Skin Spa – Soho

I have been getting waxed at Skin Spa for years now. It is the best place to come and walk out feeling like a million bucks. It’s the best hair removal I’ve experienced and their facials are divine!

Josephina is amazing. She gives an amazing facial. She made sure to do a thorough job cleaning my face and made sure I was leaving refreshed.

Just came back for my second facial and I still love this place! The aestheticians are extremely nice and very careful with your skin’s needs. Last time I had Brittany and today I had Yani — both ladies are wonderful. Rates are reasonable and I always feel like I’m glowing after a session here. Consistency is key with places like these so I’m very happy so far with Skin Spa!

Skin Spa is a very professional establishment and the masseuses are high quality from the one Swedish Massage I received.

I have been coming to Skin Spa soho for 4 years now. Religiously… I’ve tried my share of spas around NYC but finally found this Hidden gem. Kelly is the BEST. There’s a reason she’s always fully booked 3 – 4 weeks out. She’s knowledgeable, never pushy, and gives the best facial. My skin always feel wonderful after a session with her.
And if you need anything else Andrew the manager is always friendly and helpful.
In closing, Skincare is like going to the gym. If you go once a year… You won’t get the result you want :)

I love Skin Spa!!! I’ve been going here for years, have referred a bunch of friends and the aestheticians just get better and better. My newest aesthetician Yani is a Godsend. Waxes are brutal for me each and every time but Yani’s are truly painless. She’s gentle, quick and pretty hilarious.
Yani also does facials, and I’ve never had one– so I plan to make that my next service.

I love the Skin Spa Soho! Every time I have gone, either for a massage or facial, I have had a wonderful experience! The spa is very clean and the service is great. You can’t beat the value of their packages and memberships. I consider this place one of the best kept secrets in NYC. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I originally booked an appointment for a deep tissue massage after running my first marathon — Kurt was awesome and really helped me feel better!
I have sensitive skin, so I am usually very nervous about facials, and extractions in particular due to a horrific experience with my dermatologist. However, Jane and Kelly both did an amazing job and I left with my skin feeling better than ever! They were very gentle yet thorough with extractions. I woke up the next day with noticeably clearer and brighter skin. I now make a point to get one at least once a month.
Andrew and Amanda are rock stars! They could not be nicer or more accommodating every time I call or come in to the spa. It is obvious how much they value their clients and go above and beyond to make sure they’re happy.
I definitely recommend Skin Spa Soho!

I purchased a packaged deal for one of their services. The first time I went I had a so so experience it wasn’t bad nor did it leave an impression on me. The atmosphere is beautiful and they used very hygienic techniques for what they offer. It wasn’t until my second session when Brittany worked with me did I see what was missing the first time. She was very professional and knowledgable. Her techniques cause the least amount of pain out of all the times I received a wax. She made me feel comfortable and now I’m only going back to her.

Joanna has been my aesthetician for about a year. She’s great — thorough, kind, and tranquil. She doesn’t try to up-​sell or push products (but the front desk will, so beware!) and even recommended that I try laser hair removal after noticing some hyper pigmentation on my face from waxing. I highly recommend her!
(Also, if you want to try laser hair removal — I recommend Erase Spa — especially if you have dark skin.)

I’ve done two visits with Skin Spa Soho and am glad I was referred here. I am always very skeptical about places offering different services because I have very sensitive skin. However, I have had different yet great experiences each time I’ve gone for a visit. They also offer discounted packages, have friendly staff and are very clean.

Recently purchased a Groupon for a microdermabrasion after seeing fairly decent reviews for Skin Spa. Called to make an appointment and was told that unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed to use said Groupon because I had been to a Skin Spa location before and Groupon is only for new customers.
I was a bit flabbergasted, as I had no recollection of ever having been to Skin Spa; I told the receptionist that I didnt think I ever had been, and if so, it certainly wasn’t at said location. The receptionist told me that these were the rules and refused to make an appointment for me.
After digging through all of my archived emails, I cannot find myself ever having booked an appointment at Skin Spa and additionally, never for the SoHo location. I also am reading my Groupon voucher and nowhere does it state this rule on the voucher. Really not sure what the deal is but now I am stuck with a useless voucher due to a phantom appointment. Pretty poor customer service and such an odd rule. Disappointing.

