The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

The location is very good but the guy who served us seems totally not into it. Also, they don’t decaf coffee after a certain time and won’t make it even if you wait. Even McDonald’s will make it if you wait. Also, The baked goods weren’t that great and the prices on the salads in the refrigerated case seemed high. The bathrooms were gross (see pictures). Good location and inviting from the outside but it really doesn’t live up to its façade. It’s a three star place but deducting a star because the bathroom is the worse we’ve seen outside of Chinatown.

This is the first time I’ve had a coffee here and omg it was soooo good! I ordered the iced caramel latte and it had a really nice, rich flavor. I will definitely come back for more!

Decent food and coffee drinks, adequate service. Only come here if you want dog hair and dander in your food. For some reason, a couple of weekends ago on a Saturday morning, the place had more dogs than the dog run in the park. Dogs running around on retractable leashes, climbing on customers, putting their snouts in the merchandise on the shelves, and so on. Beyond disgusting.

Lady at the counter says they have wifi… I order a drink, then open my laptop to work. Turns out the wifi doesn’t work after all and the lady now says «the wifi is spotty»?!? One star!

We had been shopping and needed a break. We peeked in and saw that there was plenty of seating. We ordered drinks and macaroons. Chris & Tyrell were friendly and patient with us as we took our time going over the menu. My kids enjoyed their white chocolate drinks and my husband and I enjoyed a mocha latte and hot tea. We all enjoyed our dessert. We are ex New Yorkers who enjoy coming to NYC every Christmas vacation week. We will be back.

Oh my. I have never seen such disorganization. About 10 customers were waiting for our coffee/​tea after giving our orders and they were so confused they had no idea who had ordered what. There appears to be a screen where they can monitor the orders but for some reason there was mass confusion.
I don’t know if this is always the case, but it certainly was today, a somewhat busy Saturday afternoon.

Redeemed a Tattle reward from the lost, nonchalant staff for the crumbiest blueberry muffin ever.

Party of two came here to prepare our respective writing pieces prior to attending a poetry open-​mic event nearby. New York City has too many coffee houses/​shops (including Starbucks) but this one has tables and chairs. Their teas are from Harvey & Sons. The Coffee Bean carries my default and favorite hot tea: Jasmine Green Tea. Their Macaron cookie selection is small with limited flavors but gets the job done for $ 2.75 each. One cappuccino for $ 4.45. Pastries are also available. Table seating is minimal available and there is one unisex restroom facility. Service is mediocre.

This crappy rendition of a decent coffee chain is not worthy of the primo real estate it occupies.
I’ve had better coffee at my corner deli and better service at a roadside McDonald’s. I can’t remember encountering a more surly and rude barista in ages. She didn’t bother greeting me when I walked in, even though the place wasn’t busy. When I tried to get her attention by saying «Excuse me» she actually responded with «Yeah?» and was super condescending when I asked a simple question about the ingredients in one of the drinks. After a while a 2^nd barista showed up and she seemed to be slightly less rude to subsequent customers.
To be honest, I came in here to mostly charge my phone while killing some time so I ended up staying against my better judgement, but only out of desperation. The coffee was not brewed well — too acidic — not the quality I remember from my visits to CBTL on the West Coast.
I’m pretty appalled that a place like this can keep on doing business in the Village — it must be for the free Wifi and ample seating since everything else is not up to snuff. Such a bummer that poor renditions of corporations like this are pushing out the better establishments in the nabe.

