ROYCE’ Chocolate – Bryant Park

Got some matcha dark chocolates (the non nama ones). Excellent flavors and not too sweet.
It’s also a bit more reasonable being 17 or 18 for 30 of em

The Maccha Nama chocolate is pretty good and I felt that it was worth the $ 18USD if it was your first time trying it. It’s a kind of chocolate that I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy for myself, but I would go and get it for somebody I knew who has never tried it and would appreciate the texture & subtle flavors of the Maccha Nama.
I also bought Maccha Bar Chocolate, $ 18USD. It’s wrapped in little mini single servings bars, like a single Kit Kat. it’s not very good. I don’t recommend these. It hurts my teeth. I bought it for my grandma and she couldn’t eat it! I was hoping it’d be like rice krispies but instead it was rock hard. Finishing 1 bar hurt my jaw. I realllly regretted buying these, should’ve just gotten another Nama. Word of the wise, don’t stray from the Nama.

I normally go to the Royce boutique 2 doors up from Minamoto Kitchoan on Madison Avenue But the Bryant Park boutique is on my way home via the Port Authority Bus Terminal So I go there when I need chocolates in the morning before they open for say gift giving or just to take home.
Royce is not a big name even though it is own by the same company that runs the Lady M boutiques I typically have to tell people about the Japanese origin and so on. But that cool because then people think I’m starter and more worldly than I actually am, Royce has about two dozen flavors and verities but Duo Praline, Maccha, and Tiramisu Cream Chocolate Wafers are my favorites.
All the chocolates are small pieces and the Tiramisu Wafers size are also small, and all the chocolates are all bite size. But I can tell you that the taste of the Tiramisu Wafers was like a smooth chocolate that I never had before not just the Tiramisu flavor. I could definitely taste the cappuccino which went well with the white chocolate and wafer. The Maccha have a unique smooth taste also.
My coworkers try it and loved it all of the Royce’s I bring back to the Office and more than in my own home which is unfortunate cause otherwise I would buy more. The cost is not cheap you get 8 or ten pieces for about $ 17 a box, And the boxes are not fancy like some of the Godiva or Neuhaus boxes are but still look like they are special.
I definitely go back from time to time to get a box and maybe try a new flavor.

I got gifts from this place and was told that I’m gonna taste the best chocolate I’ve ever had… So I’m pretty happy, I don’t know the price tag though, I assume it is pricy? lol

They staff is extremely helpful and polite. They made selecting a good gift a breeze and wrapped everything up very nicely for a perfect presentation. Totally clean and sleek aesthetic which was perfect for a work gift and they made sure I knew the storage instructions.
I know the gift was well received.

I found myself in this chocolate world not knowing what to choose from… what a decadent and attractive selection! The salesperson was friendly and offered suggestions based on my preferences for chocolate. This very neatly packed shop had all the Royce chocolates I wanted to try after exploring their selection online. I saved myself some money by purchasing in store since they have hefty shipping fees but I’d still order from them if I could care less about cost.
I tried a few samples in store (Nama chocolates, chocolate covered marshmallows, and chocolate covered potato chips) + the salesperson did not hesitate to offer samples for the first timer. I ended up with the Royce Nama Maccha, Nama Champagne (Pierre Mignon), and Rum Raisin chocolate bar to bring home and enjoy. Best part is you can request for an ice pack and insulated package to wrap your goods in for travel, all free of charge. Not only were the chocolates a special treat, but also something I will remember. They are surely a popular choice amongst Japanese chocolate lovers and I can now say I’m one of them.

Staff here is quite nice. They had samples of a chocolate with orange liqueur as well as their white chocolate potato chips. The former was quite delicious while the later had a unique texture though i think Milk Chocolate would work better as White is a bit too sweet. (Or perhaps a more salted potato chip?)
Anyway, I got 2 bars to bring home, a «milky» chocolate and a dark chocolate with almonds. The former had a perfect texture while the later had some amazing flavors. The dark chocolate was better than almost any I’ve had before while the former reminded me of a really good Cadbury. The former was 9 dollars and the later was 8.
Both were excellent but the prices are high. It’s not one of those, «hey buy a bar and much on it» type of places but what they offer is excellent.

