Redge Annex

Redge helped me out and referred me to Regina because the person (also Redge) who usually cuts my hair won’t be in NY for some time.
Really pleased with my short, straight haircut (which most haircutters easily butcher), the undercut action at the back, and the pre-​cut shampoo and massage. It looks like she really read my hair. I’m really shy and Regina was super friendly and easy to talk to.
Hoping the cut will stay straightish as it grows out.
Overall, glad Redge & Redge Annex exist!

Redge Annex (and the regular Redge salon, though I prefer the Annex because it’s smaller and adorable-​r) is my go-​to salon. I’ve had my hair cut by several people, and although they vary in skill, I generally leave satisfied. The hairdressers rotate between locations so call to see where your preferred one is. Everyone I’ve encountered is super sweet and welcoming.
I had a cut yesterday by Regina, who is outstanding. She clearly understands hair, and it shows in her meticulous work. She gave me one of the best cuts of my life, and she’s patient and friendly to boot. Definitely try to catch her at the Annex.
Cuts are around $ 60-​$ 70 for medium-​long length hair, though it varies depending on what you get. Reasonable for a good cut.

A newb to professional hair color, a friend of a friend recommended Koko. After exchanging a few texts, Koko was able to set an appointment for me the next day. I liked Redge Annex’s cozy and unpretentious environment and welcoming staff. Koko was very helpful as I scrolled through multiple inspiration photos, explaining what she would have to do for each look to match my hair type. She was meticulous and explained every step as she was doing it, putting my newb self at ease. Both the ombré hair color and cut turned out much better than I had envisioned. The neck and shoulder massage was also a great bonus!

They offered me the best price for an ombré out of the million east village salons AND did a fantastic job. I brought in one picture and they were able to match it closely with just one process and tone. I will be back and I can’t wait to see what they can do with cuts.

Koko is a GENIUS. I am super platinum blonde (coming from a dirty blonde) and have never had someone do such a precise, beautifully white-​blue-​blonde with no trace of yellow-​orange brassiness SO CONSISTENTLY.
I’ve been going for two years and will NEVER go to anyone else, so long as I can keep Koko in NYC.
She is amazing. 11 stars!

Amazing work by Regina who is in this location I believe only Wed, Thurs aNd Fridays. She listens to what you want and always is honest with her opinions and suggestions. She is usually spot on. The ONLY reason I am not giving 5 stars is due to the fact that as far as color and cut she is truly a work of art… When it comes to the styling aspect I am not blown away. I only say this because I always leave there with totally flat hair. Perhaps I will mention something the next time. I do have fine, thin hair, totally not Regina’s fault but I can even style my hair better.
Oh and my sister went to her for the first time last month and she was and still is completely satisfied!

Regina is the best. I have been going to her for years, and I’ve brought family and friends to her too!

I’ve been getting my hair cut by Regina for almost 6 years. She is amazing! She has always been professional, on time, affordable and a great stylist. You don’t get better than this!

After hearing such great things about Redge, I came in a couple of months ago for a haircut scheduled with Regina, as i had heard great things about her. When i got there, they told me to wait to be seated, and eventually a Japanese man took me to his chair… no Regina in sight! This man who cut my hair had arrived from Japan recently and spoke VERY poor english, it was difficult to communicate with him what I wanted since he just repeated what i said and nodded– even though I was just asking for a basic haircut. I didnt feel like he did a very good job and left unimpressed, but held my tounge and hoped i would grow into it… this didnt happen. A couple of weeks later when i went to get a brazilian blowout at a different salon, my stylist unprovoked told me i needed to get a haircut because my ends were in bad shape. I told him i just received one, and he advised that I should not have paid money for whatever I received, since my ends were super uneven and that the cut was not good quality — he asked me if my hair was getting tangled a lot at the ends and he said yes, it was due to the unfinished job with my hair.
Sorry Redge, but I was extremely disappointed in both the bait and switch, as well as the poor haircut.

