Sing Sing Ave.A

This place is amazing for what it is. Down (literally as all of the private rooms are downstairs) and dirty (again pretty literal as it’s got that sweet dive bar kind of grime going on) karaōke goodness which I loved. I’d love to give it an extra star, but really Sing Sing isn’t that and that’s ok.
This is a fun place for the unpretentious type when you want to belt out a few songs with friends and beer. A group of 5 fit snugly in a singing room and had the drinks flowing. All the required karaōke songs were in play and super easy to find with the ipad and song app system Sing Sing uses. All of the equipment was really good and we got to do our thing. Overall, pretty happy with this spot and will be back. Happy Singing!

I attended a birthday party in the largest private room at this location a few weeks ago and had an amazing time. The bartender and other staff were amazing, the space was dingy but charming, and the songs I wanted to sing were in the book. It may not be as flashy as many of the K-​town karaōke venues, but that makes for a vibe that’s in many ways a lot more like hanging out wit your friends at home (if your home was decked out with black leather sofas that look straight outta an 40 and over sex club. and I mean that in the nicest way).
I had such a good time that I decided to throw my birthday party there as well. I actually reserved a room while I was there!
Terrible idea. The worst way to ring in your 31^st birthday is by getting completely scammed by two of the most incompetent, rude, most definitely high staff members who not only were not able to keep the story straight on how payment would work (I had an idea given my experience at my friend’s party, but they were still giving me the run around and telling me something different each time I asked), would forget to serve drinks or even just leave shots behind the bar while they ran off to do whatever they were doing, and wouldn’t answer my questions about the sound system while they were IN the room with me. Everyone noticed just hot terrible they were… a far cry from the awesome bartender present at my friends party, but I wasn’t bothered by it until I received a bill for 3 hours of room rental in which perhaps 25 people attended throughout the night, but not at the same time, for…
Not a thousand dollars, but not far from it.
I’m furious beyond words and while I do think that this is a great place to throw a party or just sing at the bar, make sure that you do so on a night when the staff is actually attempting to do their job and making the effort to give you a fair bill at the end of the night.

Place is pretty cool, but it’s filled with douchebags that want to sing Adele and Coldplay. Not the fault of the bar, but just be warned.

It’s depressing that Sing Sing is so far from me! I could never get tired of coming here. Had a blast again last night with friends and all the random people there. The bartenders working were awesome! (shout out to Jess for being the most dope bartender in East Village) Its really good to know that they don’t tolerate sloppy drunks. I had never seen someone get kicked out of here until last night. This poor girl was embarrassingly stupid and rude cursing at the bartenders and the security guard. But the night was a success as always. Literally too much fun every time!

I don’t agree with most of these reviews at ALL. I rarely comment on a venue but this was the worst place. The bartenders were drunk and slow and kind of rude. They are more concerned with partying themselves and less about the customers waiting in a cramped space for a drink. There is zero reference or information about karaōke. As happy as I was to get a drink that was majorly over poured with makers mark, I was shocked that anyone gets away with making drinks like that unless they hate the owners. No respect from so many angles.

Perfect place to have a birthday or an event with a large group of people. Be sure to book a room in advance especially if you have a large group.
We had the biggest room downstairs and it accommodated about 25 people. It got hot in the room but the hallway was air conditioned so it was a nice relief after belting out a couple of tunes. For the most part we bought our drinks at the upstairs bar so were werent racking up a hefty bill.
They had a good selections of songs and a IPad like device where we could choose and play the songs. The microphones were good quality as well.
Sing Sing is an all around great time. Definitely one of the best spots in NYC. Perfect spot to start your night.

Karaōke on a Friday night? Sure! $ 2 to sing… bleh. I was a fan of the bartender as they’re really fast and friendly (and, they also really got into some of the songs), but this probably my least favorite karaōke place that I’ve been to in the city. The variety of songs is huge, but the crowd is just completely incoherent. The mics get lost and there’s not really any order to the system. Bartenders do a pretty decent job of passing on a song where there are no singers.

would NOT want to bring a black light into this place. i cannot imagine the new stds you would discover on the walls and benches. place is super fun tho so chill out ok?! service was really accommodating considering my crew was acting all drunk and dumb. will i go back? im here now so yah duh!

