What a deal. Only cost $ 5 and you can free style dance for a whole night. I had a lot of fun, drained in my sweat and met a lot of cool people. It’s a very friendly environment. I will go again.

I’ve only taken the Yoga Booty Ballet class here, but it was the most fun fitness class I’ve ever taken. Kristen is fantastic.

Conveniently located on 14^th Street, the PMT studios are walking distance from Union Square and many other subway. I used these studios for many years, both as a dance teacher and while rehearsing with my dance company.
The staff is friendly and young, always ready to help you.
The changing rooms are modest, but remember you’re in New York City and space is precious.
The floors and mirrors are good and the main studio has windows on half the walls, which gives great light.

Checked out a contemporary dance class today. The location is pretty convenient and close to where I live. The inside of the building is a bit run down, and the studio felt a bit grimy to me. The dance class was interesting — contemporary is totally new to me, so I wasn’t super into it — but I’m not sure if I’d take another class here.

I’ve always wanted to learn how to dance, but I never took the initiative to enroll in a dance class or take professional lessons. In August, however, I decided to sign up for PMT’s beginner’s hip hop dance class. I had high hopes for the class, but the actual experience exceeded even my high expectations. Alan Watson was my instructor and he is AMAZING! Alan is one of the nicest, most genuine guys you’ll ever meet, and he always takes the time to explain moves thoroughly, no matter how many times we might have screwed up. As this was a beginner’s class, most of us came in with no prior dancing experience, and thus, we frequently messed up and/​or needed the moves to be explained and repeated multiple times. Alan never once expressed an ounce of annoyance or frustration with any of us and was extremely kind and patient. He’s not just a great dancer, but he’s an excellent teacher as well.
One of the things I really liked about the experience was the fact that in addition to meeting with us weekly to practice in the studio, Alan recorded tutorial videos every week and emailed them to the entire class, allowing us to practice at home as well. This worked particularly well for me because I need to learn things at my own pace a lot of the time and wasn’t able to learn every single move as thoroughly as I’d have liked to during the lessons in the actual dance studio. The videos allowed me to practice moves I felt less confident about and perfect the moves I was better at from the comfort of my own home.
Today was our showcase recital, and I can honestly say that deciding to take a class at PMT was a really great decision. I’m so satisfied with the experience that I’m signing up for a spring class with Alan as well! I’d highly recommend PMT for anyone in New York that’s interested in dance, especially beginners with no prior experience like myself looking for a suitable dance studio. Overall, a really incredible experience!

When I first started to go to PMT Dance Studio, I didn’t really know how to dance. I was a bit nervous at first and wanted to try breakin’ 101 since it said it was for beginners. The class was simple and the steps were easy to follow. From there I started to try other classes and continued with breakin’ and Hip-​Hop. I am now confident in my dancing abilities and aspire to be better than the director himself.
Prices are reasonable whether you plan on renting space or getting a class card. The director of PMT not only taught the class that I was in, but also explained the rules and regulations in case I was interested in renting space with my friends.
At the end of the day I would highly recommend this dance studio to dancers of all levels.

Personal favorite is Watson. He really knows how to teach.
Describe a little bit about the class, which I’ve taken 3 weeks ago, was an unique experience to see how Hiphop involved and how it gonna be in the future. Both great dancers had great reputation on Juste Debout NYC 2013. They lectured well and showed us some interesting moves! Should go see it by yourself.

I love this studio! Their range of classes is amazing. I’ve found it almost impossible to find dance classes with absolutely no experience required in NYC but PMT has them (I highly recommend Breakin’ 101 and Lara Duncan’s Jazz). They also have more advanced classes and workshops that are so much fun (Sarah Burke’s Workshop comes to mind). The staff here are nice and most of the dancers who come here aren’t the nasty stuck up ones you find at other studios (BDC, Ailey and Steps come to mind). The place has a great vibe and if you haven’t tried them out you should go.

Awesome rentals for dance groups — big space and built-​in stereo system. Studio A has huge windows and it is bathed in gorgeous sunlight. The owner, Pavan, is so easy to work with and a really nice, trustworthy guy.