I loved my experience there. I purchased the Blemish Blaster package and it did wonders for my face. Actually, one of the first facials I’ve ever had.
Jane was very gentle with the extractions (I’ve heard horror stories about getting this done, but she’s done very well) and the next few days, zero bruises appeared on my face. My face was glowing and my daily routine worked much better than before because of this visit. Face is clear and my blemishes are disappearing.
I will be going again specifically to Jane.
Unfortunately, my second visit wasn’t pleasant. Needless to say, I will be ONLY seeing Jane moving forward when purchasing the blemish blaster.

I have been coming here for years and this is the second time they booked me for an appointment and didn’t actually schedule anything in the system.
The worst part is I had to wait around for a few hours for my appointment time and at the one of arrival they said nothing was scheduled. The scheduler didn’t even accidentally schedule me for the wrong date. She just didn’t put anything in the system. The ineptitude is astonishing.
Disappointing for a service based industry.

I had a swedish massage with aromatherapy groupon. My massage with Ruth was okay. She was very professional and sweet and I felt very comfortable but I have had much better massages… I have been getting massages for years and I have also had a variety, swedish being one of them but this one was just not the same. I didn’t mind my experience with how much I paid for my groupon but I wouldn’t be a happy customer if I had paid full price.
Note: I have also used groupon many times for a lot of different services, and normally if the customer has to pay for the tax it’s included in the groupon but for Skin Spa it was not listed… and yet I had to pay taxes. It was just $ 2 and change so nothing to cause a scene about it… but at least to mention in my review

3 stars cuz I don’t often get facials. It’s a luxury for my pores to get clean and happy. After a Skin Spa regular facial, my face always looks free of blemishes and great tone. I can SEE my nose, minus filaments as explained by Jane.
There’s a comfortable waiting area. Even a K-​cup machine. You can bring your own cups, if you want.