Je suis à l’aise avec les friandises de masse. Mais lorsque le chocolat est déployé sur un socle retenant sa statue, haut sur son trôné d’or, le rapport de force m’est soudainement défavorable.
J’étais un peu gêné d’être là, au beau milieu d’une boutique qui s’ajuste par ses étalages refrigérés, temperature contenue à niveau. Le comble de l’excès vient de l’usage d’un sac thermal pour emporter l’achat. Semble-​t-​il que la manipulation affecte l’intégrité du chocolat. Je n’ai pas pris goût au Nama au thé vert. Texture crémeuse silmilaire au truffle. Meh.
Pour ceux qui ont acquis la conscience de jouir de l’opulence, Royce’ devrait être sur votre liste.

UNBELIEVABLE CHOCOLATE. The chocolates here are different than your usual chocolates. They are soft, rich, and creamy. They are made with fresh ingredients. It’s like eating a hybrid between a chocolate and fudge. It’s decadent and truly incredible. The service at this particular location was unparalleled. I walked in and asked if they had the option to get several flavors in one box, but they did not do that. I told them I just wanted to try them all! I settled on the dark chocolate and went to pay. The woman behind the counter (who I had spoken to before) asked me what flavors I haven’t tried yet. I told her the chocolate with champagne or the matcha. She opened up a fridge behind her and I asked her if she was about to make my day! And she did! She brought those out and gave me samples! They were amazing. I stuck with what I chose because husband and I just bought a Malbec that would pair perfectly with these. The chocolates are given to you with a cold pack and in a special bag in order to keep them fresh. Such great service this store offers. These chocolates are incredible. Just literally, to die for. I truly need the whole world to know how great these are. My inly regret is that I didn’t catch the woman’s name who helped me so much so I could shout her out here! I went on 1÷9÷16 around 4pm so whomever was working then; she surely deserves a raise!!!

OMG… they are pricey, but they have great chocolate. I originally went in to buy it as a gift, but then I tried it and was hooked. They have samples if you ask. They have alcohol in their chocolate… it’s pretty amazing. Again, it will cost you about $ 18 for a small box. It makes a nice gift for people that appreciate chocolate.

Kinda disappointed bc they didn’t have any samples for me to try. I just got whatever, needless to say, best chocolate ever! So soft and creamy, melts in your mouth. Please open one in the south!

I swung by this shop a while ago and was greeted by a friendly staff member who was the only one in the shop front.
I’ve not had ROYCE chocolate prior to visiting the shop. I got the free Matcha green tea chocolate as a sampler from checking in on Unilocal.I love that their chocolate is not overwhelmingly sweet and definitely has a Japanese flair to its chocolate making process as well as wrapping and presentation which I love.
Definitely adding ROYCE to my gift list for my chocolate lover friends!

Smooth creamy chocolate, not too sweet. A box of nama chocolate is $ 18 for 20 small square pieces. Worth the splurge for Christmas gift. The staff is very polite. Packed my boxes of chocolate with the dry ice packs and wrapped them up in a pretty red bag.
I also got the tiramisu wafer cookies ($ 17 for 12? 15? individually wrapped square cookie bites). Very fresh wafers but I wasnt too crazy about the tiramisu cream. It was normal. R liked it, but next time I’ll stick to their chocolate since thats what they’re known for.
Checked in on Unilocal but they were out of the free box of chocolates everyone mentioned :(maybe because I went after work right before they were closing and it was right before Christmas.

Japanese chocolate. I can assure you, you’ve never had anything like it. When you walk into the store they have a refrigerator stocked with their speciality chocolate. They have white, dark, milk, and macha, among other flavors. They do offer tastings so don’t be afraid to ask. They also have other chocolate products like chocolate covered almonds, chocolate covered marshmallows and chips.
Be prepared to lay out some moo-​lah. The chocolate is very rich, so it’s easy to make it last a couple days and not eat it in one sitting. The store isn’t easy to spot unless you know to look for it.

I stopped at the Bleeker street location (there are 3 in NYC) and purchase a small box for myself (Venezuela bitter and Ghana sweet) and OMG! I returned to buy four $ 17 boxes for offices mates. What a great product, soft, tasty, delicious chocolate and the highest density in bitter that you can get (about 80 – 90). My friend could not stop eating them!
The $ 17 box makes a great gift for the Holidays!