Regina is a great hairstylist, I used to have my hair cut by her at the original Redge salon on 10^th St. and love going to her newer spot. The salon is a simple and pleasant affair, and it has a nice relaxed atmosphere. I always feel like my hair has received a substantial amount of attention and care when I’m there, and I like the fact that it’s a predominantly scissor cutting process when my hair is worked on. Regina and her staff are super friendly and there’s always plenty to talk about while I’m sitting in the chair. Finding someone to work on my hair was always difficult until I went to Redge, so I highly recommend going there and giving them a chance.

i love my hair cut at redge annex! Kotoko cut my hair exactly how I wanted and I will go back! She was so sweet and i felt so comfortable there as I was getting a cut done, she spoke to me about a lot of things to make me feel at ease. I rarely give great ratings for salons, but the money was well worth it!!! go to Kotoko!!!

Regina really understands hair! I’ve been coming here for years and she always give me a great cut. She listens and remembers my requirements. The staff is always friendly and last time I got a great head massage during washing. So relaxing, I did not know how I was going to get home!

If I could love this hair salon, my hair stylist Emi and my friend who reccomended me this place any more, I would.
You know the satisfaction that you get when you eat a good meal or when you watch a good movie or when the dress from your favorite store fits you like it was made for you? Well, I never got that feeling ever when I got my haircut from any place for last dizillion times until I found Redge Annex and my stylist Emi.
Emi takes 1.5 hours to the least to give you a haircut. Compared to the expensive/​unsatisfactory places in the city, Redge Annex is affordable when it comes to the quality of service you get here. I haven’t been to a Salon beside Redge Annex that gives you a 15 min head, neck and shoulder massage on top of the hair massage, shampoo and conditioner. Their stylist are very experienced, skilled and communicative. They inspect you hair, they explain to you every move they are going to take with your hair and they give you a great haircut.
I always leave this place with a new look, big smile and more to look forward to.

Tomoko, who is at Redge Annex now, has been cutting my hair for over a decade. This is the third salon that I have followed her to. Needless to say, I am a big big fan.
She works with your hair type and gives you great advice and pointers on styling. For instance, my hair is naturally wavy but not in the direction I would like… Tomoko cuts well appointed layers into my hair so that my natural wave works with the style! Its like magic! As for the salon itself, it is a nice and tranquil space.

In a neighborhood filled with great hair salons, Redge is a standout. The staff are all super talented professionals that make getting a cut something to look forward to. You sit down with anything from a cup of tea to an offer of whiskey depending on the time of day.
My stylist was Emi who began with a killer neck and shoulder massage then proceeded to give me one of the best cuts I ever had.
Tomoko has also cut my hair many times and many times and many compliments later
In the past I have bounced around to lots of different hair cutters but I consistently come back to the place because they’re simply the best

I normally get my haircut for $ 35 – 40 in Koreatown or on Broad Ave in Pal Park, NJ, so it was a little out of my comfort zone to pay a little extra for a haircut. Upon high recommendation from my sister and brother-​in-​law, I went to Redge to get repair work done after a terrible haircut from another salon, and Redge worked wonders. She examined my hair, asked me lots of questions and really got to know my hair and my regimen before she laid her fingers on it.
I walked out feeling so pretty and absolutely loved the miracle she worked on my hair. She turned me from shaggy, choppy to sleek and bobbed. Thank you, Redge! Will be back!

New location is on 7^th St., between 1^st and 2^nd. It replaces the original Redge salon on 10^th St. The Annex is still open as well, on Ave. A.

