stars because I had a terrible experience with a staff member. My friend and I arrived late and when we got to the balcony, a woman hissed at us to wait behind the seats. She grabbed my tickets out of my hands without any warning and I got a small paper cut. After she looked at our tickets, she told us to find our row after the current performance ended and she did not take us there. Fortunately, we chose seats that were at the end of the row so, we figured it out in the dark. I remember when I went to see Matilda a few years ago, I arrived late then too, but the staff members were polite and ushered us to our seats in the dark. It was really disappointing that a staff member could be rude and not so helpful. Maybe you all might have better luck, but don’t go late or else you might end up with a paper cut.

I went to The Palace Theatre in New York City, NY on 8÷4÷2015. It was my 1^st time there. I went to see An American in Paris. My ticket was $ 127.00 face value (but I paid more). There was a lot of dancing in An American in Paris (which was great) but not enough singing for what I expect in a musical. The historic Palace Theatre was wonderful. Plus, I took photos.

As for theater:
The theater is old and the seats are super tight (i’m thin, 130 pounds). The sight lines in the rear mezzanine are challenging, I’m only 5’5 and was constantly trying to peer around. Most people around me changed their seats multiple times. I can deal with this, its an old theater so it is what it is. But the constant musical chairs is SUPER DISTRACTING. Thats not even my main complain. My main complaint is this:
PLEASE DO NOT SELL THE LAYS POTATO CHIPS AT THE BAR! THE BAGS ARE SO NOISY I HAD SUCH A HARD TIME PAYING ATTENTION BECAUSE OF THOSE DAMN CHIP BAGS.
At one point I had to ask the man in front of me to stop. I could even hear someone with chips about 6 rows away. I guess you’d assume that people would be polite enough to finish their chips before the show started/​re-​started but they don’t. PLEASE! stop selling noisy refreshments!!! AWFUL!!! The crunching of the potato chip bags will make you want to get up and leave.

It is an older theater and it shows. Upon entering, there are 2 handicapped restrooms located in the lobby. There was a mad dash for those facilities, handicapped or not. That meant the rest of us had to go down a long flight of stairs to a small facility. Not nearly enough stalls to service a theater of this size. No elevators to reach this facility, so my trek back up the stairs took quite some time. The temperature inside the theater that night was cold and required some type of jacket or sweater. Also, there were unidentifiable metal things sticking out of the floor (maybe the HVAC system) causing most attendees to trip. Fortunately I did not witness any falls.
The seats are not very comfortable with limited leg room. Because of my issues, I did not sit in my assigned/​purchased seat for the second act. Staff was extremely accommodating but the circulation was very poor at the back so i guess I understand why the main floor was sooooooo cold.
In reading the other reviews, I get the feeling this theater made some adjustments for updating, but still can’t service the crowds that attend.

I saw ANNIE my first Broadway show here. I have wanted to see Annie since I was a little girl so naturally I was very excited! Since Palace Theater was my first Broadway experience, I don’t have a lot to compare it too but we had a great time. Our seats were excellent, the bathrooms were clean, and the show was amazing. It really was the, «Holy crap! I am in NYC!» experience.

The show we watched (An American in Paris) was great; this rating has nothing to do with the actual show but more with the theater itself. The theater leaves a lot to be desired. We had balcony seats and were directed to the elevators. Clearly the elevators were not equipped to shuttle everyone to their Mezzanine and Balcony seats in a timely fashion so we followed the sign that said «Balcony» and traveled up the stairs. And boy did we travel up the stairs. What a work out.
Once you’re at the top, there is one female restroom with two stalls. It’s almost impossible to use the restroom during the intermission and make it back to your seat in time. When we were waiting for the restroom, the line snaked down the stairs. The concessions at the balcony seemed to be a well oiled machine (from what I was able to view).
We had first row balcony seats and our view was a bit obstructed from the bar in front of us. We leaned forward so we could see over the bar and were berated by the people behind us that when we moved forward, their view was blocked. There are some theaters I go to where there is no bad seat in the house. Unfortunately for the Palace Theater, we had seemingly bad seats (although I’m sure a lot of people wouldn’t complain about front row Balcony seats) and very rude seat neighbors (a lot of noise, a lot of talking). It did not appear that staff did a lot of policing or monitoring to make sure people were enjoying their show.

