History
Established in 1997.
Manuela M.
Opening a restaurant was always in Manuela’s plans and when the opportunity arose, Manuela borrowed money from family and friends to open Sophie’s Restaurant in downtown Manhattan. The family had decided that Cuban food might be more popular than Peruvian food in New York City. Enter Eduardo Morgado, a Master Cuban Chef — after trying out a few Cuban Chefs, Eduardo passed the test with flying colors. Eduardo was trained in the Hotel Riviera in Havana Cuba and in 1990 immigrated to the United States. Meet the Manager
Tom C.
Manager
Tom Chamberlain is the franchisee for the 45th Street Sophie’s. He has over 25 years of hospitality experience as a hotel general manager in New York City. His education included the University of New Haven, the Cornell Restaurant School, and Harvard Business School.
Between his formal training and his hands-on practical experience he is ideally suited for the fiercely competitive environment in the Manhattan restaurant business.
Alvin Lopez is a partner in this Sophie’s. He has over 20 years in the hospitality field most recently as the General Manager at the Shelburne Murray Hill Hotel where he ran one of the most successful hotel food service and roof top clubs in New York.
Back in 2006 when Tom was getting interested in a Sophie’s franchise it was Alvin who was the driving influence. They look forward to seeing Sophie’s guests every day.