Coming from a small town in CT and after a hiatus from dance after an ankle injury, I found myself taking classes at PMT Dance Studio. It was the perfect place to gain back my old technique, and also learn new styles! All of the teaching staff are extremely knowledgeable, well– trained, extremely patient teachers and unbelievably talented.
Like any studio in New York City, it is best to try some drop in classes to determine what level suits you best. After taking classes for a few months at PMT, I joined the performance workshops and have consistently taking 2 – 4 workshops a season for the past 2 years because of the amazing experiences I have had. It is great to be able to perform with other talented individuals, and I have notably improved especially in the hip hop discipline.
In response to what a below reviewer has posted, it should be understood that performance workshops are just that– performance focused intensive workshops. For 8 weeks, the same group of students learns a choreographed piece and has the opportunity to perform it on stage, on multiple occasions. Pavan’s workshop is in particular is ALWAYS split into two smaller casts and he always offers additional «Encore» opportunities. It should also be noted that for the performance workshops, the Performance is mandatory (as is implied by the name) and it is clearly stated on the website that «There are NO refunds unless class is cancelled by PMT Dance Studio.» I am also not sure where the reviewer thought salsa doesn’t have partner work, but Marlon is one of the most fantastic people I have ever met, and his salsa skills are on point. I highly recommend PMT Dance studio to anyone looking for an inspiring and encouraging environment to learn, dance, perform, and have fun in. Come take a class, catch one of the performance showcases, or join a performance workshop yourself so you can be on stage! Not to mention, the class rates cannot be beat in this city.

My fav dance studio in Manhattan! Not as big as BDC or Steps but you’ll find a super friendly atmosphere and excellent classes and teachers. Classes are never to crowded so the teachers can follow you personally. I tried breakin’, hip hop, jazz, house, the open sessions and loved every single one of it. I recommend the workshops too because they offer a good opportunity to perform at the seasonal showcase. Last summer they also hosted a «Art of battle» workshop, focused on learning how to dance in a freestyle battle. Another plus are the cards with 5, 10 or 20 classes: cheaper than in the other studios and they last for 1 year, which is great!

I have reviewed a lot of dance studios… what I experienced at this studio is some of the poorest instruction and THE worst management. I wouldn’t recommend that anyone give this business their money, you will NEVER get it back. I signed up for 2 performance classes… after reading the reviews on Unilocal I assumed it would be at the very least an acceptable level of quality… it’s not. In salsa I was manhandled by creepy guys trying to force me to do turns. Physically forcing your dance partner to do what you want is a great way to guarantee that the person will never want to come back.
For hip hop, the studio manager Pavan could have easily scheduled 2 normal sized classes with all the people he stuffed in one. And hey, if you don’t like it, guess what? No refunds. For Pavan’s hip hop class there were so many people I couldn’t see what the instructor was doing. Pavan was also rude and unprofessional the second I asked for a refund.
Not real sure how this place merits these positive reviews. Piel Canela is way better if you want to dance for fun (and look good while you’re dancing).

When I first moved to New York I was looking for a place to dance and although I knew of Broadway Dance Centre, I was attracted to PMT because of the closer knit circle of friends I built up here doing the performance workshops — everyone here is like my second family!
There is a great range of different styles of dance class offered and one of the few dance studios that actually offers beginners classes that are really beginners classes! Keep an eye out for Living Social deals which are excellent when they come up.
I love doing the performance workshops because as a non-​professional dancer, someone who dances just because I love it, it gives me the chance to perform a few times a year. They are intense and you definitely have to be committed but it brings you together as part of the workshop group, you’ll have tons of fun, improve your dancing and make some great friends while your at it :)

