Selia Yang is a hidden gem and if you’re lucky enough to find her in the first place then your search is over! My experience working with Selia was everything wedding dress shopping should be and more. I came to Selia less than 3 WEEKS before my wedding after my first dress was ruined by alterations (Don’t even ask!). If I could go back and do it all over again, I would definitely start at Selia’s. Her craftsmanship, materials, attention to detail and pride in her work is unparalleled in my experience. Each one of her dresses is elegant, chic and timeless while also being right on-​trend. Trying dresses on one-​on-​one with Selia in her beautiful, calming studio was a breath of fresh air. The cherry on top is that Selia herself is wonderful — she’s kind and knowledgeable with impeccable taste and you can tell she genuinely cares about all of her brides. Now down to one week before my wedding — my dress is done, it’s flawless and I love it even more than my first one! Learn from my mistake and go to Selia — you won’t be disappointed.

From guiding you to your perfect dress to ensuring the perfect fit throughout the process Selia is there making sure everything is goes according to plan so all you have to worry about is slipping it on your wedding day.
Her studio offers a more personal shopping experience than the typical bridal salon. After going to numerous stores and not really feeling sure on any of the dresses I went to Selia’s and tried on a few gowns. I knew I found the best dress for me; not to mention I felt at ease with Selia’s design and fit expertise. She knows exactly where to place fabrics, lace and beading to highlight your body and magnify the dresses beauty.
I highly recommend… Especially if you don’t want the ‘typical bridal gown’, but want a one of a kind dress that perfectly suits your personality and body.

Yes, I ended up buying my dress from Selia; however, let me tell you why I ended up going with her. First off, I lived in New York for 5 years and have just recently moved to London. I’m getting married in California and based on the exorbitant fees for wedding dresses in London I decided to find my dress in New York; especially since I am back in New York frequently. Based on my own research and friend’s recommendations I went to the following places for dress shopping:
Mark Ingram
Kleinfeld’s
Kelima K
BHLDN
None of these compared to Selia.
First off, her dresses are gorgeous and made with such high quality materials. The dresses I tried on at other places of comparable price felt cheaper and the workmanship also looked more shoddy. The lace and materials used looked less refined than Selia’s. I tried on some beautiful Monique Lhuillier at Mark Ingram but, at that price point (more than double what I finally paid), I didn’t feel that the materials were doubly better than what Selia was using for her dresses. Honestly, it seemed about the same. Other dresses I tried on at the other bridal salons were all worse quality than what I tried at Selia’s. I had one of my best friends, who is incredibly picky about my clothes, come with me to a number of appointments and he said that Selia’s dress was the only one that made him have an emotional reaction. Not even the ML did that. Selia’s got skills.
Secondly, Selia really wants to make sure you are happy with the dress and that «you are wearing the dress and the dress isn’t wearing you.» Now, this seems like what every bridal shop wants. No, I cannot tell you how many times I was told how absolutely gorgeous I looked in something when I felt that it didn’t do anything for my body. If you are looking for a yes woman; than definitely give the other places a whirl. I need honesty when I’m looking for a wedding dress and who better to give you advice on what shapes would look good on you than the wedding dress designer herself? Friends and family who went with me to appointments agreed that the silhouette that she suggested was perfect for my body type. I couldn’t agree more. At the same time, Selia suggested I do try on other types of dresses (more princess-​y) to see if they suited me. Selia was right in that it just didn’t look right for me. This is the type of support I need. This might not be for everyone but I don’t want someone who is just looking to make a sale and a commission; I want someone to be honest with me so I can look beautiful on my wedding day.
Lastly, it is so apparent that Selia loves working with brides and making them look beautiful. Her passion for her work is seen throughout my whole process with her.
Her studio is beautifully laid out and; while professional, also feels personal and intimate. Many of the other places seemed like just a wedding factory; churning the brides in and out. She really cares about getting to know you and you getting to know her. At my last fitting we talked about so many different things that I really see Selia more as a friend than a wedding dress designer. She has a warmth and passion about her that make you feel immediately at ease and she really helps guide you through the nutty wedding process.

Selia is one of the most genuine and beautiful spirited people I know. When I went to her studio back in March in search of my wedding dress, I had no idea I would have found my dress within her designs.
Selia’s studio is warm and very professionally laid out. She made me feel very comfortable while I spoke to her about what I thought I wanted in a dress. My mother, 2 of my aunts and 2 of my bridesmaids attended the appointment and she was extremely welcoming to everyone.
After trying on 2 dresses and loving each one but not feeling like those were «the dress», Selia suggested another. I tried it on and had a «Say Yes to the Dress» moment and cried my eyes out as I looked in the mirror and saw myself in that dress walking down the aisle to my soon to be husband. I completely fell in love with it. I went out to show my family and they all loved it as well. I knew it was the one and to think that I would not have tried it, if Selia didn’t suggest it. She is also making me a custom headpiece to go along with my vision that will be exquisite with the dress and veil.
I had my first fitting last weekend and it went wonderfully. I’m thankful to have found Selia and can not wait to continue to work with her on my dream dress!

