Quality Inn Convention Center

I will not be back.
We were exhausted from traveling and arrived at the hotel a little early around 1pm. We were reminded that check in time was 3pm so we waited quietly with our bags in the lobby while the staff stood around complaining about customers they had interacted with that week. We asked again at 2:45pm if our room was ready and they said we had to wait until 3pm on the dot…
After we checked in, we spent another 15mins waiting for the elevator. When we finally got to our room we went to the bathroom to wash our faces but when we turned on the sink, there was something wrong with the pump and it sounded like a machine gun and vibrated the whole room. We also found hair in the bed. The AC unit turned off by itself in the middle of the night so we woke up in pools of our own sweat.
The only good thing (+1 star) about this hotel is the free breakfast in the mornings from 6:30 — 9:30am. There was a lot of variety — waffles, cereal, oatmeal, eggs, sausage, fruit, bagels, danishes & muffins, coffee, tea, and juice.
Also, be sure to check your credit card statements. Before our trip to NY, the hotel charged me more than what was in the confirmation email I received for the reservation. Then a few days after I checked out, there was an unauthorized charge from this hotel on my credit card bill.
There are plenty of other options in the city with better prices, service, and location (i.e. Hotel Wolcott).

I stayed at this Inn for about 8 nights. The pros are that the rooms, albeit very small, are very clean and the bathrooms aren’t too bad. The cons outweigh the pros though. First off, the hotel is in a very sketchy neighborhood and the smell outside of the hotel can get very disgusting. There is only one entrance and one tiny elevator which takes forever to get you to and from your room. One of the most annoying parts to me was that there wasn’t any water or ice or cups on any of the floors. If you need any of that stuff, you have to go all the way down to the lobby to get that (yes, even a small glass of water). Also, there were multiple days when the water machine just wouldn’t work. I don’t know if they unplugged it or what but no water was available for the guests. They had this small water cooler near the front desk and one day, we were leaving our room at 11am and we didn’t see the water cooler. We asked someone at the front desk and they said the person bringing the water was running late or some excuse like that so we couldn’t fill up our water bottle. Really? It’s 11am and hot as hell and you can’t even afford to give your guests water? And the guy at the front desk didn’t think it was too big a deal when I got upset that there was no water. Out of the 8 days that I was there, I only had breakfast once and the breakfast wasn’t really breakfast. You are better off grabbing a grilled cheese sandwich down the street at one of the cafes.
They also charged me hidden fees. They charged me $ 27 for some odd reason which the lady at the front desk told me would be reimbursed but that hasn’t happened yet. They also charged me $ 14 for using the safe in the room. Nowhere did it say about being charged a daily fee for using it– not at the front desk, not on the paper that tells you how to set your code for the safe. And they also charged me like $ 2.50 on the last day and I have no clue what it’s for but am not going to bother fighting with them.
So at the end of the day, the room is small but comfortable enough. But I don’t think I would stay here in the future. It’s not like the room was super cheap or anything. After all the taxes and fees, I ended up paying about $ 170 per night. I think I would rather pay an extra $ 30-​$ 50 per night and get a better hotel.

First half day we had to plunge the toilet after anyone went. They came and snaked it– which was great but left a mess (a brown mess) another half day. Now the elevator only works some of the time and the tv can’t get a signal. Now I know why it was so cheap. avoid unless you have too!

When I think of the Quality Inn Midtown West (Convention Center), the word that comes to mind is «enough.» As in it is enough to keep you satisfied. I would not take my wife here for a romantic one-​night getaway, but I would (and have) taken my wife here for a one day escape to NYC at a reasonably affordable budget point.
Interesting to note that there are only 4 rooms on each floor, so you are VERY close to each of your neighbors.
Pros:
+ Location is within walking distance to Times Square, and all of the other tourist destinations near there.
+ Free continental breakfast contained reasonable hot and cold items.
+ Free WiFi was very fast (12MB download)
+ Clean facilities
Cons:
— Small rooms
— Only provided 1 soap bar
— Slow elevators
— If your room faces West 36, you can definitely hear the street noise, even if you are on a higher floor. Indoors, the walls and doors are somewhat thin so if you leave your TV on, you can definitely hear it in the hallway.

