This place provides an important public service to the local neighborhood because it is never, ever closed. holidays, snowpocalypse, 4am in the morning, you name it and they will always come through if you need to go on a late night beer run or pick up some munchies. it is admittedly a little bit more expensive, especially for things like canned food and other non-perishables, toiletries etc. which can be grossly overpriced. but you should be going to duane reade up the street for that stuff. golden food is clutch for that 4am beer run.

We recently visited NYC for the upteenth time, but the first time as honest-to-God tourists. The apartment we rented was on Madison avenue, just down the street from The Golden Food. Our experience was that this place was excellent for what we wanted. A local«grocery» that had the staples for a week long stay. We picked up some paper goods, breakfast and snack foods and we were good to go. Their selection is small, but they have a lot of really good brands and products. I was surprised. While this place is about the size of a convenience store, it’s not that. We were even excited to find that the owner carried some traditional Korean raman that we’ve had problems finding in our neighborhood. Overall a little pricey, but good selection and convenient.

Love this place. It’s a block away from work and they sell freshly chopped fruit: mangoes, pineapples, strawberries, watermelon. The perfect breakfast for the workday. It is a little pricey, but fresh fruit is hard to find at times. Especially since this is chopped, sliced, and skinned… and put in small container. The deli is right next to the morgan hotel. The deli only accepts cash. Charges tax. And there is an atm in it. You can get a mish mash of things from medicine to deli food to light groceries. I think they even have umbrellas. So this place works in a pinch if you need something basic. Hurrah NYC, and its jack of all trade delis!