I emailed PMT and asked to reserve space for Monday December 10^th, 2012 from 10:00am — 3:00pm. We discussed the availability and hourly pricing (which was originally quoted me as being $ 15.00 per hour). Once both items were confirmed, I was asked to call the studio so I could reserve the rental with a credit card.
As asked, I phoned PMT and again stated I was calling to reserve a studio for 12÷10÷12. I was then quoted a price of $ 40.00 per hour. This was slightly off-​putting. At my concern for the $ 25.00 per hour rate increase The PMT employee on the phone double checked the rate and came back with $ 25.00 per hour. He stated that the $ 15.00 per hour rate was exclusively for nonprofits. Understandably, I was more than happy to accept the 2^nd rate of $ 25.00 per hour. (Though in the end I was actually charged $ 20.00 per hour. Curious.)
I was sent the paperwork, read through the liability statement, signed and filled out the forms, and faxed the paperwork back to PMT. I also emailed to confirm that PMT had received my paperwork.
What I missed, and ADMITTEDLY acknowledge was my mistake, was that the rental form I was sent had the incorrect date written on it. Halfway down the form there was ONE line dated 12÷3÷12, a detail I was unaware of until I showed up at PMT fully thinking I had a reservation for that day. You can imagine my shock when I arrived with all of my equipment and dancers in tow for a full day of work. Sweet.
Looking at the paperwork I was embarrassed to have not caught the mistake before signing. I will note that the level of redundancy in emailing about a reservation for 12÷10÷12, then phoning to give my credit card information for 12÷10÷12, then faxing (my fax cover letter even indicated «studio reservation for 12/​10/​12») definitely gave me a sense of security I was getting a reservation for 12÷10÷12 especially since I NEVER ONCE MENTIONED (in writing or verbally) 12÷3÷12 as an option. PMT basically let me sign off on an arbitrary date of their choice — nice.
While I wasn’t at my best when I learned I didn’t have a rental that day, the PMT employee (I later learned this was the PMT director) who interacted with me at the studio was unusually unhelpful and dismissive. He brusquely handed me my paperwork, angrily showed me I had the date wrong then disappeared. My boyfriend said he did not return to his post until I stepped away to start making calls to find a new location.
I later emailed the PMT director to contest their customer service and was told that in 11 years of business they have never made a booking mistake and my situation was the first of its kind. I don’t know about you, but I doubt it is possible to go 11 years of doing anything and not make ONE mistake. He excused his gruff behavior by saying he had been «attending to a health concern for a patron» which is why he seemed distracted and disinterested in dealing with me. He then proceeded to coldly regurgitate some formalities about the invoice being a ‘binding contract’. His calculating and unsurprised manner throughout seemed practiced and I still have my suspicions that I’m not the first person to have had this type of experience with PMT.
In his email he also claimed that had I stuck around instead of immediately jumping on the phone to fix my situation (um, who wouldn’t immediately enter reconnaissance mode?), he would have tried to accommodate me by putting me in a space they rent across the street. Right, so what ACTUALLY happened while I was on the phone was he told my boyfriend, in front of my dancers, there was «nothing he could do and there was no other space available». No part of this whole interaction indicated he was going to try and do me any favors.
This pretty much let me know me that in the end, the people who run PMT are, at the very least, liars. It is my belief they knowingly saw I had signed off on the wrong date to grift a measly $ 100.00 from me. Sigh… no matter how bruised my ego maybe for not carefully reviewing that invoice at least I am willing to admit when I’ve made a mistake. Lesson learned. PMT should have presented me an invoice with the correct date on it in the first place instead of sighting their ‘infallible’ track record.
I am lucky to have extensive knowledge about rental studios in the City, the financial means to make another last minute reservation, personal transportation and dancers who know me well enough to know I do not normally make this type of mistake. I know MOST artists aren’t so fortunate and I assure you I will never trust this type of redundancy ever again nor recommend PMT Studios to anyone in the future.