Worst hotel experience ever!
When I checked in at night, I specifically asked the staff if I could check out slightly later than the usual 12pm check-​out time. The staff told me I could extend my check out until 2pm. I was grateful initially for the convenience. I went out early the other morning and came back around 1pm to check out. When I came back, the room key didn’t work. I went downstairs to check the room key. The staff told me I was checked out. I asked by whom. He said it’s the friend who was with me. That’s absurd! I sent my friend to the airport early in the morning, I was with him the whole time and he didn’t even have the room key! All of my belongings were not packed in the room, including laptops, purses, and some personal stuff. I requested to go back to the room to check. The person who companied me going back confessed that he clearly heard the front desk staff asking the room service to pack all my stuff into the bag and take it out. It’s basically a forced check-​out, even without my presence! I don’t know how things work when you are late for check-​out. But it DEFINITELY shouldn’t be like this-​going over my stuff and throwing everything in one bag. And technically I wasn’t even late!
Anyways, this is no doubt the worst experience ever. If you want any respect, any privacy, don’t come here!

so my friend originally booked this hotel for her crew but gave me the booking because she found a bigger hotel for group. now compared to the last hotel i stayed at the best part was the location literally a 5 – 10 minute walk to the javits center. the staff was very helpful. what i did not care for was that my phone did not work had no dial tone so trying to get a hold of the front desk required me to go downstairs. they told me the hallway phone would work but it didn’t. so our toilet was weird one night and clogged. since the phones were NOT working the helpful front desk woman told me that there was a plunger on every floor in the stair well [weird i know ] so i shot back up to my floor and found NO plunger i ended up having to walk up 3 flights of stairs to find a plunger. there should a plunger in every room no questions asked. the plug outlets need to be more safer. they had holes and they had loose connections. my tv didn’t work i had to have someone fix it. other than the friendly staff and location i’d say its was decent. the pillows were not comfy at all. the bed was okay. and they need sound proof walls because a lot of people came back to their hotel room as around 3 am and were laughing and yelling and i heard everything
Stayed October 2014, traveled with friends

Stayed here during comic con and let me tell you this is really a great choice for your convention going types… the Javitz is only a block and a half away and this place offers a small breakfast, wifi, and luggage storage all included in the price.
The staff were extremely nice and quickly sent up someone to fix the phone (which was really more a matter of me not knowing how to use the line 1 line 2 system), sent up a new remote when the original went missing after housekeeping did their thing, was understanding at a chairs mysterious breakage and a potential grease stain from a calzone box. They also gave me the straight up answers I was looking for as far as good food and delivery in the area.
The room was sorta small with VERY limited clothing storage but it was neat, clean, and appealing looking.. Bathroom was a nice size and clean as well. Elevator felt slow but manageable.
I’d stay here again.

The staff here was excellent. I went to the city with a friend for a trade show and the front desk clerk (I can’t remember her name now and its a shame) was amazing. She spent like 20 minutes with us talking about where this and that was and really helped us out with making our weekend trip awesome!
The breakfast hey serve is not as good as other hotels but the inclusion of that was a very small part of why we chose that hotel.
The room was a decent size, the bed was comfortable, the location to the convention center and restaurants was perfect!