My favorite karaōke spot in the city. Can’t rate the rooms; always sit at the bar. Never had a negative experience here, ever. Drinks are always cheap and strong (happy hour ’till 9pm!). Crazy bartender turnover — I’ve never seen the same one twice. If they are unhappy, it doesn’t show. They are generally friendly and attentive; at worst just civil — but never rude! Kindly adjust the pitch of songs that come up in the wrong key; also sometimes comp your songs if you’re a decent singer. Crowd is a good mix and always supportive. Great song selection. Love this place!

The best karaōke in NYC! Fun, great vibes and a good time day or night.

Always stop in on a night out in the EV, and always have a good time. Who doesn’t love cheap drinks and belting out your favorite songs at the top of your lungs without judgement? I usually stay in the bar area with friends and join in singing with the crowd while watching the often crazy characters and their surprising song selections.

This is now the third karaōke place I’ve been to in the city. I think we may have gone with too many people, because we were crammed into what seemed to be the largest room, and after about a half an hour, condensation started appearing on the window on the door due to all the heat we generated. We tried to leave the door open, but understandably they wanted it closed. We were here for about 3 and a half hours, and got plenty of karaōke out of it.
I would come back here with fewer people, because since there were so many of us, in order for everyone to do as many songs as they wanted we ended up being here a long time, and it got expensive.

Shit was stupid. Service was horrible. Weren’t willing to accommodate. What do you want me to do? Your servers were whack! Bartenders up front took FOREVER!!!

This is where I lost my voice from screaming and screeching the lyrics to BackStreet boys and Queen. Don’t judge me for my bad taste in music, I know I have bad taste in music and TV, I am a a reality TV junkie whore after all.
Anyways, this place was only $ 8 a person. We ordered pitchers of beer without knowing the price and somehow got charged $ 100 for about 5 pitchers, so I assume each pitcher is $ 20. The song selection is good, they also have songs in other languages such as Chinese.
The rooms are small and don’t come with leather couches like those in ktown, but for the cheap price its fine. You even have a button to call the waiter so you don’t have to leave the room to get more alcohol. We were in a small room for 4 people. 3 people could sit on the bench, and the other 3 had to stand, but that was fine, because most people liked to sing and dance around.
Time flew by here, and we decided to leave when we ran out of songs/​couldn’t sing, which happened at about 4am.

Open late, fun to go to with a group of your friends. Have a bunch of private rooms so you can sing your heart out without random people judging you, but I believe they also have an open area that isn’t open as late so if that’s what your heart desires you can do that too.

Came to Sing Sing for the 3^rd time last Saturday after making a reservation on the phone earlier in the day. We showed up at 11:30 and Sing Sing said they had our private room reserved for the following night.
They said we could possibly get a room in an hour, they took my phone number, but no guarantees. We stuck around in the main room and checked back in an hour later. They gave us a room at half price and offered us shots. Good job Sing Sing for turning a negative into a positive. And the private room is great, they just upgraded the rooms where you can program your songs in on an iPad type device.

We went here for maybe the fourth leg of a friend’s birthday extravaganza at around 6:30pm on a Sunday. The birthday boy absolutely had to karaōke his vegan heart out and his lovely girlfriend found a place where we could sing karaōke at the bar, as opposed to dishing out more cash than we would like for a room, since the majority of his party was not «singing.» Although the bar itself was rather small, we had rather a lot of space. Unsurprisingly, not many folks were trying to karaōke their Sunday night away.
Yes, this place was divey and yes it looked a bit grungy, but that lived-​in, laid back, dark and questionable nature of the place appeals to the bum in me. The happy hour cocktails were only $ 4 (the strawberry Hi-​Chew in particular, was lovely) and were quite tastily alcoholic. Happy hour lasted until 9 pm, the bartender was more than attentive and for every drink we bought we were also given a free song. The karaōke books themselves look beautifully beaten and although we did not wish to sing, it was still gratifying to know that I could find at least some Tupac or Biggie Smalls should the liquid courage kick in. As we saw the birthday boy sang his heart (and try to unsuccessfully get the rest of his party involved) we knew that this was the right place to make all his dreams come true.

