Taoist Tai Chi Society

All the instructors are volunteers and are helpful and nice. Membership is inexpensive and classes schedules are very flexible.

I’ve been a member of the Taoist Tai Chi Society since 1998. If you are interested in trying tai chi I suggest you try it because it’s made a huge difference in my life (whichever form, just get out and do it). This club has a few things I really like — (a) it’s an international club so if you move somewhere /​travel you can often find a club in your area doing the same style, which was a huge benefit for me since I moved 2 years after starting. (b) The style is soft and non-​martial, focused on internal alchemy to improve one’s health. It’s great for any age and will over time transform your body. © as you advance you can learn other forms (sword, saber, lok hup, ba gua), and the process of dual cultivation (mind and body) is there should you choose to want to explore chanting, or more spiritual activities… but the focus on all the early classes is simply learning tai chi.
The New York Club has a great mix of people from all over New York, the teachers are warm and helpful, and the class fees are structured so that you can attend as many classes as you like (several/​week. They have free open houses often, check
