These people are amazing, although I only got help from Evans, but you can see how diligently they work on your case. Evans tried to catch me up everyday to update the status and provide very friendly and nice talk/​tips about using ur computer better. Great job

I needed help with a few computer issues and I’m so glad I found SpeedGeek! Yoav and Evans are the best. They are knowledgeable, honest, and overall just want to find a way to help their customers. Additionally, they were transparent about pricing from the get-​go, so there were no surprises. They made the whole process so easy (they’ll even come to your apartment to do the work!). I contacted Yoav a couple of times about the same computer issue. It was with a machine I’d built myself, but I was at my wit’s end trying to fix it when several pieces of hardware suddenly failed without warning. He didn’t have anyone available to help me on-​site at the time, but he was very patient and helpful throughout the process, always responding with suggestions for things that I could try without me ever paying him a dime. He really cares about his service and reputation, so I’d heartily recommend him if you’re considering this kind of service.

One of my recurring bad dreams is that Yoav moves to another country and I am unable fix/​operate ANYTHING IN MY HOME OR OFFICE.

I can’t believe the decency and helpfulness of these guys. As someone new to the city, I could not have asked for or expected customer service like this. Brought in my laptop with a small hardware issue on Wednesday, and was called on Thursday to inform me that the quick repair was done.
The shop was closing at 2PM, but they held the office open until 2:30PM so I could pick it up that day.
No complaints and great rates. Would recommend to anyone in the area and would absolutely disregard that wildcard negative review that found it’s way up there.

Seriously hands down amazing service! Affordable, friendly and goes out of way to solve any and ALL issues. Set up my wireless network, time machine, iPad, iPhone, wireless printing and university email accounts… even got on phone with my cable company and updated versions of OS. On time with thorough and mindful service– highly recommend!

Some things are guaranteed in life: death, taxes and your computer will die while you are in the middle of important work.
There’s not much you can do about the death part – try to be a good human and hope you go to a good place in the end. Taxes: find a great tax accountant to help you keep as much of your money as legally possible or stash your millions (you have millions, don’t you?) in an offshore bank account. What seems far more mystifying is finding a good service to resurrect a dead computer. SpeedGeek is the answer to the latter.
I’m pretty computer savvy and often play tech support for family and friends, but I also know my limits. I’ll admit it – I likely did something stupid to my machine while tweaking some registry issues. One tweak too much and (the kiss of death) I foolishly didn’t back up the original setting. Now my machine would kick me out as soon as I logged in. My best repair attempts failed miserably like Dennis Rodman wearing a wedding dress.
My two goals were – get this sucker working ASAP, and find someone who would come to my home to make it better. A handful of services on Unilocal received stellar reviews so I called/​emailed the top three. Interestingly, no one returned my call. I was feeling like a computer leper but it was probably because Passover was beginning and people were not available. The next day I heard back from Yoav of SpeedGeek. He was out of the country but emailed me and asked for a few additional details to sort out the problem, then arranged for one of his techs to come to my home.
Eric, a friendly guy, arrived at my apartment in Washington Heights a few hours later – much earlier than owner Yoav promised – and got down to work immediately. After trying a variety of rescue methods, he gave me the news I dreaded – he had to do a full reinstall. The pain for me was I had just spent a week migrating data and settings from my old machine and configuring my new system.
Eric offered to set me up to do the backup (it was going to take hours) but I didn’t have a large enough external drive on hand. He determined I knew how to do the backup myself once I got a drive. I backedup up the data and Eric returned on Sunday (yes, Sunday) and got my machine up and running. He also installed an application so SpeedGeek could login remotely (only if I allowed it) if I had a problem, letting a tech diagnose and tweak my machine without being in front of it.
Once I started using my computer, I noticed my keyboard was set to UK English rather than US English. This means some characters typed don’t correspond to the keyboard. I knew how to fix it but couldn’t get the default setting to stick. I emailed Yoav who got back to me (again from out of the country) and offered to login remotely to look at it. Ultimately, I figured out the tweak on my own but I appreciated the effort.
While some other reviewers raved about super cheap rates, I will say what I was charged (a total of $ 180 for the two visits) was very fair but not «cheap.» They did, however, round the time spent on the job down rather than up which encouraged me to give them a full five star rating for the consideration. All in all, SpeedGeek was responsive, professional, and most importantly, they did the job and did it well. I would suggest you use the contact link on their website for your initial communication. I highly recommend you give these guys a holler if you have an injured computer. I will be sure to save them in my contacts for the future – and I’ll be keeping a hard copy of that info… just in case I can’t log into my computer again.

My laptop HD crashed the night before. I did not know whats going on. I called speedy geek at 5pm next day got my laptop to him at 7:30pm and walked out of his office at 9:30 with a new hard drive and a restored laptop.
He is professional, fast and very courteous. Unlike other computer repair places who want to be paid first regardless of their level of service.
Highly recommend this guy.