I wish I could give less than one star.
I took time off work in DC to make a weekend of dress shopping in NYC, two of my bridesmaids also took time off and came up from DC, one took time off in NYC, and my Mom came all the way up from Atlanta so we could find my wedding dress.
We had a Friday 4pm appointment scheduled with Selia, which was confirmed several days before. It took ages to get to her downtown apartment that doubles as her studio, and we called well before the appointment to say we would be a few minutes late. No one answered which was clue number one that something was off.
Upon arriving at the residential building in which she operates, we were buzzed up by a lovely doorman after he called her apartment and also got no answer. We got to the apartment door and rang the bell and knocked, and the only response was an angrily barking dog. After a few minutes a confused woman answered the door. Assumng this was Selia we said sorry we are ten minutes late but we are here for our 4pm appointment. She looked puzzled and repeatedly asked «4pm? 4pm?» to which we responded yes and yes. She let us into the apartment past the still angry growling dog and we found ourselves standing in a kitchen/​living room. She then disappeared into the back of the apartment. We called to her and she came back and motioned for us to giver her a moment, then she left the apartment. After about five minutes she came back shrugged and intimated as best she could that she didn’t know where Selia was.
We realized this must be an assistant or seamstress, and that this confused woman spoke next to no English. She motioned for us to call Selia, which we had already done to no answer of course, but we tried again. One of my bridesmaids called the number we had for Selia, and the landline phone sitting next to us started ringing. How undelightfully meta. My bridesmaid left an awkward message saying, «I’m in your living room and I don’t know why I’m leaving this, but clearly you are not here.» Then we emailed Selia reiterating, ‘We are here. You are not.‘
We waited till 4:45 receiving no response. All the while her dog growled and the confused woman who’d let us in hid in the back. At 4:45 we left and let the doorman know that Selia was not there.
Around 6pm we received an email from Selia with a convoluted excuse that her vespa which had been stolen earlier in the year had been recovered and that she had been stuck way uptown to reclaiming it since noon. The excuse, beyond being absurd, also demonstrated how little she cared about our time given that she admitted she’s had hours to call or email that she would need to cancel or reschedule.
I wondered aloud whether maybe she didn’t have a mobile or smart phone since the only number she’d given us had been that useless land line. I started to suggest maybe she had no way of contacting us or getting our email, when we noticed at the bottom of her emailed excuse four telling little words: «Sent from my iPhone.»
In response to this unacceptable and rude waste of our time, here are my four little words to sum up the experience: SELIA YANG IS AWFUL.

There really is no comparison…
I visited a number of other bridal boutiques before visiting Selia Yang, and at every one there was nothing that felt right. Sales clerks were pushy, dresses were «typical» or «expected» and nothing was made for petites. Essentially, I’d have to buy a dress I only kind of liked (for a lot of money), only to have to have it basically redone by a tailor (for more money).
The experience with Selia is the complete opposite. She has a strong creative POV and vision, amazing quality, great attention to detail and a beautiful selection (though, she probably will know which one you’ll pick from the moment you walk in the door). The personal nature of the whole experience was what put it over the top for me.
I absolutely love my dress, and am so excited to wear it this weekend!

I was in search of a «dream» dress with a wedding 6.5 months away so you’ll understand why this is even more stressful than the norm. Wedding dress shopping was almost overwhelming. ‘All these pretty dresses, which one to choose? Which is truly me?’
But what made Selia different was I walked into a vision. She crafted and basically transformed it into my gown. It’s hard to put into words how beautiful the dress makes me feel — it’s detailed yet simple, delicate yet modern. I just love, love, love it!
And to have a designer actually work with you every step along the way just gives you a sense of confidence and comfort. The icing on the cake was our conversations. I’ve had some of my heartiest laughs with her during the process! THAT is what you’ll experience with Selia, and I cannot wait to wear it this Saturday.

Having gone to all of the expected stores and designers in the first months, I tried on a few dresses at a sample store. Two dresses stood out for having amazing fit, materials, and construction. They were both Selia Yang. I searched online, called for an appointment, and was surprised to be talking with the designer herself. At her private studio she heard my ideas and picked three dresses to start with. Though all of them fit better than every dress I had previously tried on (no, seriously), the first one was IT. I bought my dress the same day and through a couple of fittings, Selia has carved it to my figure even more. It is soo beautiful, someone is going to have to take it from me on my wedding night!

