Sherry Netherland

We stayed at the Sherry Nertherland for 5 days to celebrate our 30^th wedding anniversary. As has been noted by several reviewers the hotel exudes class and charm but most of all it demonstrates what service should be. From the doormen who greet you as though you are a resident, to the elevator operators who are on duty 24 – 7, to the front desk personnel Tammy, Elizabeth and Reggie who attend to your every need, each guest is treated like royalty. This was truly a memorable stay and we look forward to returning for many more special events.

Our 3^rd visit and stay at The Sherry was quite different from the first two. The front desk was less than friendly upon check in; to the point of not being able to locate reservation. Yet we received an email 48 hours before reminding us of the upcoming stay.
The room was nothing like our first two stays (yes we were loyal) being very tiny with leaky faucets and mold around bathtub. Often the housekeeping failed to vacuum and came so late in the day it impeded our plans to get ready for the evening.
I complained once hoping to
change rooms and call was not returned. So for $ 599 a night we felt like outcasts at an airport Motel 6.
3 stays of 8 nights each, without any hotel reward points and no loyalty was acknowledged.
Wish we had never booked. A very loyal customer has been lost.

This 5-​star review is a long-​time coming, and I wish I had written it sooner. My husband and I were married back on New Year’s Eve (12÷31÷07), and stayed at the Sherry in a beautiful city view suite. I will try not to make this too long, but I could go on forever. We live in San Diego, so NYC was a destination elopement for us. It was a wonderful trip, and the hotel staff were just as wonderful, catering to our every need, from the front desk greetings to elevator attendants to the bell staff — so polite and friendly! We have since gone back twice to celebrate our anniversary — first for NYE 2009/​10, and again in January 2014 — we couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else. The clean yet old-​world décor, convenient location (across from major subway lines and adjacent to Central Park along 5^th Avenue), and room amenities, are outstanding. Yet, the most amazing part of our experience each time, is how service oriented each and every staff member is. We were absolutely blown away on our last trip where we were surprised to find that Jackie — Hotel Manager — arranged for us to have «our» suite waiting for us, complete with a bottle of champagne and welcome note when we arrived!!! The reason this is particularly special is because this suite is now an apartment for sale. Because we thought the suite was unavailable, we went ahead and booked a regular room. As you could imagine, it was a complete surprise to be greeted during check-​in after a long trip (during the freezing polar vortex) with such a generous gesture! These are just a few reasons we will make the Sherry Netherland our home away from home. You really do «stay in New York, as if you live in New York» at the Sherry. We wish we could someday call «our» suite home. Who knows? It’s still for sale for a reason… maybe we will. ;-)

After visiting NYC for many years and staying in many different places, I believe I have finally found «my» hotel. My wife and I and our three children (ages 3, 7, & 9) stayed in a suite with an adjoining room for a long weekend. The rooms were clean and the location is great. Despite the noise, hustle, and bustle of everything going on outside, the hotel is quiet, which is refreshing. The staff was fantastic and very friendly. The only issue we had was with getting hot water on demand but recognizing it is an old hotel, we did not mind the wait. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Sherry.

Sherry Netherland hotel is a classic old school hotel that really not a lot of people know about. its across the way from the Plaza Hotel. its divine but not pretentious. its my favorite hotel for over 50 years so you know I’m getting old. its adjacent to Central Park South and 5^th Avenue.
it used to be 100% hotel but now its 80% condos. it’s still a grand place either way.

Room: Beautiful room with chandelier and 1920esque furniture. This was a lovely stay with wonderful staff who provide you with a box of complimentary chocolates upon arrival. Fresh flowers in the foyer and bathroom.
Location: PRIME! Right across the street (northside) of the Apple store on 5^th Ave.

Beautiful rooms. Everything you could ask for from this landmark. The staff is awesome! Especially the doormen! :)

Elegance without stuffiness, in a location that can’t be beat. We were treated to terrific, personal service and had a beautiful suite (unanticipated upgrade!) with views of the Plaza Hotel and Fifth Avenue. The room’s décor was over the top ornate, complemented by fresh flowers and a note upon arrival, Godiva chocolates at bedtime. Love being right on Central Park.

Yes as good as it gets. The best hotel in NYC, white glove service, makes you feel like a rock star.

I stayed here a night with Rachel N, and while the room and bed were lovely the SN reminded me so much of my grandmother’s house. My grandmother had a very nice house, so that’s not a diss, just that the hotel had the same sort of musty old world smell about it which made me worry my grandmother would pop out at any second and scold me about my posture.
The biggest surprise was that the SN is mostly condos. I think only two floors are available as a hotel, so you’re sharing the lobby/​elevator/​staff with permanent residents. This didn’t cause any conflicts, but was a little odd.
There was a big big big fuss at check in about giving me a key to the room because the reservation was in Rachel’s name. She had given them verbal and written instructions about my arrival but they lost/​forgot them and didn’t believe me. Since she was in a meeting I couldn’t call her, and luckily was able to pull up our GChat with our plans. Score one for smartphones, zero for the Sherry-​Netherland.