Different cultures around the world are good at doing different things, and the Japanese are first rate at crafting any consumer-​driven experience, certainly to include chocolate.
I spent too many dollars buying Royce chocolates while in Japan, and I continued that tradition today. The creamiest, dreamiest, richest chocolates served by a staff trained in Japanese mannerisms.
True to Japanese form, the kind guy working there tried running after me when I left my shopping bag at their store, clearly too distracted with buying chocolates…
Try a sample, leave with a pack! They’re not cheap ($ 18), but they’re definitely a great way to set the mood, nawutimsayin’? :p

Exactly what I uttered when I placed one of the nama maccha cube in my mouth. It literally melted and was sweet but bitter at the same time.
The service was superb as I arrived with no one in the store. They were so considerate to give one of my nama chocolates with the 7 hour cooling as I intended to give it as a gift to my friend and did not know the rest of her plans for the day. Whereas I was fine with the 3 hour cooling. The free checkin didn’t hurt as well cause it was just more chocolate goodies for me.
Royce is expensive but it is worth the cost for a purchase once in a while. I know I’ll definitely be back to try the other nama chocolate line and to purchase other goodies from this store.

Not the biggest fan of this Japanese-​style chocolate shop. The popular Nama chocolates didn’t taste all that different from green tea kit-​kats to me, though the fudgey texture was nice. I was appalled at how much sugar the so-​called «dark chocolate» bar contained. This is not a place to go if you are used to traditional European chocolates or like your dark chocolate to contain above 70% cacao. Also, is it really necessary to employ a security guard to watch your every move as you browse the shop? It felt incredibly pretentious given that Maison du Chocolat, which crafts a far more premium product, doesn’t even bother with that.

The staff handed back my credit card with both hands. I was in gym shorts. Need I say more?
Oh, the chocolates are delicious. They also include an ice pack for their signature raw chocolates, very much appreciated in the dead of summer.

After you try their chocolate, especially green tea mocha– you would never want to eat anything else in your life. Unique and absolutely exquisite texture and the mind blowing combination of chocolate and green tea are to die for!!!
The service is really good and welcoming too.
Definitely going to come back here and try to taste all of their products!

Love this chocolate shop from Japan!
I particularly like the Nama Chocolate (Matcha is good, but too sweet for me to have more than 3 pieces at a time; I prefer Champagne). They’re little rectangles of soft, milky chocolate that practically melt in your mouth. They put it in a cooling bag if you purchase a box, so that your chocolate doesn’t melt (these do melt quickly due to how soft they are).
I also like the Semi-​Bitter Chocolate Covered Potato Chips!
ROYCE is extremely expensive for what you get, but they act as good gifts. Make sure to ask for samples before purchasing!
I received a free mini-​sized Nama Matcha last week due to a Unilocal check-​in, but the cashier was really snooty about it, which turned me off.

Walking into Royce is like stepping into a fancy shop selling watches– the staff wear suits, the counters are smooth and flawless, and the sweets are displayed in an OCD-​like organized fashion. They don’t sell a huge variety, but quality and uniqueness make up for that! :). They also offer samples, so don’t be afraid to ask!
If you’re going to be out and about, they provide ice packs with a cooling bag for one type of their chocolates (the refrigerated ones), which is a super nice touch. Gift bag, a ribbon, and a golden seal that touts its magnificence. My parents said it the texture is like ice cream and enjoyed it, definitely an achievement for parents who complain that everything is too sweet!

I’m officially in love.
I got the matcha nama under recommendations from other Unilocalers. I haven’t really tried the other flavors yet, but I will in the future.
The nama melts in your mouth and the texture is very soft. You can’t help but to reach for another until the entire box is done. And that’s how you know that it’s a must to get.

The smoothest, richest chocolate I have ever had — but not overwhelming to the palate at all. I’ve tried the bitter and the matcha green tea. Both are absolutely delicious, but my favorite has to be the bitter, which has a hint of Hennessy.
$ 18/​box for 20 pieces. If you are traveling, they include mini reusable ice packs that will keep your chocolates cool for up to 10 hours. Each little square melts in your mouth and is an indulgence… I challenge you to eat only one!

