Tan Doris

I sort of like Dr. Tan. She didn’t rush me, and was great to talk to. She was informative, witty, and hella funny. Who wouldn’t love a funny Gyno? Makes that awkward vulnerable moment sans pants and undies much less awkward.
What I DON’T like is the nurse. At least the nurse that was working 2÷15÷16 from 3pm-​430pm (the time in which I was there). She was dismissive and really just didn’t give a F. She would tell me to drop my coat and bag in one section, then tell me to go to another section, but NOT tell me — *hey kitty, you’ve ought to remove your shoes while there’s still a chair under your ass because we’re gonna weigh you and measure your height. Hey kitty, keep your bag with you instead of leaving it at that first table. Hey kitty, now we’re gonna come back and take your blood pressure. Now walk ahead of you into another area, but I’m still not gonna tell you to take or leave your coat and bag until you ask. Ok, take off pants. **pulls curtain slams door**. This stupid b*tch literally thought I was a dog waiting to get my vagina checked. Literally wanted to punch her in the face, and still want to punch her in the face and break her back.

I really like the doctor here but I’ve had moments where when the waits were an hour long even with an appointment so now I just try to come super early before my appointment. She gives good advices & helps a lot. I’ve also had one experience where Doris was absent & there was a substitute but she didn’t know what the hell she was doing. I had this weird thing on my breast & ask if anything was wrong or if it was normal. She was like, «I’m not really sure but I’ll just prescribe you some ointments.»

Dr. Tan is the best. She is a great doctor. Most of the negative reviews are about the staff up front and the wait time etc. All doctors visits require wait time. Thats just how it is. as for the staff– I think they are doing the best they can. Dr. Tan has a ton of patients and they do their best to get everyone in to see her. She also delivers babies so yes there is a possibility she might get called away and not be there! She can definitely be really blunt but I love that. if you are concerned about weight gain because of birth control she will tell you yeah then exercise! hahaha. I love that. she’s like a mom almost– she tells you the truth even when it sucks. But in the end she is a great doctor and she really gets to know her patients if you are a regular. We as women know that these types of visits are not really easy but she talks to you about everything from politics to celebrity gossip and helps you to relax and forget you are even being probed by a stranger lol (kinda). Can’t thank her enough for being my doc for over 10 years!

I try to make an appoint to see dr. tan, but her stuff is very very rude over the phone. so i changed my mind not going to see her plus I read all the reviews about dr. tan, I believed they do have more good md out there. dr. tan if you want you to have more business must train good stuff to bring you more business.

I advise that if you want to see a real doctor, don’t go to this one. The annual check up was only about 10 minutes. The doctor seemed like she was in a rush to go to the next one. I guess money matters to her more than anything else.
The receptionists are really awful. They are rude, uncompromising and inconsiderate. The male at the desk wasn’t helpful at all. I remember trying to get a vaccine and was told that I have a make a deposite, even after I told them several times that I confirmed with insurance company that it’s covered. I even called the insurance company at the office and he refused to talk to me. Even worse, the doctor wouldn’t come out to talk to me directly. At the end, I just left and decided that I will never to go back there.

I met Dr Tan for the first time today and for once found a gynacological exam so easy and pleasant. Imagine that.
The office staff was friendly and I did not have a problem with language.
I willrecomend her to my family.

The first reason I chose this doctor is because of easy appointments and is open on weekends. After reading a couple of mixed reviews i gave it a try. Honestly Dr. Tan is ok and bedside manner is fair. I don’t really have complaints about her but the staffs are so unprofessional and the waiting area is filthy and stinky. Lack of follow with patients after ordering a diagnostic test is a big issue. After they received my report from the diagnostic center they never informed me to discuss about the result. I am the one who actually called the office to find out if they received the result or not. Listen! Appointments must be made to find out about the report. I made an appointment on a weekend to see the report. Here is the worst part when I arrived at the office… the receptionist took my information, reason for visit and she asked me sit and wait. After I waited for almost two hours I found out they forgot about me. While I was sitting in the waiting area I could hear all three receptionists asking each other if anyone knew why I was there and they started laughing behind the reception desk. They did not apologize and had no clue about my visit. The receptionist who took my information was there but she forgot about it completely. I got pissed off and I left the office after I found out I could request a copy of the report by myself at the diagnostic center. I was hoping good news since they never called me with the results. Sadly, the result was actually an exacerbation of the condition compared to the previous test. I couldn’t believe never called me to follow up. How irresponsible this place is. It seems like they don’t care about patients. Now I see why its easy to get appointments. I will not go back again and I will not recommend this place to anyone with this kind of staff. Seriously Dr. Tan needs to train her staff to be more professional if she wants patients to go back to her.