We first used SpeedGeek to overhaul our network, figure out we weren’t getting what we were paying our Internet service provider for, and then advise us on what to switch to. Cost for home visit and sitting on the phone with my tech provider to force them to admit they’d been gypping us for a year, was quite reasonable.
Then we installed the other cable service — on a Saturday afternoon. It was working when «the cable guy» left — and then nothing.
Yoav responded to my panicked email (kids had Internet-​based homework due on Monday) on a Saturday evening and literally walked me over the phone through trouble-​shooting and resetting up a network that worked AT MIDNIGHT ON SATURDAY NIGHT.
And — this is the kicker, as if I even needed one — he didn’t charge me.
I cannot imagine another tech provider being willing (and cheerful) about doing this.
This guy is like your tech-​savvy cousin — but more good humored about helping you out. His costs are totally reasonable, and he is as accessible as one might ever want.
I am so grateful to Unilocal to helping me find him, and will remain a loyal SpeedGeek customer forevermore!

If you need your computer fixed, SpeedGeek is your company and Yoav is the man.
My wife had my laptop fixed a couple of months ago. I read the reviews on Unilocal for various firms and found SpeedGeek to be the Best. I was not wrong. He was great. He walked my wife through the process and explained what needed to be done. I think it took an hour or so and my baby was working better than ever.
Price point was $ 90 to fix. I felt his rates were very reasonable for this type of work.
He is very busy. I think he is a one man operation so it is a little hard to reach him, even with email and messages. Please wait the wait. He is worth it. Fair. Reasonable. Knowledgeable.

Efficient, thorough, friendly, patient, answered MANY extremely basic questions without laughing at me, drastically rounded DOWN the time he spent on my work (!!), proactively suggested other unrelated solutions and ideas without being asked, was flexible with his time, and provided excellent and fast communication throughout. Offered followup work at no charge! Who does that???
As another reviewer noted, I got the impression his main goal was to SAVE me money and time. Tell me the last time that happened to you with any service, of any kind, anywhere.
I wouldn’t hesitate to return to him or recommend him. One in a million

All I can say is, Yoav was our main IT guy at our small, real estate firm.
None of us really knew what was going on with our computers whenever they malfunctioned, and it was nice to know that I could call Yoav and he’d be there asap.
He also set up our small office server for us, which was very much needed because we desperately needed to share files between computers for all our legal work.

Yoav totally made a confusing computer situation into a smooth and transparent repair process.
He is patient and generous with his time, and you can see that he sincerely cares.
When parts arrived way ahead of when they were expected, he called me to tell me he got the parts, and if I could pick it up that day, he would finish the repair right away. Can’t beat that.
I would completely recommend Yoav. He is great to work with.

So I dropped my computer like the spaz I can be sometimes, and kept getting this grey screen that told me «to call a professional if I kept seeing this grey screen.» Having heard mixed reviews about the standard Geek Squad-​type operations I turned to good old Unilocalers to steer me towards good computer care.
And steer me they did! Yoav is dope ass. I was heading to the area so was able to drop it off within the hour – he knew what was wrong in like two minutes, ordered the part, started recovering what he could from my smashed hard drive, and off I went. Despite my ridiculous schedule (and his) he was extremely accommodating about meeting up so I could have my computer before I went out of town.
He suggested getting a faster, bigger hard drive (a difference of $ 20) and my computer is running AMAAAAZING. Like, better than when it was fresh out of the box and didn’t have 3000 songs and 21 241 909 photos on it. Ok, yes he didn’t invent the processor or anything but he fully unleashed the beast in my computer. Andddd he put in updated Windows software and replaced my ghetto version of another program. Recommend? Hells yes.
Bonus: He looks like Fogell (aka McLovin). WHO DOESN’T LOVE MCLOVIN?

I won’t go into details on what Yoav did for me and my computer issues recently but I will say that he went above and beyond yet again, he’s a real life saver. In an industry full of greedy IT guys trying to get every penny from you for every second they even consider looking at a computer or dishing out advice its refreshing to find someone as helpful as Yoav who doesn’t fit that mold. You really won’t find computer assistance this knowledgeable and reasonable anywhere else so don’t even bother looking. Thanks again Yoav!

Ok, there’s too many things to say about the guy with the hairpiece.
So! Onto the actual service.
Yoav was really awesome to deal with, I just emailed him and he told me to call to make sure he was still there the following day and he wasn’t, which is cool stuff comes up. He was available the next day.
He fixed my computer, put in Windows 7 (thank goodness!) and an antivirus (free of charge). He was really fun to hang out with while he was working on the laptop. He even teased about not eating an atomic fireball. Which I promptly did thereafter.
Pros: cheap, good work, cool to talk to, candy.
Cons: I didn’t get tea cookies! However, candy is a good replacement, so, it evens out. Also, I was really sick when I came, like running a fever, chills, migraine, all the fun stuff. I think I gave him an insane tip on accident. like more than 50% which, if I had that kind of money to spend I wouldn’t have an issue with it, buuut I do. I have college loans. But that’s my fault. I could be wrong though. So in reality, no cons.
Anyhoo. go here, trust me, it’s worth your time and money.

I am very sorry we ever did business with Speedgeek.
I hired Speedgeek a few months ago to restore my system after a hard drive crash. The work was not very good, and my computer has never worked right since then. This has resulted in a billing dispute that will probably end up in Small Claims Court.