So here’s the deal, I didn’t get my hair cut — so giving 5 stars on is cheating. I have ruined an otherwise perfect 5 star review for RA. If you’re deciding on getting your hair cut there, they have received great reviews.
I was getting headshots done nearby on a Monday night, so I decided to look for salons around the area the Saturday afternoon immediately before (brilliant, huh). Actually, I had researched during the week on the various salons around the area and found that Dlala also did makeup, and since I am only slightly comfortable with doing my on makeup, if I’m going to drop $ on headshots, I better look good.
Anyways, I went into Dlala, and talked to the girl about making a hair styling appointment for Monday. She informed me (and after checking with stylists at Dlala) that it was too last minute, completely understandable. But she called Redge Annex and Emi said she would be able to fit me in. Keep in mind people, I asked for an appointment two days before, for a time one hour before they close. I’m a monster. The girl at the counter took me outside to direct me to where it is, so I can find it better, and thanked me for coming (no hunny, thank you!).
I then wandered by the store and stood outside — just double checking with Dlala’s website that they do indeed do makeup before I commit another injustice. I go into RA, and speak to who I now know is Emi. She is completely sweet and I explained that I just made the appointment for Monday night for hair styling, but I saw online that they also do makeup (it says by consultation only), would it be possible to fit that in as well? She looked… how can I say… understadingly hesitant to give me a positive answer, but didn’t exactly want to turn me away. She said that they may not be able to do it, and asked if I would still keep my appointment. I gave the look of «I know I’m being a pain,» but said «I MAY have to cancel.» So she asked me to sit and wait while she called Dlala (I assume), who I told her that they don’t have anyone free. She then asked (who I now know as) Atsuko, who was washing a client’s hair, and Atsuko said she could do it. Emi comes back to me, honestly about 5 minutes of waiting, and this poor girl asking people, and planning in her head this whole time how this would work. But she came back with a yes! Goddess.
I arrive about 5 min late on Monday (horrible, horrible person!), and Emi went to work on me right away. Washing and massaging my head (heaven!). Atsuko had told Emi to have me bring my makeup on Saturday, and I did. Atsuko pokes around my giant box (after really asking kindly if she could), and brings out her own set. I think she had me bring it to see what I prefer because her stuff ended up being waaay better than mine. I only gave them both a vague notion of what I wanted — hair: volume and wavy, but not crazy curley… Makeup: …er…natural? *points at Atsuko’s eye makeup” I like how you did your eyes! NOT EVEN PICTURES! Seriously, I feel like I was the client from hell.
They both started to work on me right away — Emi blow dried my hair
while Atsuko prepped my face. I should also mention, that they asked ME when I had to get to the shoot by. Me. Taking up THEIR time before they CLOSED, and they were worried about ME. WHAT?
It took both of them a little over an hour to do both my hair and makeup. Atsuko is AMAZING. I have had my makeup done by professional MUAs before and save for only once, my eyes have very rarely come with me LOVING them (single eyelids, what are you going to do?). She also worked magic on my eyelashes so I didn’t even need to use the fake eyelashes that I brought. My eyelashes aren’t the stereotypical Asian-​short/​sparse. But it is by no means close to ideal. She was a pro with the eyelash curler (she used two, one smaller), and used the pro technique of clamping down and out — longest anyone has ever spent on my eyelashes, really. She ended up using two types of mascara for me, the second which was heated — awesome. I really need to go back and ask her about the products she used on me. She made me look natural and pretty, and of the at least 15 other people who have done my makeup, only one other person was able to do that before Atsuko — and it didn’t feel nearly as light.
Emi was really thorough with my hair. Blew dry my hair with a rough curling brush. So it was naturally wavy, as promised, and voluminous. I have bangs that I’m not too fond of because it keeps falling into my face, so I had to keep asking her to push it back, and she so kindly did.
Hair $ 50, Makeup $ 50. Charged it by going to Redge (though they really prefer only cash), tipped each of them in cash.
Also, Emi informed me that Dlala, Redge, and Redge Annex are owned by the same people, and the stylists seem to float between the three. All three have received great reviews, so I don’t know why you wouldn’t go to one.

I actually go to the Redge Annex on Avenue A between 10^th and 11^th but all 3 Redge salons are operated by Anil who makes sure to hire only the best stylists. So far I’ve only had my hair cut by Tomoko (which I loved, by the way) but have met the infamous Regina and a few other employees.
The space, the people, the vibe … everything gels so excellently! These are neighborhood establishments that absolutely add to the awesome that is Alphabet City.

I followed her from her original Redge store on 10^th St. btwn 1^st Ave and Ave A. The annex is a relatively new location to attract more foot traffic to her booming business.
Regina works wonders with my hair. She’s very interesting to watch and she works her magic on my thick and uncompromising hair. She’s such a perfectionist and I feel like she somehow sees every strand of hair and coaxes it into working for her.
It’s always been hard for me to find a good hair dresser that I can trust and I’m so happy that I’ve finally found someone! She really knows how to work with asian hair.