Beautiful Vintage Theatre! Seats are not the most comfortable, but the space is very nice.
I treated a friend for her birthday and we went to go see An American in Paris.
We both LOVED the show.
The singing, choreography, costume, (hair and makeup) acting, dancing, storytelling, stage presentations, etc. was all worth a superior standing ovation.
The best musical I’ve seen in a long time.

I came here to see «An American in Paris» after my friend got us rush tickets. The theater itself is right in the heart of Times Square so be ready for a lot of people and crowds.
The staff seems friendly and efficient. They told us to take the elevator up but there was a line so we walked up the stairs. It’s a lot more flights than you realize. I definitely saw afterwards why they recommended the elevators but if you can walk it, do it. Save the elevators for those who really need it.
We sat up in the balcony, which aren’t the greatest views (especially when everyone in front keeps leaning forward) BUT they were definitely worth it for the price to see this show.
The seats are small, like many older theaters in NYC. So be ready for that. May not be fun in the winter if you all have heavy huge coats.
The bathroom upstairs only had two stalls for the women. Very clean though. Small bathroom but better than many I’ve seen in NYC. The bigger bathroom I believe is downstairs. I recommend just going beforehand and holding it through intermission because you’re not getting back to your seat in time.
The theater itself is gorgeous. And when you come out after seeing the show and the sun is down, it’s always amazing to see how bright Times Square is.

Large theatre where the view from the balcony is actually pretty good, though somewhat precarious as the rows are tightly spaced. One misstep and you could fall over the railing, so tread carefully!
Clean ladies BR with an attendant who efficiently expedited us to the correct stalls. Long lines though, so you’ll have better luck at the larger BR on the 1^st floor by the elevators.

It’s beautiful. But geez trying to get into the show was hectic and took forever. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that their location was the main cause but when I entered I saw that it seemed understaffed with only a few attendants there to guide the guests.
Then I was seated. In a chair, that was taller than the people behind me. These are independent chairs not the normal theater chairs you are use to and I had to spend the entire show listening to the people behind me complain. It was SO AWKWARD! Maybe they could cut the legs down and then I wouldn’t feel like I was hated the entire performance.
Help everyone enjoy the show by seat equality.

I visited this theatre to see the play «Holla If ya Hear me» which was a tribute to Tupac Shakur’s music and lyrics. I am so happy I had a complimentary ticket to the show because I didn’t enjoy it.
With complimentary tickets, it usually comes with bad seats and our seats were close to the ceiling. LOL However, the view wasn’t too bad and I am happy we weren’t too close to the stage because the music was too much and too loud for me. The seats weren’t the most comfortable but I made do and made the best of the show.
The theatre was huge and clean. However, during intermission we had to walk down sooo many stairs to get to a restroom it was like a madhouse. The concessional stands were crowded and they didn’t seem to have sufficient staff to move the lines a little quicker. I know its an older theater but I would definitely make sure I had better (lower level) seats if I was actually paying to see a show in this theater.

In the heart of Times Square. Here to see four tops and the temptations. Great show, lighting and the sound was AMAZING!
It’s an OLD theatre with short — steep steps so keep that in mind before you decide to surprise granny with tickets in a mezzanine level. Do you really want to have granny climbing up a large staircase … So… Slowly… and stumbling down those same short– steep steps into her seat in the dark?

The seats are TIGHT so if you’re «healthy» «thick» tall, long (legs) or all about that bass… You’re probably going to be uncomfortable and have your seat changed like a lot of people did.
Don’t feel bad! This theatre is OLD! People were waifs in the olden days!

Haben dort ‘Priscilla — Queen of the Desert’ gesehen. Ein fantastisches Erlebnis, super Show, tolle Musik — ein absolutes Erlebnis! Auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung wert!
