The Black Sheep is an old school, Irish pub. These are a dying breed nowadays. I’ve been eating lunch there and having after work drinks there for almost 20 years. The food is consistently good and reasonably priced. In fact, it’s lunch specials are one of the best values around. It’s no frills, no fuss, no muss. Just a good solid neighborhood bar. As an aside, during the famous 2003 blackout, these guys did it right. They probably gave away as much beer as they sold. The owner is a solid guy. For the opposite of this behavior, see my review of Pizza 33.

The Black Sheep is a standard pub. That’s it. That’s all there is to it. There’s a bar and bar food. It’s a little grimey looking inside but it fits the whole ambiance. The menu is actually pretty large for a bar with a big selection of burgers, sandwiches, salads, wraps, and finger foods. I had the Dubliner salad and chicken fingers and both were fine, as expected. The bartender was excellent and was really attentive given that she was the only one working the bar and waitressing at the same time. The one thing that deserves a shoutout is the playlist. 90’s music!!!

they offer pitcher specials of shocktop /stella periodically which are nice. if youre doing food, I’d highly recommend the chicken pot pie, or if youre feeling meat, any of their burgers. the staff here is friendly and probably the main reason i come back other than proximity to my apartment. if you live in the neighborhood this is a good place to stop in after work, but i wouldnt suggest going out of the way for it.

Service: Arrived for a football game, and the group ordered a pitcher and glass of wine. I had a mini cupcake about the size of an ice cube I brought in from a prior store. While we were waiting to order, I pulled out the cupcake and the waitress immediately came over and said I could not eat it because they serve food there. Wth. No dessert on the menu but we spent $ 70 there? Waitress never let us finish what we were saying before walking off. She also left my water empty for 20 minutes or more and it wasn’t busy. Food: wings were sub-par, mostly bread. Atmosphere: No real booths. Not a great place to relax or hangout. Skinny bar area. Much better places to watch a game. Overall: Would never return. Bad service, mediocre food, mediocre atmosphere.

No clue why they serve food here. I ordered the nachos and I’m not sure anything on the plate was edible. It was like the cook ran to Duane Reade and grabbed the ingredients. It was horrendous.

Friendly neighborhood bar. Drinks had some lag time but overall not a bad experience. It’s a favorite among the after work crowd

This place is great. Drinks are reasonably priced. Bartenders are friendly and do buybacks. Good menu of standard pub fare. No complaints here.

Just walked past this place while on my way to another place, I did a double take at the name, and I felt a kinship with it, so glancing at my watch and confirming that it was indeed lunch time, I pulled up my pants and walked in. Plenty of space in the bar, very friendly bar staff, the bar is completely covered in coins, under some glass of course, I wonder how much that is all worth? Anyways, it was happy hour so I helped myself to 3 $ draught beers, and decided to order the chicken pot pie, which was going for $ 10 as a lunch special! Good god! If I had only known! It was very very good! Huge billowing canopy of crust on top, what lay beneath the crust I wondered to myself as I began stabbing it with my fork. Hot air released out to reveal… And a beautiful white sauce with peas and lovely chicken breast. I devoured the whole thing before I could even take a pic, which is unusual for me. Oh well, I’ll be back! Make sure to try that chicken pot pie! Best I’ve had in a loooong time!

I absolutely love this place. It’s real cool and laid back plus the service is awesome. They’re very attentive. My next beer is served before the first one is done. Nothing better than that and the food is great.

It’s a cheap place to drop by after work if it’s close by– nothing to make a trip for. The food is mediocre, atmosphere is dark and a bit musky. I just go there for the cheap drinks and buy backs. Music stinks.

Mediocre 80s bar with mediocre 80s music. Terrible service. The place was empty, but the scowling bartender acted like she was doing us a favor by serving us drinks. Before we left I noticed a couple of bored employees waiting in the kitchen for orders, but the bartender never bothered to tell us they had food or gave us a menu. This place is like Cheers, if Cheers was run by a disagreeable female version of Norman Bates.

The décor is a bit outdated. Wings — below average, but lacked flavor and was dull, and had better. We ordered few shots and few beers. Drinks were good, but my beer was not cold. Will not be visiting anytime soon. Sad.

Lovely little Irish bar. My friends and I were served by a cute little bar man Ronan who had us in fits with tales of the motherland. Questionable political viewpoints but he was good«craic». Food was tasty just like the barman and drink is very cheap. Great place for pulling Easy irish men. My friends swear by it. She calls It the horniest bar on the island.

Each time I come here, I like this place more and more. There are a plethora of bars and pubs to choose from on 3rd Avenue but I like the Black Sheep because it is generally quieter and not as crazy(or full of tools) as some of the other bars on «Frat Row.» The bar itself is cool as it is lined with pennies and they usually have little Christmas lights hanging year round. There are at least 6 – 8 televisions and play all the Sunday football games, which is awesome. Of course they have a full bar, but I wish they had a cider on tap like the nearby Bravest. The food is not bad for bar food, and over the course of visiting here for many football games, I’ve tried the nachos(huge and awesome), the wings(good), the mozzarella sticks(YUM!) and the sliders(OK). Pretty standard stuff. Overall, just a great place to chill and have a good convo with friends.

Good food and music, not a huge crowd so it’s a great place to chill. We tried Wharf and Tonic East but both were ridic busy. Had the wings(solid) and the nachos w/chili(very hearty). Would definately hit this place again.

Love this bar! It is my favorite drinking spot in NYC. The first time I ever went was for my bachelor party in February of 2011. I walked in around noon with 3 of my friends. We drank pretty aggressively for 4 hours(beers, shots of Jameson, shots of Patron, etc.), and ran up a bar tab of over $ 300. When I went to pay(we were the only ones in the bar the whole time), the bartender cleared the whole tab!!! We of course left a hefty tip and I have been back many times since. For reviews of some specifics: PRICES: Shots of Jameson are $ 4, Blue Moons are $ 4, Cosmos are $ 5…aka priced very well for a midtown NYC bar. SERVICE: Especially now after we’ve been going back for a while, some of the bartenders know us by name, and pretty much everyone makes a point of saying hi when we walk in. Supreme service, never waiting more than a minute or two for our order, even when the place is jam packed, which it usually is on a Friday or Saturday night. FOOD: Nothing special, regular pub food quality, but again priced well. The Irish bangers are probably my favorite thing on the menu. Definitely recommend going to this place.

Came here a few weekends ago with a bunch of my friends during my friend’s birthday celebration. The weather was pretty crappy outside, so this place wasn’t too crowded. We were able to get a nice corner by ourselves and our server was a nice young Irish woman. There wasn’t the largest selection of beers on tap, but we managed to make do. Why only the 2 star review? As the night progressed, more people came in, and the young woman had to attend to other customers and then a young man came by to attend to us instead. He wasn’t the most attentive, as we were charged twice for drinks that 2 people in our party had paid for before they had left. A shame, since the place was fine otherwise.

Black Sheep is a decent neighborhood pub in Tudor City. Only an OK, standard InBev beer selection(every bar in this city can now boast of Goose Island taps, with its recent acquisition). While the usual Murray Hill/Turtle Bay characters populate the booths, it does have a better neighborhood feel than some places above and below. If you want a lighter dose of Joshua Tree ridiculousness, without the shenanigans but with the same solid music, you can do worse.