Having just moved here from chill California, I knew I needed to find my new spa sanctuary ASAP. New York can wear on a person, as you all know. A coworker recommended Skin Spa, based on this Groupon deal (2 for 1: Swedish Massage or Facial). I thought, sure, why not, looks chill enough.
WRONG.
Okay seriously, who is the genius who thought having a spa UNDERGROUND with exposed pipes everywhere was a great place for a relaxing experience? I heard the subway rumbling beneath me and heard everything echo down the hall in my tiny appointment room on various occasions. Minus a star for environment. Chandeliers and fur throw blanket be damned.
The customer service at the front desk was plastic at best. Greeted by not so much as a glance, both ladies occupied with a phone or staring at their nails, I didn’t feel welcome at all. I arrived on time for my facial on Monday, and it started at least 10 minutes late. Minus a star for service. I don’t even care if you spent 500 dollars on your manicure, lady.
Now, let me start with the facial.
Please note that I am a total newbie to the facial realm. I have never gotten one, in the over two decades of my life. Call me naïve, but I thought I was supposed to get some chill lotion and cucumbers on my face and maybe some light massaging. You know, like with a towel and bathrobe on, with smooth jazz playing and shit?
Not. Even. Close.
I was lead into a poorly lit dingy-​looking closet room by my esthetician, and she said «Oh, so this is your first time getting a facial huh?» I worriedly replied, «Yep, I have no idea what is going to happen.» I really didn’t. And I was hoping this «professional» would enlighten me, warn me, give me the option to run the fuck out of the room before my face was about to get torn up. No such luck.
Let me paraphrase:
Step 1: crazy-​looking robot machine steamed up my face like a lobster in a pot.
Step 2: get my face cleaned with baby wipes.
Step 3: rub three types of liquid on my face, all anonymous, thanks to my super helpful aesthetician.
Step 4: MOTHERFUCKING EXTRACTION. JESUS CHRIST MY FACE! People. People, please tell me, why, why oh WHY would you ever want to get a needle poked through your pores!!! The aesthetician didn’t even tell me that this would HURT, she just started doing it and she probably saw me physically flinch and she quickly mentioned «So, this is the most unpleasant part of the facial…» NO SHIT!
Let me qualify my reaction by saying I have very thin, fragile, sensitive skin. I’m one of those people who refuses to poke my pimples, no matter how nasty they look, for fear of scarring. You could imagine my horror when this woman spent a good 20 minutes needling my skin. I thought my skin was getting ripped off. Or at least a few holes were being made.
Besides going through hell with this facial, I had the pleasure of being upsold some «Peel Treatment» since my skin was so sensitive and couldn’t stand microdermabrasion. Cool. Now I’m spending more money than I intended, to fix a problem that I literally just got from the service I paid for.
The peel involved leaving another unnamed liquid on my face for what felt like ages, and getting it wiped off. The esthetician did a half-​assed arm and hand massage for a couple minutes – probably to pass the time as my damaged face tried to chill out and stop burning so much.
I left Skin Spa that night feeling stressed out and concerned for my skin.
BUT WAIT! There’s more.
I was already hesitant to come back and utilize the other half of my Groupon for obvious reasons, but I decided to give Skin Spa the benefit of the doubt. Their facials might suck, but Swedish massages are pretty standard procedures… how could you possibly mess that up?
Let me tell you: they did. And, unlike my level of knowledge with facials, I’m actually very familiar with how Swedish massages work and have had plenty of amazing experiences. So, with my standards and expectations high, Skin Spa once again let me down.
Here’s why:
1. The masseuse was brusque and her only words to me were «You’ve had a massage before, right?»
2. She rushed me while I was undressing to get under the massage table’s sheets.
3. Her hands were FREEZING. I’ve never had a therapist who didn’t have warm, inviting hands. Even the lotion she used was cold.
4. My left shoulder blade got wrecked. I don’t know why she fixated on this part of my body, but she was really digging in there. I asked her to lower the pressure and it didn’t really change much.
5. There were tons of little inconsistencies with her technique. I felt my left side worked on more than my right… and I still feel imbalanced now.
I left this massage experience feeling stressed out, tense, and upset. Last time I checked, you’re supposed to tip when you’re happy with a service. I was not, and yet the receptionist pressured me into it anyway.
I am convinced that Skin Spa’s name means that they treat their clients like a bag of skin, and nothing else.

I had 6 Brazilian LHR sessions here, and I’m not thrilled with the results. They told me I could expect about 90 percent of my hair to be gone after 6 sessions, but it’s really more like 40 – 50 percent. I could buy more sessions, but I’m skeptical they will work.
Even though I loved the technician I would regularly see (she made me comfortable and was quick and efficient), on the two occasions I saw other technicians, they seemed to do a more comprehensive job. Both of them touched me up with shaving prior to the laser and just spent more time in general working on stubborn areas. I have a feeling this is partly why I didn’t get the results I expected.
The pros of my experience include super sweet technicians who always made me feel more than comfortable with an awkward and painful procedure. It was also very easy to get appointments and I liked the front desk staff.

I usually don’t leave reviews based on people but I was NOT happy with the receptionist at this place. She checked me into my massage without telling me that I had some problem with my «file». I proceeded to get my massage which was as usual ok nothing spectacular or out of this world. After being covered in almond infused oil (slathered really) I exited my room and returned to the receptionist who started judging me for not having a credit card «on file» and being a groupon user.
So then we had a discussion about my ‘options’ which turned into her sneering things at me and almost to the point where her deep voice was yelling at me. So I said ok fine I don’t like arguing with her and took the best option which she gave me, paid the usual price for a massage that really overall based on the sh1tty customer service was NOT worth that price. And got to give the 3 ladies waiting behind me a nice little show. What customer wants to be in an argument with someone after a massage? Not me that’s for sure!
Relaxed? Nope.
NOT coming back to this location. You shouldn’t either.