BASIC BUT ACCEPTABLE
Quality Inn was our first stop during our visit to NYC. As mentioned in the title, the hotel was basic but acceptable. We arrived in early February right in the middle of all the snow and cold weather. As soon as we arrived, I was a little put off by the entrance. Trash was piled in front of the hotel and the sidewalks were covered with ice. Of course, the hotel staff and management don’t control mother nature, but I was a little surprised that no one seemed to make any effort to keep the area in front of the hotel clear of snow and ice.
We stayed several nights and overall the hotel had what we needed. The room was small, but with only two of us, it was fine. The bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom were clean. The hotel’s saving grace in my opinion was the breakfast. NYC is expensive, so being able to save a few dollars each day on breakfast was nice. Wifi was also a plus and had no issues.
The hotel seemed to fall short in the area of service. The staff –with the exception of a friendly houseman who helped with our bags — seemed rather indifferent. Perhaps, the stormy weather had them feeling blue. But again, they were ‘adequate’. When we asked them a question they would give us an answer, but that was about all. They were not the kind of staff that goes above and beyond or even gives out smiles often.
Speaking of service, on the day of our departure, I asked the front desk if they could get us a taxi (we had a lot of bags and the sidewalk outside was still covered with snow and ice). I was told by the front desk that wasn’t possible in NYC. The only suggestion we were offered was to just go outside (with all of our luggage) and flag one down (and of course the way the hotel sits on 36^th, empty taxi’s might take a few minutes to catch. After about 10 minutes of no luck, my fiancé ended up having to leave me in front of the hotel and walk to the corner to catch a cab and get the cabby to turn down 36^th. What’s more, at our next hotel (not Quality Inn), the doorman was more than happy to get us a cab any time we needed one, and it didn’t seem like we were bothering him to do it.
The hotel was close enough to Time Square although there are not a lot of eatery options in the immediate block.
Again the savings were great but we did leave wishing the overall experience had been a little better.

Although many guests I came across during the (long) elevator rides seemed disgruntled by the small rooms of this hotel, I thought it was a fair value for the price (about $ 90 a night on Hotwire). My friend and I shared a room comfortably, and we found the space to be enough. There was just a small wardrobe, so we kept most of our clothes in our suitcases. Our room was cleaned well daily, and we liked the breakfast with eggs, waffles, sausage links, yogurt, fruit, cereal, and breads. My friend enjoyed the free coffee ²⁴⁄₇ and said it was good quality.
When we checked in, they told us that there is a $ 2 safe fee, but I was told I wouldn’t have to pay if I didn’t use the safe. When we checked out, I mentioned that I’d like the safe fee to be waived, and it was without question. The staff all seemed hard at work to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
Is the hotel luxurious? No. However, it is a good value within a reasonable walking distance of Times Square.

For the price I had no complaints, especially since breakfast is included. Make your own waffles, toast, eggs, sausage, cereal etc. Judging by the previous review the renovation must have been just completed, looked nice. The eating area is compact but it worked. The room was just like the photo I saw online, enough room for 2 people. The bathroom was nice, seemed full sized. I did wonder why did we get 5 mini pillows instead of regular sized? We also used a Choice Hotel Discount and it ended up being about $ 160 a night including all taxes, not bad!
Penn Station is the closest subway stop, about 4 blocks away. Oh, the elevator was very slow, we took the stairs because we were on the 4^th floor, much faster.

This little hotel has it tough. For one thing, it’s in a challenging location. It’s about a 20 minute walk from Grand Central Station, though much closer to Penn and the Port Authority, and those are the nearest subway stops. Then there its size and shape. It looks like it’s only about 30 feet wide, and you have to wonder about the rooms. Well, that part is true to some extent. There’s only 4 rooms per floor on the lower floors and fewer higher up (the poor elevator is a workhorse). To add to that, the lobby is going through a renovation right now.
BUT this place has quite a few things going for it. For one, it’s one of the most reasonably priced hotels in the Choice Hotel franchise in Manhattan (even though that would still be considered «pricey,» since it is Manhattan. For another, the staff here really work to make your stay enjoyable. They are some of the friendliest Choice Hotel employees I have ever met.
One thing of which to be aware. They do add a $ 2 «Safe with ltd. warranty» fee to your bill. But they removed it at my request. I didn’t even ask, I simply said, «I am disappointed I was charged for this,» and it was instantly removed.
I’m not sure if the dining area, also small, is compromised by the reconstruction. They do what they can. I especially appreciated the constantly-​refilled dispenser of lemon/​lime infused ice cold water on a hot muggy day.
The rooms are, as you might expect, compact. No space, for a dresser, so you get a small wardrobe cabinet with a shelf. You still have a desk and night stands, and a good bathroom. Above else, it’s really well cleaned and maintained. It was pretty soundproof too. Even though the back corner of my room was against the elevator, I never heard it while sleeping.
My only major disappointment here was that closing the curtains to reduce the Manhattan night lights into the room would have been in front of the much-​needed cool air coming out of the air conditioning unit.
If I’m not using points or relying on a different Choice Hotel in Manhattan for location, I’ll definitely return.