Happy Hour pricing on rooms on Mondays (50% off)! Sing Sing is a great place to hang out with friends when you’re in the mood to sing a tune or just to chill when in the area. They have private rooms available at a very reasonable rate and open karaōke available by the front bar if you’re looking to mingle. The song selections are wide and the remotes are touch screen! I remember the days when the equipment was bulky … my my how far we’ve come!
Overall, a cool place to sing your tunes but don’t expect anything too fancy as you can definitely see the wear and tear in this establishment vs others in the city.

Seems like a lot of people posting reviews here would really suck to karaōke with. I ONLY want my karaōke bars dingy and dark, thank you very much. Gets slammed Thursday-​Saturday, so call ahead or be prepared to wait if you want a private room (which is the way to go, you’re only going to get 1, max 2 songs in if you sing at the bar). My recommendation is to have everybody get their own drinks from the bar rather than utilizing the room’s call button… that’s a very shrewd way to lull you into thinking that you’re spending less than you are. Nothing shady, you just always end up spending a shitload and then cheapskates try to skip out on the tab at the end of the night.
They recently overhauled the song selection system, so it’s way easier and you don’t have to speak korean to know what each button does. Really simple tablet used to input songs and edit the order. Badass.
Can’t be beat. Enjoy it here much better for rooms, prefer St. Mark’s for singing at the bar (St. Mark’s also doesn’t have liquor for some reason).
Drink prices are a little steep, but hey, it’s Manhattan.

8 years later, and many a karaōke night elsewhere, I finally come back to Sing Sing to book a room and sing some tunes with some close friends.
The rooms are so much nicer and the iPad menu and song list is really intuitive and what a library! (though no Mazzy Star :()
And the magic service button once push delivers a friendly attendant within a minute or two to take your drink order, answer questions and then quickly whisk away to attend to your requests.
Their $ 4 happy hour room and drink special till 9pm — yeah, that’s the bees knees right there. Also, they didn’t mind we went two songs past the end of our hour. It’s the little things, you know.
Tip: I made a reservation request online and then confirmed it by phone, made everything a lot smoother.

Grody. Loud, crowded, raucous environment. Divey and not that clean. It might have some appeal to those wanting to participate in some drunken singing.

If you are into dirty and cramped, this is the place for you. I came here with friends as a post boozy brunch activity and spent the next the next few hours super uncomfortable.
It reminded me that basement apartment that your high school friend’s ‘uncle’ rents from parents who do a lot of recreational drugs… it’s the kind of uncomfortable that people look the other way from.
2 stars because the staff is friendly and the beer is cheap.

Awful bartender who is entitled and mean. Took what could have been an awesome night and threw it right in the garbage. He took the songs I paid for and tipped for and moved them back in queue all night so what should have taken an hour and a half for my songs, became 2 and a half and they were at the back of the queue again. Apparently other people tipped more? Whatever man.
He is absolutely terrible and because of him I will never go back and neither should y’all. Shame bc we went a couple weekends ago and had fun. He was mean then too but not like this. He should just not be in the service industry.

Unexpected karaōke night! Amazing songs list, maybe a little old/​dirty but great experience

This is the perfect spot to go to if you want a more low key place for karaōke. It’s also much more affordable than other places and don’t require you to purchase bottles of liquor.
Some friends and I were in the area and made a spontaneous decision to come in for an hour of karaōke. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

A lot of fun but a very small space and they keep the microphone volume pretty low so you kind of have to scream. Everyone I was with lost their voice tonight. Good drink prices and if you go on the later side the less time you have to wait to sing your song. They also charge you to sing a song — not sure if that’s typical but it seemed peculiar to me. Not sure if I’d go back or not.