So, let me start off by saying that I am not a dancer. I have never done any choreography in my life, and I am one of the most uncoordinated people you will ever meet. I fell off a bike recently that had training wheels on them. I’m 26 years old.
A group of my friends have been taking the beginners hip hop dance courses on Thursdays for a while. They somehow convinced me to try it out. I walked in my first class expecting the worst. I was sort of expecting the dance instructor to be like the drill instructor from Full Metal Jacket. And I expected to be… well… the fat guy from Full Metal Jacket.
To my surprise, the instructor was very kind and made sure that everyone in the class felt comfortable. And I even found my inner dancer. My inner Janet from the Rhythm Nation Days if you will. The first half of the class was spent breaking down each move of the routine individually in succession. The second half was the class broken into groups perfecting the moves and dancing off against the other groups. It sounds intimidating, but by the second half you find yourself so in it, that you’re just having a good time. It also helps that there’s always one person you think is worse than you. If you don’t find that person, then you are that person, and I’ll pray for you. You can watch from the corner. If someone puts you in a corner, you tell them, «No one puts baby in the corner.». Or go cry in the bathroom.
By the end of a few weeks, I was pop locking and dropping it like it’s hot. Now, I go strictly by my street dancer name «Street Meat» and use words like «choreo» and «What!!!» Represent. Look out for me in the next Step Up or on Janet’s next tour. Not really. I’m still awful. I’m more like Elaine from Seinfeld than Usher. But when you’re having this much fun with your old friends and new friends, who cares?

Zumba with Irena is EVERYTHING! Hands down the best and most intense zumba class I have taken to date. You will get very winded and there will be lots of sweat. But more importantly, you will have TONS OF FUN!

The studio itself is no frills but very clean and equipped with the basic necessities — changing room, single shower and glass walled studio — for the task at hand.
If you’re driving, parking is easey-​peasy on Sundays (no meters). MTA/​PATH is a half block away.

I survived my first Hip Hop class at PMT Dance Studio today!
I actually bought a livingsocial ($ 25 for 8 classes) last year March 2011, but something always seems to come up. Fast forward to March 2012. The voucher is expiring in a few weeks so I decided to cut the b.s. and go for the first available class on the schedule.
My class was amazing! My instructor, Alan, is one super funny and talented guy. We started off with about half an hour of warming up. Then he gave us an option to choose between three different songs. I have two left feet and was tripping left and right, but the class really got my blood pumping. I had an awesome time and depending on how sore my muscles are I might just go back for Contemporary Dance tomorrow.
About PMT:
1. If you have any valuables you can store your things in the lockers inside the dressing room. Locks are $ 1 to rent or you can bring your own. Most people leave their stuff to the side of the dance studios.
2. This is a no frills studio and I kind of like it that way. PMT consists of two studios and bathrooms, changing rooms, and a shower.
3. I’m not sure if everyone there today is trying to redeem their livingsocial voucher or because Alan is such a great instructor or both, but there are lots of students today. Surprisingly, there is enough space for everyone.
4. Proper attire (for hip hop class at least) seems to be tank/​t-​shirt with sweats or shorts. Something comfortable.
5. Do not try to hide in the back. The rows are going to rotate and everyone gets their chance to be in the front row. You may trip and fall (pretend like you’re doing it on purpose ;)), but it’s no biggie.
At the end of the day, it really is a great workout and I feel less guilty about devouring half the box of Reese’s Chip Ahoy in the afternoon.

Dancing is my anti-​drug … and PMT is the gateway to my anti-​drug =D
Don’t expect a flashy studio — this place is bare-​bones basic but holds raw dance classes! Only housing 2 dance rooms, 2 bathrooms, a shower, and a changing area — it’s definitely not the fanciest place but it gets the job done. I’ve only taken the drop-​in hip hop classes with Alan Watson & recently with Levi Claiborne but they were both really great. Different styles of dance & different personalities but you can feel the straight up passion for dance they have.
$ 16 for a 1.5 hour class really isn’t too bad compared with the other dance classes out there. You start off with warm-​ups for about 15 mins and then straight dancing from there. If there is enough time towards the end of the class, the class is usually split up into groups and have their moments to shine by performing together! There are ample moments for water breaks & there is a free water jug near studio A.
The only downfall I’ve ever experienced with this place was when they offered 8 classes for $ 25 through LivingSocial (ok I admit I was a part of this deal too — too good to pass up!). During this time, the drop in hip hop classes were PACKED and in Alan’s class he gives us a choice between 3 songs in the beginning of class to dance to. For about 3 of my 8 sessions, we did the same routine as a result. It wasn’t that bad as it gave me a chance to hone the choreo but I really wanted to learn new things each time.
If you weren’t so far away from me, PMT, I’m convinced I’d live at your studio =)
