My first shirts (4) and I had such good expectations. I can’t describe how disappointed I am in the design and fit. Dimensions are correct but the shirts take on an odd crease in front of arms. I took then to a local tailor to get them altered and and was quoted $ 200 a shirt to fix — because the arm holes weren’t cut in the proper place. I typically wear higher-​end shirts and have never experienced anything like this.
I’m just going to donate to Goodwill and chalk it up as an expensive experience.

Been ordering from Proper Cloth since 2009, when there was no brick and mortar store, and there were only a handful of collar and measurement options. I’ve been playing with the sizes for the past 7 years and now they fit better than all the shirts I ordered from well known NYC custom suit makers. Proper Cloth carries lots of «fun» fabrics in various price points that can be both formal and casual, and I’m still ordering from them even though I now live in California where I can wear a t-​shirt to work. I’m a big guy, former rugby player with a HUGE neck (Or no neck as my wife would say). As such I can’t buy anything off the rack that fits my neck without it being a parachute around the waist. I had been ordering made to measure shirts from Brooks Brothers for some time now and have been happy with everything but the price. On a friends recommendation I gave ProperCloth a try and sent in my measurements and ordered my first shirt. What I received was flawless in it’s quality, though the measurements I had taken weren’t the best. Thanks to the help of Issey, a ProperCloth Style/​Fit Consultant, I was able to use my free alteration to get the fit dialed in perfectly. I’ve already placed my order for another shirt and will probably get many more in the future as they are a great value relative to alternatives like Brooks Brothers.

I’m still working on this. My first shirt arrived. It was better than a store bought shirt but not great. I took the three requisite pictures and a guy in Tokyo evaluated my shirt. He made some recommendations as to new sizing. My new shirt should arrive in a couple of weeks. We’ll see how it works out.
I will say though that the fabrics are great. I love the feel and the color of the various fabrics. I ordered a number of samples before making my choice.
My only concern is that you need to be prepared to spend some time getting the proper shirt. You’re going to pay for a shirt and then it might be 6 to 8 weeks before you actually get a shirt that is properly sized and ready to wear. Just make sure you plan on this.
At this point my review could go either way. It all depends on how good my 2^nd shirt fits.

Sadly, the experience wasn’t good for me. The first shirt fit okay, but nothing better than off the rack. I ordered because of the first order policy to get a replacement shirt made for free. I reduced numerous measurements, some by over an inch to something to be more form fitting and somehow the shirt seems even larger this time around. For about the same price, you can have a professional measure and get you a truly custom shirt. Love the concept, but won’t be using again with much better options available.

Nicest shirts I own come from here. Also possibly the nicest cust service people in the menswear industry.

I’m a big old bear and short to boot. Shirt shopping in a department store is about the worst frustration you can imagine. Something has to compromise in every shirt I buy.
No such worries with shirts from Proper Cloth. Every shirt I order is custom fitted and is a perfect fit for my big belly, large neck, and short sleeves. I can even specify the shirt length so that it always stays tucked in. Their fabric and sewing construction is better than what you can find in off the rack clothes — even better than Nordstroms for the same price or $ 20 – 30 more. Well worth it.

Love it. I recommend Proper Cloth to all of my friends and some strangers. Great quality fabrics and construction, and you know exactly what you are getting. I went from buying designer shirts to these guys. Now I pay half the price (or less) for a better fit and more comfort, with so many design choices. Proper Cloth is definitely not the cheapest custom shirt shop, but I would say they offer the greatest value.

I have had my clothes custom made for over 15 years now. The shirts are just as good as those from the large custom names, but about half the cost. I enjoy the convenience of being order my shirts at 2AM and browse new fabrics when they first are available. The highly detailed fit profile allows me much more control than even the best custom places. I have ordered a half dozen shirts so far and will continue to order more. Thanks guys.

As most people say, Proper Cloth has a good website and friendly staff; however, after ordering numerous shirts and having them altered due to coming in too large, they still do not fit well. I have ordered a handful of shirts, both casual and business, and even if I have ordered the EXACT SAME measurements, the shirts come back fitting differently. This has led to wasting money on shirts that I assumed would fit well because the whole point of this system is to go in and get measured and find your perfect fit. At that point, you should be able to order shirts with confidence using the size they have created. Sadly, it seems they have issues with their systems. I do not think I will reorder again.

Great service, and they allow you to alter your first shirt for free to get the fit just right. Though it takes a few weeks for them to build the shirt, mail it to you, you wear it, send in photos for a fit analysis, and get your new shirt, once you get your perfect dimensions you can save them and get a perfectly fitted shirt every time that you can tailor exactly to your needs/​specifications in every aspect. Great service.

They found me via a Facebook Ad and I gave them a shot. I am 6’6 and have been effectively limited to ordering online from the GAP brands my professional career. I gave them a shot on a custom dress shirt for work and was quite impressed by the results. The fit was perfect, the fabric was top quality, and the process was quite easy. Highly recommended for tall folks who already need to order online.

I have a bit of a belly. They have made me 12 custom shirts so far. I could not be happier with the quality, service and fit of there work!

Every working professional needs to give Proper Cloth a try. It doesn’t matter what shape or size your body is, everyone looks better in bespoke clothing. I personally have wide shoulders and a slim waist so off the rack dress shirts never fit me properly.
The first time I went to PC, I didn’t even have an appointment (I do highly recommend making an appointment) but they were able to help me within 15 minutes. I got measured and ordered a shirt with the help of the great staff. When the shirt came 2 weeks later, unfortunately, there was still too much material in the mid section… but no problem! I simply went back to the store to get a second opinion and they recommended that I take an additional half an inch off, sent my new order out, and remade my shirt for me!
After that, I’ve purchased an additional 9 shirts, which have all been great. Quality isn’t always perfect (e.g. depending on the fabric and how you wash it, some of the seams seem to hold wrinkles a little despite how much you iron) but it’s great for the price and service.
Bonus: If you order a shirt and you don’t like it, you can take it back within 90 days and get a full refund or store credit. Plus you get $ 100 store credit for every 10 shirts that you buy and $ 5 for every fabric review that you post. Pretty awesome if you ask me.
Bottom line: What makes Proper Cloth stand out from all the rest? Great customer service.

Do yourself a favor and check out PC. For those who have a hard time getting clothes to fit OTR (long arms, sloped shoulders, or just weird proportions), this is a fantastic option. Fabric is reasonable quality for the price and construction is really solid. Not remarkably inferior to high end dress shirts; don’t let menswear snobs tell you otherwise. Make sure to take advantage of the discount for getting referred by a friend (saves you something like $ 20).
Best part of the experience is the customer service. Unless you really know what you’re doing, best to contact their email team (they’re very responsive) and get your questions all sorted out before ordering.

This is hands down the best buying experience I’ve ever had. The quality of the fabrics PC chooses is literally top notch, as they source fabrics from some of the best suppliers globally. The process of finding your size is very seamless and PC works with you to identify multiple different «styles» for you (aka business fit to wear with suits vs casual fit to wear untucked). The best thing is that their company is at it’s core, a technology company, so everything you do is documented and tracked for an extremely easy process to purchase future shirts. Finally, my favorite part is the power you have to customize every single little thing on your shirt to truly design a unique shirt for yourself. 16+ different collar styles, different buttons, hundreds of fabrics, PC literally cannot be beat.
To sum it up… think Nike ID + Amazon Prime + old school bespoke tailor. Win — win!