Would NEVER come back here again! nor would I ever ever recommend anyone to come here. Defitnelty had experience places A LOT better than this Gynos office. I’ve mostly been to other Gyno’s uptown but it was too far of a travel for me & time consuming. Since Chinatown has been my home for many years, I decided to give my area a shot. Besides the fact that this place is located right in one of the stinkest market in Chinatown, its actually pretty stinky & dirty up there (in the halls & in the office) as well. NOT a good feeling considering you want to get checked down there.
I needed a last minute appointment & was surprise they could book it for me the next day at 1 & requested specificialy for Doris. BUT THAT WASN’T EVEN NECESSARY! I came in 20 mins earlier & was not even ommited until 2. ABSOLUTLY ridiculous. In that waiting period 3 other ladies have already went ahead of me, knowing for a fact that they defitnetly didn’t make an appointment.
I’ve went up to the desk twice & spoke to this Filipino man (I believe Doris’s husband) & was completely rude & disrespectful. When I went up to speak to him & asked him how much longer I had to wait, he had is back turned to me, turned his head, turned it back; spoke to his associate; then it turned back & said «she will take care of you.» So I sat back down waited for another 15 minutes & noticed the other lady didn’t even do anything. So I went back up & complained to her ask why it was taking so long for the doctor Doris to see me & what was the point of me making an appointment if you guys won’t take me in at my appointed time. She was pretty much speechless & said «just because you made an appointment at 1, doesn’t mean the doctor will see you at one. And Doc. Doris isn’t in today because shes making a delivery so you will see Doc. Lee.»
So not only did I waited for an 1hr &20 mins. The doctor that I specifically requested (found through my health insurances website; & her review was decently good, thus, the reason why I fucking requested her) she wasn’t even there! & they didn’t even notify me. What … the … bitching … fuck.
I only gave them a 1 star just because of Doctor Lee. Although, shes just like many other doctors who do the ocasional chit chat & what not. But nothing special. Take your chances if you want, I probably went in on a bad day, but other clients have posted bad reviews of this place as well. Wish I had seen it sooner.

I don’t know how this woman has a license to practice medicine. When I told her that I was concerned about weight gain as a side effect of the birth control I was taking, she laughed and told me «eat less, exercise more». Follow up regarding test results was horrific. (And the lab tech that drew my blood was wearing cargo shorts and sandals around the office.)
Additionally, the lobby is dirty in an absolutely disgusting way. The picture frames were filthy and crooked. The fish tank looked as though no-​one had cleaned it in weeks. Magazines were strewn about carelessly.
The whole place is a disaster. Avoid at all costs.

I came here because of all the great reviews I found for Doris Tan M.D. She is really amazing once you speak with her. She has wonderful advice.
The only challenging part was making an appointment. The language barrier is really an issue if you don’t speak Cantonese or Mandarin. All her staff is native Chinese and their English is not very good.
I booked an appointment SAME day and very last minute and luckily I brushed up on my Chinese by speaking with them with a little English mixed in here and there but I got through and all my issues were addressed efficiently.

I first saw Dr. Tan when I was 18 yrs old. Unfortunately, due to change of employment and insurance coverage, I did not see her for a long time. Several years later, I finally got to see her again. I know Dr. Tan is always busy and keeping up with her appointments can be a bit difficult but that doesn’t bother me at all. She talks to me like her own daughter and I really like that. She actually delivered my 2^nd baby. I had health issue w/​this pregnancy and Dr. Tan never failed to take care of me.

I personally really like Dr. Tan and her office staff members (particularly Winnie because she is so nice). The wait times can be long because Dr. Tan is very popular, but she is only applying the same amount of patient care to each patient she has. Dr. Tan is so sweet, funny, and has a great memory. She chats with you during your entire session (which really helps to ease the tension in an uncomfortably intimate situation).
Language may be a barrier for some folks as some of the office staff do have heavier accents, but don’t let that deter you from going to a great gyno!

I had ZERO problem with scheduling with Dr Doris Tan’s office. Dr. Tan was super duper sweet to me and made me very comfortable with her. She really spoke to me and didn’t talk down to me at all as some dr’s do. She answered any question I had. She didnt hurry me. She was mad cool in my book. I hate GYN visits but she really made it easier than another other GYN I ever went to. Granted I would prefer some of her staff speak English better but it was okay. There is a slight communication gap between me and some of the staff and even a gap between staff but it’s okay they straightened things in seconds. Location is convenient for me in Chinatown. It’s crazily located in the middle of the busiest fish market location on Mott St. Now that they opened grocery stores there… it’s worse but whatevas. It’s Chinatown.

Highly unprofessional. When I called to make an appointment for my mom on June 30, 2011, Dr. Doris Tan’s office instructed us to show up on July 3, 2011 at 3:30 PM. Additionally, the girl at her office told me to call my mom’s insurance provider to inform them of the upcoming appointment and to input Dr. Tan’s name in their files. When I called the insurance provider, the representative told me that it was unnecessary to add the doctor to the insurance records. Furthermore, when my mom, my sister and I showed up at Dr. Tan’s office on Sunday at 3:30 PM, the man at the receptionist’s desk told us that their office closes at 3:00. He couldn’t and wouldn’t explain why their people would schedule an appointment for my mom at 3:30 knowing they close half an hour before on Sundays. The man was very rude and unresponsive to our questions. As we were leaving, I asked a couple leaving the doctor’s office if this had ever happened to them. They said «yes,» and that it was a frequent occurrence with this doctor’s staff. I am going to tell my mom’s primary physician (she had referred us to Dr. Tan) about their terrible service, and ask that she NEVER, ever refer Dr. Doris Tan to any of her patients again.
