The worst customer service I’ve experienced. I asked for a size 7 and the lady threw the box at me. Stuffings from the shoes and plastic wrappings in the box all fell out. She looked at it and just walked away. The mess is still left on the floor.

Horrible customer service. I felt like I was in that scene out of Pretty Woman. I wanted to yell, ‘I have money to spend here!’ The guy couldn’t have cared less about me. There were 3 people ‘working’ and I was the only customer. Yet still he decided to look over his papers for a good 5 minutes before going downstairs and bringing up the wrong pair of boots. ‘These are similar to the ones you wanted.’ Seriously? ‘Well could you please look for the ones I asked for?’ ‘We don’t have them.’ At that point I actually asked, ‘Are you ok? Is something wrong?’ ‘Oh I’m fine.’ He said dripping with attitude. I left and spent $ 200 on a pair of boots at a place that actually wanted my business.

People there are very unfriendly. Not willing to help. Not return things. They sold you broken things first, and claimed that it’s clearance item and don’t either exchange and return for you. When you try to be nice to them, they just said: no I cannot do anything. You should just take your things back. Please leave. It’s extremely ridiculous. Don’t ever shopping in this stores. Actually this area are unfriendly and hostile. Please don’t go there.

Most of the shoes are not real leather and when you return shoes they mail you a check for a refund that takes over a week to get to you. Very poor business.

Ce sont des chaussure avec du style qui est particulier à la marque de Steve :-) personnellement j’aime ce genre de chaussures assez «exclusives» et avec une certaine garantie de né pas les retrouver sur tout le monde… :-)
Il existe une autre boutique de la marque sur la 34^th Street… :-) une boutique a «visiter» si vous passez à Manhattan … :-)

So. I love the selection of shoes here, and have often brought in friends (who are usually visiting from out of town) and/​or recommended styles to friends. I’m at that age where everyone is getting hitched and all gals need shoes when these things happen. Steve Madden was my go-​to gal-​store for fab-​shoes.
Like any good story though, this one takes a massive turn. U ready for this? :)
Act 1:
I ordered a pair of the fawn, patent Emma heels when they were on sale. In the mail, a week later, I get one Emma heel… And something else altogether (so one right shoe, one wrong). I head to the Union Square location and the guy behind the counter orders me one new (correct) shoe.
Act 2:
When the shoe arrives, its clearly been worn. The straps are frayed, the buckle has torn through the shiny, patent leather. So now I have one shiny, new shoe, and one old, nasty, worn-​out shoe.
(Cinderella, babe, man I never got your story, but after this… You and I should get a drink to talk about the MEN who make women’s shoes and the AWFUL job they do!).
Act 3:
Return the shoes. Promised a new pair.
In the mail, couple days later, I receive a pair of used, torn, worn-​out heels. Seriously? Who sends OLD shoes to people who pay for NEW ones? Give me a break!
Act 4:
Days later at the Steve Madden store:
Me: … so, after all that, I’d just like to return them.
Saleswoman: Lemme see… Well, you know the shoes might just come like that.
Me: Come like what?
Saleswoman” Like THAT (pointing to the frayed strap)
Me: You are kidding, right?
Saleswoman: Well, I think –
Me: I think you should put them on.
Saleswoman (staring at me): Excuse me?
Me: PUT them ON. And when your ankle cracks because there is no strap to hold them back as you walk, you let me know what THAT feels like.
(Silence)
Me: Yeah. Didn’t think so.
With so much other competition in town I don’t see the point of giving business to a badly-​managed company. Its New York City! Come on, now. THREE times and you STILL can’t get it right?
(Like I said… I owe Cinderella a drink after this debacle. Some should have told me sooner — its all about the shoes in that story. Its all about the shoes).

I feel a little stupid writing this review because when I entered this store I actually thought this had something to do with the EA Sports Football game for the Xbox 360. I thought I might be able to get some cleats or football inspired footwear here. Basically, I thought it was going to be like Foot Locker.
Well, it ain’t a Foot Locker. That’s for sure. LOL.
There might not be any cleats but there are some spikes — IN PRICES! No, but seriously, although you can get most of these shoes online, or at least shoes that look similar for a lot cheaper, if you are in town for a real New York style shoe shopping experience this could be your store.
The shoes are high quality and made with exceptional materials. I can tell good workmanship when I see it and this is definitely the case here. Quality leather, excellent double and even triple stitching and above average shoe construction. No «cheap» glue or corner cutting here. I asked one salewoman where these shoes were made and she said «Probably Italy» and I can tell you that she isn’t lying. These are fine made European style shoes.
Limited men’s selection but a definite recommend for women.

My daughter has a lovely and gentle friend who had a humiliating experience at this store today that I want to relate. She says…
«The sales people were very nice in the beginning helping me find my style and size. When I asked if I could put the shoes on hold for a day until I got the money from my mother, the salesman took the box from my hands and pointed towards the door without saying anything.»
Okay, if you have a problem with the reliability of teenagers coming back for items placed on hold, make that a policy and explain it. But for a 14 year old girl to be shown to the door without knowing the reason why was pretty upsetting for her. She came away assuming it was her skin color or that she wasn’t dressed fancy enough.

