I have never slapped a man with fake chest hair before, but yesterday, I wanted to.
«Do you sell fake chest hair?» I asked the employee standing by the wigs.*
He thought for a second. «Nope.»
“Do you have wigs that would work as fake chest hair?”
«Nope.»
Ah, well. As I turned to leave, one of the wig packages caught my eye. It was a «Disco Kit» that included a moustache, sideburns, and a hairy chest. RIGHT NEXT TO THE EMPLOYEE. I literally had to reach past him to pull it off the wall. I showed it to him, which elicited no reaction.
I wish I could say that I have rarely encountered such utter indifference, such a blatant, unashamed lack of interest in the job a person is paid to do… but it’s actually pretty common in most chains.
Ricky’s might have a decent, predictably overpriced selection of all sorts of pre-​packaged costumes, but don’t expect even the bare minimum of assistance from the staff. For a better selection, and a staff that I’ve found helpful, try Halloween Adventure on 4^th Ave.
