Sid’s Bikes NYC

This is the worst service I’ve ever received. I went in because I’m looking to buy a new TT bike. That woman at the front desk was so rude and with such a bad attitude I had to leave, couldn’t stay one more minute. I can’t believe people like that are allowed to be in a retail store. And, compared to other stores, they are much more pricey.

I more than agree with all of the 1 star reviews. I visited the store a few days ago and recieved absolutely horrendous service. The main woman, possibly owner (?) could not even be bothered to speak to me, even after I explained that I was interested and asked a few questions. She literally walked right passed me, picked up the bike I was looking at and walked away. When I followed to ask a question she rolled her eyes. I would never give this place my business or purchase a $ 2−4K bike from them. The other guys who were working in the store were more pleasant but unhelpful.
Don’t shop there — go to one of the many other bike shops in the neighborhood.

So nice. Great service. I bought my spin shoes there 2 years ago and when one of the clasps came loose after lots of use, someone happily helped me fix it

I bought my bike and get all my supplies here. They’re always helpful and never pushy.

Friendly, professional, knowledgeable and quality work. I took my old trek mountain bike in and they took it apart completely checking each aspect of the bike and cleaning it. It was a very thorough process and tune up. Though price was $ 525, plus some random parts which came out to a little more. I recommend this bike shop if you want serious quality for the type of bike that deserves it. The owners call you, and double check before adding any parts, working with your budget. Overall, very satisfied, what a business should be – personal and reliability.

This is by far my favorite bike shop in the area. I’d like to personally thank Jon for his time, knowledge, and quality service he provided me. I came in with my Santa Cruz 5010 and threw a laundry list of parts that I wanted updated that week. Everything from a new shock and fork to a completely new drive train and brake set. They gave me a time estimate and even called me promptly when they ran into a minor issue. I had my bike back in 2 days time. They even threw in a free brake adapter and headset cap so I didn’t have to waste time and order. I’ve since tested out the new ride and it’s running perfectly.

I just bought my first new road bike here and had a very good experience. I came in with a list of a few bikes that were within my budget, and the front desk staff helped me right away to select which models to test. I was particularly happy that they didn’t talk down to me because I wanted an entry-​level bike or because I’m a woman. In fact, the guy who helped me said that, while a women’s specific frame might fit me best, a unisex frame in some models might work too, so the most important thing was to do a bike fit. He spent probably half an hour fitting me for a few models and showing me the differences in detail. It was exactly the kind of no-​nonsense, direct, professional experience I was looking for — and I got a fantastic bike.

Had to listen to a staff person and a customer complain about how, if you have a wife, you can’t buy any cool bike stuff. And, I am thinking, «what if you are the wife?». Then had to wait to be acknowledged at the repair desk while other staff, far outnumbering customers, discussed how much pizza they were going to buy for lunch. The part for my repair cost twice what it would at my regular bike shop. One star for the guy that did the repair competently and efficiently.

If I could give this shop 0 stars, I seriously would. I went in today seriously looking to purchase a new bike and received the WORST service (if you could even call it that). I race locally and was looking to upgrade from the bike that I currently have, and had a list of bikes with specific components that I wanted to try. When I listed them off to the sales girl, she just looked at me incredulously and brought me to a bike I did not ask for (women specific Cannondale). When I tried to clarify what I was looking for, another sales person (a guy this time), told me that because I am so short (5’3) I HAVE to buy women specific and refused to show me anything else. Obviously this is not true in any way and I really do not appreciate being treated like an absolute idiot when I am ready to shell out thousands of dollars.
If I had not been helped by another woman, I would have chalked this one up to sexism, but now I’m thinking it might have been because I don’t have that «edgy bike shop» look. Sorry guys, want me to wear kit next time? Should I come directly after a race with my number still on? Tattoos? Maybe I should crash first and come in bleeding to be taken seriously?
Oh wait, there won’t be a next time, because I went to another shop that actually treated me like a person with a brain and bought a bike. I will definitely make sure to tell everyone in CRCA and NYCC about my wonderful experience at Sid’s as well. Seriously. everyone stay away from there (I recommend Echelon and Danny’s for all your bike shop needs. Great guys who treat you like a valued customer/​person when you go in)!