Selia’s dresses are made with rich fabrics, quality adornaments and excellent design elements to flatter all women.
The dresses are feminine and focused on beauty of the wearer. Clean lines intergrate seamlessly with bridal fashion for that «je né sais qoi!»

I am enraged. I made an appointment for my sister who flew in from CA. I showed up for the appt and the store was closed and empty. I called the number and it said it was disconnected. No one ever notified me of this. I can’t believe how unprofessional this experience was.

Last weekend, I picked up my wedding dress from Selia, after four wonderful fitting sessions. To put it simply, I never thought I could look and feel as beautiful as I do in Selia’s dress.
I found Selia on the recommendation of a good friend and coworker of mine. Prior to visiting Selia, I had dragged my friends to the usual gamut of stores — David’s Bridal, Kleinfeld’s, Lovely Bride, and then some designer boutiques that had been recommended by friends. I’d probably visited 6 – 8 stores but nothing was quite fitting the amorphous vision I had in my head.
But at our first appointment, Selia listened to my vague descriptions and was able to pluck from her library of designs just the perfect dress. It was actually kind of amazing because it was the first dress she picked out for me. Notably, my budget was on the low side in comparison to Selia’s normal customer base, but she worked within my budget by suggesting that I try on style from a previous season. The moment I put it on, my expression completely changed because I instantly knew that this dress was «the one.»
At first Selia may seem really direct, even brusque, but trust me: she’s just focused in like a laser on making your dress the best it can be. Through the process of ordering & tailoring the dress, we got to know each other. Selia is all business because she cares a helluva lot about her craft, and will use her talents to accentuate the unique beauty of each bride.
Her eye and attention to detail is impeccable. When I arrived for my first fitting, I was so thrilled with the dress that I honestly could have walked out of her store that day and been perfectly satisfied. But Selia was able to hone in on a dozen tiny details around the bust, hips, etc. that I never would have noticed. Four fittings later, I now see it was all those «invisible» details that make the difference between a good dress and a great dress. So stay the course, ladies! Make sure you go through the three– to four-​step fitting process. It’s remarkable how much better the dress looks and feels now.
Quick anecdote which I hope illustrates why Selia deserves five stars. On the second fitting, Selia noticed how much I liked the accidental effect of some of the loose lace around the edge of the bodice, which was still being sewn up. So over the course of the next two fittings, Selia kept some of the lace trimmings and sewed them around the edge of the bodice, creating a gorgeous extra embellishment to the neckline. Again, I really appreciate Selia’s creativity and openness to constantly improving and customizing her designs for each bride.
What a unique experience to work with someone as talented as Selia. It’s also rare in this age of big box bridal stores to be able to work directly with the designer through every step of the process (even e-​mails go directly to her). Believe me, you will notice the difference in quality and experience. I can’t wait to walk down the aisle in her creation.

I went to 15 different stores (you name it, been there all) and I chose Selia Yang because I just fell in love with her dress. Her dresses are very elegant yet unique. She uses the best lace (my wedding planner could tell right away) and the quality is impeccable.
She recently moved to a new place, and I am a fan of her new place. I can get a personal attention in a more intimate, cozy setting. I am extremely happy with the dress I bought and her attention to detail is impeccable.
After all, you are talking to the designer, not the salesperson, from the very beginning to your very last fitting. That makes a HUGE difference as buying wedding dress is just a start of the process. You need to go through many fittings, and she knows what she’s doing as a top designer and can tailor the dress to your exact taste.

