Just had the best sausage, egg & cheese of my life. The bread was crispy on the outside and amazing. And it was only $ 3.50!

An unassuming, bare bones Dominican spot in the middle of an ad agency world. The lunch special(my go-to is white rice, pinto beans, and roasted pork) will make you comatose and the rest of your afternoon will be shot #worthit. If you dine in, expect to leave smelling like all the meats(also #worthit). The eclectic mix of PR biddies and rough and tumble construction guys are all united by their love of hardy meat, beans, and rice. Shout out to the ladies who work there, who always greet you with a smile.

Wandered here after biking down the west side — wanted something non gentrified and this seemed like a great place. Went for one of the house specials-fried chicken(it’s 11 am). So good. Nice people. Hope Tauro doesn’t fall victim to new development …

The issue with this place is that if you dont get here early they run out of food! Shame that when I came there where out of pretty much everything. Not coming back.

Mangu Mangu MANGU. I tried this place for the first time, lives up to the hole-in-the-way stereotype, wonderful hospitality, quick, cheap and delicious. I can’t wait to try more of the menu.

I’ve been coming hear with a buddy of mine at least once a week for the past few months. We both love it here. The food is fast, hot, tasty and affordable. but the best part about this shop is the staff. They are sweetest people around and always know how to make you feel welcome. This to me means more than the food. Hospitality is everything. we always get the lunch specials. Lots or rice and beans with a side of a variety of meats that have either been roasted, baked or stewed. One of my favorites is the shredded beef and the stewed chicken. The fried fish is also great. Never miss out on the fried sweet plantains! Great lunch spot with even greater people.

This place is awesome. The food is homemade and delicious and the owners and staff are so sweet. Its cheap, quick and sitting at the bar is super fun. Its bustling and loud and a perfect place to grab a quick bite.

Everyone who likes their food obviously eats shit sandwiches. I have NEVER, EVER had such disgustingly bland food. The baked chicken didn’t even have a dash of pepper! Everyone even middle American gringos add some type of seasonings to their food. What they’re serving dogs wouldn’t eat. My standards for beans are a bit high but this shit here was so bad! When there isn’t even a single piece of some type of herb in the bean juice that’s a problem. Not a single trace of an onion or a tiny petal from a stalk of cilantro. The«cook» needs to kill his self. He’s a disgrace, I would rather starve.

The closest restaurant to my office, took me about two years to finally try it out(not the healthiest option). A basic hole-in-the-wall establishment with the menu displayed above the counter and some seating along the back. Got the cuban sandwich and fried plantains. The sandwich was big and cheesy, good ingredients, but there was no hot sauce to give it the extra kick. Thankfully I have emergency Sriracha at my desk and was able to use that. As for the plantains, they were overly dry and lacked any real flavor. An okay place for a quick cheap meal, but not itching to go back.

Lots of rice, lots of beans, lots of saucy meat stuff. Occasionally a few vegetables drowning in the same sauce as the meat. Rearrange a few items and call them«specials», and that’s it. Rinse, repeat. Simple. And pretty good value. Lunchtime seemed to draw in a crowd; I would only get takeout. But I would swing by on my way into work for an egg sandwich in the morning. There really weren’t any other places around at the time. The owner seemed friendly enough, and the grill guy was okay. But I would be the only one in there and sometimes it took 10 – 15 minutes – for an egg sandwich. I would even tip a dollar, thinking it would improve service, given that I was a regular. Nope. I don’t habla espanol, but I didn’t think language was a problem… Or was it? I remember on more than one occasion waiting to be acknowledged when a customer would approach the counter, order in Spanish and be served. After the third or fourth time being ignored like that, I stopped going. Now that the Hudson Square area is getting better food choices, and once the major construction projects are wrapped up, I predict this place won’t be around much longer.

The cheef at the bar rocks, I ate here two times and I got my food in less than 2 minutes because of him. Definetly coming back. The food is nice and not expensive.

The service is ok. The location is not great(almost seems hidden). They make their food selection so that it’s enough for that day(hurry up and buy). With that said, if you don’t mind all of that, it’s satisfies my chubby guts. I’ve been having Pernil cravings for awhile and this place makes an amazing dish. I read the reviews about the service so if you have them deliver its not a problem. Yum Yum Yum i’m going to have problems keeping the inches off my man tits(mits for short).

Sophie who? Though quite unassuming when compared to a certain Cuban chain-restaurant, Tauro delivers where it counts. I’ve dipped in for lunch a few times recently, and while its décor/offerings may not necessarily be photogenic, any doubts will be quickly alleviated after one’s first few chews. The pernil is moist, tender, and I can’t imagine the staff here ever letting it go dry. Complemented by the traditional rice and beans, you can’t help but feel that you’ve just been served a platter from ‘la cocina de la abuela.‘ The baked chicken is also worth 4 stars on its own, and will certainly be a part of my lunchtime rotation down in the Soho/Tribeca area. Bonus points for not having a credit card minimum.

This little spot cranks out good Dominican and American food. The décor is very unassuming. You can sit at the counter and watch some Spanish television, grab a table, or order items to go. There are daily specials Monday-Friday but be aware that the most popular ones can go quick. Some of the better dishes I’ve had here was the pollo guisado(chicken stew), oxtail stew, and the Cubano sandwich. If Dominican fare is not your thing, breakfast foods, burgers and deli sandwiches are on the menu as well. It’s a good spot to grab quality food on the cheap in SoHo.

Solid afternoon ending lunches available here. They have a sneaky good Cubano sandwich — add pickles and mustard to kick it up a notch.

Great Dominican and American food. Hudson Square has lunch spots few and far between and Tauro is worth a stop. You can order to go, at the counter, or sit down at a table for full service. Platters range between $ 8 and $ 10 and the amount of food will have you rolling out the door. Rice, beans, and the main dish overflow on your plate. If you aren’t in the mood for the delicious Dominican fare, try a juicy burger and fries.

The«Hudson Square» neighborhood is seriously lacking in lunch options. Tauro makes for a satisfying and affordable choice on those days when the typical salad or sandwich won’t cut it. For an average $ 8 – 9 a platter, the value is great. Most choices come with rice(yellow w/gandules or white) and a side of red or black beans. The portions are generous too(even moreso if you do takeout). The pepper steak is a bit on the salty side, but the meat is still tender and flavorful. The pernil(roasted pork) is my favorite thing on the menu — but everyone else loves it too so try to get your order in early! Certain dishes qualify as «daily specials» — check the menu to figure out what’s available, when. Delivery isn’t that prompt, so I’d recommend picking up or eating in. It’s a very basic, diner-ish establishment with friendly waitresses. Their attitude reinforces the feeling that you’re getting a home-cooked meal. Definitely worth a try for anyone working in the area.

What can i say about this place? One thing that just jumps out is how clean this little«hole in the wall» joint is. Nothing like a couple of fried pork chops with rice and beans… have the morir sonando which loosely translates into«to die dreaming» and you’re set. Hope they can keep their lease, I only live a few blocks away…