Awfull service! Incompetence throughout.
Ive came to Sids a couple of times in the past year to buy gear and put some air in the tires. Everyone was always nice. Thus when i got a flat last wednesday morning I took it to Sids to fix it. I had a long ride schedulled for Saturday morning, so I left the bike there for the day, and asked for a couple of simple extra things: for them to find what caused the flat and a front dérailleur alignment. Got the bike back and left it on the apartment until my saturday morning ride.
I rode it on saturday at 7am and i got 4 flats before reaching george washington bridge. All because the tape on the wheel was old and worn out and missing a part, and the wheel spoke was piercing the tube. A 5 dollars fix. I am not an expert, and i’ve never claimed to be. Thats why i pay a bike shop to fix my flat. The incompetent Sids bike mechanic did not even search for the source of the flat, or he would have found the issue. Instead i’ve paid 30 bucks on 4 tubes and spent hours on the side of the road fixing them, before getting to the next bike shop. In the next bike shop, it took them 30 seconds to find the issue. Literally 30 secs looking.
On top of that, the front dérailleur is working worse than it was before. Taking longer to switch and sometimes not even switching gears at all. Awefull job.
Good job, Sids. Just lost a client.

After years of lurking, I’ve decided to finally participate in the Unilocal community.
I’m not a very athletic person and know nothing about bikes or what differentiates a road bike from a mountain bike or the benefits of a hybrid bike. My friend who is an avid cyclist recommended Sid’s and said the best way to choose one is to test ride a few to see what’s comfortable. This was excellent advice because the bikes I had chosen from reading reviews, forums, and googling articles were really expensive and uncomfortable in person.
I came during my lunch break initially not realizing what a time commitment this was. Someone greeted and helped me immediately and let me test-​ride a few in spite of my being terrified to ride in NYC traffic. I found one I liked but had to go back to work so figured I’d come back the next day. Also, it was a bit out of my initial price range for my first bike so I wanted to do more research.
I found an older model of the bike on their website so I placed an order to pick up for the next day. It tells you to call the store for confirmation and it turns out that their website isn’t updated that often and they no longer had the bike in stock. They said they had a different color and would put it together for me, but when I picked it up, it turned out they didn’t have that one either. I think I seemed pretty sad because one of the guys, Sean, offered to call Cannondale for me to see if they had any 2014 models at all and told me a story about how it took him a full week to buy his first bike because when it’s your first bike, you should buy the one you really like. I had ridden every bike in the store that fit a 5’4″ girl by this point in time. He couldn’t do anything for me but he said he could help talk to the store manager and I could come back tomorrow to see if they could work anything out.
Going to the same store three days in a row is crazy so I called John the next day instead, and he did end up giving me a great deal on the first bike I had ridden and fallen in love with, and also on the accessories! He personally helped me with the whole purchase, gave great biking advice, helped me plan my route home, and was just super nice. I wish I took his advice on pinhead locks because it’s annoying to carry my bike seat everywhere. The customer service was excellent, they are such awesome people and I hope I need new bike accessories soon because Sean’s dog is really cute!
Also, I love my bike :) Love at first sight definitely applies to bicycles.

Visiting from Chicago and had a minor accident on the west side bike trail. My Garmin out front mount cracked and my Garmin Edge 510 flew off and onto 11^th ave, not ran over, whew. Lucky neither me or the cyclist who suddenly stopped without signaling were injured. The people at Sid’s were super friendly, had the part I needed and had their mechanic look over my bike. They made some minor adjustments free of charge and I was on my way. Highly recommended Pro shop with a down to earth feeling.

