The Barking Zoo

WOW!!! I just ordered some dog food to be delivered and Sara was fantastic. I hope the owners and her manager know how lucky they are to have someone like her!

We get our dog food delivered from The Barking Zoo. They are really flexible and helpful over the phone; if there is a product that they don’t carry in store or a size of a product they don’t currently have in stock, they do their best to order it from their distributors.
I have found that their prices are very reasonable as well.
You can also leave a tip on the credit card for the delivery person, as well as schedule a specific time frame for delivery! So very convenient.

:D this place is packed ~ the only place where I found a treat-​bag after looking in more than 5 stores around!
The staff was nice, some more than others, but definitely a good 1^st experience going there. Looking forward to going back for other Paw-​needs.

How can you not love this place. They know your dog they know your name. They always have the coolest things and the best organic food and treats for your animal children. My dog cosmo who is 7 lbs of fluff drags me here. He can’t walk by without going in. He will stop in front and cry bloody murder he loves this place and he’s right. It’s sensational. They always have a recommendation when he gets fussy and I need to change foods like Natures balance mini bites w duck n lambNf chewy n Stella. They also have frozen raw food in the back also a must for a fussy puppy. It’s not by far cheaper then buying on line but it’s important to support local people and business and my dog is treated like the real house puppy of Chelsea he is. The best part is they keep a file on him so we can stop in on a job and I can just charge his teats even if I didn’t bring my wallet. Support this place. The staff and over are amazing

I’ve been loyal to this place for years, but lately the staff has been crabby and rude, so I have sadly decided to take my business elsewhere. I’m a very friendly person, and I tended to bring my dogs in every other day or so to grab bags of unique treats and talk to the fellow animal lovers behind the counter there (as long as they appeared to be open to convo and have time… I know how annoying it is to be busy and faced with a time sucker), but I’m beginning to think I’m too nice, because as time went on they began to take me less seriously as a paying customer. I went in one day several months ago and needed help with a leash purchase, so I asked the gentleman at the register for his assistance, and he went on to help several people instead of attending to me. I walked out. I went back a few weeks later… I know, the old adage, shame on me… and things went fine for a while (because I was spending a lot of money there). But then a couple weeks ago, I went in at opening time for an urgent need, and the same guy and a young woman who’s often there insisted on listening to their answering machine before helping me. I’m pretty sure every reasonable person would agree that a customer standing in front of you is more important than recorded voices, which can be played at any time. When I did get help, after they’d played the messages twice and started responding to those customers, I was met with a snippy tone that suggested I should hurry up so that the male employee could go get his morning coffee. I hope they read this and realize that niceness should not be mistaken for weakness.

Nice people. A little overpriced.

The owners are super sweet. They post pictures of the neighborhood dogs. There’s always water for the dogs walking by. The prices are reasonable for Chelsea. This was my dogs favorite place to go on his walk home.

OK… so I went to the Barking Zoo because I read an article in the NYT about them getting priced out of Chelsea (as most small business in New York seem to be) and I wanted to support them.
High quality products and reasonable (for Manhattan) prices. Friendly service and they are really thoughtful about the products they stock and sell. They even have a brand of kibble I can’t find anywhere else!
Even though it’s not incredibly convenient for me, I will definitely be going back!

Cool place. Lots of unique products for your four legged friends. Employees are friendly.

I went to Barking Zoo when I first adopted my dog and the sales people are super friendly and helpful. The guy there helped me pick out everything from food to my dog’s bed, to treats, etc. Love this spot for anything dog related — food water bowls, natural treats, dental care, you name it. They also deliver in the area which is great!

The prices might be a bit higher than other neighborhood spots, but you’re getting quality products and everyone is super friendly. Plus any pet store that has a sign on the window that says «We love puppies, that’s why we don’t sell them!» has my business! They are true animal lovers!

Come for the awesome selection of pet products (only the best/​healthiest) and leave with a happy pup!

I travel from Harlem to this store to get the cat food I want. Nice people work here, too.

Awfully rude and overpriced place. Went in this past weekend to find a coat. Had a man hovering over us as though we were going to steal it. Found a coat, but our measurement was off by two inches. Since we live in HK, bringing our dog down in the snow wasn’t an option, so he couldn’t have him try it on there. This store has an asinine return policy. We were only able to get store credit, after we brought the coat back the next day, unused. Of course they had nothing else in our dog’s size, and refused the idea of ordering one in the correct size. Talk about awful customer service.

Yea, things are a little on the pricey side here but it still might be worth a trip just because they have a great selection of natural treats.
I liked it because yes they were overpriced but, at least offering quality products instead of just jacking up prices on normal crap you can buy for a lot less at Petco. So, I bought some chicken breast (think slabs of chicken breast dried, yes, my bullie eats well) treats that were organic, made from free-​range chickens (or so they claim), with no hormones, etc, etc for $ 10. That’s pretty good considering any other organic treats will run you $ 14 and up. Also bought Max your basic rope chew toy for $ 3. I will probably look online for a reasonably durable bed I can stand to look at for less than $ 150 but for the small stuff it’s a cute little shop.