I came here the other day and I was not pleased with my experience. First are foremost I do not understand why there was only ONE person working Monday morning… I guess coffee isn’t something people drink in the morning?
Anywho, the barista was not pleasant. No hello, no good morning, just — «what did you want.» It was my first time in this establishment and i was already turned off. I ordered a caramel latte and a cinnamon raison bagel w cream cheese and a water. Everything was like 12 dollars, a little pricey. The small cup of cream cheese was a dollar; really??? I can get a large one for like 2 – 3 dollars. OK.
I ordered around 8:42. I know this because I had a bar prep class at 9am. I was in a rush but when i ordered I was the only one there. Because he was the only one there I understand he wanted to get everyone in and out; except me.
Five orders later he finally decided to steam my milk for my latte. Are you kidding? I asked him around 8:53 how much longer — he said almost ready. Then he starts to prepare the rest of the drink. Had i not interrupted him I don’t think i would have been out of there on time.
Then I saw him put vanilla in the drink and i tried to ask to make sure it was mine because I ordered caramel. He gave me a weird look, had a nasty attitude and was like yea it gets vanilla. There was nothing on the description that stated that. I ordered caramel I am unsure where I would have known vanilla comes in the drink. Thank god I’m not allergic to it.
Overall the latte was VERY good, but the service turned me off entirely. Maybe ill try a different location but here, NEVER again. The drink itself deserves 4 or 5 stars, but this spot… nope.

My husband enjoyed the coffee but the bathroom was not cleaned or maintained well. They had just finished mopping when I went in and I could clearly see grim on a black floor. I have always thought the bathroom condition is a good indicator of how all around quality is.

As someone from Los Angeles who likes to visit New York City, I am happy that Coffee Bean is finally in the Big Apple! However, the service at this location is pretty bad. In a single visit, the staff allowed someone to cut in front of me, got my order wrong, and did not offer to heat up my croissant.
These things don’t typically happen at other Coffee Beans, so this location needs some quality control or better management.
The food and drinks are excellent, especially the ice blended drinks. My favorites are the Green Tea and Mocha. So, 5 stars for the food/​location and 1 for the service = 3 average.

being in Manhattan as many know is not so bathroom friendly …

I have been to only one other of this chain and that one is in Jerusalem Israel
ps there is no Unilocal there but that coffee spot is fab (almost the same menu too)

just as I walk in the door a guy runs into the bathroom
maybe he had the same problem as me?
I see a sign says the code for the bathroom is on your receipt
ok so I order a hot tea and a toasted bagel
I have a plan I am stuffed from dinner and heading to a cupcake place
CB&TL was not on my agenda for the evening
the guy who helped me was super nice and friendly
helping me decide my tea choice
lucky fast service and empty bathroom now
I really bought the items for the use of the bathroom
but I will say this… I had such a good memory over come me
sitting with Meir in Jerusalem on Jaffa sipping coffee and eating their apple pie
I handed my food and drink to a possibly homeless guy around the corner

The idiots that work here think that 43 degrees is warm enough to keep the door wide open even though their customers are freezing their asses off. So what if you’re «roasting» behind the counter? The comfort of the customer should be first priority.

It was my first time at any coffee bean and tea leaf shop and the customer service at this location was extremely welcoming. I asked if they had loose teas, which they did and they suggested the best ones.
This place is a decent size to lounge or just get work done.

I love this place.
The customer service is always friendly and helpful.
I love their red velvet hot chocolate when I am having a greedy moment and want to drink my calories. It’s so good and fulfilling.
I also like their tea. I believe it’s $ 2 any size and you get 10% off with your NYU ID. I am always down for a discount.
I get their English Breakfast tea, some type of vanilla tea, and I have got a citrus type from here. All great. Nice and strong how I like my teas.
I believe they have free wifi too. It’s worth stopping by, don’t for get to flash your ID for your discount!

I have never been to a coffee place that plays dance/​electronic music at 9:30 am!!! And SO loud! Yikes!
The coffee and service were good. Nothing exceptional. But this would definitely not be my café if I lived near by…

I’m camping out in a sweet loungey chair enjoying the parade of villagers at the corner of this busy intersection of Bleecker and Macdougal. With my hot chocolate, soy with whipped cream. Mmm. Tastes like winter.
The staff are super friendly.

Pumpkin chai ice blended is the bomb. It tastes just like a pumpkin pie but in an iced drink. Delishh.
Jasmine Dragon Pheonix Pearl Tea Latte is also really yummy. but what a long name it is right? I assure you it is soo worth ordering this long name of a drink though, because the jasmine tea really stands out.
