I have had positive experiences in the past so I won’t give this one star. I recently ordered from the website and was excited to receive my new items in a speedy fashion like my previous orders. I even paid extra for faster shipping. I was so wrong. I waited ten days without any word. I called the phone number on my order confirmation and gave the order number. The representative I made initial contact with was unable to access my file. I supplied a phone number and waited for a call back. Thirty minutes later I was contacted. I began to explain my situation and without notice was transferred to a supervisor. I was confused and asked why I was disconnected. His response was that I was upset. At this point I was not, merely confused. I again began to explain how I ordered three items 10 days previous and was not even given a courtesy email explaining that one of the items was back ordered. I also told him that I had paid for faster shipping and my account was already debited. I paused and waited for a response and a solution. Instead I received a laundry list of excuses: 1. The item I ordered had a thousand back orders 2. The factory lies to Shear World about shipments 3. The website is broken and in the process of being fixed(it’s the 5th website) 4. Contacting every customer about back orders would be too much work 5. Shear World did not have my money(neither do I?!) I was left with a strange empty feeling at the end of the call. I still have no idea when I might receive the back ordered item. I have had the other two items shipped to me. I just felt there was a real lack of responsibility and a total breakdown of communication. I understand contacting a thousand people is no small feat but why is this item for sale? The part that left me totally disturbed was being transferred to another representative with no warning. I was NOT upset just searching for answers. I feel that I got none. I am in a customer based business and I understand that things do not always go smoothly but the way this was handled was really disappointing.

My candy land!!! Seriously have consistently received nothing short of the BESTCUSTOMERSERVICE, and highest quality tools and supplies over the last 20+ yrs… I’m in California and still don’t think twice about calling shear world when in need. I remember back in 2001, shortly after 9/11, how fearful I felt and unsure of the world around me– and sure enough, these guys didn’t skip a beat. I had to call in person and I was so upset and they literally assured me they were ok and moving forward. I will be a customer for LIFE and highly recommend this business to all! Can’t wait to get my matsuzaki 5 stars back from being sharpened… after purchasing them from shear world I only ship them to be serviced and can always trust the will be returned in great shape. Thanks you guys!!!

I have been a customer of Mel’s since I purchased my first pair of shears from him when I was fresh out of Beauty School in 1983. I’ve made the mistake of purchasing shears elsewhere a few times and I assure you that will NEVER happen again! Having picked up scissors yesterday, that I had sharpened and waiting for the elevator, I started thinking about how long I’ve been a satisfied customer and realized that I should write a review on Unilocal! It made me sad to see that they have only been reviewed twice and once quite poorly; must be something wrong with the person who wrote the bad review. There is no other distributor of shears that will treat you better or more fairly. If you’re unsatisfied, returns and exchanges are not an issue(no one else will do that). Mel understands the importance of a good and comfortable shear in your hand and wants you to be satisfied! When you’re looking at the price list, you must consider the economy and how poorly the dollar is doing against foreign currencies, this is why prices seem so inflated but you’ll never find the products he sells at a lower price anywhere! Mel and his staff at Shear World International treat the hairdressing community with respect and professionalism 100% of the time!

My go to place for shear sharpening and picking up a few new combs, clips etc on the fly. Prices are a little high but i like to physically see and hold the products before i buy the(Y.S. park combs and clips tend to have inconsistent colors). All in all Mel is a cool guy(he has even stayed late for me) and they have a great selection; a great place for professional stylists!