Okay, I’ll be the first to admit that while I’m most at home in my sweats and fuzzy jacket, i can also be a little ridiculous — and thusly, take this three star w a grain of salt — yes, the Sherry Netherland is an enjoyable respite from the city’s business — but since I’m feeling a little fussy (sitting on a plane for six hours and indulging in one too many episodes of Millionaire Matchmaker does this to me), here is my White Girl Problem review if the hotel –
While at first I was wowed by the elegance of the Sherry Netherland, with its muraled doors, walk in closet, and in-​room chandeliers (this bear is a chronic swooner over such attn to detail), as my visit dragged on, the boutiquey nature of the place kind of left me desirous of a larger, well-​oiled luxury experience and the charm of the Godiva chocolates, flowers, and massive room wore off.
Yes, the SN is perfectly located if your trip to Nueva York centers around midtown locales, and yes, the bed is one of the most comfy I’ve slept in, but for a classy establishment, it needs to work on customer service. The «concierge» is just the front desk woman who was negatively helpful — she was unable to suggest any eateries other than Cipriani, which was in the hotel (and insanely pricey, even by ny standards), and another place right around the corner… okay, I can Unilocal places, NBD, but part of the pleasure of staying in a hotel revolves around having knowledgeable people around you willing to help make the stay easier/​unique/​delightful. Oh, and they lost my written request for two full beds as well as the extra key I had left for a certain caller to my boudoir. Amateur night.
Sooooo, while the SN is gorgeous, for the money, I would head to the Peninsula, where both the rooms and the staff will make your wildest dreams come. Next time, I’m finding Manhattan’s Hampton Inn.

This is, hands down, one of my all time favorite hotels. The hotel itself is very nice, very «old New York», with a great location at the SE corner of central park. It’s not the hotel itself that is so wonderful, however — it’s the staff. From the first «welcome back» to the last «it was wonderful to have you with us» the staff make you feel like an honored guest.

Although the Sherry Netherland is pricier than most hotels at which I stay, I state – without hesitation – that it is well worth it. The quality of service is top notch, the décor and cleanliness is superb, and the location is fantastic.
Located at the corner of 59^th and 5^th, the Sherry Netherland is recognizable by its large clock at the sidewalk. It is conveniently located catty-​corner to the Plaza Hotel. I love that I can walk to a variety of shops and restaurants from the door, but the hotel doorman is also happy to assist guests who wish to catch a taxi cab.
The staff of the Sherry Netherland is really what keeps us coming back here. Being known by name and greeted with «welcome back» as one exits the cab from the airport makes a striking impression. From the doormen to the elevator operators to the front desk staff, everyone is exceedingly courteous and efficient. It is a pleasure to communicate with this hotel’s staff.
Finally, the décor and cleanliness of the rooms is great. Unlike many hotels that are done in a cookie-​cutter fashion, the rooms at the Sherry Netherland are such that returning guests are aware if they are staying in a different room from visits past. Although some rooms are more attractive than others, each room is decorated in a style that is welcoming to behold and a pleasure in which to stay. Be warned, however, that those which are less attractive are a bit quirky. None of the rooms are unpleasant in the least, but there are some strange choices in the artwork and accessories of some of the rooms. If you are fortunate enough to upgrade to a suite, the cozy sitting rooms are a delight in which to curl up with a book and a complementary soft drink.

This little boutique hotel is our home away from home in the city. Rooms are equipped with antiques and oriental rugs. Beds are new and comfortable. The accommodations are very comfortable and the location is at the SE corner of the park — across from the Plaza.

stay here. splurge and stay here and really really love it for every penny you’re spending. this is luxury, this is class, this is the best of new york.
this is the kind of hotel that makes you never want to go home.

If the exclusive setting on the border of Central Park is not enough of a tip-​off then the gilded tiny private lobby will serve to tell you that you’ve arrived in part of New York’s old-​world society. Each of the staff on duty will be introduced to you. One of them will personally escort you up the elevator to show you your room. Be warned: they will remember your name during your entire trip! I stayed in a suite that looked like something out of a 1950’s Holywood movie: a spacious, well-​lit marble bathroom, an enormous bedroom by any hotel standard, and a separate sitting room, missing only Carry Grant lounging on the couch. You cannot pay for this type of privacy, since no one is getting by the staff unless they are staying in one of the rooms or apartments upstairs. I think this is my favorite NYC hotel experience of all-​time.

It’s hard to describe how great this hotel is. It is quite possibly the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in and for certain puts many NYC rooms to shame. This hotel/​apartment dwelling sits adjacent to the Plaza and directly across the street from Central Park. The staff here are amazing, so are the rooms. The cost for rooms in New York is always expensive, but at this place, you actually get something for your money. Rooms are extravagent and huge! Most suites feature a kitchenette and a huge living room in addition to a grand bedroom. Since there are full time residents here as well, each room has it’s own distinct flavor and décor. I highly recommend the splurge if you’re thinking of doing something grand in NYC. You will not regret staying here. The bed is amazing, the staff is accomodating, and the location can’t be beat. Depending on the size room you get, and whether it has a view of another building aka the court yard, or 59^th you can get one ranging from $ 699‑1499. Do yourself the favor and save for 59^th. But wait, you say, it overlooks the park? Oh it does, however I do believe those rooms are for full time residents only. Look for specials on their website, as sometimes if you pay in full upfront, you can get a slight discount.

Right on the Southeast corner of Central Park, the hotel was great. Huge rooms by New York standards, with a kitchenette. All drinks were stocked and included in the price. Small lobby with a residential feel. Very quite, but close to everything. The room service was from Harry Cipriani and was fabulous. For the price you really can’t beat it. It’s the best kept secret on Central Park. Right across the street from the Plaza, but a way better value.