I became a loyal Sid’s client several years ago by default. What I mean by that is, I had bought my bike in 2007 at Metro Bicycles, located on 6^th Ave and 15^th St. (Now called Danny’s Cycles because they merged with Metro Bicycles). Over the years, I would go into Metro Bicycles for repairs & tuneups, upgrades on my bike, a new helmet, etc. They were not the friendliest people in the neighborhood and I always dreaded going in there. On my last visit to Metro Bicycles, they didn’t seem to want my business and told me that the bike repair I needed would take a week, since they were too busy to get to it any sooner. Yet, all I needed was to purchase from them a new chain & have it put on my bike.
(I know, I know! You might be thinking that I could have put the new chain on the bike myself. But, things like that really are a challenge for me and I’d rather go have a coffee instead, while someone else is doing the bike chain switch with more efficiency than can I. Plus, I’m willing to pay for this service.)
So, I explained to Metro Bicycles that a week is a long time to be without my bike, since I use it for transportation necessities. I got no verbal response, but a cool stare. This was my cue to leave Metro Bicycles & look for other options for bicycle maintenance and purchases in the future. I exited the store for my last time and within minutes I found (here on Unilocal) Sid’s Bikes NYC. I immediately rode my bike over to Sid’s & they sold me a chain and had my bike ready for me within the hour.
I didn’t tell Sid’s of my bad experiences with Metro Bicycles. So, they were not trying to make themselves look better than other shops in the area. They were just simply doing what Sid’s Bikes NYC does… and they do it very well; providing professional, courteous and reliable service to the neighborhood.
I’ve been a client here now for several years and when I’m ready to purchase another new bike, I certainly will do so at Sid’s Bikes NYC.
It’s a very good-​looking bike shop with so many wonderful bikes available for purchase. In the very back of the store is where they do repairs. Sids is very organized and personable.
They don’t even sell the type of bike that I ride. So, they know very well that I did not make my purchase with them. However, they always welcome me & my bike into their shop & I’m very gracious to Sid’s Bikes NYC.
Hopefully Danny’s Cycles has much better customer service than did Metro Bicycles. But, since Sid’s Bikes goes above and beyond, there’s no need for me to find out about any other bike shop in NYC.
I cannot think of one improvement that I would make at Sid’s. So I give it five stars!

Sid’s was great. I was assisted by Delissa, who helped me purchase my first road bike (Cannondale Synapse) and I was extremely happy with the service and care provided. Sid’s felt like a welcoming place with a friendly, knowledgeable staff and a wide selection of bikes and equipment.

The staff at Sid’s Bikes is always knowledgeable, never condescending, clear and reasonable. I am a new cyclist preparing for my first triathlon, so I went to Sid’s after I had narrowed my search a bit by researching online. I wanted preliminary info about what bikes they thought would fit me best, and would work within my budget. On my first visit, Ashlei really gave me a thorough look at two models that satisfied everything I needed, and my follow up visit to be fitted and purchase was great, too. Overall a great experience so far and I definitely feel like I am in good hands and more well informed now.

First off, let me state that their repair area in the back is EXCELLENT. The repair staff couldn’t be nicer and I trust their repairs above any other bike shop in the city.
However, their front end sales staff need to SERIOUSLY STOP with all that attitude and rudeness, it’s terrible.
And be careful because their hours say they are open to 7 but sometimes they like to close early, like around 6:15 or so.
On a serious note to management: look around, a lot of mom and pop stores are closing, making way for bigger corporations to come in and snatch up that prime real estate. So it would be in your BEST interest to want to be nice and provide great customer service.
If you don’t like dealing with people, I hear the post office or DMV is hiring.

Had been looking at a Cervelo bike for some time. I know R&A in Brooklyn has some really nice bikes but based on their reviews on Unilocal,I decided not to buy the bike from there. Who wants to give money to a bunch of sick heads?
I decided to check out Sid’s and went there twice. Dave was very helpful and gave me a good run down of their bikes and pros and cons. I was taking my time and he didn’t rush me at all and encouraged me take take all the time I needed. I wanted to think about it more so I left. I came back during the weekend and he let me test rides a couple bikes and bought a Cervelo. It was a great experience, especially since I am new to road biking and not as knowledgeable.

I showed up at 7:55pm on a Monday night. My rear dérailleur was busted and I needed some maintenance. The shop sign said that it closed at 8pm, so I thought I was out of luck. I was wrong — they stayed late and fixed my bike for a nominal charge.
Friendly staff, great service and average prices. I’m a fan of Sid’s. Typical bike shop guys are snots and try to rip you off. I don’t feel that vibe at Sid’s. Good stuff.

Probably the worst bike shop in manhattan.
Terrible customer service. I mean– downright rude. I’m not new to cycling and for spending over 3 grand in a day here, you’d expect to be… Acknowledged maybe. Even eye contact would have been SOMETHING.
You’re better off literally anywhere. Seriously.
Can’t wait for Unilocal to offer 0 star reviews.