It was OK.
I mean, I suppose it’s nice to be able to SEE the shoes in person before you buy them, but as other reviewers have said, you can get some of the models a lot cheaper online.
I understand the reasons for the markup — it’s NYC and real estate is pricey! However, that doesn’t mean I’m going to fork over extra money if I can help it.
I window shopped, wrote down the shoes my heart was aching for and will probably purchase a pair (or two!) online.

However, for the best deals ALWAYS just visit their internet site. I was bringing back a pair I had purchased online the week before (didn’t fit), was given the Steve Madden inquisition (seems to be par for the course) and then exchanged one pair and returned another.
The exact same pair of boots I had purchased online for $ 79 were $ 149 in the store. I guess I’ll let you do the math but it seems you can order online, almost always get free shipping, avoid Union Square shopping and NOT have to deal with semi-​snotty-​yesterday-​teenagers grilling you on whether you wore your very obviously not-​worn boots out of the house.
Verdict: buy online for the best deals. Use the store if you are out and about or need to return something, but be prepared with your alibi.

I’m surprised at the poor reviews here! I came in looking for a specific pair of boots I’d seen on sale on
. I picked up a pair that I THOUGHT was the pair I’d seen online and saw that it was marked for full-​price. I asked if they price-​matched for sales online. They said the boot was brand new and an in-​store only item but offered me 10% off anyway! So incredibly nice, and really unnecessary. I loved the boots so much but probably would have been able to resist buying them if they hadn’t offered a discount, so it was a good move on their part! The girl who helped me was also extremely friendly, positive, and willing to help as she went back for a few different boots and sizes before I made my decision. I mentioned that there was some shimmer on the black boots I wanted to take and not only did they wait and watch to see if another woman with the same boots in the same size took hers or not, when she DID take them they cleaned my boots with a spray and leather-​protectant.
This was my personal experience with this store, but I have to say Steve Madden stores in general are VERY accommodating. They offer to make orders online for you, and if you find a great deal in-​store (I’ve found basic pumps for 20 bucks here!) but they don’t have them in your size, they’ll order them for you at the same discounted price. I even had an issue with a heel breaking once and they replaced the shoes and shipped them to my house for free!

i had THE WORST experience EVER in a retail store at this location. if you’re miserable and hate your job, QUIT! the manager gave me the worst attitude when i asked to return boots that just didn’t fit. she asked me if i wanted to exchange them and i kindly said no thanks, i just want a refund. right then, her whole attitude, smile, everything changed. being EXTREMELY rude she refused to give me a refund and told me i could only get store credit. seriously, if she was a bit nicer, i would have just let it slide without having to raise my voice etc. i ended up taking my shoes, storming out, and calling stevemadden’s toll free number to file a complaint against her and the entire store.

God forbid you have to return a pair of shoes to this store.
I bought a pair of boots here, but sadly they were a little too snug once I tried them on at home with a cushy pair of socks. Anywho. I took them back to the store hoping for a refund.
Her: So you wore them?
Me: Yes, but I didn’t wear them out of the house. They’re just too small.
Her: They’ll stretch out.
Me: No, they won’t. They’re too small.
Her: Do you want to try it in another size?
Me: No, I want to return them.
Her: (opening the box, inspecting the entire shoe, then looking at me, then back at the shoe) You didn’t wear them out?
Me: I only wore them in my house to try on.
You get the point, but then it gets worse.
Her: You will get back your money in either a check sent to your home or store credit.
Me: That’s wierd.
Her: You paid in cash.
Me: So you don’t give cash back?
Her: We can send a check to your home. It will arrive in 7 – 10 business days, unless you want store credit.
Me: Just send the check.
It was awful. I seriously don’t ever want to see the name Steve on anyone’s shoes ever again.

I must say I love steven/​steve madden shoes. I always shop the Lexington ave location and the customer service is wonderful. I happened to be in the union square area and decided to stop in this location because of the sale sign in the window.
1. There was no greeting upon entry and I had to ask for assistance.
2. I must say the sales associate that did assist me was very nice.
3. The boots that I did decide to get were on sale always a plus
4. The boots weren’t marked so when I asked the associate to please check if that particular boot was on sale she said yes 40% off
5. Upon getting to the register after having to listen to the cashier complain to her co worker about being hungry
6. I was informed by the RUDE cashier that the discount was not 40% but 30%.
7. When I informed her that the associate checked the % and it was 40%off she began to interrogate me. Clearly she thought I was some customer trying to request a bigger discount. She then asked the sales associate who admitted to telling me the boots were 40% off
8. The cashier still wouldn’t honor the 40%
9. I requested to speak to the manager who informed me that yes it was a mistake… KEEP IN MIND THE BOOT WAS NOT MARKED
10. He proceed to tell that if he allowed the 40% off that the company would be losing money???
11.He made sure to tell the cashier to tag the shoe
12. I felt more like a robber than a customer in that very moment
13. After several mins. the manager decided to not lose the «sale» and give the 40%
14. He made sure that I heard him tell the cashier to mark my receipt FINAL SALE
15. Indeed it was a FINAL SALE. I will never shop steve madden/​steven again.
Given the poor way I was treated by the cashier and the manager I felt compelled to write this review. BUYERS BE AWARE!!! Stay away from the union square location. The customer service sucks. Its clear why the «manager» needs to be trained on customer service also.
