We specialize in small production, earth friendly wines — mostly European but we have ‘em from everywhere. We also have some lesser-​known Scotches, Whiskeys, & Vodkas. Small production means better quality and it means you ‘re not paying their marketing costs because they don’t have any.

Steve is a former documentary filmmaker and advertising executive who, with his wife Shelly McClure, had an immense passion for wine. In 2005, Steve quit making films and opened September Wines & Spirits. In 2008, the shop was voted New York City’s Best Wine Store by Citysearch. And they repeated in 2009.

Although beautiful in décor and with a great name… My birthday month… None of my favorite Prosecco wines such as La Marca, Mionetto, Cupcake brands were available and had to settle for a drier and bitter Prosecco which I don’t even remember the name. Also didn’t feel the most welcome with my crew… Hate to make it a color thing but we were all Latinos and I didn’t feel the staff was happy to have our service. In any case wouldn’t come back but if you’re into fancy rare wines that not even I as a wine connoisseur know,
guess it would be your spot…

I opened the bottle of wine and it was corked with mold on the cork as well. I showed the store clerk the mold and he said it was totally fine and proceeded to try to convince me that there was nothing wrong with the wine, even though you could clearly taste that it was corked. Any liquor store worth its salt would refund or exchange corked wine — these guys did not and completely refused my request and proceeded to tell me there was nothing they could do…

I live a few steps away from the shop, so I am a very frequent visitor. Although a small shop, they have a great selection (whether it is region, variety, or price). The staff is helpful and always willing and able to assist you on picking the perfect wine for whatever your occasion warrants.

I feel like if you’re not an avid Unilocal reviewer, there’s always a distinctive experience (for better or worse) that prompts you to write something about an establishment.
For me, it was last night. I walked into September for the first time on my commute home and decided to pick up a few bottles of wine with my roommate. One of the employees was super nice and attentive gave us recommendations that we ended up following. He seemed knowledgable and I tend to trust my local wine-​os, so… away we went.
Unfortunately, when we arrived home and cracked open the bottle of red, it was incredibly unpleasant. I’m not sure if the wine had gone bad or if it was simply my taste buds, but it tasted like… dirty socks? So gross. I was tempted to not say anything, but considering it was about a $ 25 bottle, I decided to call up the store and let them know what happened.
Michael (the employee who helped us) remembered me and was super apologetic. He asked if I was still around the area or lived close by and — without me prompting — offered to have a replacement bottle delivered to my apartment. I was totally taken aback. Who does that?
Within 15 minutes a delicious bottle of Spanish wine was at my front door. Talk about service! One of those moments that made me appreciate NYC, its efficiency and good people in the world. Thanks Michael — best believe you have a loyal customer from now on!

This place is great. I probably come here too often, but the service is outstanding and the selection is large. You can just go in and tell them what kind of mood you are in and they will lead you to something fantastic. It is worth it to ask for recommendations especially if you like trying new things. We are part of the Wine of the Month Club which gets us a great selection of wine as well as information on what to eat it with and how to serve, written up by the knowledgeable staff. You also get 10% off of wines at the store with the membership we have which is great!

This is basically everything you want in a wine and spirits store. Super friendly faces behind the counter, lots of options for every palate that walks through the door, a range of prices from as little as $ 10 for a bottle of rose to more expensive options for special occasions, and they’re dog friendly to boot!
It’s a small place but they’ll most certainly have anything you’re looking for. But if you live in the ‘hood, you probably already know this.

I live around the corner, and am definitely not savvy about my wines. But of course, I love to drink it. Whenever I go to September Wines, I give them a short description of what I’m after, a price range and always get a winner.
But today was exceptionally great, my sales guy really understood what I was after and brought me a Brea Chardonnay. Ah-​ma-​zing. Without words. This is hallf Unilocal review half big thank you to the guys in the store!
Great prices, great recommendations, great wines. Ticks on all the boxes.

Though I don’t live in LES, I would consider moving to have September Wines as my local libations purveyor! These guys rock.
Have been here a couple times now, for slightly different occasions (and drinks each times), so I can safely say there’s really something for everyone. Unlike many (snobby) New York City wine establishments, the girls and guys here don’t turn up their noses if you’re feelin’ cheap. In fact, the staff members go out of their way to cater to your needs and price range. Plus, everything September sells is carefully sourced, tasted, tried and true, so even their $ 10 bottles of wine are of a high quality.
Go in for occasional wine and spirit tastings! I happened to drop by when a small-​batch rye whiskey company was offering samples of their product, and definitely left a little tipsier than intended…

Great neighborhood wine store. Staff is friendly and provides great recommendations. They also have samples on Friday/​Saturday nights. Lots of options in all price ranges. I come here for Spanish Reds and Prosecco.

I had a very quick but very satisfying visit to September Wines & Spirits.
I walked in wanting to try 2 different wines I don’t typically buy. The guy working was very friendly, asked me what I was looking for and what I wanted to spend.
He showed me a few wines and after trying them at home, I really liked them.
They have a great selection and a great staff. I will definitely be going back next time I’m in the LES.

I hadn’t had much luck with the staff here in the past (a bit elitist if you really want to know), but still made the trek back, solely to get the same sparkling white I got for last New Year’s Eve (Veuve Ambal Blanc de Blancs Brut). Before my latest experience, I would have rated them 3/​5, but the girl working was really laid back & friendly. Much better service than in the past! Keep it up September, I’ll be back!

Folks who work here are nice but for me this is not a good spot for everyday wine for dinner because average bottle prices range in the $ 15-​$ 20 range. The only bottle I’ve found here for less than $ 10 is a Montepulciano for $ 9.99, with which I had no complaints. September is close by to BYOB spot Kuma Inn, and convenient for that if you are not close by to home, but I prefer Trader Joe’s at Union Square for a pretty good selection of under $ 10 wine that still tastes decent.

Hmm. My review may not be as useful for people who actually know wine, but I will speak as someone with very limited experience with anything wine related. I have not had a place where the staff has been friendlier, more helpful, or more professional than this store. I came in, and with nothing more than a vague request for «a white and a red that i can bring to a bbq» and a price range, the guy was able to quickly and efficiently pick out some great wine that my friends (who actually do know wine) liked. He also was great at just explaining the different wines and not making me stupid for not being a wine person. Great place, highly recommended, and worth it for me to come back here even when I’m not in the area.
