Talbots

Apparently now that actually close at 7 instead of 9, contrary to Unilocal and their website. I hauled ass to the UWS in heels at 7:05 and they were closed and very smug about it. Aside from matronly and overpriced clothes there are very few in manhattan and they’re basically never open. Avoid. Talbots is super 90’s anyways

On the plus side: great basic quality stuff, the kind you discover you need once your closet is filled with trendy disposables. Like the pima long-​sleeve T shirts, the cords, the nice little cardigans that you can call retro or classic. The sales ladies (they really are all ladies) on the floor are sweet and helpful.
But time stands still in more ways than one. Waited first in line last Sunday watching cashier #1 stare into space while her customer left the counter to get a different size; cashier #2 have a long chat with the toddler grandchild of a customer; and cashier #3 model different sweaters for an indecisive patron. After 15 minutes, I had to split.
Yes, Talbot’s is cozy and cordial, but it’s still in New York and at some point somebody needs to make things happen. Of course I’ll be back.

I really count on Talbot’s for basic items that are good quality and suitable for a youthful 60yr. old. You don’t have to be as «matchy– matchy» as they sometimes show in their displays. You can mix up their good quality basics with more fun stuff.

I’m a huge fan of Talbots. It’s one of the few places left in the city where I can get decent quality fashionable «grown up» clothes for both work and play. At this location, the sales associates are always friendly and helpful, and they really know their merchandise. My only complaint about this store is that it’s smaller than the others I’ve been to and appears to have more petites than regular sizes.

I have to admit, I am biased. I have never had a bad experience at Talbots. They are class al the way. I have been shopping in Talbots for over 20 years and every store I have been in has exception sales staff and good quality merchandise. Yesterday was no exception. The sales staff was helpful. Thank you Talbots!

I wandered in on a day after a recent snowstorm. I had one of the best shopping experiences of my life. I was assisted by Tabots’ in-​store stylist, Tico, in this Upper West Side NYC store. He greeted me warmly. He then expertly and efficiently provided me with an array of items that fit me and coordinated them all together. Tico provided suggestions, accessories, and advice on how to wear the various items. The process was fun, fast, efficient, and I have gotten compliments on the clothing ever since. As a result of his expert assistance, I chose some items and colors that I might not otherwise have done, but they have proven quite flattering and were a great addition to my personal wardrobe. I cannot say enough good things about Tico and his marvelous customer service and great fashion sense.

Not my kind of store normally since I’m nowhere near their usual customer’s age group, but their T-​shirt material felt so nice and soft that I actually bought 4 of them! I still love my H&M and Forever 21, but this just feels so much better on my skin!

I shop at this particular Talbots but my comment is about Talbots in general.
I received in the mail a birthday gift card of 10% off anything I buy in Talbots «for the whole day»!!! The same day, I received from Chico’s a $ 10 gift card. Since I am a member of Chico’s, I also receive an automatic 5% off all my purchases everyday. Now don’t get me wrong. If I have a choice, I’ll take a 10% reduction on anything but in comparison to Chico’s, Talbot’s «gift» is not as attractive. But… and here’s my objection… when Talbot’s touts their gift as something to be utilized the «whole day», it comes across as blatant puffery! Am I dazzled? What? I’m going to spend next Tuesday going in and out and in and out of Talbots for the amazing 10% off? Whoever writes their advertizing copy should get their contempt for the customer under control.

From the days when Ladies existed, the ones with the Alice-​in-​Wonderland hairbands at age 50. Chaste and post-​preppy. Dare I say frumpy?