I’m a lover of all things sweet, chocolates especially. And not too far behind from the Swiss, this Japanese treat is one of the best chocolates I’ve ever had!
I’ve tried the Bitter, Ghana Bitter, Mild Cacao, Matcha Green Tea, and Champagne flavored chocolates. My personal favorites are the Matcha Green Tea and Champagne. Each flavor is so exquisite and unique, it was hard to pick a favorite and even harder to believe that they are only about 32 calories apiece!
This store in particular is very tiny and immaculate. They do let you sample the flavors if they have an open box. Each chocolate square is so melty and smooth, you’ll need to take a moment to relish and savor that bite. The box also includes a cute mini utensil; honestly I get way too excited and just can’t help but to grab them right out with my bare hands!
If you are traveling or just not going home right away, they give you ice packs and a light temperature-​controlled container that can allow it to be kept cool for up to 10 hours!
They also sell other treats that are chocolate-​covered such as cookies, wafers, potato chips, nuts, popcorn, etc. Along with a variety of other chocolate candy.
Forget flowers– Ladies want ROYCE chocolate ;)

I visited a few days before Valentine’s Day, so they had two limited editions: a hazelnut liquor and a champagne. I was able to sample both, which were both quite delicious. But I ended up getting the green tea, which I had came here for. The box is $ 18 and comes with 20 pieces. Absolutely delicious. It’s made with soy and liquor, and it just melts in your mouth. The price is higher than most chocolates because it is shipped from Japan. When you check out, they pack the box with a cooling bag and a gel pack, since it needs to be refrigerated. The chocolates last about a month if kept cool.
The location is right next to Lady M, but the actual door is hard to find. You have to go inside a company lobby and it’s on the left. Be careful of the heavy door!
Overall the chocolate is fantastic and slightly expensive. Worth it for an occasional splurge. Enjoy!

I picked up a white chocolate bar and I really like it. It isn’t too sweet and the flavor is just right. I think their bars are really popular because they were all sold out aside from a few white chocolate bars.
The lady working there was really friendly. I’m definitely going to try the Nama chocolate the next time I visit.

How can you not love wonderfully smooth chocolate that melts in your mouth like a warm kiss? I had gone into this store before looking for the matcha chocolate and didn’t buy it because it was white chocolate. Silly me to have waited to be gifted with a box of their champagne chocolates. These dark little rectangles, packed in their keep fresh bag, were exquisite. And as is requisite with the Japanese, beautifully packaged with a mini spatula to lift out the rectangles. And yes, they are small pieces but one piece satisfies because of the quality of the chocolate. You savor the flavor on your tongue as you would a fine wine – the champagne chocolate had a subtle richness and just a delightful mouth feel. I gave Royce only four stars not five because of the pared down, minimalist aesthetics of the chocolates. But for taste only, five stars definitely.
The store on Bryant Park is small, and seems clinical for a chocolatier but the friendly salespeople I’ve had compensated. The chocolates are well worth a trip.

Forget Godiva, forget Lindt, forget Neuhaus, Leonidas and Pierre Marcolini.
You need to try Royce, yes it’s just that damn good.
I was lucky enough to get a tour of the place from Ken, who’s the owner of Royce Chocolate USA. Psssst he also owns Lady M which is right next door! ;)
I was a little bummed out that the maccha nama was out of stock again, if you ever go to Royce get the maccha nama!!! This is my 2^nd time visiting the shop and its been a span of 2 weeks and its still sold out! It must be hella flippin’ good to be out of stock like that!
I had samples of their other nama chocolates, each and every one is special in their own way, but they definitely melt in your mouth and its like a mousse, the white chocolate is a little bit more buttery.
After narrowing down my options, which was quite hard since I wanted to buy everything! A lot of their maccha flavored products were sold out which was upsetting :(Better luck next time I guess. For all you readers, definitely get something maccha from here since it’s a rare commodity.
In the end, I ended up having the maccha chocolate almonds, rum raisin bar and duo maccha praline. I tried the maccha almonds and duo pralines and they were amazing! The pralines are wrapped beautifully as individual pieces. There’s too layers of maccha inside once you take a bite. The top layer is a bit thicker where the bottom later is like a glaze. The maccha almonds were great, not as melt in your mouth like the nama chocolates but the key highlight is the maccha flavors.
I shared the chocolate almonds with my mother, who usually despises sweets, she just never had a sweet tooth but she wasn’t opposed to the chocolate maccha almonds and you know what happened?
Her eyes lit up, yes they lit up and she asked me for seconds.
And THAT’S how you know you have to try Royce, at least once in your life. It’s worth it just to even have a sample, you don’t have to purchase anything. Although once you have it, there’s no way you wouldn’t want to share it with others.
Chocolate this good is almost too good to be true, but nope, it’s Royce :) What dreams are made of!