After visiting several wedding dress shops in NYC from the Kleinfelds to the mid-​size and quaint boutiques, there was really no question, Selia Yang was for me.
From the moment I walked up to her location in Tribeca I got a good vibe. It’s on a nice, quiet, up and coming block. The store exterior is classy and minimalist showcasing a couple stunning gowns at any given time. When you walk in the store is clean, calm and contemporary. A couple dozen or so gowns hang on each side of the room speaking for themselves. There are just the right amount of dress options. Not too few, not too many and as result you’re able to walk up and view the dresses, they’re not kept hidden in back, nor are the jammed and crammed together on racks.
Then you meet Selia, and if you’re lucky her sidekick Vivienne who, suspicious at first, turned out to be quite the lover (Vivienne is Selia’s small sweet dog and adds to the calm of the space). Selia immediately made a recommendation for three or so dresses to try on by looking at my shape and hearing what I was and wasn’t looking for — btw, if you are like me and want a dress with straps then go to Selia. So many of the shops I went into were absolutely perplexed when I said I wanted a dress WITH straps. They’d take me off to a corner and show me a a couple options at best, many of which were matronly. Selia has gorgeous dresses with straps that are absolutely sleek, sophisticated and original in this trend period of strapless dresses.
Needless to say when I tried on the Sophia gown, it was one of those moments like they say, when you know you know and I knew. I purchased the gown in the white lace. What both my mom and I loved about Selia’s work is the craftsmanship that you don’t get at the big shops. You can actually see the attention to detail in both the materials selected and the way she brings them together. Also, Selia’s veil options are stunning and I added one to the order. And the dress was SO comfortable. I’d heard so many friends complain about how heavy their dresses were. The silk lining was so luxurious and soft and the materials felt almost weightless while still having shape and being substantive.
And most importantly, Selia is lovely to work with. She also brings a soothing influence to the craziness that can surround weddings. She listens and wants you to be your best you and have your dress reflect the vibe you want for your wedding which can be done with specific tailoring, sash add-​ons etc. I live in NYC but my wedding was in SF where my parents live so my mom wasn’t going to be able to come with me to my fittings but she felt so good leaving me in Selia’s hands. She knew Selia would take good care of me and she did. Over the course of the fittings Selia and I formed a really nice relationship and it was always a delight going to see her. At my final fitting and pick-​up I was truly sad to say goodbye.
Also, one of the things I liked about the shop is that you are the only person there during your fitting with Selia. When you come in, she’s usually finishing up with the person before you so you may get to see that person in the dress and then they sometimes stick around to see you if you’re open to it. I got to meet so many other nice brides that way and share notes and get second opinions. It’s like a high-​end neighborhood shop vs. feeling like you take a number and still end up paying a fortune. You pay a fair amount for true value and craftsmanship direct from the designer.
My dress was stunning and exactly what I wanted. I couldn’t be happier. Thank you Selia.

I stopped by to meet the designer and owner Selia. She is so gracious and lovely. Really loved the collection. I can’t wait to bring over a few friends to check out the collection of elegant gowns that are so luscious. I am a wedding planner and Selia’s atelier offers the quiet space for a nervous bride to peruse and collect her thoughts as she selects the dress of her dreams.

I walked into Selia’s boutique after months of looking for a non-​white gown for my wedding reception. Everything I had seen was either an overpriced prom dress or something couture and stunning but many thousands of dollars over my budget. Selia has a great selection of white and non white dresses in stunning colors — the cuts are fashionable but timeless and all the dresses are made right there in her Tribeca studio.
Selia is a no nonsense business owner with a gorgeous boutique and personalized service — if you appreciate working with smart, successful business women Selia will be the right fit. She wont coo and hover over you like an eager saleswoman but she will be honest, constructive and totally helpful. I highly recommend her.

Growing up with the expectation that your wedding day had to be perfect made the search for THE wedding gown all that more nerve-​racking and stressful! I have gone to countless bridal shops and appointments after appointments… describing how I wanted my dress to look or feel, shown pictures of dresses I like and of course, there’s the budget. I wanted to get my value’s worth on what I was paying for. I found that many of these consultants didn’t really listen to what I wanted or made me feel special, I was just another bride looking for a dress. It didn’t feel personal and I felt pressured to make a decision right then and there, I was either limited by choices due to time constraints or by my budget.
I was at a dead end and thought that I had to settle for something that was good enough for the price… but was not THE dress. At this point I was tired of trying on anymore dresses and was considering to go back and get the best dress I tried on.
Selia Yang was introduced to me by my sister, she had found her online when she was searching for her wedding dress. I thought I would give this search another try.
I was very pleased with how Selia listened to what I wanted. As the know how in the business she also got to know me and used her expert judgment on what would flatter my figure. I instantly loved the first dress I tried on, however, because it was out my budget, Selia accommodated and found a close replica that was within my budget.
You know it’s the right dress when even your own eyes light up seeing yourself in THE dress.

The experience in Selia Yang was excellent every time when I visited there.
Her dresses are classic and elegant with excellent cutting and fabric. I placed my order to her on this early Feburary for my wedding. It was mermaid hemline with tight-​fit bustier. The dress came out on mid-​May, and it was so well-​made that my waist even looked smaller than usual. Every guest complimented me about my tiny waist and my gorgeous dress on my wedding.
Apart from the dress itself, the entire environment at Selia’s studio was serene and intimate. She only serves one customer at a time. So I get full attention from the designer herself.
If you are looking for a dress as well-​made as those big-​name designers like Elie Saab or Oscar de la Renta with reasonable price (although Selia’s dresses are still pricey, but they’re definitely masterpiece) and pleasant service, Selia Yang is where you must visit.

I bought my dress there. It was not cheap, but it was a marked down already.
Later, I did find out why it was marked down. The condition of the lace was on the edge, but it was too late. When you are in her fitting room, you serious could not see the flaw of the dress. Until your big day, in the dress walking all over the place with your photographer, then you realized no wonder Selia Yang was trying so hard to sell the dress, and I could have gotten a better deal for the condition of the fabric. There are lots of choices in her studio, don’t loose your brain when you are talking about money.
