This Meisner training studio specializes in ALL LEVELS of professional training (beginners are welcomed) via individual short term classes and a full and part time conservatory programs for actors, directors and playwrights looking for careers in the performing arts of Film, Theater, and Television. Individual Classes in: Meisner Technique, Scene Study, Voice & Speech, Foreign Accent reduction, Monologue Workshop, on-Camera Film/TV Audition Technique, Stage Combat/Movement, Shakespeare, Playwriting, Directing, Scene Class, Performance Workshop, and practical experience through performance opportunities with Chelsea Repertory Company and Chelsea Rep LAB. The studio offers a full-time 1-Year Acting For Film & Theater Conservatory, 6-Wk Summer Acting Conservatory, plus a part-time Evening Acting Program conservatory.
History
Established in 1983.
The Acting Studio — New York is an acting conservatory studio of distinction located in the heart of the world-famous New York City theatre district. Studio director, James Price, friend and protégé of legendary acting instructor Sanford Meisner and director of Chelsea Repertory Company, and his professional staff have been training actors since 1983. The studio offers short-term individual classes in acting and other craft-related disciplines in the performing arts, as well as a full-time, 1-Year Acting For Film & Theatre Conservatory and 6-week Summer Acting Conservatory, and a 2-year part-time Evening Acting Program. The programs/classes are designed to train actors, directors and writers who seek careers in the fields of Film, Television and Theatre. With studio training offered in association with Chelsea Repertory Company, and extracurricular acting, directing and playwriting opportunities available to students and alumni through Chelsea Rep LAB sessions and productions.

Business Owner
James Price is the founding Artistic Director of The Acting Studio — New York and Chelsea Repertory Company. Mr. Price majored in theatre at Indiana University and worked as a professional AEA actor before attending and graduating from the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater, to where he later returned as a member of the teaching staff under the tutelage of Mr. Sanford Meisner. Mr. Price has also taught acting at Trinity Rep Conservatory in Providence, RI and has worked as actor, director, teacher, and producer in regional, Off-Off Broadway, stock and college theatres. He continues to actively train and practice with his fellow Studio associates in conjunction with Chelsea Repertory Company where he actively produces, acts and directs.
Mr. Price is featured in several books on acting, among them Stagecraft by Robert Blumenfeld, Legitimate Acting Coaches in New York by Larry Silverberg, and Acting Professionally by James Manos.
