Basic dive bar. Not too crowded; no table service; good location; my drink was weak.

Good casual bar to go to. The bar was a little dark, but not unreasonably so. Staff was personable and easy to work with. Definitely a place that could be a go-to spot. I plan on returning multiple times.

Nah. There are way too many bars around west village. This one isn’t particularly amazing or special. Just another bar by the corner. You like the bartender when you become a regular but that’s it. Drinks aren’t bad, $ 6 beer and $ 6 well drinks around the happy hour time frame. It gets quiet loud after 7pm and always crowded and a bit dirty on the wkds.

Saw Paul Reiser here one time and he was pretty steamy. I think this was right after Whiplash so he was thinking the phone would be off the hook with choice roles as «Concerned Parent» blowing him up in the indie film world but the phone wasn’t ringing. He started talking to this bald guy about if his voice was memorable enough or stood out so he could be in Minions 2 but the dude was like«who are you?» Which incensed Paul even more. I tried to but in, hoping maybe Paul would buy me a drink, but I think he saw my angle because right away he used me as the straw man for his Minions 2 argument saying people like me were the reason he couldn’t get«comfortably into the Workhood.» Then he muttered something about Hank Azaria and decided to go homehood. Every day since then, I check gawker worried I’m going to see a negative headline about Paul Reiser.

Love this pub. I find the bar tenders to be great banter, but they’re never all over you. It’s got the feeling of home without feeling like an Oirish bar — much more in the bracket of what pubs are actually like back in the greener place than most o’(excuse me) the others I’ve tried! I’ve been there when impromptu music sessions have broken out, and the regular gigs are held by regulars who actually drink there, which is nice. Thoroughly recommend.

We went here on a very chilly nite in soho. And it turned out to be a nice, cosy place! The girl at the bar, Kelly was so much fun. i asked her for a margarita, she raised her eyebrow and gave me a smile, while hinting«ur clearly in the wrong bar missy». It was all beer downhill here for me, I usually am not a beer person hence first asked for tinis and ritas. She then suggested a very gud IPA, yes my first infact! Bell’s two hearted ale. It was perfect for my taste buds! I think I m gona do this one again surely:) Great place to hangout with friends with some great prices. Al irish, all beer, no food! ;) U can get your own food. Worth the visit:)

This was a favorite haunt in my twenties. Late late nights. Stopped by recently and was relieved to see that not much has changed in the past few years. Great West Village staple.

Randomly stumbled into this place one night after dinner and some drinks. The pub has a nice laid back vibe to it. Friendly bartenders, cheap drinks and good ambience. What’s not to like? Seems like a great hang out spot to have a few drinks and catch up with friends.

Walked into this pub on an early Friday evening. Many other bars around this area was already crowded because of happy hour. When we walked in, we just seated ourselves at an empty table and ordered two Guinness at the bar for $ 5 each. Later on, a busboy/server? came by and whisked the empty glasses away. No muss, no fuss. We also saw people next to us bringing in their own food to munch on. Would definitely come back again to this low-key bar if I’m looking for a quick drink in the busy East Village.

A old friend was back in town, and we needed somewhere to go chill on the night after Christmas. We went to Fat Cat. HAAAA. Wow, THAT was a big mistake. Crowded, crowded, crowded. Though our hearts were set on an evening of drinking while playing ping pong, our group picked an arbitrary direction, walked, and stumbled upon The Four-Faced Liar, which suited our needs perfectly. The music was good, the drinks were cheap enough, it was relatively empty(to our advantage), and we had fun shooting zombie deer and bears via their awesome video game system in the rear. This place simply has a really nice vibe! Plus, it’s proximity to post-drinking food options(Hey, Papaya Dog!) really makes it a great spot for a late night out in the West Village.

Great pub in the Village. After passing on Blind Tiger, which was way too crowded on a late Sunday afternoon, we happened upon this spot. Games were on, but it wasn’t very crowded. Was able to snag a table for our three person crew. While we were there to catch part of the game, it was nice also to have a conversation and easily get drinks. Great draughts, and the bartender made some great Manhattans and martinis.

There are a lot of pubs in the East Village, and I chose this one earlier today(late-afternoon) after stuffing my face at Five Guys and browsing at Bookbook. I ended up here because it seemed quieter than the two pubs closer to the bookstore, and I imagined myself reading my book while sipping a Guinness. Then I started thinking, That’s kinda pretentious, right? The guy who brings a book to a bar and then slowly sips his stout… ugh, don’t be that guy even if you did just buy the book 5 minutes ago. So I ended up getting a Brooklyn Lager and staring out the window.* But back to the bar review. I like it. The bartender was friendly, prices fair, and there was a place for me to sit. I’m not hard to please when it comes to bars, but when you really think about it, this holy trinity is not that easy to come by in Manhattan. Six bucks for a Brooklyn Lager is a good enough price in the city(so I’m learning), and I liked the vibe. It’s cozy. They have TVs for sports, but they’re not so in-your-face that you can’t fade them into the background and have a conversation. The patrons were a good mix and very chill. It seemed like a group of regulars at the bar, talking baseball with the bartender – another positive in my book. Booths and tables were occupied by diverse groups of friends/family having conversations in which they didn’t have to scream to be heard. I didn’t try, on account of I’d just stuffed my face at Five Guys, but I bet they’d let you bring food into the Four-Faced Liar from nearby restaurants. Tacos, tapas, o burritos from across la calle would nicely complement a pint of Yuengling. Barring that, bring quarters for the peanut machine in the corner. I know I’ll be back in the East Village, and I’ll probably end up trying different pubs down there. But I will definitely make it back to the Four-Faced Liar. Holy trinity and all. *Good people watching on W 4th St.

Great local spot to kick back with some coworkers, have a few beers in a low-key spot away from the madness of the Village scene. Bartenders are super friendly(Kerri is the best folks, she’s awesome!), this is a definite must for your after-work happy hours or night on the town.

Average bar in the west village. Been here a few times in the last year or so. The crowd seems to be older than the sister bars(3 sheets and stumble inn). Nothing too spectacular or special to write about honestly. If you’re in the West village bar hopping, this wouldn’t be a bad place to get a drink at or start off the night with.

Great little casual bar! I went with a friend to grab a drink and it was super chill. The drinks are also pretty decently priced so I didn’t feel bad hanging out here on a budget haha. Not much of a college bar scene(which is great if you’re trying to avoid that crowd). A lot of young professionals and the staff were friendly. In definitely going back.

The Four-Faced Liar is awesome if you are looking for several, specific conditions: 1) A laid back place that’s casual, though small 2) Somewhere that won’t rush you and your loud, rowdy friends out 3) Don’t care that it’s cash only 4) Let you order food in and eat your aromatic food without judging you 5) Don’t mind the mixed crowd of young, drunk people and old, slightly tamer though still drunk people If these are all«yes pleases» then by all means, come on down to The Four-Faced Liar, and sip on a cheap, cold beer as you and your friends tear up their couches and tables while fabricating drinking games in the dark corner, and eating taco truck burritos. They’ll welcome ya.

Stopped in for some afternoon drinks on a Saturday before having dinner nearby. This pub is no frills with a laid back atmosphere. Nothing fancy or too unique on tap, however, the bartender gave me the best pour of Guinness I’ve ever had! That more than made up for the lackluster beer selection. I also noticed they served Tito’s vodka, which is always a plus in my book! The hubs and I were able to grab a cozy spot in the corner. The bartender was super nice and very attentive, even while we were tucked away in the corner. Nice neighborhood spot and I will certainly stop in again when I’m in the area.
